Is this right For you? Product Expert Alexander C says:

Yes, if you:

  • Struggle to see if your king pin is fully latched - color-coded system makes it easy to see from your cab
  • Go down washboard roads to get to your favorite campgrounds and need a little extra shock absorption to keep from feeling every bump
  • Have a relatively lightweight fifth wheel trailer

No, if you:

  • Have raised side rails - since this hitch sits low in the bed, it might not give you enough space for your trailer to clear
  • Have a hard time lifting heavy stuff by yourself - even though the head comes off, the base is still about 100 lbs on its own
  • Don't have the patience to perfectly level out your trailer when unhooking - the cushioned head can cause the jaws to bind up
Tow up to 16,000 lbs with this heavy-duty fifth-wheel trailer hitch. Interlocking jaws and a color-coded lock indicator provide safety. Torsion head offers easy hookup and quiet, stable towing. Rails and universal installation kit sold separately. 1-800-940-8924 to order CURT fifth wheel hitch part number C16120 or order online at Free expert support on all CURT products. Secure, Interlocking Two-Piece Jaw

A16 Two-Piece Interlocking Jaw

Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, interlocking, two-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Three-Point Indicator System

A16 Color Indicator System

Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).

Curt rebranded this fifth-wheel trailer hitch by changing its name from Q16 to A16 in 2016. All features and specifications remained the same.

Tow up to 16,000 lbs with this heavy-duty fifth-wheel trailer hitch. Interlocking jaws and a color-coded lock indicator provide safety. Torsion head offers easy hookup and quiet, stable towing. Rails and universal installation kit sold separately.

I was fully expecting a hitch in excess of 100 pounds to show up in a destroyed box. This did not. They had taken the Time and effort to cover the box with an additional layer of cardboard and it must have had a million staples in it. It was almost comical, you will need a crowbar or large screwdriver to get it open. However, when I did finally get the package open I found a perfectly un scratched hitch with no missing parts. I have not pulled with the hitch yet but , it does look like it is going to perform great. I'm using this in a 2006 ram 2500 4x4 short bed pulling a 2015 forest river Salem and it allows 91 degrees of turning due to the clipped corners on the front cap of the trailer. I will be curious to see how long the rubber isolators last before needing replaced and if they are readily available. Also the curt sticker on the hitch was peeling off when I took it out of the box, would be nice to get that replaced.

Could not be happier with this hitch. Have never had any coupling or uncoupling problems even in odd angle situations. Does not rattle or let the trailer chuck around. Easy to move. In and out of the truck. The powder coating is fading and showing some signs of surface rust but this is most likely due to it living in the truck unprotected. I have since moved the hitch into a 2017 ram 2500 with the puck system. I bought the puck mount and every thing bolted up nicely. I keep the standard rail legs under the bed of the fifth wheel should I ever need to pull with a truck that doesn’t have pucks. This has happened once when our truck broke down. Would definitely recommend this hitch.

We're glad to hear you're happy with your purchase! A light coat of a quality car wax will help protect the finish from the elements.

I purchased both the Curt A16 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - Dual Jaw - 16,000 lbs - C16120, and Reese Pull Pin Lock Plates for 5th Wheel Trailer Hitches - Qty 4 - RP58093 for my F350 SD 4X4 Crew Cab Long Bed. I'm pulling a 30' Retro 5th. Wheel and at times I pull my tandem axle UTV Trailer (Double Trailers) . I already had the rails installed in my truck, this fit right in and I used the new Pins and Lock Plates for securing to truck. I have pulled all over from South Dakota and the Northwest. The Hitch has performed Flawlessly. No bucking, nor clunking. Very quiet and smooth ride. I would recommend this set up to anyone for convenience of Hook up and Disconnect, Excellent towing, quiet, and the security of the lock pins. I use Disc locks to prevent access for bolt cutters.

Excellent! Still working as it did on day one. Very solid, easy to use, and the unit is very quiet. Also no chucking. I highly recommend this product to anybody. We now have 2020 Cameo 12,000# unloaded weight. Pulls perfectly.

Towed with it for the first time. Had a Curt Q20 a few years ago, the A series Curt is much easier to use for hitching/unhitching. Very smooth towing, didn’t notice any chucking or loud noises in use. Very pleased with purchase. Not difficult to assemble and since I have the fixed hitch version (long bed truck) it’s manageable getting the hitch out of the bed in parts.

