      • Limits bounce and jarring up-and-down motion
    • No airbags to maintain and fewer moving parts to repair or replace than with other shock-absorbing solutions
  • Self-latching lever automatically engages when hitch ball is in socket
  • Cable latch allows you to easily uncouple from outside of your truck bed
    • Included cable attaches to lever - just pull on it to disengage the latch

Specs:

  • Designed to replace Lippert 1621 and 1621 HD 5th-wheel pin boxes
  • Towing capacity: 25,000 lbs
  • Pin weight capacity range: 2,000 lbs - 4,500 lbs
  • Ball size: 2-5/16"
  • 5-Year limited warranty

Notes:

  • In order for the pin box's shock absorption to work correctly, make sure your pin weight is within the pin weight range.
  • To calculate correct towing weight for Gen-Y hitches, use this formula: GVWR x 0.22 = TW.
  • Because the Gen-Y Hitch Executive is shorter than the Lippert 1621 or 1621 HD pin box, the clearance between your trailer and tow vehicle during turns might be reduced.

Fifth Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter

Say your truck has a gooseneck hitch for towing your horse trailer, but you want to go camping with your new fifth wheel. You could outfit your truck with a new fifth-wheel hitch that attaches to your existing gooseneck hitch, but that means having to move a heavy, bulky hitch into and out of your truck bed all the time.

You could also purchase an adapter that bolts onto your trailer's existing pin box. But adding a new component to your setup can keep your pin box from working how it was designed. King pin adapters can create a stiff ride and can even strain your fifth wheel's frame by adding too much height at the connection point.

A better option is to use this gooseneck-compatible pin box to easily tow your fifth-wheel trailer with your truck's gooseneck hitch. The box replaces your trailer's existing pin box, which means it's designed to act as a part of your trailer instead of simply bolting over your king pin like an adapter does.

Built-In Shock Absorption for a Smooth Ride

Executive torsion with cable

If you've ever towed a fifth-wheel trailer before, you're no stranger to road shock. Driving over uneven terrain can result in a rigid, bumpy ride. And uncomfortable fore-and-aft chucking can occur when you're starting and stopping. When all of the motions combine, the road shock can even potentially damage your truck or trailer.

This Gen-Y Hitch torsion pin box is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the box, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.

Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y pin box adapter. This allows for movement between the box, which attaches to your trailer, and the coupler tube, which connects to the gooseneck hitch ball in your truck bed. When your trailer bounces or jerks, the coupler tube will move accordingly.

torsion diagram

Built into the Gen-Y pin box are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the coupler end moves, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the coupler's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the rough shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.

Easy to Couple and Uncouple

auto latch and cable

The Gen-Y pin box adapter makes hooking up your trailer easy thanks to its automatic latch. When your hitch ball moves into the coupler tube, the latch instantly engages. No need to manually close the socket once the coupler is on the ball.

Disconnecting is fast and easy too. This normally requires that you crawl into your truck bed to access and release the latch. But the Gen-Y adapter box can be disconnected from outside of your truck bed. The included cable attaches to the latch on the coupler's base. Just run the cable up your trailer frame and secure it in a convenient place. When you're ready to disengage the coupler, simply pull the cable to release the ball from the socket. No need to climb into your truck bed.

Easily Check Your Vertical Load

scale

The vertical load, or pin weight, refers to the weight that a fully loaded trailer exerts downward on the hitch ball in the truck bed. Too little vertical load can cause trailer sway and too much can cause poor performance.

This Gen-Y pin box has a built-in scale so that you can check to see if your vertical load is too high or too low. The top red mark on the scale indicates your maximum vertical load (4,500 lbs). The bottom red mark indicates no vertical load (0 lbs). For the built-in shock absorption to function effectively, the scale's white indicator marker should be within the green section when you hook up your trailer to tow.

This was better than I expected. Truck felt smoother going down the road with our new 5th wheel than with our previous rig with a standard 5th wheel hitch even though the new rig was about 3.5k lbs heavier. I believed the claims of a smoother ride because of the torsion action but I was really amazed at how much better it was. The one I was skeptical about was the improved mileage claim. After a 7 week long RV trip putting over 4K towing miles with a heavier, (and slightly taller trailer), I was averaging the same, even slightly better, as with my previous rig with the same tow vehicle. This setup also freed up the bed of my truck tremendously. It also lowered my pin weight/payload number by about 70lbs as compared with the original Pinbox and 5th wheel hitch I had. Great product.

The hitch just arrived. Shipping was fast and it was in perfect condition. I'll be doing the install on my Momentum m-class 381m later this week and then taking it on a short weekend trip. I'll update my review after all this is done.

Installation took 1 hour with 2 people. Made very well. Pulled trailer great and expect ride to get better with break in. I went with 3.5k and on lighter side of recommended king pin weight. Shipping was quick and had email notifications the whole way. Will use etrailer again

Man,this thing is GREAT! It was 1 day late on delivery, but other than that, it bolted right up using the existing holes, NO DRILLING! I was THRILLED! It works as advertised, the powder coat paint is awesome, the auto latch works flawlessly. I am very pleased I would recommend anyone wanting to switch a 5th wheel kingpin to a gooseneck to use Gen-Y. They got their act together!

