I was surprised by just how solid and heavy it was made.
Just what I needed to move my Bobcat UTV hitch back to I can use it as my yard dog to shift my trailers around and not worry about the plastic tailgate nor the plastic bed getting damaged.
The hitch sits under the bed and this extends it out so it is useable.

Comments
After one year its still one of the best upgrades I have done to my Bobcat UTV. The only thing I have added is installing two anti-rattle hitch tighter to take out the rattle from the hitch extension and the ball hitch when I dont have a trailer connected.
Bob - 10/24/2022

by:

I tested it on the Jeep and the Stowaway 2 in storage. It works perfect to create clearance with the extra wide spare tire

Comments
We are delighted that you are happy with your purchase! Just be aware that using an extender such as this will lower the towing and tongue weight capacity of the hitch by half, due to the extra leverage moving the load rearward will cause.
-- Etrailer Expert Mike L - 09/15/2022

by:

I needed the hitch extender because I added a 9'6" camper on to my truck and I pull my jeep trailer with truck. I trussed the extender back to frame.

by:

very well made, is as described except does not have the smaller hole for a narrower hitch pin or lock that the picture shows, so is not exactly as pictured. discovered after I received it that it could be vastly improved. the addition of a couple "ear loops" on the sides would greatly simplify use of safety chains. the existing safety chains could go from the trailer hitch to the loops and then new short safety chains from the loops to the vehicle. otherwise, one has to modify the existing chains as they are too short, by adding or replacing chain, and then one ends up with some pretty long safety chains

Comments
This item has been updated without the smaller hole. We are in the process of getting new photos together for the item. I apologize for the confusion. Also, our extenders do not have safety chain loops. Extenders cut the weight capacity 50 percent, so for safety purposes, you will have to use the loops on the original hitch.

The hitch extension worked perfect. The only one that was 18" pin to pin which was exacty what I needed to make this combo work.
Dual hitch to start. Top whole a luggage rack to haul coolers and the bottom for the bike rack.
Thanks etrailer.

by:

This extension was exactly what I wanted, was well made and reasonably priced,

by:

Works great, use it for ladders, lumber, and 12ft aluminum boat

by:

Great service! This is one of many orders that I have placed and each one has been five star.

Comments
No complaints, high quality product!

by:

Fit the bill for what I needed it to do.

by:

This works perfectly for my application which was to tow a trailer with my tailgate down. Does lower your towing capacity by a fair amount, but for trailers with low tongue weights this isn’t a big deal.

by:

Bought some tail light lenses for my fishing boat trailer good price came quickly Great service put a bike rack also easy to put together takes minutes to put on and takeoff rack $200 cheaper than my neighbor same bike rack then I bought a ball hitch extension 18 inch to keep my wrangler that we Toby hind the motorhome from hitting the back bumper when I make a sharp turn I’m sure that should take care of the problem everything I bought from the trailer our quality products quality service and everything they ship always comes on time personally I think etrailer rocks

by:

The extender is fine, although I had to do a work around. The female end of the extender is not deep enough The 5/8 inch holes of the tow bar will not line up with the 5/8 inch holes of the extender. I must use the 1/2 inch hole of the extender. And you only gave me 5/8 inch pins. The 1/2 inch I own is not long enough to go all the way through the extender. The work around was to buy a 1/2 x 4 inch bolt and nut. Not ideal, but it works.

by:

Excellent quality - not a scratch on it when received. The welds appear to be very good. Delivered very quickly.
Didn't rate it excellent only because it lacks rings near the end for safety chains. On the other hand, one extension I found had rings (2 sets of rings - one for vehicle to extension, another from extension to trailer), but it cost nearly $200, and had the same weight rating as this one. As received, the safety chains have to be very long, but for the difference in price, (64 vs 200) I could have rings welded on if needed..

by:

This extension worked great to allow me to fit my bike rack (4 bikes) between my SUV and pop-up camper. Without it, the propane tank, battery and tongue crank were in the way and prevented me from getting the bikes on the rack. It's rock solid, trailer tows the same as with no extention.

by:

Needed a hitch extension for Gator 825I this piece fit perfectly not a cheap add on 5stars definitely

Still working like it was designed for thanks again

by:

