Video Transcript for Performance Tool Carbon Fiber Digital Caliper Review

Today we'll be looking at the Performance Tool four inch carbon fiber digital caliper. Part number PTW80157. This allows you to read from 0 to 4 inches or 0 to 100 millimeters. It moves in 100ths of an inch or 1/10ths of a millimeter. It has a nice LED screen. You hit the on button and it's easy to read.

You can switch between millimeters and inches. Right now it's in inches and now it's in millimeters. Just by the touch of a button. We also have our zero capability so when we move it down our measurement tool, if we want to measure something and see the difference between another measurement, we can hit the zero button and it shows us the difference. This is a negative distance or a positive distance.

Take it back to zero and hit the zero button again so we can start back from zero inches or zero millimeters. This allows us to measure the outside diameter or the inside dimensions with the other side. Now we can show you in action. On our trailer here, we pulled off our seal. Usually it's stamped with the measurements on it, but this one has worn off over time. WE can use our tool to find the inner dimension of our race.

2.18 inches. If we need to figure out the outside diameter, that'll be 3.35 inches. Other measurements that we might need to know. Come to our shaft. We've got the bearings that sit on our shaft so we might need to know the diameter of our shaft.

We can come up, be 1.24 inches and that'll be for our inner or our outside bearing. If we need to figure out our other, the larger bearing, the inside bearing, we do the same thing. 1.74 inches. Now if we need to know the difference between the two, we come up we get the inside bearing, we hit our zero button, that zeros it out, and we can come to our outside bearing and we see there's almost a half inch difference between the two bearing sizes. Same works if you want to figure out the dimensions here for our race because that's where it sits. This is where our race sits. If I want to do difference in that. I'll take our meter, I'll measure the inside diameter of our race, I'll hit the zero button, and then I can come and measure the outside distance of our race and see if there's any difference at all. Which, there's not, but if there was it would show us. There would be a negative difference or if I measure something bigger, it would show us a positive difference. That's it for a look at the Performance Tool 4 inch carbon fiber digital caliper. Part number PTW80157.Speaker 2: You can find this and everything else right here at etrailer.com What's up man.

I have not used it yet but what I want to use it for it will work just fine then I can order the right parts for my trailer weather is not good right now to use it

by:

Works as described

by:

It works great and it's just plain fun. I bought it to measure bearing buddies and spindles. It works for that but it also has been great for measuring the diameter of carbon fiber tubes I'm using to build a sailboat mast and spars.

It gives instant metric to inch conversions - just push the in/mm button and the measurement in the display converts.

I've used it at least a couple of hundred times and it's still on the original battery.

Pro tip: Close it all the way before you turn it on.

I have always wanted a digital caliper now I have one. I have always relied on my older read out types since this is the one etrailer uses I will be able to take the same measurements they do . My local bearing supplier has priced themselves out of the market so I use etrailer !

A very nice useful tool. First one I got had a malfunction and the company sent me another one right away

  • Replacement Hub Assemblies with 12 Inch Drum for Electric Brakes
The information you provided unfortunately doesn't give me enough info to help you get the correct hubs yet. What I need is either the bearing number printed on the face of the inner and outer bearing or the number on the races also printed on the face of the race, but often more difficult to read. The other option is to use a digital caliper like # PTW80157 and measuring the spindle diameters where the bearings ride as well as where the seal is. These measurements will also help me...

In order to know what bearings you need for your 1972 Airstream trailer, you will need to pull one of your trailer hubs and look at both the inner and outer bearing. The bearing number should be printed on the face of each bearing as well as the grease seal on the back. If you can get me those numbers, I can help you get the correct replacement bearings. If you are unable to get those bearing numbers, then you will need to use a digital caliper like # PTW80157 to get the inner and...

  • Bearing Numbers for Hub Replacement on 2005 Fleetwood Destiny Sea Pine
Unfortunately I can't find the bearing replacement information online, so to ensure you get the correct replacement you will need to pull one of the hubs. The hubs will have two bearings and on the face of each one there is a number. If you can get me the number on those bearings as well as the number on the grease seal on the backside of that hub, I can help you get the correct replacement. If you cannot get the bearing numbers, then you can measure the spindle using a digital caliper...

  • Measuring Spindle for Replacement Idler Hubs Compatible with Axle
All of our hubs have a 1.98 inch inner bore, but that doesn't necessarily mean we don't have something compatible with your axles. The inner race and bearings change things so that the hub fits the spindle measurements. To determine if we have a compatible fit, you can use a digital caliper like # PTW80157 to get the spindle measurement at the inner bearing, outer bearing, and grease seal locations. I've attached a photo to further assist.

I have attached a photo that shows the correct measurements that will need to be taken in order to find the replacement bearings for your 2004 Bandit Jet Ski Trailer. Bearing diameters are measured to the thousandth of an inch using a digital caliper like part # PTW80157. I will need the B, C, and D measurements from you. We don't have anything that meets your measurements and they just don't seem correct. I recommend using a digital caliper like # PTW80157 to very specifically measure the seal diameter on the spindle location. I've attached a photo to assist. Then you can remove the seal from the hub and measure the inside of the hub at the grease seal location to get the outer diameter needed. The precision is important because this keeps the bearings lubricated and in working order.

  • How to Pick Out Dust Cap Replacement for Trailer Hub
There are screw on dust cover caps but they are only seen typically with oil bath hubs. If your dust cap is falling off it might be that your current cap is too small and you need a slightly larger one. What I'd recommend you do is measure the hub bore where your current cap installs with a digital caliper part # PTW80157 and then check out the link I attached that has all of the caps we offer. Use the filters on the page to narrow down the results to find the correct size.

  • Do Transmission Cooling Lines Need to be Measured to Determine Size
To determine the correct size of the lines on your transmission cooler you will need to measure the inner diameter to ensure you get the correct fittings. For this I very strongly recommend using Digital Caliper # PTW80157 to ensure the correct reading. This will allow you to get the correct fittings for a transmission cooler if they are needed. I have added a link to a video review of the calipers for you to check out.