Review from a similar Executive King Pin in Gooseneck and Fifth Wheel Adapters

If you have a short bed truck do not buy this gooseneck. At first it seem fine but unless it’s a long bed it’s shorter than you think. If you go up a small incline sideways so the rear of your RV will not scrape it will give enough to crush the side of your truck. I thought the gooseneck would give me a little more length or space and it did not it was actually shorter only in a long bed truck would you get better space

Comments
It is possible that you could use this adapter with a 6.5 foot bed however there would be measuring that would be done and possibly a different set up in your bed. You would need a gooseneck system that would allow you to use an offset bed that would give you more room. You would also want to use the formula found in the ask the experts answer that I have linked below.

The gen-y hitch is awesome. Very glad I switched from 5th wheel to gooseneck. Love having the extra space and with the removal of the puck ball I have a full open bed. The gen-y torsion system makes for a smooth ride

Review from a similar Executive King Pin in Gooseneck and Fifth Wheel Adapters

Quick, easy install. And this thing took the fifth wheel amazingly. My first trip was from Tulsa to Memphis. Most of the ride was 70 cruise control and there were quite a few times I saw the fifth wheel bouncing around in the back, but hardly felt it in the truck. I have a 2019 F350 DRW. The shipping was quick, I bought on a Sunday and had by Wednesday. The install was fairly easy with two people. Just don't forget to retorque the pin box bolts after a few hundred miles. No regrets purchasing this thing.

Installation was very straight forward, it is heavy so you need something to prop it up for you while you get at least one bolt started in each side. I used the bucket on my tractor to hold it up. I only have one tow in so far for about 50 miles so still early to review. It certainly works as advertised for taking out a lot of the trailer feedback on rough roads, uneven transitions, etc. It is an improvement in ride quality and makes towing a big fifth wheel more comfortable. Necessary? Probably not but it does spoil you a little bit. One problem though that Gen-Y is working on fixing is the ball to pinbox is a little bit longer and I did hit the bed cap at about 60 deg of turn while backing in at an angle. It cleared when I tested it in the flat driveway, but not by much. They are going to come up with a fix. I'm at 7 1/2" clearance from the overhang to the bed caps sitting flat. This is with a '18 Chev Silverado HD 8' bed and a '19 Momentum 351M

Review from a similar Executive King Pin in Gooseneck and Fifth Wheel Adapters

I put a flatbed on my truck so I could load my side by side and go wherever we want. This meant I had to figure out a new way to pull my toyhauler. I had a ford factory fifth wheel prep package with the reese hitch. With the flatbed I cant use this hitch anymore. I was planning to use the Anderson ultimate fifthwheel hitch but would have to change the pin box on my toyhauler as well since it was a flexair and Anderson says not to use a pin box that pivots. Sooo......I started searching for a new pin box and came across this hitch. This solved all my problems! Don't need an Anderson hitch as this pin box will attach to the ball on my flatbed. I called and talked with Chrissy who was super helpful. I ordered the pin box and it arrived yesterday. With some help I got it installed in less than an hour. (2 or 3 person job). It looks great and I'm excited to test it out. Fast shipping and great packaging. Thanks etrailer.com!

  • Can Gen-Y Executive 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Adapter be Used with Short Bed Truck
You can use fifth wheel to gooseneck adapters like the Gen-Y Executive part # GY38FR with short bed trucks but it really comes down to the nose of the trailer to determine if there will be turning clearance issues. You will want to go with the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box item # GY38FR. It has a pin weight capacity range of 2,000 lbs - 4,500 lbs. There is a built in pin weight scale to help you balance your trailer when you load up your cargo and UTVs. The meter lets you know if your load needs to be adjusted before you tow. This...

  • Gen-Y Shock Absorbing Pin Box For 2018 Heartland Fuel 352 Toy Hauler
It appears that your 2018 Heartland Fuel 352 uses a standard 1621 pin box. You will want to confirm this by either the sticker on the pin box or the bolt hole measurements for the pin box. If you do not have a sticker the bolt holes are going to be 7-7/8" on center from the front holes to the center of the back holes. The vertical holes will have a 2" on center separation. The Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY38FR is the one I recommend for your Fuel with...

  • How to Find Which Gooseneck Pin Box Fits 2020 Keystone Fuzion 373
Assuming you have a Lippert 1621 or 1621 HD pin box on your 2020 Keystone Fuzion 373 I would choose the Gen-Y Hitch Shock Absorbing 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Pin Box # GY38FR over the # 325-GH-8045. With that pin weight you might go over the 3,500 lbs for the # 325-GH-8045 but you will not have a problem using the # GY38FR with a pin weight capacity range of 2,000 lbs - 4,500 lbs. Keep in mind, this is shorter than the 1621/1621 HD pin box so the clearance between your trailer and tow vehicle...

You will need the Gen-Y Executive 5th Wheel to Gooseneck Safety Chain # GY49GR since you will be using a ball connection. • Recommended Gooseneck Pin Box To Replace Lippert 1621 On 5th Wheel Trailer
Thank you for the picture! I reached out to my contact at Lippert and based on the serial number you provided I was able to confirm that your trailer has a 1621 pin box with an 18000lb rating. For a gooseneck pin box that will fit you will need either the Reese Goose Box - 20000lb # RP94720 or the Gen-Y 25000lb # GY38FR. Between these two options I recommend the Gen-Y # GY38FR due to it having a built in shock absorber feature that will give you a smoother ride, but also due to it having...
