I haven’t had a chance to use this yet but it is built very solid and definitely has some weight to it. I have no doubt that this hitch is everything you could expect from a REESE gooseneck application, if you break this you have bigger problems than just a broken hitch.
The hitch works well, but be aware that the height of the ball is much higher than a regular in bed gooseneck hitch.1186121

Arrived on time and works well allowing me to switch from a fifth wheel to a gooseneck quickly. You may have to adjust the trailer hight if you share it with a truck that has the ball in the bed as this will be a little higher.435110

nice heavy duty unit , ball does spin with a bit of effort,i wonder if i should take the off pull the ball and grease it431625

The ball is made to spin a bit to avoid binding with the gooseneck coupler. The hitch ball is not designed for removal but you will need to lubricate the ball with a white grease such as part # 58117 White Grease Hitch Ball Lube $10.52.
We still use our Ford F-350 to tow our trailer. We could no longer could use the 5th wheel attachment in the bed of the pickup. The new goose neck ball fits perfectly on the rails. Easy to install, easy to remove. A perfect companion with gooseneck trailers. ETrailer has everything you would need to outfit your rig. There customer service will go beyond to help you make the right choice.374782

Alot cheaper than a flush mount hitch, I already had a fith wheel mounted. The only things I was worried about was the mount being loose and movement with the ball. I've towed a 25' horse trailer with 3 horses approx 15k, and a 20' lowboy trailer with a small skidsteer and mini Ex approx 25k. The hitch is solid no movement, the handles make a great place to attach safety chains the ball swaps out fast just a circle clip. IMO its makes alot of sense to go this way especially if you plan to get a fithwheel.124514

We recently were interested in ordering the Reese Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch from e-trailer.com and wasn't certain that it would fit our Reese rail system. We contacted Kimberly at etrailer.com and she contacted the Reese Manufacturer to confirm that the Trailer Hitch would fit our model. We were extremely satisfied with both the product and the exceptional service.173272

Product is exactly as Rebecca described it, just what I expected. She's great at product knowledge.

The Reese Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch Adapter # RP58079 that you referenced should install in the fifth wheel rails you have in the bed of your 1996 Chevy Truck and provide you with a gooseneck hitch.
My sister uses this product in her truck and it works well.
I attached a review video for this product for you to check out also. view full answer...
The plate itself is 3 inches thick. A standard bed rail is 1-1/4 inch thick, so when mounted in a standard bed rail, the top of the plate would be 4-1/4 inches above the upper corrugation of the bed floor, as shown in the photo I have edited for you.
The hitch itself is rated at 25,000 lbs, and a pin weight capacity of 6,250 lbs, but you will be limited to the capacity of your truck if it is lower. view full answer...
They say 4-6 inches is the amount of clearance you will want between the bed rails of your truck to the trailer. Since you said you live in the hills you might want to try and be on the high end of that to be safe. view full answer...
I am not completely sure which fifth wheel hitch you have. If you have the Reese # RP30051, which uses the industry standard fifth wheel hitch mounting rails, the # RP58079 gooseneck hitch you referenced would work absolutely perfectly for you.
To determine if your bed rails are industry standard, compare the distances of the mounting slots to the photo I have edited for you. To be compatible with the Reese RP58079, your rails should have slots that are 22 inches apart front-to-back on... view full answer...
The Reese Above-Bed Gooseneck Hitch # RP58079 mounts in your existing 5th wheel base rails to allow towing a gooseneck-equipped trailer. This unit has a vertical load limit (tongue weight) capacity of 6,250-lbs and a gross towing weight rating of 25,000-lbs.
Fifth wheel base rails are not specifically load-rated; the same base rails will be used with a 15K hitch and with a 20K hitch. The limiting factor for pulling your cattle trailers will be your Ram tow rating.
According to my research... view full answer...
The Reese Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch, # RP58079, is designed to fit in Reese above the bed rails that a 5th wheel hitch would normally fit in. As long as the mounting slot distance between the rails (where the hitch will attach) is approximately 22 inches, and the side to side distance between the inner most mounting slots is approximately 10 inches on center, it will fit.
I have included a link to the installation details for you. The hitch itself is rated for 25K but if the truck... view full answer...
Yes, you can use the base rails you initially had installed on your 2008 Dodge Ram pickup, but you will likely need to have custom brackets made so your base rails can fit properly on your flatbed.
The reason you may need custom brackets made is flat beds tend to sit higher off the truck frame than a standard bed. If this is the case with your bed, the current frame brackets will not be tall enough to attach the base rails.
Also, if your bed is taller than your old bed, you will need... view full answer...
We recommend 6 inches as the minimum clearance between bed rails and trailer overhang so your clearance of 7-3/4 inches would be just fine.
The picture you sent in does trouble me. If that is a picture that shows your trailer attached to your gooseneck hitch it would appear you have some problems. For one the gooseneck hitch is way too far behind the rear axle (it is supposed to be right above rear axle) and the nose of your trailer looks very nose high. view full answer...
Yes, you can use the Reese Above Bed Gooseneck Hitch adapter part # RP58079 with a Reese Goose Box fifth wheel to gooseneck adapter! This kit would also fit perfectly with the B and W rails you have installed in your truck as well. view full answer...
As long as the base rails for your Reese 22K Classic 5th Wheel Hitch are standard, above-bed rails, I recommend using the Reese Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # RP58079 to tow your gooseneck trailer. This is designed to mount directly to existing fifth-wheel rails and will provide a 2-5/16 inch ball and a towing capacity of 25,000 pounds.
I have attached the written installation instructions and a video demonstration on this product that you can also check out. view full answer...
Definitely a good idea to know what you're getting and yes, the hardware shown in the photo does come with the Reese Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # RP58079 so you'll be all set. view full answer...
The tongue weight of your horse trailer will certainly increase when the horses are on board but by how much will just depend on where exactly they're situated inside the trailer (along with their actual weights). Tongue weight refers to the vertical weight that's being pushed onto the the bed of your truck via the gooseneck ball. So the further up towards the front of the trailer the horses are, the more weight they're going to add to this particular number.
If you already have industry-standard,... view full answer...
The Reese Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch, # RP58079, can be installed using any industry standard 5th Wheel base rails.
This gooseneck hitch will connect to the base rails using included pull pins and clips. This hitch has built-in safety chain loops and has a gross towing weight 25,000 lbs. view full answer...