Quality, fits well, exactly what I needed!
This
extends the reach of my hitch on a Yamaha golf cart, under a rear-facing seat. I added an E-trailer step to make it easy for people to step onto the rear platform.

by:

Works just as advertised, needed this to extend the hitch out farther so I could pull my sprayer behind a John Deere Gator, works great, gets the hitch out from under the vehicle. Can't say enough about the great service from etrailer, ordered, and they upgraded my shipping to quicker service, great communication during the process, will do all my trailer accessories buying from them from now on!!! Thanks

by:

Works 100% as advertised. I use it to extend my bike rack past my new rear mounted spare. I’ve put in thousands of highway miles and some off road with bikes. Zero problems.

by:

Received HE18 receiver extension on the date promised by etrailer (actually a few hours earlier than scheduled). Installation was a breeze and the extension is a quality product. Also contacted etrailer, via email, for advice on some related additional products I may wish to purchase ... the response was quick and clearly written.

Good service, good product.

by:

You cannot beat the customer service and the quality of their products. It's not often anymore you find people who really care about you as a customer. These people care and their products are the best. I bought the 18 inch hitch extension and it is exactly what I needed. They even upgraded my shipping. I will recommend them to my friends and you can bet I will use them in the future. I wish them all the success in the world.

by:

Order/communication/shipping was awesome. Ordered Sunday night and got an email from a rep saying it was received. An hour later another email from another rep said it was in stock and would ship shortly. Shipping email came that same night, and product arrived in 3 days as expected. Product is very solid, just as spec'd and fits my need perfectly. Only negative is it is doesn't have safety chain hooks which will have to be welded on.

by:

Found exactly what I was looking for at etrailer. I purchased an 18" hitch extender to aid in launching my skiff. I paid for 3 days shipping and it arrived in 3 days along with the accessories I ordered. All products very well made and did the job.

by:

Looks like just what the doctor ordered, I'll need to see if my bike rack will work with it

works great, completely satisfied

This 18" hitch extension was exactly what I needed to be able to open my rear Jeep door while pulling my raft trailer.

Very high quality product at a fair price!

by:

I think the best thing to say about my purchase is I was helped by one of the customer service people who was terrific and very patient with me. I was not rushed to make a decision and it was like speaking with a friend. I knew what I was talking about and what I needed, and so did she. It really was like having a beer with a friend. She said you must be careful with how much weight the bumper will hold, how much you can pull, and how much strength you will lose with using this extension. She was very helpful and said your plan certainly seems like it will work.

We are buying more and more items on line and doing that with e-trailer makes it easy. We are just normal RV people, but when we buy something, like most people, we don't want an argument, we don't want issues, we just want our stuff as smoothly as possible and move on.

e- trailer will do that for you. What they promise you will happen, it's not even a second thought when you buy something.

  • Increasing Tire Size on Jet Ski Trailer
Going with a 5 inch increase in wheel diameter will only increase the trailer height by about 2-1/2 inches, which isn't too big of a deal. If your trailer is equipped with fenders, ideally you'll want to see at least three inches of clearance between the top of the tire and the underside of the fender. You might be able to raise the fenders if they're long enough, if not you'd want to replace them. I've linked to our fenders that are suitable for a 13 inch wheel. Flipping the axle over...

  • Does Extending Tongue of Trailer Affect Tongue Weight Capacity of Trailer Hitch
You are correct, if you were to extend the length of your trailer tongue it would not lower the capacity of the tongue weight of your hitch. If anything the hitch has more leverage over the tongue weight now like you mentioned so the opposite would almost be true. In reality if you were to measure the tongue weight before and after extending the tongue out on a trailer it should be a lower number. That being said the # HE18 has a 3,500 lb overall capacity and a 350 lb tongue weight capacity.

The Draw-Tite Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers part # HE18 has a 3,500 lb weight capacity or 50% of the hitch capacity, whichever is lower is the figure you'll need to abide by. It can be used with an adjustable pintle hitch no problem.

  • Using Two 18 Inch # HE18 Hitch Extenders to Launch and Retrieve Sailboat
The answer to your question will depend a lot on how much the tongue weight of the boat/trailer is. Using more than one extender is not something we recommend, because using one will lower the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by half. Adding another extender will bring the tongue load out to 3 feet rearward of the point where the first extender pins into the receiver, and at that point there would be an unknown amount of leverage applied to your hitch, and I couldn't say what the tongue...

