Secure, Interlocking Two-Piece Jaw

A16 Two-Piece Interlocking Jaw

Unlike slide-bar models, the rounded, interlocking, two-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel trailer hitch inhibits rattle and movement by securely wrapping around your trailer's king pin, resulting in easier hookup and a safer, quieter ride.

Three-Point Indicator System

A16 Color Indicator System

Get peace of mind with Curt's color-coded lock indicator. Just look at the indicator - either the one on the handle or the one on the hitch itself - to determine whether the jaw is in the correct position to uncouple (red), couple (yellow) or tow (green).

R16 Slider

Most often used on trucks with 6' and 6-1/2' beds, this roller helps to eliminate clearance problems during slow-speed turns. When you are towing a fifth-wheel trailer, your hitch must be situated on the cab side of your truck's rear axle. However, at slow speeds you can use a roller to slide the fifth-wheel hitch (and the trailer) toward your truck's tailgate and past the rear axle, creating enough space between the cab of your truck and the trailer to permit less-restricted turning.

Non-Binding Design

The round-tube design of this slider allows for relatively uninhibited movement of your fifth-wheel hitch. Because your hitch can glide smoothly and easily along the rods, there is less chance of binding.

With straight, flat contact points, as found with square-tube sliders, tension can build between the slider and the hitch when your truck and trailer are somewhat out of line or are on uneven ground. As a result, it can be difficult to properly activate the slider when your truck and trailer are not in a straight line.

With a round-tube slider, there is more give between the contacting surfaces, allowing better mobility of the hitch system. Fewer corners means less tension buildup. Activating a round-tube slider is easier, and operation as a whole is smoother.

Curt rebranded this fifth-wheel trailer hitch by changing its name from Q16 to A16 in 2016. All features and specifications remained the same.

The Curt A16 hitch is awesome. It never binds, tugs or has to settle in before it stops jerking. Works perfectly every time and keeps the ride nice and smooth. It is light-years ahead of the Reese 15k hitch that we had been using for the past few years. I cannot explain how happy I am with this hitch and the service we always get from etrailer. A++ guys. You are the best. I will always keep coming to you for my camping and towing needs. Thank you.

Fantastic. I really love this product. It has made my camping life so much easier and enjoyable than my old Reese hitch which was constantly binding. Thanks etrailer. You guys are always there when I need you.

Great product. Easy to assemble and fits perfectly in standard bed rails on 22” center. I have coupled up with it but have not towed with it yet. Have a short trip of about 400 miles coming up in about 2 weeks. So far I am very happy with the way it couples and slides. Unlike my old square tube slider this one is very smooth and the price was right . Ordered late afternoon on Thursday and it delivered on Monday. Great shipping time. I like everything about it especially the fact that when you uncouple it is automatically set to recouple.

This hitch is an outstanding product. Tows great with no noise. Extremely easy to hookup and unhook. I’ve had this a year and would highly recommend it. This is definitely a 5 star product.

Just received this and haven't installed it yet. I plan to add it to my truck in about 2 weeks. This is exactly the same as my last truck which was a perfect fit. It also worked great pulling my 35-foot fifth wheel RV. I look forward to the same quality as before, perfection.

After a year the hitch still works perfectly. I wouldnt expect anything less.

My Curt A16 5th wheel trailer hitch with the R16 slider have turned out to be just what I needed for my truck and trailer. I have a 2017 Ram 2500 short bed pick-up. To start with I had an adapter in the bed of the truck which stands about 2" tall which I had purchased used and reconditioned. With the Slider and the Hitch installed on the adapter and the hitch set at it's lowest setting the unit is the perfect height for my 5th wheel. I pull a Cougar 23MLS 5th wheel. As I stated my Ram has a short bed but with the setup I have and the front of the Cougar being styled as it is, I have never had to use the slider when pulling the 5th wheel or when parking it. Even though I have never needed to use the slide, I'm glad that I have it due to the fact that it makes the set-up the perfect height for my trailer and maybe some day I might get into a spot where I might want to use it. As with any short bed pick-up I do keep a sharp eye on the trailer when backing up to park but so far I have not seen the front of the trailer getting really close to the cab of the pick-up at any time. Between the Hitch on the 5th wheel and the dual jaw of the Curt Hitch I get a really smooth ride going down the road. When I get to my destination I don't feel like I've been on some wild ride going down the road. To date the best Hitch and Trailer that I have ever had. Wish I had some pictures to share but do not have at this time.

