Video Transcript for CE Smith Trailer Wiring Clips Spec Review

Reviewer: Today we're going to be taking a look at part number CE16867A. These are the CE Smith trailer wiring clips. They're designed to be a frame-mount installation. Zinc plated steel is what they're made from. With this part number you're going to get 10 clips. These are going to be corrosion resistant clips. They're going to help you secure any loose wiring on your trailer.

You can use them to supplement the clips in the wiring kit, or you can even use them to replace old and worn out clips that you may have on your trailer. It's designed to fit around edges up to 5/32 of an inch thick. The clips, again, are simply going to secure the wiring to your trailer's frame. It's going to help prevent unsafe conditions caused by loose, drooping or stray wiring. It creates an overall, just neater appearance. It really tidies up the installation of your wires.

Very fast and easy installation, all you have to do is pop the clips on to the edge of your trailer frame and then tuck the wiring in. Again, zinc plated steel, so they're going to be corrosion resistant. Ten clips, and they're going to give us a wide of 3/8 of an inch. I do want to go ahead and show you how these do work. I have a piece of angle iron here today. What I'm going to do, is I'm simply going to take the clip, and you're going to notice here on the clip that one side's going to have these little teeth that come out. That's going to be the side that pinches on to the frame of your trailer.

Just place that on there. Give it a good push. I'm trying to go ahead and install a couple of them. Sometimes they can be pretty tight, so what I like to do is just take a tool or get a mallet or a hammer or whatever, just kind of hit that on there. Go ahead and do one more. You can see if we have these all along our trailer frame, how they'll work.

I'm going to take some 16 gauge bonded wire. This is going to be the wiring that you'd find on a four-way flat connector. Instead of having it drooping along the trailer frame, you can place it inside the clips, and it's going to hold our wiring up and out of the way, keeping everything safe. That's going to do it for our review of part number CE16867A. This is the CE Smith Trailer Wiring Clips. .

Worked great running wires for a Macerator on my Travel Trailer.

by:

Great coupler. I swapped out the welded 1-7/8" (ball) coupler on the boat trailer my dad gave me as it was rusted and the latch needed to be replaced, and I already had a 2" ball mount. I considered buying a new ball mount with 1-7/8" ball for $30, but this just made more sense considering the poor condition of the original coupler and the simplification of only needing a 2" ball mount (standard size when renting U-Haul trailers for hauling landscaping dirt and rocks. Removing the welded coupler wasn't too difficult with a cutoff blade and grinding blade. Drilling the 1/2" holes took as long as cutting off the welded coupler. A definite upgrade for a better looking trailer and simplification of only needing one 2" ball mount.

Restoring a 1991 2 horse trailer. etrailer had all the exact lights made by Peterson, 35 years later.

by:

The lights that weren’t pre packaged from the manufacturer were just thrown in the box. You can do better than this…

The "CE Smith Trailer Wiring Clips - Frame Mount - Zinc Plated Steel - 10 pack" are truly a well made, heavy gauge wire clip with good spring tension to hold wiring to the frame. They arrived before the expected delivery date which was a great surprise and allowing me to get to my project quicker. They came well packaged/protected and I was amazed at how heavy duty they are. I would definitely recommend this company and their products.

Still working great. They were exactly what I needed to hold trailer wiring to the frame.

by:

I wanted additional clips to secure all wires on my etrailer. These did the trick. However, they were not the same type clip that came with my etrailer so I had to bend the open the wire-side. This modification worked so am satisfied. It’s possible I ordered the wrong clips but the wires are now secure. No regrets.

Clips don’t hold well.

by:

I needed trailer clips for my boat trailer for the new wiring harness I installed. I called Bass Pro Shops, Cabelas, and very marine dealer along the front range of Colorado and one had them. So, I went online and found them at etrailer.com. I highly recommend etariler.com. They had the trailer clips I requested on their website. After I ordered them I received 2 emails from their staff. The first verified my order and the second verified the shipping date. Great folks to work with and the pricing is the best I found on the internet. If you want quality parts, great service, an outstanding price, and fast delivery give etrailer.com a look. I'm back to fishing again thanks to them.

It is difficult to find different size or device to secure trailer wiring. These clips worked fine, but are a little small if clipping on Main frame channel - 14K Doolittle tilt bed.

The wiring clips still function as required. No issues.

I was extremely pleased with the order process from your company, the rapid shipment and follow-up.

