  • King Pin Adapters
  • 18000 lbs GTW
  • Adapts Trailer
  • Gen-Y Hitch

This shock-absorbing pin box works with your gooseneck hitch to give a smooth ride while you tow your fifth-wheel trailer. The all-in-1 box has no air bags to refill or small parts to replace. Auto-latch allows for easy hookup. 2.5K pin weight.

Features:

  • 5th-Wheel-to-gooseneck adapter box lets you tow your 5th-wheel trailer with your gooseneck hitch
    • 5th-Wheel pin box replaces the factory pin box on your trailer
    • Coupler attaches to your truck's gooseneck hitch ball
  • Shock-absorbing design ensures a smooth, steady ride
    • Technology functions like a torsion axle to limit transfer of road shock from trailer to truck and vice versa
      • Reduces chucking and rough fore-and-aft motion
      • Limits bounce and jarring up-and-down motion
    • No airbags to maintain and fewer moving parts to repair or replace than with other shock-absorbing solutions
  • Self-latching lever automatically engages when hitch ball is in socket
  • Cable latch allows you to easily uncouple from outside of your truck bed
    • Included cable attaches to lever - just pull on it to disengage the latch
  • Pin weight scale is built in to help you balance your trailer
    • Meter lets you know if your load needs to be adjusted before you tow
  • Cross-shaped holes provide attachment points for safety chains
  • Filler shims insert between pin box and your trailer's wings
  • Heavy-duty steel construction
  • Powder coat finish resists wear and corrosion
  • Simple, bolt-on installation
    • Mounts with existing bolts
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Designed to replace Lippert 1116 and 1716 5th-wheel pin boxes
  • Towing capacity: 18,000 lbs
  • Pin weight capacity range: 1,000 lbs - 2,500 lbs
  • Ball size: 2-5/16"
  • 5-Year limited warranty

Notes:

  • In order for the pin box's shock absorption to work correctly, make sure your pin weight is within the pin weight range.
  • Because the Gen-Y Hitch Executive is shorter than the Lippert 1716 pin box, the clearance between your trailer and tow vehicle during turns might be reduced.

  • Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter

Say your truck has a gooseneck hitch for towing your horse trailer, but you want to go camping with your new fifth wheel. You could outfit your truck with a new fifth-wheel hitch that attaches to your existing gooseneck hitch, but that means having to move a heavy, bulky hitch into and out of your truck bed all the time.

You could also purchase an adapter that bolts onto your trailer's existing pin box. But adding a new component to your setup can keep your pin box from working how it was designed. King pin adapters can create a stiff ride and can even strain your fifth wheel's frame by adding too much height at the connection point.

A better option is to use this gooseneck-compatible pin box to easily tow your fifth-wheel trailer with your truck's gooseneck hitch. The box replaces your trailer's existing pin box, which means it's designed to act as a part of your trailer instead of simply bolting over your king pin like an adapter does.

Built-In Shock Absorption for a Smooth Ride

    Executive torsion with cable

If you've ever towed a fifth-wheel trailer before, you're no stranger to road shock. Driving over uneven terrain can result in a rigid, bumpy ride. And uncomfortable fore-and-aft chucking can occur when you're starting and stopping. When all of the motions combine, the road shock can even potentially damage your truck or trailer.

This Gen-Y Hitch torsion pin box is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the box, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.

Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y pin box adapter. This allows for movement between the box, which attaches to your trailer, and the coupler tube, which connects to the gooseneck hitch ball in your truck bed. When your trailer bounces or jerks, the coupler tube will move accordingly.

    torsion diagram

Built into the Gen-Y pin box are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the coupler end moves, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the coupler's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the rough shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.

    Easy to Couple and Uncouple

    auto latch and cable

The Gen-Y pin box adapter makes hooking up your trailer easy thanks to its automatic latch. When your hitch ball moves into the coupler tube, the latch instantly engages. No need to manually close the socket once the coupler is on the ball.

Disconnecting is fast and easy too. This normally requires that you crawl into your truck bed to access and release the latch. But the Gen-Y adapter box can be disconnected from outside of your truck bed. The included cable attaches to the latch on the coupler's base. Just run the cable up your trailer frame and secure it in a convenient place. When you're ready to disengage the coupler, simply pull the cable to release the ball from the socket. No need to climb into your truck bed.

