There are a variety of adapters on the market that let you tow a fifth-wheel trailer with a gooseneck hitch. You can use a coupler adapter that replaces the pin box on your fifth-wheel trailer and then attaches to the gooseneck hitch in your truck bed. But these adapters often require modifications to your trailer that can void the warranty. Another option would be using fifth-wheel rails that mount directly to your gooseneck hitch, usually by dropping into the hitch's ball hole. But to do this you have to make 2 separate purchases - the adapter plate that has the rails and a standard fifth-wheel hitch. With the Demco Recon, you get a heavy-duty fifth-wheel trailer hitch that mounts in your truck bed by connecting directly to your gooseneck hitch with the included components. No modifications are required to your truck or trailer. And no additional parts are required for the system to work.
The single-piece, strong wraparound jaw completely surrounds your trailer's king pin for 360 degrees of contact. This wraparound jaw provides a more secure connection than standard 2-piece jaws that close in on the king pin from the sides. The increased jaw-to-king-pin contact on the Recon hitch offers tighter tolerances around the king pin, which minimizes both rattle and chucking, for a smooth, quiet ride.
A 3/4" thick solid steel locking bar spans the area in front of the jaw. This bar provides an added barrier of protection against accidental disconnection so you can have peace of mind that your trailer is secure. The locking bar is attached to the jaw and to the spring-loaded handle. The bar automatically locks when the jaw closes around your king pin.
The double pivoting, cushioned head improves your towing experience dramatically by helping to reduce jarring and unwanted noise. Built-in pins allow the hitch head to pivot back and forth and side to side. And hookup is easy because the hitch head will automatically pivot to the proper angle when it comes into contact with your pin box.
Polyurethane dampeners help to cushion the movement from the pivoting head and to reduce towing noise. These dampeners are built into the head assembly to cushion the head's side-to-side pivoting.
This hitch is designed to attach to the 2-5/16" ball on your gooseneck hitch.
Assembling the hitch is quick and easy because of its lightweight, 2-piece design. First, attach the base to your gooseneck ball. A coupler pin is installed underneath the ball and the coupler is tightened to keep the Recon secure. Then simply slide the head assembly into the opening in the base. There are 3 different height settings to choose from - just slide the head up or down to find your desired height.
Once you have chosen your desired height, use the included pin to secure the head to the base. Finally, tighten the bolt to eliminate any movement and rattle.

I bought this hitch about a year ago. I was looking for one that would work on my flatbed pickup with a recessed gooseneck ball. The hitch works amazing and has little to no chucking or noise when towing. It’s fairly easy to install and remove from the truck because the head detaches from the base for installation and removal. The built quality seems very good and the finish has been holding up very well over the past year. I highly recommend this hitch if you have a recessed gooseneck ball and need to tow a fifth wheel with your truck. There are two different models. One for a flat bed pickup and one without flatbed so keep that in mind and make sure you find the correct one for your needs. I would definitely buy again and etrailer is always awesome to deal with.
Jenny N - 04/20/2022We have about 20000 miles towing with the hitch so far and have had one problem with our set up. The hitch assembly rotates or slips around, I drilled a hole in the outer frame of the hitch and my truck bed and installed a nut and bolt to keep it from rotating.The base was rotating on the flat bed of truck.
Heather A - 04/07/2022Put this setup on a 2021 pj flatbed with a recessed gooseneck (believe it's a b&m 30k kit) in it from the factory. The top of the ball is about 1/8"-3/16" lower than the deck. Took a few tries to make everything fit along with some modifications to the set screws. I had to trim off about 1/4" on the bottom set screw to clear my opening. Also I can't set the 5th wheel height to the lowest setting because the upright casting sticks out the bottom of the frame. One could trim that off as well but then you lose the hole for the highest setting. Gonna run in the middle setting and if I have to, I'll trim off the excess to make it sit lower. Bed is on a 2014 Ram 4500. Top of bed to ground with no load is 41.5" at the rear axle. Overall looks like it will work for what I'm doing.
The hitch itself is firm and sturdy but we had to modify it right out of the box. The bolts that hold the shaft in place were too long and did not fit in the opening of our truck bed. We also had to buy a new gooseneck ball because the ball was too low for the sleeve to reach all the way down the ball. So the ball we had to buy had a one inch tall shaft which made it just barely tall enough to work. As I mentioned, the hitch is great but the two modifications and hours of trying to figure it out and ordering new parts to make it work was a massive bummer. The two truck bed brands were Knapheide and EBY.
4 stars is yes because the base will not sit properly on the floor of the bed The 2 sets screws on the hitch would not clear not clear the recest Box wall head to remove the lower the lower one on the main assembly Other than that works great shipping Although it arrived quickly sooner than expected it looks like the UPS driver got out and threw it out on the road every chance he got poorly packaged . The head of the unit was boxed nicely however the base and the cast iron housing Was packaged poorly I am lucky to not be missing any parts
Overall I am very pleased with e trailer. Timely shipping, and first class service after the sale. Five Stars for e trailer. The four stars are for the product. Hitch is great. Exactly what I needed. Unfortunately Demco needs better quality control. Product came out of their packaging bent up and paint peeling off, and missing parts and paperwork. That’s why they get 4 stars. The Demco Recon hitch itself fully deserves 5 stars. Easy to install, and very rugged. Definitely be back to do business with e trailer.

I posted a video on My Ticktock account and got a million views in 3 days. People are asking where I got it. On my opinión it’s a great product I think it needs 4 bolts on each corner that can pull down on the bed and pull up on the 2”5/16” ball that way it’s less likely to turn
I installed this yesterday on my flatbed with recessed ball and moved our 41’ sierra 20 miles to our shop for service and the hitch works perfect! I couldn’t be more satisfied in this 21k hitch and only took 30 minutes from the time I opened the box until it was installed and ready to go! This hitch is a must for recessed ball flatbed trucks
So far so good... received within a few days of order being filled... have not had a chance to use it but it is installed... only thing I had wrong was the fact that the package was missing the nut for the bolt that goes above the ball on my bed.
First, I LUV IT! Now, if you have a gooseneck hitch in your truck, take care in which of these you get, there's the raised and recessed versions. The simplicity of this is one thing I like so much, as well as it's great cost point and heavy duty strength. Plus keep in mind, this style works exactly like the normal 5th wheel with relation to how it hooks to your RV, unlike the small adapters(blah!) you attach to the kingpin. This is the best option for gooseneck hitch owners to adapt to your 5th Wheel in my opinion. It is heavy, so make sure you're prepared for that with either a strong back or a 2nd strong person.

Does its job well. Haven't had a single issue. Easy to remove if we need the flatbed for an alternative reason. Definitely would purchase again.
Hitch seems decent could try to package better box was is very rough shape when I received it today
it is handy, only downside i have is that the hitch can still turn in the bed, and it rides on top of my safety chain pull up hooks. sometimes hard to get it unhooked.
