This was exactly what I needed to make my hitch work on a Grand Caravan. The adjustable hitch was too close to the bumper after installing the Curt receiver hitch.

You will want to keep in mind that using an extender will reduce the capacity of your hitch by half.

by:

This thing is an absolute beast! well made and solid, with an exceptional finish. Worked as advertised and cleared the spare tire on my Wrangler such that our bike rack could be installed correctly. An exceptional product!

by:

Heavy metal, fit current hitch well. Good extention for Thule bike rack.

by:

The shaft length of a standard insert for a receiver hitch was too short to allow towing a 96 gallon trash can because the trash can lid was wedged against the tailgate of the ATV. The hitch extender has added sufficient length that the lid hinge can be dropped onto the trailer ball without being wedged against the tailgate.

Still working as intended with no downtime or difficulties.. also useful as an easy tiedown point when transporting the atv on a flatbed trailer.

by:

The hitch extension is heavy duty and I’m extremely happy with the quality. Service was superb and received the product in 2 days. Happy, happy, happy. Before and after photos are included.

I just wanted to provide you with a heads-up that using an extender like the # C45791 will reduce the capacity of your receiver hitch by 50 percent, as mentioned on the product page.

by:

Great. Extended my hitch just enough to keep my truck bumper from hitting my v-nose trailer. It greatly reduces the weight ratio, but length works out great.

Actually I bought a superduty and took extender out. Went with new B&W hitch on new truck. But the extender worked great on the f150

by:

I purchased this extension to use with my front end Curt Class 3 receiver hitch. This setup was installed for use of my Warn Wench that is installed in a portable receiver cradle that I use on either the front or rear of my truck. I chose this extension because of the solid shank that made it stronger than most other I shopped. As all extensions reduce the hitch weight rating, this one provided the least amount of reduction. I am very happy with my purchase and it works as advertised.

by:

top quality, does rattle if no clamp installed which I got here also. I needed this as our bike would hit the back of the RV with out it.

by:

Great product, excellent website, very user friendly (the "how to" videos were especially helpful in making sure the product I was ordering was the right one), highly responsive customer relations department. The hitch extender worked correctly the first time, and fits perfectly with my new Thule bike rack (see photos). I highly recommend eTrailer!

by:

Waited to answer, pkg arrived empty, called etrailer to advise, you shipped replacement right away and it has arrived. Thank you so much

by:

super fast shipping and worked perfect as described this was for my personal lowered c-10 1970 step side I wanted my hitch hidden behind the lic plate and was having some clearance issues with the plate as it had to flip up not down to clear my hitch We use the m a,lot at work for hitches trailer parts ect with supply chain issues they take the time to call you and offer other solutions if not in stock for your on online orders excellent customer service

by:

Received the 8” extension and it does exactly what I needed it to do. Matches up nicely with the Curt hitch on my SUV. Now I need not worry about how closely my trailers come to the rear end. Fast delivery and great support.

by:

I got this for my side by side as the receiver was mounted too far underneath the unit to be practical. This adapter moved it out to just the right spot. I use my SxS to move my trailers around my property mostly, & it works great.

by:

Put a receiver underneath my travel trailer and I needed to Ring the receiver out 8 inches from underneath the trailer and it fit perfect and it’s heavy duty And with the anti-rattle device I got from etrailer it works perfect.

by:

Both products excellent.

by:

Didn't work for my jeep because of the 35 inch tire attached to the tailgate.

by:

Well made and finished. It was exactly what I needed. The product was delivered earlier than promised. I like doing business with eTrailer.

by:

This extender worked perfectly. It is the perfect length to clear the spare tire on my Jeep. I haven’t noticed any problems with the additional tongue weight that this supposedly adds. It’s a better solution than removing my spare tire. I’m pulling a 17.5 foot bass boat.

by:

Works well, allows for oversized spare tire on the back of the Jeep to clear the teardrop trailer tongue jack.

*** Packaging was horrible. Placed in a cardboard box w/ no packing material, box was destroyed on arrival, and damaged / chipped paint. If you are going to charge us for shipping at least package the product so it will not be destroyed in normal shipping ***

by:

Need it to extend a bicycle rack out from the rear of our camper van so the handle bars don't bump the rear of the van. Fit up very nicely!!

by:

I'm sure the product was good as etrailer is always excellent. But when we got back two of the pieces were in the box but the curt hitch extender was not. The box had a hole in it and was tapped over. Who knows what happened.

