Video Transcript for Feature Breakdown: Computer Safe Logistic Probe

Today we're going to be taking a look at the performance tool computer safe logistic probe. It's going to feature a computer safe design drawing less then 7 mil amps. It will test high and low voltages on all vehicle circuits including computerized engine and body controls. It's going to feature a bright red and green LED. It's going to interpret voltage signals such as ground, power, and frequency. This system is designed to work on 6, 12, and 24 volt systems.

The test probe, that's this portion right here, that's going to measure pretty close to 3 and 3/16 of an inch, right around that area, 3 and 1/8. It's also going to come with your heavy gauge color coded battery clips. A really nice design, easy grip design on those. When the coiled cable or cord is fully stretched out it's going to be able to reach up to 10 feet. When you're ready to use or connect the probe what you'll need to do is you'll need to connect the probe clips to the vehicle's battery. The red clip, again, it's color coded so that's going to go to the positive terminal.

The black clip goes to the negative terminal. You'll need to turn the power on to the component or circuit being tested. Keep in mind the ignition may need to be in on or accessory position. In some cases the engine may need to be running. All you have to do is touch the components circuit wire with the probe's tip.

The LED will glow red if positive source is probed, or green if a negative source is probed. That tip right here, it's going to measure about 3 and 3/16 of an inch long and it's insulated. If the LED does not glow at all the probe may not be making contact with the wire. The wire or the component maybe faulty. Power may not be reaching the circuit or the circuit may not be properly grounded. That's going to do it for today's look at the performance tool computer safe logistic probe.

  • Finding the Brake Switch Wire to Install a Brake Controller on a 2014 Toyota Highlander
You have to test the brake switch wires with a circuit tester such as # PTW2991 to determine the correct wire for a brake controller red wire. You want the wire that only has power when the brake pedal is pressed and not with the headlights or turn signals on. On a 2013 Highlander we installed a brake controller on, the brake switch wire was blue. I would start testing with the blue wire on the brake switch if applicable to your 2014.

  • How to Determine Where to Connect Tow Bar Wiring for 2019 Chevy Equinox Premier
To install the Universal Hy-Power Diode Wiring Kit # RM-154 on your 2019 Chevy Equinox Premier you will need to use a circuit tester like part # PTW2991 to determine what wiring colors for your tail lights carry which functions. Unfortunately we don't have a wiring diagram for your vehicle that I can pass along to you. Attached is an installation video on a 2018 Equinox that you can use as an example but I'd still test your wiring to make sure everything is connected to the proper circuit.

  • Redarc Brake controller RED44FR
It is possible to install the Redarc Tow-Pro # RED44FR into virtually every vehicle but will depend on the experience that the installer has. Most RV dealerships only like to go the Plug and Play route, which your 2016 Volvo XC90 does not offer. The Brake Controller is looking for 4 wire connections. A constant 12v power, a 12V ground, a brake switch power(the wire that only shows power when pedal is pressed) and an output to the trailer 7-way. If this is something that you want to attempt...

  • Troubleshooting OEM Brake Controller 2016 Chevy Silverado Not Working with Brake Pedal
Your generation of truck has this issue sometimes and the problem ends up being that the third brake light fuse is blown. This is same circuit as the brake controller stoplight circuit of your truck so what I would recommend is check to see if your third brake lights up when you press the brakes and if not replace the fuse for the third brake light.

  • Troubleshooting Taillights for Trailer Wiring on 2012 Volkswagen Touareg
I have attached the installation instructions for # 118668 below. I do recommend using a Circuit Tester # PTW2991 for testing your connections. This will help ensure your ground connectors are working properly as well. I do not see a black wire with green tracer coming out of the black box. The black wire is the 12V constant power. Your output wires are green for right turn/brake, yellow for left turn/brake, brown for running lights and white is ground. I hope this will help you identify...

