Colin: Hey guys, Colin here at Etrailer. Today I'm going to take some time and show you guys this hitch pin from Gen Y. This is for 2-1/2 inch and three inch hitch receivers. This is going to be a direct replacement for your hitch pin. It's going to allow you to get matching pins for your hitch pin, as well as the pins that are on your Gen Y ball mount. But it isn't just limited to your Gen Y ball mount.
If you've got to take this out and maybe put a cargo carrier in, you can use it for that as well.As you can see, it's the exact same design as the pins that are for our ball mount. The difference being the pins for our ball mount are a little bit thicker in diameter. The one for our hitch pin is going to be 5/8 inches in diameter. There other one's going to be a little bit bigger so that it can fit your ball mount accessories for your Gen Y. And what's nice is that it does have the twisting hitch pin right there, the clips I should say, so that when we insert it, you can see it's good for 2-1/2 inch and three inch receivers.In my opinion, these clips are much easier to use.
So personally, I'd go with that over just the standard clips that come right off. We've all been there, where just is a little bit rusted and then you just feel like you have to just yank as hard as you can. And when you finally get it off your arm flies back with it. It's not really ideal, but the twisting action, it just makes it much easier to get it on and off.The pin itself is going to be a really sturdy steel construction. It's going to be just as strong as the pins that come on your Gen Y ball mount.
We'll go ahead and take the clip off real quick. Now it's also going to have a zinc coating that's going to help it resist rust and corrosion. And for usable space, so from the bottom edge of our hole down to the base of the head of our pin, we're going to have about four inches of usable length. The overall length is going to be 5-5/8 inch.So like I said, it's going to be good for your 2-1/2 inch and three inch hitch receivers. And as we talked about, we do have that 5/8 inch diameter.
Now I really liked the Gen Y made a pin for my hitch receiver so that it can get it matching, and looking better with all of my other pins for my Gen Y ball mount. Now something I do want to advise, is that if you plan on leaving your really nice Gen Y ball mounts in your hitch receiver for long periods of time, I'd recommend just going ahead and getting a locking pin.We have plenty of those available and plenty of different manufacturers of them here on our website. We have our own brand, the Etrailer brand. We also have Infinite Rule and other locking pins available. So check out our website if that's something of interested in. But personally, I don't like leaving my ball mount in my hitch receiver when I'm not using it. So I just take it out when I'm done and put it in my truck. And because I don't leave it unattended for long periods of time, I'm good to go with this hitch pin right here. I don't have to make that investment into a lock.Well, thank you all for watching and I hope this information helped you out. Great product. I needed the extra length. The pin and clip are excellent. No rust and holding up well for my boat, dump trailer and utility trailer. Good customer service. I would recommend etrailer any time.

I bought two of these hitch pins about a year ago for our 2021 F250 with OEM 2.5" hitch receiver. We pull a 39' 10,000 lbs. toy hauler and use the pins with a weigh safe true tow hitch. The pins have held up well and have not rusted. I like the quarter turn locking pin engagement or disengagement. I would recommend this product from etrailer.

The box was shipped with a heavy item in the bottom and 8 marker lights loose in the box with nothing to protect them, very unusual for etrailer, I’m surprised nothing was broken . I’m very satisfied otherwise with the service and speed of delivery.

The Gen-Y 4" hitch pin provides extra length when trying to put your hitch on your receiver. The knob end makes it easier to position for clip placement, sometimes the angle end is in the way and won't rotate enough. The hitch pin is very strong and durable, have used on a solid hitch with a 2 5/16" ball. No wear, continues to fit into hitch and receiver easily.

The pin looks great and is very functional in summer time conditions. Unfortunately the salt in the NY winter really rusted the pin much quicker than I anticipated. My truck is babied in the winter and not driven that much in the snow and wintry conditions so the fact that the pin rusted so quickly indicates that the coating is not very good for corrosive environments.

- Can Grade 8 Bolts on an Adjustable Trailer Coupler Be Replaced with Hitch PinsI spoke to my contact at Bulldog and they cannot recommend substituting the grade 8 bolts that came with the coupler for a set of hitch pins. This would void the warranty of the coupler and more than likely a few SAE requirements. If you choose to do so anyway then you would need a hitch pin with a 5/8" diameter and a usable span of at least 3-1/2" for which you can use part # 325-GH-099.