Needed this to extend beyond a bumper mounted box on my van. Very sturdy, it arrived much faster than expected, fits perfectly and does exactly what I need it to do.

  • Using a Hitch Extender When Towing Small John Boat
So here's the deal with hitch extenders. Using an extender like the # C45791 will lower the hitch tongue weight capacity (maximum allowable weight bearing down on the hitch) by half, because the extender moves the load rearward by 8 inches which increases the leverage placed on the hitch and its attachment points to the vehicle. Your hitch will have an ID sticker on it that will list its tongue weight capacity. Divide that by 2, and you'll have the tongue weight capacity not to exceed when...

  • Recommended Extra-Long Ball Mounts to Provide Better Clearance Between Truck and Trailer
A hitch extender like Curt # C45791 which fits 2-inch hitches will give you the 8-inch of additional trailer-to-truck clearance you want but at the heavy cost of taking away half of your hitch's towing capacity. All hitch adapters/extenders have this unfortunate side-effect. This occurs due to the increased leverage on the hitch tube from the extension. A better solution is to use an extra-extra-long ball mount and no adapter. You can see such items on the linked page.

  • Measurement From Center Pin Hole to Shank of Curt Hitch Extender C45791
I believe I know the measurement you are referring to, which is just from the center of the pin hole of the extension back to the weld where the shank portion begins of the Curt Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers # C45791. That measurement, from pin hole to shank, is 5 inches. I have added links to video reviews for you to check out as well of this extender.

  • Which 8 inch Hitch Extender has Highest Tongue Weight Capacity
The three brands you mentioned all do make 8 inch hitch extensions. The Curt is the winner in terms of capacity though as it has a 350 lb tongue weight rating. That part number is # C45791. You should note that the use of these cuts the capacity of the hitch they are installed in by 50 percent.

  • Recommendation For Hitch Extender To Carry Thule Apex Bike Rack With 2018 Jeep Rubicon JL
Before I can recommend a hitch extension, I need to find out the actual extension needed. You will need to measure from the hitch pin hole to the rear edge of your spare tire to see how much length is needed for clearance of your 2018 Jeep JL Wrangler Unlimited. You will then need to determine the clearance needed by your bike rack by measuring the distance from center of hitch pin hole to the closest part of the bike rack. The difference is the extension size that you need (see article)....

  • Can Hitch Extender Be Used with Small Trailer Towing Lawn Equipment
The deal with hitch extenders is that they cut the capacity of the hitch they are installed in by 50 percent due to the added length and leverage. If your tow vehicle has twice the towing capacity as what your trailer will weigh this adapter part # C45791 would work well. This adapter by itself has a capacity of 3,500 lbs so the adapter would easily work on a 2,500-3,000 lb trailer.

  • Using a Hitch Extender for a Cargo Carrier on a 2015 Roadtrek
Technically speaking, a hitch extender like the Curt part # C45791 will fit. However, using an extender lowers your hitche's tongue weight by 50 percent so you will be limited on how much weight you carry. In addition to this, accessories on the back of an RV experience a lot more movement and therefore stress than normal. So not only will your weight capacity be lowered but you're also are going to experience a lot of movement on the hitch. So I don't recommend using an extender for...

  • Effect on Hitch Tongue Weight Capacity from Use of Hitch Extension
You are correct that increasing the distance between the hitch receiver and the actual load on it will also increase the leverage applied to the hitch. And this DOES indeed reduce the hitch's rated capacity. Hitch extensions, even fairly short ones like the 8-inch Curt # C45791, will cost you HALF of the hitch's rated tongue weight capacity. The physics of using adapters is more complicated than just the increased distance. Use of an adapter also allows for more motion of the suspended...

  • Does the Curt Hitch Extender Part # C45791 Reduce Gross Trailer Weight
The Curt Hitch Extender part # C45791 will only reduce the tongue weight (TW) capacity of the vehicle's hitch, not the gross trailer weight (GTW). • How Can Longer Ball Mount Not Reduce Hitch Weight Capacity
Technically any additional length is going to increase leverage on the trailer hitch. But there isn't an exact standard length ball mount so going super technical on how much the force multiplied when the ball mount is beyond a certain length is just not something our manufacturers do. So when you combine that with fact that most ball mounts are not that much longer than others the tongue weight capacity of a vehicle is not reduced when using a longer ball mount like the part # 80232....
