Is this right For you? Product Expert Kathleen M says:

Yes, if you:

  • Like being able to back-up to your king pin and hook up without having to get out to open and close the jaws each time
  • Tow with a dually truck or aren't super tall and like having a longer handle to make it easier to throw open the jaws
  • Have a pin box that doesn't extend down very far and need a hitch that sits almost even with your bed rails

No, if you:

  • Don't want to do the extra work needed to clear out paint in bolt holes and threads
  • Use a tonneau cover often and don't want to have to take out the hitch to close it
  • Prefer getting the most overbuilt hitch available, even if it's more than you really need
Heavy-duty 5th-wheel hitch has a 1-piece, wraparound jaw and easy-to-see lock indicator for maximum safety and security. Forged, Self-Latching Jaw

Self-Latching Jaw

The one-piece jaw on this fifth-wheel hitch provides absolute security with its wraparound design. Increased jaw-to-king-pin contact results in not only a stronger connection, but less noisy rattling and stiff chucking as well.

The jaw is also always ready to receive, so you don't need to use the handle to open it before backing up toward your trailer. As long as the bail pin is removed from the latching handle, the jaw will accept the king pin as it enters the hitch.

Finally, the jaw is self-latching, so it will automatically secure your trailer's king pin when it moves into the jaw.

Quiet, Comfortable Ride

Pivot Bushings

In addition to the tight jaw tolerance, a close connection between the head and the pivot bushings further reduces rattle and movement. And because the pivot bushings are independent from the head, they can be tightened to ensure a strong connection over time.

King Pin Indicator Prevents High Pinning

King Pin Indicator

This M5 hitch features a built-in king pin indicator to ensure proper hookup. This indicator is located on the back of the head along with a V-shaped notch that are both visible from the cab of your truck. The V-notch is lined up with the jaw at the front of the hitch, and can be used as a guiding point to line the king pin up with the jaw as you back up your truck. The jaw also has an internal plate that keeps the king pin from entering if it is too high to enter safely. As a result, the king pin indicator will only change from red to green if the king pin is fully engaged in the jaw.

Easy-to-Use Latching Handle

Lever and Hitch

This hitch's handle is designed for smooth motion and effortless operation. It requires only 2 fingers to use and won't bind up as you pull. In addition, the handle is long, so it's easy to access from outside of your truck bed. And the ergonomic grip makes it comfortable to hold and pull from different angles.

Heavy-duty 5th-wheel hitch has a 1-piece, wraparound jaw and easy-to-see lock indicator for maximum safety and security. Fully articulating head with large landing area and kingpin target make hookup a snap.

Tried to install this on a 2001 Chevy Silverado 3500, dual rear wheel, long bed, 4x4, diesel engine truck. The clamp style mounting simply does not work. The ONLY way I can see this working is by drilling added holes in the frame of the truck at the front end of the side plates. This is because of a bend in the frame at the clamp location. Also at this location the frame is boxed in and any bolt holes will be hidden. Bolts would have to fished in with bolt wires.

I see that you are stuck on some parts of this installation. I have gotten in contact with one of our technicians and they had mentioned that you should be able to find what you need in the instructions on page 5. https:www.reeseprod.comproduct-assetsinstallN30926.pdf

I love it. It’s very easy for me to setup. The only issue i had was rge breakout away cable snapped in have and i was not able to find a replacement. I had a friend who was able to make me another one.

I had to return this hitch as it was unusable due to manufacturing defects. etrailer honored the return and refunded me completely.

Just received yesterday, will be having it installed on Monday and will be pulling my new camper home next Saturday. Will update afterwards with pics

Great product, shipped in really good time, etrailer was excellent in communication, only small problem was package was damaged in transit, and my item had some pretty bad scratches on it. But when I notified etrailer of this they gave me a choice of shipping it back in exchange for a new one or giving me a nice credit back if I could live with the scratches. I choose the latter and I thought it was great that they gave me the choice.

Loved the product, hated the installation instructions

I've only just got it installed and as of yet have not tested it under load. Hope to pick-up and tow my RV back home this weekend. I will update My review when I return.

Always polite and know exactly what you need for your application. Tim was a pleasure to work with.

one great hitch!

2 of the 3 boxes arived the day before it was scheduled to arrive. The 3rd box arrived the next day as scheduled. The qr code on the head did not work, it took me to a 404 error page on the Reese site.

Got expert advice from David B Everything arrived and put on today. Worked beautifully

Great hitch. Easy to use and pulls my 40ft rig like a champion!

Thank you so much

This product has worked out fabulous customer service from each other was exceptional

Ask the Experts about this Reese Fifth Wheel Hitch

  • Benefits of Fifth Wheel Hitch with 4 Way Pivoting Head vs. 2 Way Head
The answer to your question will depend on what kind of surfaces your tow vehicle will be parked on when you hitch/unhitch the trailer. If you are going to find yourself pretty consistently on level, even pavement, then a fifth wheel hitch whose head pivots forward and back will work fine for you. On the other hand, if you will hitch and unhitch on uneven ground on a regular basis, you will thank yourself for going with a hitch that has the 4 way pivoting head, like the Reese 5th Wheel...

You will need to check the on center distance between the attachment points between the legs on your hitch to determine if the Reese 16K hitch will fit in the rails for your RBW hitch. If the attachment points in your rails are 20-15/16 inches apart then, you can use the Reese 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch - 16,000 lbs, item # RP30047. I would recommend upgrading to the Select Plus 18K Fifth Wheel Hitch, item # RP30928, which has been recently upgraded to 20K. This hitch will give you the added...

To measure the height that the fifth wheel head will need to be, on your custom made bed, you will need to park the vehicle and trailer on a fairly level surface and do some measuring. Back your vehicle under the fifth-wheel trailer stopping when the center of the king pin is directly above the center of the fifth-wheel attachment jaws. Measure from the top of the bed on the truck to the base of the pin box on the trailer. This will give you the measurement needed to select a mounting...

There is not a custom wedge currently offered for the Curt Q5. The Curt Q Series hitches have much wider jaws than the A Series hitches, so even with a wedge, the Q Series hitches are incompatible with Sidewinders. If you have an 8-foot truck bed, you could replace the Sidewinder with a standard pin box and use the Curt hitch as planned. However, if your truck bed is 6 feet or shorter, the Sidewinder is a necessity, so the other option would be to use a different hitch. One other hitch...

  • Recommendation to Give a Fifth Wheel Trailer and Hitch Additional Bed Rail Clearance
Many fifth wheel pin boxes are adjustable, check to make sure yours is in the lowest position so that you would have the better bed rail clearance. They say a minimum of 6 inches of clearance between the bed rails and the fifth wheel hitch is required. Usually between raising the hitch and lowering the pin box you can get enough clearance and still have your trailer tow level.

  • Ford F-250 or Ram 1500 to Tow a 2000 Damon Challenger 34 Foot 5th Wheel Trailer
From what I could find your 2000 Damon Challenger weighs around 9,400 pounds. This should be right in the wheelhouse for a 1-ton and some 3/4 tons. I would not select a 1/2 ton truck to tow this trailer. The best trucks to tow 5th wheel trailers are 1-ton (3500/350 series) with long beds and diesel motors but gas would be fine too. Trucks with 2-wheel drive actually have higher towing capacities than 4-wheel drive models. So if you are choosing between the F-250 and a 1500 Ram, the...

Lift kits can make fifth wheel towing more difficult to set up, but that depends on how tall of a lift is on the vehicle. The main difference between an F-250 and an F-350 is the amount of weight they are designed to tow. For the most part the engines and transmissions will be the same between the two.