First off I just got done installing the hitch and I hooked on my 35ft fith wheel trailer and went for a ride with windows down sun roof open and not a single rattle , clank , or noise from the bed of the truck with this hitch . It was easy to assemble but I did have one spot where the paint got chipped on the slider during shipping so I just touched it up . Very satisfied with hitch it latches automatically when you back in to it and the slider part works like it should .

The products have worked flawlessly no problems and thank you for checking back with me its nice when a company cares about there costumers. Next time I need any trailer products I will definitely be contacting etrailer.

I was excited at first to get this hitch, but after using it since June 2020 at would not recommend it to my friends. It does not close consistently when trying to hook up my 5th wheel and does not open consistently when trying to unhitch. I'm very disappointed in the is product, especially since it had good reviews. I will be looking soon for another product to replace this one. It is too frustrating to not know if it is going to be an easy hitch/unhitch. I hope this helps for people looking to buy this hitch.

- C16521

This is my first fifth wheel. I have a short bed so I got the package deal with the hitch and the slider. Took me about 5 hrs to install with the custom mounting brackets and rails for my 2015 chevy 2500 HD. Everything went as the instructions said without any issues. I have only pulled my RV with it one time just to try it out. Felt very smooth no rattles or pops as I have herd with other hitches. So far I like it a lot.

- C16521

Great hitch used it on a few trips already driven over 3,000 miles. Love the dual jaws and the adjustability, my truck sits a bit higher and I was able to adjust this down to get it where it needed to be- even with the Reese adapter plate(see photo). The polyurethane is also a nice touch, makes the ride a little more cozy then a standard hitch. Use with the provided lube plate

- C16521

I am very pleased with my 5th wheel hitch.the install of the rails went well, and the assembly of the hitch itself also went well.first time towing 5th wheel no problem. I thought it was great that it was delivered promptly to my home no charge freight, that I believe saved me a lot money. I look forward to doing more towing this summer knowing the hitch is quality . Thank you for the follow up,I would recommend e trailer to anybody shopping for trailering equipment.

Could not be happier. ...shipping arriving on time as scheduled, with other options available to your needs. Shipping boxes little tore up but exspected as it is heavy, but product boxes undamaged along with the items.. Assembly easy with directions included, and a video to help if needed. ..or staff to call to get you through. Had existing rails to mount into, with the side mounting right in...head assembly fit into the slide without any issues. You will have to make your height adjustments depending on your needs for your application as I did.. First pull I made from last hitch was a 100% noticeable difference. Hook up and disconect with ease without any issues. I will HIGHLY recommend etrailer for any needs to anyone they may have or products needing. Thanks etrailer. ..you will be hearing from me down the road if needed for any of my RV needs