One of the gooseneck trailer hitch adapters we offer is part # RP58079. This holds the ball in place with a clip and the ball will spin. We offer two gooseneck trailer hitch adapters from Reese that will allow you to hook your gooseneck trailer up while using fifth wheel rails.
The other adapter is the one you came from, part # 49080 and it has the ball welded in place. If the weld has broken and allows the ball to move, it would be dangerous and you should stop using it immediately.

When comparing the difference between these two gooseneck hitches you will find they have a lot of similar features. Both the # 16085 and # RP58079 are designed with a towing capacity up to 25,000-lbs and have a vertical load limit of 6,250-lbs. Both mount to industry-standard fifth wheel rails.
The hitch I recommend is the # RP58079. The hitch ball included with this hitch is held in place with a snap-ring and that alows the ball to rotate which helps reduce binding with the gooseneck... view full answer...
You'd want to inspect the hitch ball and the base of your # RP58079 that you have to determine if there is any wear. If the ball shank seems worn then you'd want to replace it with the part # 19310 that you referenced. If the base is worn you'd need to replace the entire part # RP58079. If the base is worn you'd want to verify too that you aren't exceeding the 25k capacity of the plate. Welding the ball would not be ideal either as it will void the warranty of the adapter. view full answer...
The hitch ball for the Pro Series 25K Gooseneck Plate # 49080 referenced in your question is welded into place and cannot be removed.
If you are looking for a similar gooseneck plate that attaches to 5th wheel base rails but with a removable hitch ball I recommend taking a look at the Reese Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch # RP58079. The ball for this system locks into place with a snap ring. This not only allows the ball to be removed if needed but also lets it rotate when you're towing... view full answer...
The Reese 15K 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch uses above bed industry standard base rails so if you need to tow a gooseneck trailer you can remove this hitch and install the Reese Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch part # RP58079. view full answer...
The Reese Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch, part # RP58079, will attach to your base rails that are installed in your 2009 GMC Sierra 2500 Diesel short bed truck. You will not need to use any other additional parts.
If you have the Reese base rails in your vehicle they will be rated for 25,000lbs and the Reese gooseneck hitch is rated for 25,000lbs, so your towing capacity will be limited to the capacity on your vehicle. Remember to stay under the rating of the lowest rated component... view full answer...
If the Reese Above-Bed Gooseneck Hitch, # RP58079, will fit in the rails that you currently have installed on your 2005 Ford F-350, then you will not need any additional parts.
The mounting tabs on this hitch measure side to side 10 inches from center to center and front to back 21-15/16 inches center to center. You will want to measure the mounting holes in your rails to see if this hitch will fit.
This hitch is designed to fit standard fifth wheel base rails from Curt, Draw-Tite,... view full answer...
The safety chain loops that also act as handles are not pictured, but when installed, they will be to the sides of the narrowest part of the Reese Above-Bed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch, # RP58079. The u-shaped plates are actually spacers that fit between the installation rails, # RP30035, and the bed of your truck to give the system more strength and support. If you do not already have compatible rails, they are required for installation and are sold separately. view full answer...