  • Troubleshooting NC Connection on Prodigy P2 Brake Controller With Brakes Getting Power
It sounds like you need to check the tow vehicle and trailer connectors for any corrosion or damage. It is very interesting that your Prodigy P2 # 90885 is reading NC (No Connection) at the same time you activate your trailer brakes. If the trailer isn't connected are you getting 12V of power to the pin in the 5 o'clock position on your tow vehicle? Try testing this pin with a circuit tester like part # PTW2991 to verify this. If there is power coming to this pin without the trailer connected...

  • Lights Not Working After Installing Roadmaster Diode Wiring Kit
First, lets look at what is going on with the motor home. If it has a trailer connector on it you will want to test it using a circuit tester such as # PTW2991. If some of the circuits are not working then you know that the issue is on the motor home side. If they all check out fine then the issue is likely in either the kit used or the motorhome Using this will help you check for shorts in your current wiring.

  • Troubleshooting Trailer Disconnected Code for Integrated Brake Controller on a 2017 Ford F-350
What you need to do is test the 7-Way connector both on your 2017 Ford F-350 and your trailer. Since your F-350 is new I doubt that it is on the vehicle side but you can use a circuit tester like part # PTW2991 and the attached picture of a vehicle 7-Way to make sure that all of the functions are operating properly. To test the 7-Way on your trailer simply take a 12V battery and ground the negative terminal while using the positive terminal to apply power to each pin on the 7-Way. If one...

  • Installing Roadmaster Flexo-Coil Wiring on a 2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon JL
According to my research you can use the Flexo-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15267 for your 2019 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon but I don't believe you will connect to the same color wires as shown in the linked video for this kit on a 2017 Wrangler Unlimited. From what I could find I believe that the running light should be a white and gray wire on your driver's side but a white and orange wire on the passenger side. The stop/turn signals should be found on the yellow wire for the driver's side and the...

  • No Plate or Running Lights but Brake and Turn Signal Work on New LED lights
I recommend using a Probe Circuit Tester # PTW2991 to test the entire circuit. This type of tester will help you to identify both power and ground connections and that they are properly working. I have also included a link below that will help you to identify different wiring connections and where to check. I would begin by checking the power at the 4-way connection. Be sure to check it on both sides of the connector as there may have been a break inside the connector. From there you...

  • How to Determine Wire Harness Functions for Brake Controller Wiring on a 2017 Nissan Armada
I can help you determine what wire on your harness is for which function, but unfortunately we don't know what color wire holds what function on your 2017 Nissan Armada. What you will need to do is use a circuit tester like part # PTW2991 and test your wiring harness. You will be able to find 2 of the functions easily. One will have constant power and one will only have power when you press your brake pedal. This leaves you with the ground wire and the wire that sends power to your trailer...

  • 4-Way Wiring Issue on 1997 Jeep Wrangler With LED Taillights
I believe we are running into one of 2 issues. I believe the issue may be with the LED taillights that you installed 6 months ago. Depending on how they are controlled that might be where the issue is coming from. It could have its own circuitry that is causing the power to crossover and that is why you are seeing both turn signals going when they shouldn't be. I recommend reaching out to the Taillight Manufacturer to see if they are aware of this being an issue. The second could be the...

  • Trailer LED Tail Light Stopped Working on Right Side
It sounds like you are missing that 1 connection on the trailer tail light. Typically, a trailer tail light will have 2 or 3 wires. If it has 3 wires then there will be a ground wire (attached to the frame) a wire for brake lights and turn signal (these are the same wire) and a third wire for the running lights. You can use a circuit tester such as # PTW2991 to test the black wire to see which functions it is carrying. Have someone run through the lighting functions in the tow vehicle...

  • 5TH Wheel RV Breakaway Switched Removed During Storage Testing for Damage
I would start with reinserting the Breakaway Cable Plunger # FA80-01-2206. Your breakaway box uses power from your battery on the 2018 Keystone Montana 3791RD 5th Wheel. You will want to ensure the battery wasn't completely drained during this time. If dead be sure to recharge the battery. The brakes should unlock but it may require you to backup to unlock them. Yes, there is no standard wiring color code so the wire functions could be anything. The only way to know for sure is to test the wires using a circuit tester such as # PTW2991. The ground will not have any voltage on it, or at least it should not unless there is a short to ground.