I have installed the A16 slider on a 2020 Chevrolet 2500HD with the OEM puck system and a standard bed. I also installed the Demco 6333 rails. The A16 was shipped in two boxes and arrived within a couple days, which was much quicker than I had anticipated. We are moving from a travel trailer to a fifth wheel trailer and the trade developed pretty fast so the hitch arrived in plenty of time to get it mounted in the truck. Thank you etrailer! I have not towed with it yet but here are my comments as to the install and overall impression. It arrived damage free and all the parts were there. The instructions were for the most part straight forward, but I would recommend watching one of the etrailer install videos. I did and it did clear up some issues in the written instructions. Although, I couldn't find one for the A16 so I watched the A20 video. A similar install. It does require some metric sockets. The only problem I had with the slider was the inside mounting screws. They require an allen wrench for torquing. I almost stripped one of the heads when torquing. I realized I didn't have the allen in far enough. My bad and just a caution. The A16 comes with a set of rubber(?) spacers that fit between the slider mounts and the rail. They recommend using them but state that they may not fit in some installations. Well, I was bound and determined to use them on mine. Without them you could see and feel the slack between the rails and slider. It took a good bit of work and greasing the pins to get the pins in. The hitch head went on pretty easy. Four bolts and the handle install and you're done. One issue I have with my truck and this install is this: with the hitch setting at its lowest height, it sits 19" above the truck bed, almost parallel with the bed rails. Some of that height comes from the Demco rails which sit 2 3/4" above the bed. Not having picked up the trailer yet, I don't know exactly where the hitch head will need to be. One thing I do know is that it can't go any lower. I also have a bakflip bed cover and when closed it just covers the hitch. I realize that if the hitch needs to be raised, the bed cover won't close but it's not that hard to remove the hitch head on the A16. Did that already as a test. There's also the issue of the cover being folded back and hitting the front of the trailer on a sharp turn. I realize this has nothing to do with the operation or use of the A16 but may be something to consider for someone in a similar configuration. Unless something develops later, I am at this point pretty happy with the A16. And etrailer has always come through, are great to work with and very responsive on the shipping.

This fifth wheel hitch is just wonderful. The construction seems to be very sturdy and well made. The unit is user friendly. Would recommend this product to anyone looking for this type of hitch. Very Pleased with this product.

We love our Curt A16 5th Wheel Hitch W/r16 Slider that we purchased last year through etrailer.com. This hitch is a top quality, well-made hitch. It's very easy to hitch and unhitch. We couldn't be happier.

- C16521

We use this hitch on our auction lot to move fifth wheel travel trailers from our storage yard to our preview area. The hitch is the best one we have ever had. Well built, easy to use. And it gets a lot of use, moving an average of 20 fifth wheel units every week. Hopefully we won't need to purchase another one, but if we do, this is what we will buy, from etrailer. They are the best.

- C16521

Did a lot of research and asked multiple folks with 5th wheels. Decided on the Curt. It does chuck a bit, but overall happy with the hitch.

- C16521

Got the trailer hitch installed and am looking forward to trying it out this coming spring. What's nice about this Curt hitch is that it fits under the tonneau cover. E-trailer is a good company to work with! Very courteous people! Thank you!

- C16521

I recently installed the Q16 Slider Hitch on my 2004 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. I have used it a couple of times now pulling my 5th wheel and have had no issues with it at all. I used the slide feature twice and both times it worked very easily and had my truck and trailer at a 90 degree angle with plenty of room to spare. Great product, was delivered in a very timely manner with no issues.

- C16521

I received the 2500HD custom fit rail kit and A16 slider hitch very quickly which was great because we were on a time crunch to pick up our new camper. I selected this hitch and rail combination after reading all of the positive reviews. A buddy and I installed it ourselves in a few hours and could not be more happy with the fitment. We used the installation video below the product description which really helped. Etrailer was great to work with and I would definitely order from them again. We will be picking up our fifth wheel this weekend and will comment on how well it performs!

- C16521

Hello. I believe your talking about the curt fifth wheel hitch. We absolutely love it. We wish we changed sooner.

- C16521

Great service, great products. Along with the slide hitch I also got the rails and brackets for my truck. It was a perfect fit. The only difficulty was tightening the bolts going through the bed to the brackets. There’s only about an inch clearance. The only thing I would change would be flipping the bolts so the nuts were easy to get to in the bed. However I was afraid it would compromise strength and safety. Ordered on Monday, delivered on Wednesday. And shipping was free!!! Awesome for a nearly 300lbs shipment.

