This shock-absorbing pin box works with your gooseneck hitch to give a smooth ride while you tow your fifth-wheel trailer. The all-in-1 box has no air bags to refill or small parts to replace. Manual latch allows for simple hookup. 3.5K pin weight.

  • Shock-absorbing design ensures a smooth, steady ride
    • Technology functions like a torsion axle to limit transfer of road shock from trailer to truck and vice versa

    • No airbags to maintain and fewer moving parts to repair or replace than with other shock-absorbing solutions

  • Pin weight scale is built in to help you balance your trailer
    • Meter lets you know if your load needs to be adjusted before you tow
  • Cross-shaped holes provide attachment points for safety chains

  • Simple, bolt-on installation
    • Mounts with existing bolts
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Designed to replace Lippert 1621 and 1621 HD 5th-wheel pin boxes
  • Towing capacity: 21,000 lbs
  • Pin weight capacity range: 1,500 lbs - 3,500 lbs
  • Ball size: 2-5/16"
  • 5-Year limited warranty

Notes:

  • In order for the pin box's shock absorption to work correctly, make sure your pin weight is within the pin weight range.
  • To calculate correct towing weight for Gen-Y hitches, use this formula: GVWR x 0.22 = TW.
  • Because the Gen-Y Hitch Executive is shorter than the Lippert 1621 or 1621 HD pin box, the clearance between your trailer and tow vehicle during turns might be reduced.

Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter

Say your truck has a gooseneck hitch for towing your horse trailer, but you want to go camping with your new fifth wheel. You could outfit your truck with a new fifth-wheel hitch that attaches to your existing gooseneck hitch, but that means having to move a heavy, bulky hitch into and out of your truck bed all the time.

You could also purchase an adapter that bolts onto your trailer's existing pin box. But adding a new component to your setup can keep your pin box from working how it was designed. King pin adapters can create a stiff ride and can even strain your fifth wheel's frame by adding too much height at the connection point.

A better option is to use this gooseneck-compatible pin box to easily tow your fifth-wheel trailer with your truck's gooseneck hitch. The box replaces your trailer's existing pin box, which means it's designed to act as a part of your trailer instead of simply bolting over your king pin like an adapter does.

Built-In Shock Absorption for a Smooth Ride

Executive torsion

If you've ever towed a fifth-wheel trailer before, you're no stranger to road shock. Driving over uneven terrain can result in a rigid, bumpy ride. And uncomfortable fore-and-aft chucking can occur when you're starting and stopping. When all of the motions combine, the road shock can even potentially damage your truck or trailer.

This Gen-Y Hitch torsion pin box is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the box, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.

Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y pin box adapter. This allows for movement between the box, which attaches to your trailer, and the coupler tube, which connects to the gooseneck hitch ball in your truck bed. When your trailer bounces or jerks, the coupler tube will move accordingly.

torsion diagram

Built into the Gen-Y pin box are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the coupler end moves, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the coupler's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the rough shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.

Easily Check Your Vertical Load

pin weight scale

The vertical load, or pin weight, refers to the weight that a fully loaded trailer exerts downward on the hitch ball in the truck bed. Too little vertical load can cause trailer sway and too much can cause poor performance.

This Gen-Y pin box has a built-in mechanical scale so that you can check to see if your vertical load is too high or too low. The highest arrow on the scale indicates your maximum vertical load (3,500 lbs). The lowest arrow indicates no vertical load (0 lbs). For the built-in shock absorption to function effectively, the scale's white indicator marker should be between the highest arrow and the middle arrow when you hook up your trailer to tow.

I’m really happy with my purchase. Please take into account that this hitch is 2-3” shorter than the kingpin box. They do make an extended version. I had to buy a 4” ball offset, as I couldn’t open my tailgate Without hitting the camper. I love having the open bed space, it seems to be smoother and it’s less noisy then the pin box.

by:

Installation was very straight forward, it is heavy so you need something to prop it up for you while you get at least one bolt started in each side. I used the bucket on my tractor to hold it up. I only have one tow in so far for about 50 miles so still early to review. It certainly works as advertised for taking out a lot of the trailer feedback on rough roads, uneven transitions, etc. It is an improvement in ride quality and makes towing a big fifth wheel more comfortable. Necessary? Probably not but it does spoil you a little bit. One problem though that Gen-Y is working on fixing is the ball to pinbox is a little bit longer and I did hit the bed cap at about 60 deg of turn while backing in at an angle. It cleared when I tested it in the flat driveway, but not by much. They are going to come up with a fix. I'm at 7 1/2" clearance from the overhang to the bed caps sitting flat. This is with a '18 Chev Silverado HD 8' bed and a '19 Momentum 351M

by:

Haven't got to use it since it took over a month to get it and I had to completely change up everything and borrow a hitch from my brother to make this trip possible. You also failed to send the safety chains I bought!!!!!

by:

Installation took 1 hour with 2 people. Made very well. Pulled trailer great and expect ride to get better with break in. I went with 3.5k and on lighter side of recommended king pin weight. Shipping was quick and had email notifications the whole way. Will use etrailer again

When ordering, I was told 7 - 10 days for delivery, it arrived in 3 days! I looked at the Gen-Y pin box for a couple minutes .... What the heck, this is straight forward. I grabbed a breaker bar and end wrench to loosen the bolts on the Lippert pin box on the 5th wheel. Then, installed the forks on my skid steer and picked up a small pallet, placed the pallet under the 5th wheel pin box and removed it in about 5 minutes.