Purchased this hitch, install kit, and wiring harness for a new to me 2015 F-250. After watching the installation video and reviewing the included instructions the install went smoothly. The only deviation from the instructions was instead of using a unibit to drill the 9/16" holes in the bed I used a Rotobroach hole cutter(the holes are cleaner and the bit does not drift. I hooked in to my fifth wheel for the first time on Saturday.

The hitch worked great, hooked and unhooked with ease.

Installation of the Curt C16443-204 custom rail kit was a snap on my 2000 F350 dually. The instructions were pretty generic but not to hard to figure out. Once in place it was easy to line line everything up to fit the hitch in and tighten everything down.

Easy to take apart to install in truck. The King Pin slides effortlessly into the jaws. Gives much quieter ride with no bucking. Built with safety in mind.

Extremely pleased with the rails and hitch purchased from etrailer! The video and printed directions were very informative. One caveat though, the bolts inside the frame on the custom kit (2017Chevy 2500hd) are tough, 2 people are needed. We used magnet rods. The hitch(Curt A16) is great but the shipping was FANTASTIC. Ordered on 4/29 and received on 5/1. 2 days!!! Thank you Jane S. and etrailer!!

The hitch was simple to install. I also purchased the custom brackets to bolt the rails to the frame. Everything lined up exactly as it should. No drilling on the frame!!! I will review the hitch once I get more use out of it. It looks great though.

It was easy to install and very solid, i towed my 16,000 5th wheel and it road very nice

Nice hitch and great service from etrailer. The shipper must have dropped the hitch en route and it was damaged on arrival. etrailer arranged a replacement without question. This is my second or third purchase from etrailer - always easy, efficient and very helpful pre-sales advice and customer service folks.

Great product, even better customer service, fast shipping, and a great price, installation was easy about 20 minutes, mounted on Reese mounting plate also from etrailer.

This is my first fifth wheel hitch. Been using it for about a year now. It was easy for me and a buddy to install(took about 3 1/2 hours) onto my 2017 Ford F250 and I'm not the handiest man on earth. It works great and was about half the cost of, say the B and W hitch. Not complicated at all to hitch up and go. My camper is only about 8800 pounds vs the 16,000 lbs rating of this hitch so I can't speak to its weight limit. I am very happy with it and would definitely recommend it.

Good quality, very quite while towing trailer, hooks and unhooks easily. When hitting bumps or rough roads - trailer does not jerk back and forth.

Unit appears solid and well built. Unit feels and appears well built. Nothing about the craftsmanship seems cheap or shoddy. Everything that moves is crisp and tight. There are no rattles or loose components. I feel confident towing with this hitch. If I have not towed with it yet. The hitch has a sleek strong appearance as opposed to my Superglide on a previous truck that took up a lot of bed space.

I had to assemble the unit. Instructions seemed unclear in regard to the handle assembly. With deliberate inspection, I was able to figure it out. Legs were easy to bolt on with assistance. I am happy with this hitch. Website said I needed to purchase a line plate separately. I forgot to get one but it didn't matter because one (plastic disk) was included with the hitch.

I paid for the shipping upgrade to ensure the hitch arrived before hurricane Mathew. I placed my order at night and eTrailer provided me with a tracking number the following morning. Shipping time said 3-5 days. I ordered late night on a Monday and unit arrived on Thursday afternoon. I'm very satisfied with my purchase and experience with this website.

After a year, I love this hitch. It’s easy to hook up and unhook unlike the auto slider hitch it replaced. Paint is still good. Silver stuff is still silver. Has a small patch on the head where the camper hitch slides on. Unit performs well. It is quiet during turns. I feel safe using it. I will buy a curt hitch again if ever I need a new one.

Customer service for product selection and order entry were excellent and focused on my interests and needs. The hitch, custom installation kit, and harness were shipped very quickly and arrived sooner than expected. Everything arrived in excellent condition. Assembly and installation instructions were very clear and specific, and I was able to assemble and install everything with no problems and in a very reasonable amount of time. Total cost was roughly half of what it would have been if I had purchased the products and had them installed by a dealer. I am very satisfied with my experience dealing with, and would highly recommend them to anyone shopping for towing products.

Awesome. The hitch has worked great. Very, Very happy with the purchase, delivery, installation which I did myself, and performance of the product. Thanks again,Ill be sure to refer anyone who needs products you offer to you.

Easy install great product love the interlocking jaws I can’t wait to tow with it thank you E trailer for a great used part well worth it with one little scratch on would buy a used product from etrailer anytime

The only problem I encountered was with UPS. First, they ignored a request not to deliver early and second they left my hitch on the porch where it was rained on....