- C16521

Solid. Well built. I would purchase this again.

Sierra 6.5 box. Still havent needed the slider since my fivers nose is rounded but I wouldnt trade this hitch for anything. It has never failed to perform.

Awesome company, responded immediately to offer solutions for a unit to pull a camper/trailer. Followed through with delivery information and beyond.

- C16521

Good unit but be aware it could not be lowered enough to keep my trailer from riding nose high in a 2018 Ram.

Hi Roger, Thanks for your feedback! If you are looking for another hitch that will be able to sit lower in the bed of your truck, then I would recommend the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch w Round Tube Slider - Dual Jaw - 16,000 lbs, part RP30075 . This hitch will sit as low as 15 inches instead of 17.5 inches, allowing your trailer to sit lower in the front. I have also attached a helpful article that shows how to measure to make sure the 5th wheel hitch you have has the correct height.

- C16521

The ease of use with this hitch is unsurpassed. It slipped right into the rails in my bed and towed like a dream. No chucking or banging when starting/stopping. I almost forgot I had almost 11,000 pounds behind me. Thank you Curt and etrailer!

- C16521

I can't say enough about the customer service at etrailer. There was a mix up with a 5th wheel hitch and rails I ordered and since they ship so quickly I wasn't able to stop the order. They sent me return labels no questions asked. I've been using the Curt A16 for a couple of weeks now and its great. I have a 2016 ram 2500, b&w gooseneck hitch, Curt rails that fit into the gooseneck then the A16. Go with these guys, they get it right!

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for Factory Pucks in 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 Short Bed
The # C16521 Curt A16 5th wheel hitch you've looked at would work great in your 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 short bed. You would also need the # C88KR rail kit. The rail kit would drop into the factory pucks, and the hitch would mount to the rail kit. The A16 features an interlocking jaw system that holds the king pin tightly all the way around its circumference, preventing any movement of the king pin for a smooth ride without all the banging and clanging you'd experience with other hitches. • Does 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 Short Bed Need Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch and Hitch Options
You are right about the 2020 Chevy Silverado 2500 short bed being slightly longer than the 2016 models; according to Chevy, the 2020 short bed is 82.25 inches while the 2016 short bed is 78.9 inches. That isn't enough of a difference to negate needing a sliding hitch. Even if your use of the slider is limited, it only takes one instance of taking a turn slightly too sharp for your trailer to crash into the cab of your Chevy, causing potentially significant damage to both the truck and trailer....

  • Do I Have to Have a Sliding 5th Wheel Hitch in a Short Bed Truck
You do not have to use a sliding 5th wheel hitch in a short bed truck. In many cases, truck beds shorter than 8 ft do not have enough clearance between the trailer and truck to execute sharp turns. This is why sliding hitches were invented. Due to the popularity of short bed trucks, trailer manufacturers started making more 5th wheel trailers with angled or indented noses so they do not contact your truck cab when turning such as the Highland Ridge Light 5th wheel trailer. The downside...

  • How to Determine if a Truck has Industry Standard Above the Bed 5th Wheel Rails
It sounds like your 2013 GMC Sierra 2500 has standard above the bed rails for a 5th wheel hitch. Take a look at the picture I have included which shows the hitch mounting measurements for industry standard above the bed rails. If the ones in your truck bed are the same then you can install any hitch that fits in industry standard rails. Since the truck was previously owned you might just want to have a mechanic check to make sure all of rail and brackets under the bed the rails are attached...

  • Towing Capacity and Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch for 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4
Based on my research your 2015 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4 with the 5.3L engine and 3.42 axle ratio has a towing capacity of 9,500 pounds. As long as the 5th wheel trailer you're considering remains under this weight once it's fully loaded it looks like you will be good to go. I do still recommend verifying this capacity by taking a look at your owner's manual or even visiting/calling a local Chevy dealer with your VIN. To pull a 5th wheel trailer you will need to install a set of...

