I would like to have the actual distance from the weld joint to the hitch pin hole of 4 1/2". This unit is slightly less than that.

by:

This extended hitch receiver is heavy and well built. It appears it will be able to withstand the extra weight of a 1-Up double rack and 2 e-bikes.

by:

It works great,by moving the trailer back from the vehicle you can load longer items,so there are not hanging over the back of the trailer. It also helps in the backing of the trailer.
Thank You

Pulling a travel trailer with a pickup truck. This allows me to open the tailgate while connected and also gives more turning room.

Its been a year and a half and Im very pleased with the quality. Its heavy and solid and I feel safe hooking up the trailer to it.

by:

No more bikes rubbing against the the back of motorhome. Great product.

by:

Great product.

by:

Quality ball mount and ball. I'm suprised to find extended ball mounts
in 11", 13.5" and 16" sizes, so I can put down the tailgate on my pickup without detaching the trailer. Fast shipping (free) adds icing on the cake. They even sent a coupon for 5% off on my next order.

In that I'm into Kayak fishing, I often go off the beaten trail to find launch points. As a result I need to back my trailer into some very tight areas and I simply could not do so without my extender. The only reason I did not give this a 5 star, is because of the safety chains. I had to extend them and then Velcro them around the extender to prevent them from dragging the ground. It would be great if there were guides or mount points on the extender for the chains.

by:

Great shipping time. The hitch extension was processed very quickly after my order online was placed.

This extension will allow me to pull a 7000 GVW utility trailer using a weight distributing hitch, with my truck camper on the truck.

The 2" solid steel shank gives this extension the strength it needs to do the job right.

After lots of research this is the only one I found that would do the job and only reduce my truck hitch capacity by 1/3.

Now I will be able to tow the 8ft x 16ft enclosed utility trailer I have been wanting for hauling toys on some of our family camping adventures.

etrailer.com comes highly recommend by me.

by:

Ordered the hitch extender for my motorhome because my trailer had a short hitch and
the back of the motorhome would hit the front of the trailer. Installed the product and left the next morning with a race car and trailer in tow. Went approximately 250 miles and had no issues and the hitch extender. It worked perfectly.

by:

I had bought and returned 3 extenders made and sold by others prior to getting the Brophy 14" Extender. The Brophy is far more superior than the others. The solid shank is much longer than the others, and it extends into the hollow end by more than 2" than the others, which makes it more heavy duty than the other less expensive exterders. I placed this extender on the rear of a Sprinter RV to hold a 4 tray Kuat Bike Rack. With the superior quality of the Brophy, I'm now comfortable placing 4 high end bikes on the rack and it's SOLID.

by:

Quality product. Very well made. Delivery was fast. I'd order this product again.

by:

Heavy duty item. HEAVY item. The 2" section is solid steel. I bought this to move the hitch ball back to clear my camper. Item works as promised.

by:

This was the fastest I have ever received an item I ordered online , and the item was ten times more than I expected , the hitch receiver is made of good three eights thick tubeing and solid two inch thick stock material , the heavy duty extention will never ever wear out , great product and I will order from etrailer again and again , great job guys ,and American Made

by:

Does what it is advertised to do ... extend the location of the hitch ball.

The product came promptly and the price was competative. I'll continue to use etrailer as my source for trailer parts as I need them.

by:

I haven't hook up this yet.... I believe this will work well for the cargo carrier in order of me to open/close the rear SUV rear door...

by:

Perfect length for my Jeep since I have the back tire to deal with. Very heavy duty! Highly recommend for fellow Jeepers!

by:

This item was exactly what I wanted and arrived on time. etrailer always comes through when I need something associated with towing.

by:

The product arrived a head of suggested delivery. The extension was well built and works great

by:

Just what I expected.

by:

Loved the high quality of this hitch.

by:

Easy to navigate website, good selection of product and had the inventory to get my order shipped out immediately. Also they had great communication all the way from order placement to delivery. If i need anything else, i'll be back.

by:

Well built product look forward to putting it to use. Was shipped fast and excellent customer service.

by:

Solid steel in the smaller part makes it heavy and strong, I don't think this will ever break

  • Can Hitch Extender Be Used On 2007 Ford E-350 Van Towing A 2000 LB Boat
You will want to check out the hitch you have installed on your 2007 Ford E-350 Van to see what the towing weight capacity and tongue weight capacity your hitch is when considering a hitch adapter. Using a hitch adapter like the Brophy Hitch Extender, part # HE12, will reduce the towing and tongue weight capacity of your hitch by 50 percent. If your hitch is rated for more than 4,000 lbs, you should be fine using this adapter, but I would check the tongue weight and weight of the fully-loaded...