  • Hitch Extender Recommendation for a Can Am Commander for Salt Spreader
If your Can Am Commander has a 2 inch hitch the hitch extender that would most likely work best for you would be the # HE18. This product has more than enough capacity for your spreader, but you should note that when you use a hitch extender like this you end up cutting the capacity of the hitch in half due to the additional leverage created. You will need to make sure the hitch on your Commander has at least twice the capacity for the weight of your salt spreader. Especially if your...

  • How to Determine if a Hitch Extender Can Be Used While Towing a Trailer
The # HE18 can work for what you are trying to do only if when you reduce the capacity of the hitch by 50 percent it still as enough capacity for the trailer it is towing. Since your hitch would end up having a 250 lb capacity when used with this adapter you will need to verify the tongue weight of the trailer first by checking out the link I attached that details how to do this and then make any adjustments as needed to get it below 250 lbs.

  • Do Hitch Extenders Work Without Capacity Reduction When Flat Towing
For flat towing purposes the capacity of the hitch does not get reduced that same since the 4 wheels being on the ground prevents vertical tongue weight from being put on the hitch. We sell high-low adapters that work in a similar way and they do not reduce towing capacities either. If you need 18 inches of extension the part # HE18 that you referenced would work well for this.

I recommend that you start off by checking your owner's manual to determine the tongue weight capacity of your 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche and the hitch receiver. Exceeding these capacities could damage the truck or cause the attachment points between the vehicle and the hitch to fail. The longest standard 2 inch hitch receiver extension is our Hidden Hitch 18 Inch Extender, # HE18. We do offer an extender for 2-inch hitches that is 18-inches in length, part # HE18 from Hidden Hitch. This offers 18-inches between the hitch pin holes to provide better clearance when making sharp turns while towing. Please note this extender cannot be used with a weight distribution system and it will reduce your hitch's capacity by 50-percent as a result of the changed geometry at the hitch.

  • Can Hitch Extender HE18 Be Used On Chevy Silverado 2500HD with Camper for Carrying Thule T2
The # HE18 would work for you actually. As much as we try not to recommend the hitch extenders (especially these longer ones) in your situation the # HE18 is a totally viable solution. Your bike rack and bike weight would be under the weight capacity of the extender that is 350 lbs and your truck's hitch capacity would be well over the amount needed for the weight as well.

  • Trailer Hitch Mount 4 Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2006 Hummer H2
I do not recommend the use of the trailer hitch extender # he18 for use with a bike rack. Using a hitch extension reduces the the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. With a bike rack like the Yakima SwingDaddy and the rack loaded to its 120 pound capacity, the combined weight of the racks and bikes would be enough to exceed or come close to the maximum reduced tongue weight capacity.

  • Will the 18 Inch Hitch Extender Part # HE18 Clear the Tailgate of a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Series
The hitch extender you referenced, part # HE18 will extend your receiver by 18 inches when measured from the center of the hitch pin hole in the receiver to the pin hole in the extender. When the 18 inch length of the extender is added to the length of the ball mount, you will probably find that you have enough distance to clear your tailgate unless the tongue of the pop-up is really short. The downside of using an extender is the fact that placing the tongue weight load of the camper...

The Hitch Extender, # he18, is hollow at both ends so that would be tubular steel. The use of a hitch extender will reduce the capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. If the hitch started with a 350 pounds tongue weight capacity, by using this extension that amount will be reduced to 175 pounds.

  • Does Using A Hitch Extender Affect Both Tongue Weight and Trailer Weight?
When using a Draw-Tite Hitch Extender # HE18 or similar extension you will reduce the maximum tongue weight and maximum trailer weight capacities of your receiver in half. And since the extender has its own weight capacities of 350lbs tongue weight and 3,500lbs trailer weight, you must not exceed those capacities either. It sounds like you're asking about the reduction in hitch capacity when using a hitch extender, and why this doesn't change with the actual length of the extender. I completely understand your confusion, as it stands to reason that a shorter extender like the 7" Brophy # HE06 would allow for a stronger setup compared to a longer extender like the 18" # HE18, while both options state a 50 percent reduction in trailer hitch capacity.