  • How Much Does Curt A16 Fifth Wheel Hitch C16521 Weigh
The total weight for the Curt hitch part # C16521 that you referenced is 193 lbs. Slider hitches in general are pretty heavy since there is a lot of moving parts which have to be very strong. The Reese 16 part # RP30047 is an excellent hitch that weighs in at 176 lb which is a bit lighter weight. This hitch works well because it has a round tube slider which will operate smoother than a square tube and because it has a great 2 jaw system that provides excellent king pin contact.

  • What is the Height Adjustment Range for the Curt A16 Fifth Wheel Hitch
The Curt # C16521 5th wheel hitch you mentioned is indeed height adjustable from 17-1/2 to 21-1/2 inches in height. Some of the bed sides on todays trucks are pretty tall (like the Ford F Series), so the hitch heights needed to increase as well. To determine the necessary hitch height so your 5th wheel tows level, jack the 5th wheel so it's level. Measure from the bottom of the skid plate to the ground (not the king pin). Then measure the height of the truck's bed from the ground. Finding...

  • Can Curt Fifth Wheel Clear Top of Bed on 2017 Ford F-250
The Curt A16 # C16521 is going to give you the highest available hitch setting, though it still is not going to give you a 7 inch clearance over the top of your 2017 Ford F-250's bed. If you need additional clearance to stay level, you would want to consider a king pin replacement; I've added a link to our page with all of our replacement king pins for you to take a look at. The Curt # C16521 will install into the truck bed of your '17 F-250 with the Curt Custom 5th Wheel Installation...

  • How Much Side-to-Side Movement of 5th Wheel Trailer is Acceptable When Using Curt Hitch # C16521
It is important for any trailer to be level when hitched, whether a bumper-pull or a 5th wheel, and it is also necessary to have enough clearance at the bed rails for the trailer's overhang. The linked diagram shows the recommended minimum clearances for a 5th wheel a the bed rails, tailgate and bumper. Because the Curt hitch # C16521 has a cushioned head, it will tend to provide more sideways movement than a non-cushioned type. It may be possible to increase the height of the trailer...

  • Differences Between Curt A16 and Q16 Fifth Wheel Hitch
The head design is slightly different for the A16 hitch # C16521. It's the more recent version of the Q16 that you also mentioned. They made the heads strong enough to be able to be used with a Sidewinder pin box and they upgraded the warranty from 10 year limited to lifetime limited.

  • Comparing Sliding Hitch vs. Sidewinder for 40-Foot Toy Hauler Towed by 2014 Short-Bed Ram 2500
In your application with a roughly 40-foot toy hauler towed by your short-bed Ram 2500 a Sidewinder replacement pin box is the way to go. A sliding 5th wheel hitch like the Curt Q16 # C16521 can give a short bed truck like your 2014 Ram 2500 up to 12-inches of additional turning clearance. On the other hand, a Sidewinder replacement 5th wheel pin box, when used with a fixed 5th wheel hitch, gives you a full 22-inches of additional turning clearance. Sidewinders are made as replacements...

  • Recommended 5th Wheel Hitch 2015 Dodge Ram 1500 with Short Bed
The best complete system I can recommend for your 2015 Ram 1500 with 5-1/2 foot bed, would be the Demco Hijacker Autoslide, # DM8550040. This hitch slides automatically while you drive to give you 22-1/2 inches of additional clearance for tight turns. It's design relieves you from getting into and out of the truck to operate a manual slider. It has a built in roller-and-guide assembly that allows for smooth, controlled, and automatic movement. This hitch would be paired with the Demco...

Right now Husky does not have anything to fit the 2017 Chevrolet Sierra 3500 with the factory rail kit. If you have a short bed truck the Curt # C16521 hitch with adapter rails # C16023 will work for you. If your truck has an 8 foot bed I suggest the B&W Companion # BWRVK3700 that will work for you.