    Easily Check Your Vertical Load

    tongue weight scale

The vertical load, or pin weight, refers to the weight that a fully loaded trailer exerts downward on the hitch ball in the truck bed. Too little vertical load can cause trailer sway and too much can cause poor performance.

This Gen-Y pin box has a built-in mechanical scale so that you can check to see if your vertical load is too high or too low. The highest arrow on the scale indicates your maximum vertical load (2,500 lbs). The lowest arrow indicates no vertical load (0 lbs). For the built-in shock absorption to function effectively, the scale's white indicator marker should be between the highest arrow and the middle arrow when you hook up your trailer to tow.

Video Transcript for Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box Review

Hello, everybody. Clayton here at etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna be taking a look at the Gen-Y fifth wheel pin box to gooseneck adapter with the auto latch. Now right off the bat, this is gonna be an great upgrade from your standard fifth wheel setup. Personally, I like the way goosenecks tow a lot better. You get a lot more turning radius and I just prefer the way they track behind your truck.

Now there's nothing wrong with a fifth wheel setup, but this is definitely gonna make life a lot easier. Our pin box is gonna replace our factory one. So it's gonna be nice if it just becomes part of your trailer. And one thing I like about this is gonna be the shock absorbers. It's gonna help everything ride a lot smoother.

Now, before we get a little bit more into detail about that, this is available in a few different weight capacities. We're looking at the 21,000 pound capacity today but it's also available in 25,000 pounds and 30,000 pounds. And you can find all those options here at etrailer.com. Our shock absorbers are gonna be right here on the front. You can see these areas here.

These are actually gonna go up and down whenever we hit bumps. So not only is it gonna make our ride a lot more comfortable, it's also gonna reduce the fatigue. A lot of times when we're pulling a big camper we just feel it kind of slamming us around, bringing the truck down. This is gonna make life a lot easier and a lot more comfortable, just 'cause it's gonna ride a whole lot smoother. Not only, that it's gonna help save our truck because our truck isn't gonna be getting bounced around and beaten down as much.