The Curt Hitch was exactly as promised and the earliest installation I have done in a long time. It was simple and quick to install and fit my existing rails without a hitch (no pun intended). It will be a couple of weeks before I will be able to test it but it is a great looking hitch and looks like it will live up to all the reviews.

etrailer shipped this quick! I received notification that it would be delivered the next day and I did not purchase one day service and assumed it would not be delivered until after the holidays. The is the reason I contacted UPS and paid to have the service date changed, which UPS ignored and delivered anyways. I strongly recommend etrailer and will be using them again in the future.

The Curt Hitch is awesome! This hitch has made towing enjoyable. No more chucking when I am crossing bridges or hit dips.

Works every time. Great factory help when I had an issue on installation. Love the color coded hook up and un hook on the rear of the cannot go wrong with this system and it has great quality ....

Sturdy. At times I have unlatching or latching issues

Be sure to lubricate your locking jaw often. You need to also use a single 3-16th thick lube plate or a high-pressure wheel bearing grease applied to the 5th wheel skid plate.

Got the hitch Friday, had it in the truck in about a half hour . Am impressed with the quality and looks. My second order with etrailer, my go to seller for anything campers and trailers. I did not experiance any problems with assembly or installation. Am starting on a 10000 mile trip in June, looking for a trouble free trip with the Curt hitch!

had some trouble keeping wedge part tight 16,000 mile trip,3 months-hope I got it fixed for this year!

I am writing this review more for etrailer, than for the hitch. I am happy with the hitch, and it is what I expected, but more than that, I am happy with the support that etrailer personnel provided. They researched the product, gave me all the options, and made sure that it was exactly what we needed. It is rare to find the level of support that etrailer gives their customers, and great prices to go with it!

Still love the hitch and etrailer!

Once installed it was easy to lineup with trailer. I’m a first time 5th wheeler.

I like the dual jaws. They hold the king pin tighter than the slide bar style. I also like the color coded hook indicator on the front, although a complete visual inspection should be done each time you hook. The only shortcomings I can see are the height, it's a little short even on the highest adjustment, and the quality of the Chinese fasteners leave a little to be desired. Other than that, it pulls securely and quietly. It couples and uncouples very smoothly. Overall it is a nice heavy duty piece.

The first one I bought had some internal problems and became very loose around the kingpin when towing. I talked to an Etrailer rep and he put me in touch with the Curt manufacturer directly who sent me a new hitch and had me send the old one back at no expense to me. I was very pleased with Etrailers and Curts customer service. They listened, understood, and solved the problem very quickly once it was identified. Thank you, and I WILL look to you for my further trailer needs.

My Curt A16 hitch came promptly and was very well packaged without any damage. Installation on the rails was easy as there is good tolerance in the connections. Removing the two main separate components took some patience and I recommend silicone spray on rubber parts for continued attachment/detachment. This particular hitch was very stiff and it helped to spray the jaws liberally with silicone/WD-40 and apply a couple strokes of grease. This is a rather simple, strong hitch. It closes very tight on the kingpin and towing over rough roads gives very good control. Being able to remove the top part of the hitch is a very strong advantage. Pay close attention to the directions for hookup in that alignment requires the RV hitch to be just below the top of the hitch plate. Initially unhooking was a bit challenging for me as I was used to a previous slide bar hitch and the Curt does not spread the jaws all the way open. It does unhook well after limbered up a bit. I do recommend you periodically apply some good quality car wax to protect the finish.

  • How to Tow a Fifth Wheel Trailer with a Truck that has a Bed Shorter than 6 Feet
Since your truck bed is shorter than 6 feet your only option for towing a fifth wheel trailer will be to replace the pin box of your trailer with a Sidewinder pin box and use a stationary hitch. Check out the FAQ article I attached on Sidewinders. With Sidewinders a slider hitch is not necessary as the clearance to make sharp turns is there already. When towing with a standard king pin, the fifth wheel trailer turns or pivots where the king pin is connected to the hitch. With the sidewinder,...

  • How to Reduce Chucking when Towing 5th-Wheel Trailer without Replacing Trailer Pin Box
There are a couple of ways other than replacing the pin box on your trailer that can help to reduce the chucking you are experiencing. First, I simply recommend checking to make sure the tongue weight of your trailer is around 10-15 percent of its total loaded weight. If the tongue weight is too light, this can lead to chucking issues. You can simply redistribute some of the cargo in the trailer in order to put more weight up front. Another option is the fifth-wheel trailer hitch itself....

It is a little strange that you are experiencing more chucking with a cushioned dual-jaw hitch that you were with a slide bar hitch with an non-cushioned head.
