Say your truck has a gooseneck hitch for towing your horse trailer, but you want to go camping with your new fifth wheel. You could outfit your truck with a new fifth-wheel hitch that attaches to your existing gooseneck hitch, but that means having to move a heavy, bulky hitch into and out of your truck bed all the time.
You could also purchase an adapter that bolts onto your trailer's existing pin box. But adding a new component to your setup can keep your pin box from working how it was designed. King pin adapters can create a stiff ride and can even strain your fifth wheel's frame by adding too much height at the connection point.
A better option is to use this gooseneck-compatible pin box to easily tow your fifth-wheel trailer with your truck's gooseneck hitch. The box replaces your trailer's existing pin box, which means it's designed to act as a part of your trailer instead of simply bolting over your king pin like an adapter does.
If you've ever towed a fifth-wheel trailer before, you're no stranger to road shock. Driving over uneven terrain can result in a rigid, bumpy ride. And uncomfortable fore-and-aft chucking can occur when you're starting and stopping. When all of the motions combine, the road shock can even potentially damage your truck or trailer.
This Gen-Y Hitch torsion pin box is designed to absorb road shock at the connection point to create a safe, smooth ride. This is thanks to the internal construction of the box, which is similar to that of a torsion axle.
Pivot points are built into the Gen-Y pin box adapter. This allows for movement between the box, which attaches to your trailer, and the coupler tube, which connects to the gooseneck hitch ball in your truck bed. When your trailer bounces or jerks, the coupler tube will move accordingly.
Built into the Gen-Y pin box are tubes with inner bars that are surrounded by rubber cords. As the coupler end moves, these inner bars twist inside of the tubes, attempting to follow the coupler's motion. But the rubber cords prevent the bars from twisting too far. And as each bar turns, these cords compress to absorb the rough shock. This means that any shock experienced by your truck can be absorbed before it reaches your trailer, and the shock experienced by your trailer won't get transferred to your truck.
The Gen-Y pin box adapter makes hooking up your trailer easy thanks to its automatic latch. When your hitch ball moves into the coupler tube, the latch instantly engages. No need to manually close the socket once the coupler is on the ball.
Disconnecting is fast and easy too. This normally requires that you crawl into your truck bed to access and release the latch. But the Gen-Y adapter box can be disconnected from outside of your truck bed. The included cable attaches to the latch on the coupler's base. Just run the cable up your trailer frame and secure it in a convenient place. When you're ready to disengage the coupler, simply pull the cable to release the ball from the socket. No need to climb into your truck bed.
The vertical load, or pin weight, refers to the weight that a fully loaded trailer exerts downward on the hitch ball in the truck bed. Too little vertical load can cause trailer sway and too much can cause poor performance.
This Gen-Y pin box has a built-in mechanical scale so that you can check to see if your vertical load is too high or too low. The highest arrow on the scale indicates your maximum vertical load (5,500 lbs). The lowest arrow indicates no vertical load (0 lbs).

Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we'll take a look at the gen Y executive fifth wheel to gooseneck pin box with the auto latch coupler for the Lippert 1116 and 1716 pin boxes. Has a 25,000 pound towing capacity. Now this fifth wheel to gooseneck adapter pin box will let you tow your fifth wheel trailer using your gooseneck hitch. This fifth wheel pin box will replace the factory pin box that's on your trailer.
Now this one here is designed to replace the Lippert 1116 and 1716 fifth wheel pin boxes. Now for it to fit those pin boxes it does require these steel filler plates right there. They're shims because those two pin boxes are about a half inch wider than the normal pin boxes. So you do need to use the shim plates to get this to fit correctly. Those plates are included.
Now the coupler on this is what I'll attach to your truck's. Two and five 16 diameter gooseneck hitch ball. This does use a shock absorbing design which ensures a nice, smooth, steady ride. The technology functions like a torsion axle limits the transfer of any road shock from the trailer to the truck and vice versa. It does reduce chucking in rough four and a half motion.
Limits the bounce and any jarring up and down motion. And what's nice about this is there's no air bags to maintain and fewer moving parts to repair or replace than with some of the other shock absorbing solutions that are out there. This sort of does use this auto latch coupler with the cable release. It's pretty nice feature, basically what it does it makes hooking up your trailer lot easier. Basically what happens is when you put that over your gooseneck ball, that coupler to the latch will instantly engage it and you're ready to go.
So there's no need to have to manually close the socket once the couplers on the ball. And in disconnecting it is also very fast and easy. Normally it requires that you have to crawl into your truck bed to access and release that latch down there. But this adapter box can be disconnected from outside your truck bed. Using this included cable right here. This attaches to the latch you can see down there. And then when you're ready to disengage the coupler, all you have to do is just simply pull. You can see just by pulling this cable, it'll release the latch and the ball from the socket. So no need to have to climb up and down into your truck bed and all that outside your truck bed you can just pull this cable and it will release it. Now this gen Y pin box uses a built-in mechanical scale so that you can check to see if the vertical load is too high or too low that scale is right down here. And I am gonna zoom in here just so we can talk about it. Basically the vertical load or the pin weight refers to the weight that's fully loaded trailer will exert downward on the hitch ball in your truck bed. And what happens is too little vertical load can cause your trailer to sway too much can cause poor performance. So what you wanna do, looking at the scale you see this highest area the one at the top here this will indicate the maximum vertical load of 5,500 pounds. So if this white marker is lining up with the top red area that means you're at the maximum vertical load. If it's at the lowest like it is right now that means there are zero loads. What you'll wanna do is have a vertical load that is right in that green area, meaning right in the middle that is recommended for this built-in shock absorption to function effectively. So as long as that white marker once you hook it up is in that green area, you're good to go. Zoom back out mentioned these cross shaped slots right here these holes. And there's one on this side also. That is where you hook your safety chains to. Now safety chains are required to keep your fifth wheel attached to your tow vehicle. Those safety chains we do sell separately on our website. Now this is a heavy duty steel construction has a nice powder coat finish to it. It is a simple bolt on installation. It'll mount with the existing bolts. Now it is made in the USA and the towing capacity we mentioned on this is 25,000 pounds. And the pin weight capacity is 5,500 pounds. But that should do it for the review on the gen Y executive fifth wheel to gooseneck pin box with the auto latch coupler for the Lippert 1116 and 1716 pin boxes..