  • Hitch Extender Compatibility With 400 Pound Hitch Mounted BBQ Smoker On Ford F-150
A hitch extender like # HE12 will extend your hitch to allow you to lower your tail gate, however it will also cut the tongue weight of your hitch by 50%. You will want to check the hitch tongue weight rating on your F-150 to see if it can handle the weight. For some hitches you will be surpassing it already, and for others, you will be able to add the extension.

  • Using a Hitch Extender on a Toyota RAV4 when Towing a Dirt Bike
We strongly recommend not hauling any more than the lowest rated component of your system. You must also keep in mind that using an extender decreases the hitch tongue weight capacity by 50%. This would mean your hitch tongue weight capacity would be only 175 lbs. It would not be safe to carry more than 175 lbs with your hitch and extender. This set up will not work to safely haul your dirt bike. Your best bet is to find a carrier with a longer shank so no extender is required or find another...

  • Could a Hitch Extender be Used on a Chevy Silverado Towing a Pop Up Camper with Class V Hitch
The Hitch Extender # HE12 that you referenced has 350 lbs of tongue weight and 3,500 total trailer weight capacity. If the trailer you have when it is fully loaded with your dirt bike weighs less than those figures then yes the # HE12 should work well for you. Normally we remind people that hitch extenders cut the capacity of hitches in half, but since you have a Class V hitch on your Silverado and you are only towing a pop up the reduced capacity should not be an issue for you. I did...

  • Can A Hitch Extender Be Used When Towing A 3,000lb Utility Trailer
The Hitch Extender For 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver 14" Long # HE12 is going to reduce your F-250's trailer hitch capacity by 1/3 with a maximum GVWR capacity of 3,500lbs. This means that you would need to know the capacity of your F-250 and reduce it by 1/3. That being said the the overall capacity of the # HE12 is above the 3,000lb GVWR of your trailer so you'll be fine using it with your trailer.

  • Availability of 10 Inch Hitch Extender
I am sorry, but a 10 inch hitch extender is not currently available. We do have a 14 Inch Trailer Hitch Extender, part # HE12. Please note that using a hitch extender will lower the tongue weight capacity of the hitch maximum downward force that can be applied to the receiver by 50 percent. If your hitch currently has a 350 pound tongue weight capacity, using the extender will lower it by half to 175 pounds. This would mean that the weight of the bike rack as well as the bikes attached...

As you noted, using any hitch extender or adapter will have the negative side-effect of reducing the tongue weight capacity of your hitch. In your case your specified factory hitch rating will be cut in half by use of an extender. The hitches we offer for your Ram 1500 (please see link provided) include both Class III and Class IV types. These vary in their tongue weight and gross towing weight capacities and even if your trailer weight is within the reduced hitch capacity (if used with...

  • Hitch Extender Recommendation for Hummer H2 Needing Clearance for Trailer Towing
We offer several hitch extenders that could work for you. But you should note that any time you use a hitch extender you end up cutting the capacity of the hitch in half. The Hitch Extender # HE12 that you referenced would give you an additional 12 inches of length added to your hitch. You would need to measure your setup to determine if that would give you enough clearance. For a shorter extender you would want the part # HE06 that would give you an additional 7 inches of clearance.

To tow with the tailgate down on your 2015 Ram 1500, what you'll need is a hitch extender, and the best option is the Hitch Extender For 2" Trailer Hitch Receiver - 14" Long # HE12. This will give you plenty of room to put your tailgate down and tow 3,000 lbs.