And one thing I really do like about this pin box is we are gonna have the auto latching feature. So basically whenever we hook up to our trailer our gooseneck ball is gonna go in here, click this lever and lock it in. We're not gonna have to actually manually put that pin in. Then whenever we're ready to disconnect, you simply come back here to your pull wire, pull this down, and you can see that lever come up off of the actual gooseneck ball. And all of the components at the bottom of our pin box are greasable, so that's gonna be really nice. We can see this zerk fitting here, to make sure that everything is working properly, not making a ton of noise. Another feature that's pretty cool is gonna be this built-in scale. As you can see now it's in the red at minimum just 'cause we're not hooked up to anything. But once we hook up to our truck you'll see this number come up and let us know where our tongue weight rating is. And another awesome feature of our pin box is it is gonna be maintenance free. A lot of our other pin boxes out there on the market have airbags or different things that you have to grease all the time or make sure they have air. This is gonna be something you simply just hook up to your truck. Not have to worry about it. Tow your camper around. You can unhook it and just leave it. Like I said, it's maintenance free. So that's gonna make life a lot easier. It's one less thing to worry about. Now, this is gonna be constructed out of a heavy duty steel. So you don't have to worry about it breaking down over time. It's gonna stay nice and strong. It also has a really nice gray powder coat finish to keep it looking nice as well. And it helps protect our investment from rust and corrosion. And probably the biggest upgrade for this is actually gonna be going from that fifth wheel to the gooseneck like I said. In the bed of our truck, we're not gonna have to have that giant fifth wheel hitch. We'll just have our gooseneck ball. It's gonna be a lot easier to work around. A lot of times we can take that ball out or flip it over, depending on your hitch, we still have full bed access. It is very hard to take out those big fifth wheel hitches. Not only because they're heavy, but they're also bulky and awkward to move around. Now we can go ahead and hook up and take it out for our road test. And as you can see with our trailer hooked up and our scale working we are right in the green, so we know we're good. We're not going over or not under our vertical load limit. With everything hooked up, we now want to put our safety chains on. I do want to mention these do not come with the kit, but you can find some here at etrailer. Let's take our chains. And then loop them in to our fix. It really does perform pretty well. Not only does it look good, but I also like the way it just makes our actual experience in the cab much nicer. It's a lot less to worry about. Just makes it a lot easier to live with and to use every day. I know a lot of times when you're towing your big camper, it is gonna be a long trip. So everything you can do to make your ride a little bit more comfortable is gonna be well worth it. And as you can see when we're hitting our test course you can see our actual torsion working. So that's gonna be what makes this hitch so nice. Like I said, it's gonna be very comfortable. You can actually see that go up and down whenever we hit those bumps and that's what's gonna make it a lot more comfortable, because it's not kicking around our truck as hard. And it's also gonna save our camper. And whenever you're ready to disconnect, just pull your latch and then lift up your jacks. Normally we'd have to jump up here to undo your latch. But in this case, we just pull our cable, and extend our jacks. It's gonna make life a lot easier. Getting our new pin box installed is gonna be pretty simple. Now all we're gonna do is take the hardware out of our old one. If we come up to our actual pin box here, you'll see the bolts in the side plates on our camper. There's gonna be four of them on this model. But if yours does have five on each side you want to make sure to put the same amount of hardware back in. So we're just gonna come remove these, get our old pin box out of the way. Now I suggest having a couple friends with you because the old pin box more often than not is gonna be very heavy. So it's better to have extra hands. Now, if you do mess up your hardware, or you just want to get new hardware, Gen-Y does sell the new hardware kits and you can find that here at etrailer. As you can see, there are quite a few different holes in the side of our hitch. And I just want to make sure that you line these up with the holes in your side plates on your camper. Now you might have to move this up a little bit more due to the height difference between this and your standard pin box. You do want at least six inches of clearance between your bed rails and the front of your camper. And as you can see, this is where our factory pin box was, and with our new Gen-Y, we did have to move it up one hole. Now it is gonna be dependent on your model. Like I said, you want to make sure to put back in the same amount of hardware that you take out. And once you get your new hitch into position you want to make sure to torque them down. The torque specs can be found on your instructions. In conclusion, this is gonna be a great upgrade for your camper. Like I said, towing with a gooseneck is gonna be a lot nicer. Tracks really good behind your truck, you get a little bit more turning radius, and you don't have to worry about having that big hitch in the bed of your truck whenever you're not towing. Now the torsion flex is gonna be an awesome upgrade over your standard pin box, One, because there's no maintenance, two, it's a lot more comfortable, and three, it's gonna save the life of your truck and your camper. But most importantly, it's gonna keep you from getting as fatigued behind the wheel. 'Cause on those long trips, anything you can do to make it a little bit easier is well worth your time. That's gonna do it for our look at the Gen-Y executive fifth wheel pin box to gooseneck with the auto latch..

Review from a similar Executive King Pin in Gooseneck and Fifth Wheel Adapters

Installation was very straight forward, it is heavy so you need something to prop it up for you while you get at least one bolt started in each side. I used the bucket on my tractor to hold it up. I only have one tow in so far for about 50 miles so still early to review. It certainly works as advertised for taking out a lot of the trailer feedback on rough roads, uneven transitions, etc. It is an improvement in ride quality and makes towing a big fifth wheel more comfortable. Necessary? Probably not but it does spoil you a little bit. One problem though that Gen-Y is working on fixing is the ball to pinbox is a little bit longer and I did hit the bed cap at about 60 deg of turn while backing in at an angle. It cleared when I tested it in the flat driveway, but not by much. They are going to come up with a fix. I'm at 7 1/2" clearance from the overhang to the bed caps sitting flat. This is with a '18 Chev Silverado HD 8' bed and a '19 Momentum 351M

Review from a similar Executive King Pin in Gooseneck and Fifth Wheel Adapters

I put a flatbed on my truck so I could load my side by side and go wherever we want. This meant I had to figure out a new way to pull my toyhauler. I had a ford factory fifth wheel prep package with the reese hitch. With the flatbed I cant use this hitch anymore. I was planning to use the Anderson ultimate fifthwheel hitch but would have to change the pin box on my toyhauler as well since it was a flexair and Anderson says not to use a pin box that pivots. Sooo......I started searching for a new pin box and came across this hitch. This solved all my problems! Don't need an Anderson hitch as this pin box will attach to the ball on my flatbed. I called and talked with Chrissy who was super helpful. I ordered the pin box and it arrived yesterday. With some help I got it installed in less than an hour. (2 or 3 person job). It looks great and I'm excited to test it out. Fast shipping and great packaging. Thanks etrailer.com!