Although there is not much you can write about regarding chassis wire clips other than they hold the wire to the chassis as advertised, my experience has been a blank stare at every "auto parts store" I visited. I guess current cars have no chassis (i.e. frame) to attach clips to. Most refer me to the plastic/nylon loop clips that need to be screwed to the attachment point, or the self-stick clamps that immediately fall off.

Thank You!!!

For the most part, pretty well. I have had a couple fall off due to the thickness of the travel trailer frame. Any chance of having a slightly larger size for thicker frames?

Thanks for your feedback regarding your trailer wiring clips. I have checked and this is currently the only clip style size that we carry. We do offer several other clamps and devices that can be used for securing trailer wiring to the frame. I have included a link to those products for your reference.

Fast shipping. Item as described. Works perfect keeping wiring secured to frame of trailer.

I recently ordered several products from Etrailer. All of them worked great, the price was fair and service/shipping was excellent. After ordering from them several times, I don't even look anywhere else.

These trailer frame wiring mount clips work great on my kayak trailer build just tap them on with a small hammer and clip the wires in, keeps them from hanging down, my trailer frame is 3/16" thick X 4" wide steel channel, will not work on tube type frames.

by:

Item seemed smaller than the "older" ones that i had, but they worked in the application that i needed. Product came quickly.
Staff was friendly and helpful. Will come back to etrailer again.

I purchased a 4 light trailer light kit locally and a 4 wire trailer harness for my 5 x 8 utility trailer. I needed these harness clips that keep the wiring up against the frame of the trailer. I searched around my city with no one carrying them. I got onto this companies website and found them. I ordered and they arrived just a few days later.

  • Wire Loom Clamp/Clip Recommendations for 4-Way Wiring.
Based on our customer reviews it looks like the Wire Frame Clip # CE16867A that you referenced has better reviews than the Wire Frame Clip # 464600. Either one should work fine, but if it were me I would go with the # CE16867A between those two. Another option is the Metal Loom Clamp # A0500. You will need to provide some self tapping screws but this is the loom clamp that our installers here at etrailer use the most. These clamps are rubber coated to protect the wires and since they screw...

  • Replacing Trailer Wiring on a 2000 Jayco 17 Hybrid
It sounds like the best solution for you is to bypass the existing trailer wiring since you cannot locate the wiring that leads to the tail lights. You can use wiring # 16-4B-1. It is sold in increments of 1 foot. So if you needed 20 feet you would enter 20 in the quantity box. Or you could replace the connector as well. If you have a 4-Way you could use # A35W42B which has 2 running light wires, one for each side of the trailer. If you do not have a 4-Way you could tell me the connector...

The CE Smith Trailer Wiring Clips # CE16867A referenced in your question will fit around edges that are up to 5/32 inches thick. I am not sure how thick the I-beam is on your EZ Loader Boat Trailer but we do have the slightly larger # 464600 Clip that will work with a frame thickness of up to 5/16 of an inch. I recommend simply measuring the thickness on the beam to see if one of these options will work. If the I-beam is too thick for either of these options then your best bet will be...

The 4-Flat Universal Mounting Bracket # 118149 that you referenced would be an excellent bracket to use to secure the 4-way of the Tow Ready Wiring harness part # 118245 to your 2001 Lexus RX300. What I would recommend you use to secure the wires would be zip ties. You would just want to zip tie the wire harness to the underside of your vehicle avoiding moving parts that could pinch the wire and exhaust components that could melt it.

Would a 20 foot harness work for you? If so, Wesbar offers a 20 foot version as part # 002220. This is not a wishbone style harness. You'll need to run the harness down one side to the taillight and then daisy chain over to the opposing taillight. A wishbone style is also available as part # W002230. A wishbone style harness splits the running lamp circuit into two legs so you and run the left turn/brake lamp circuit and one running lamp circuit down the driver's side and the right turn/brake...

  • Can a Trailer with Hydraulic Brakes Have Electric Brakes Installed
It's actually not too difficult to swap out your hydraulic brakes with electric brakes. You will want to measure your assemblies like in the photo I attached so that you can pick out the correct replacement to fit your hub. You will need to run wiring...

Grounding through the ball doesn't work well, as you've found. If the current harness doesn't have a ground circuit, the wiring must be fairly old as it's pretty typical for a trailer connector to have a ground circuit. The fact that you're blowing fuses leads me to believe you might also have a short circuit in one or both your turn signal/brake lamp circuits. You'll want to replace the existing wiring harness on the trailer. This is pretty simple to do, and will only take an hour or...