The Gen-Y hitch is awkward heavy for one person at 65 yrs old. So built a 16" square wood framework out of 2x6 material, placed the Gen-Y pin box on a pallet, raised bolt hole end up to get the correct position/ angle (bolt hole end / top of frame flat), positioned the wood framework under pin box, screwed the wood framework to the pallet so it wouldn't slip. Aligned filler shims to the correct bolt hole pattern on trailer frame and Gen-Y pin box (marked them with felt pin). Raised pin box up, went right into position, slipped the shims into place, installed all the bolts, tightened/ torqued all the bolts, installed the safety chains and mounted the breakaway brake box ..... Done in just under 1 1/2 hrs, by myself.

I originally had an Andersen ultimate
Made
me nervous with cracking welds etc

Product came a day early and looks great. Ups could have handled it better. From the shape of the box it rolled it's way from Missouri. Excited to get it installed and get some miles on it.

The Gen-Y gooseneck has been excellent! I now have approximately 12k miles on mine and it rides very nicely with very limited chucking and handles rough roads very well. I’d highly recommend that you contact Gen-Y BEFORE ordering to ensure you get the correct load rating product. Gen-Y and Etrailer have provided excellent customer and tech support! This product definitely frees up your truck bed and does require a precise line up to hitch.

by:

I love this hitch I put it on my 35’ Astoria fifth wheel it pulls great and the shock absorbers help with a smooth ride.we took a ten day trip from Ga to Maine last September and had no problems with this hitch. I guess the only negative is that it’s not as easy as a regular fifth wheel hitch to hook up by yourself but after a few times you can line it up ok. The best thing is that no big hitch taking up space in my truck bed just a ball

by:

Makes life a lot easier l don’t have to remove my hitch from the bed of my truck to use it. Just flip the ball and there you go.
The gooseneck hitch actually pulls better than the 5th wheel hitch I had.
It is rather heavy so come up with a good plan for installing, I used the front end loader on my tractor which allowed me to do the install by myself.
Great product!!!

This product is a chucking ENHANCER, not a chucking dampener. Additionally, despite what you have read, my experience with GenY customer service has been terrible. GenY will not support their warranty program, they will try to tell you everything is OK, when the fact is, their product is faulty and does not function to GenY product literature statements “Built-In Suspension Creates Up to 90% Smoother Ride”.
I purchased the GenY executive hitch from eTrailer on 3/10/23, etrailer sent the wrong unit and to etrailer’s credit - they quickly took responsibility and replaced with the correct unit on 3/24/23. I installed on my DRV Elite Suites PS3 just in time to attend the SOITC rally at the Outer Banks on 4/13/23. When we left for this 750-mile one-way trip, the GenY load indicator was in the middle of the green zone, I measured the pin load at 5,200 pounds. Bedrail clearance was my reason for buying the GenY, it replaced a Trail Air on my DRV and a Reese 27,000-pound hitch on my 2022 F450. Bottom line, the GenY system provided no improvement in bedrail clearance, but did offer the ability to switch in different gooseneck balls to adjust for bedrail clearance.
GenY states that a 1,000-mile break in period is required before the GenY torsion system is fully effective. My experience was that at 750 miles the torsion system on the GenY had sagged to it lowest point with the load indicator in the unit outside of the green, this also resulted in losing nearly two inches of bedrail clearance. It looks like it has a metal-to-metal stop so that the lowest the indicator will go is to the white lines outside of the green. I called GenY from the RV park and was told that the unit would not sag further. I purchased a Curt gooseneck ball which was 2 inches higher than the Ford ball to regain bedrail clearance having to rapid ship it to the RV park.
Chucking became downright scary on the 750-trip home. As an example, chucking was induced every time my truck’s ten-speed transmission shifted up. Upon arrival home, I again contacted GenY customer service with a full expectation that GenY would replace the unit. Instead, here is their response: “I spoke with our QC Manager regarding your hitch. He said that you are in the correct unit and being at the top end of the green is normal after the break-in miles. As for the bedrail clearance he said that you would be able to lower the pin box down a set of bolts (with our pin boxes you are only required a minimum of 4 grade eight bolts per side) or use a B&W ball as they are roughly 1 1/2” taller.” This is unacceptable...
