Sadly I have not been able to use it. It does not fit my 2012 Corolla. the bumper sticks out to far for the holes to line up to secure it with the pin. The other hitch I have that is not a riser leaves the carry baset extremely low to the ground and scrapes pretty much any size small bump in the road or driveway. :( But I find this not to the discredit to the Maxxtow but to the Corolla. I have been hoping to find an extension that I could use with it but have not been able to do so thus far.

Comments
Thank you for your review. You need to measure how much the bumper sticks out on your corolla but if you need just a little more wiggle room this extender is 7 from the hitch pin hole to the extenders pin hole: Item # HT5R. Please note that extenders diminish the weight capacity by 50.

Fits in my Curt Class I 1 1/4" hitch just fine. Brings the bike rack up to a much more comfortable height. Solidly made and does the job perfectly!

I always look to etrailer when I need solutions to problems or accessories for hitch or trailer needs. They haven't failed me yet. The problem this time was an inexpensive cargo hauler picked up locally that hung too low from our SUV and would drag on certain drive entrances. So, the solution was hitch adapter. It raises the hauler just enough without interfering with the rear door. Thanks again....

Comments
Please be aware that using a hitch adapter will lower the tongue weight capacity and the towing capacity of your hitch by half.

Well built and quite heavy. This adapter works perfectly as intended. Main complaints is that it rubs against my bumper because it doesn't quite stick out far enough which can be fixed by sticking some foam on the backside of it. Also it is rather loose in the 1 1/4" side of the adapter. So it makes a lot of noise especially when there is no weight on it.

Comments
The distance from the inch and a quarter hitch pin hole to the back of the 2 inch receiver is 3 inches so you must see if your bumper will clear that distance. An anti-rattle device like this one will help with the noise: Item # RM-061-125.

- MT70355
by:

Ordered this adapter in order to use a bike rack designed for a 2" receiver in one of my vehicles that has a 1.25" receiver. The design of the adapter also allows me to mount the bike rack as close to the bumper of the vehicle as possible - minimizing the leverage and bounce & sway that the bike rack has on the receiver tube.

Thus is a great adapter for any car with a hitch. Offsets for height. Well made.

This Hi-Lo adapter made it possible to carry a Segway on the back of my Mazda Miata MX-5. Didn't think it was possible......

Comments
Keep in mind that using this adapter will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by half. This means that anything carried on the hitch cannot weigh more than half the hitch tongue weight capacity.

Great product, and very well planned installation on a brand new HR-V. The video indicated I would have to bend the muffler heat shield a little, but I installed that bolt/side first and let it lever the room it needed (practically none). I would say that getting inboard rear muffler isolation mount back on would be tough for a lot of people, as it was a tight space and required a great deal of prying - muffler backwards and rubber mount downwards. I also purchased an adapter to go from 1-1/4" to a 2" receiver with a 4-1/2" rise, and this made using my existing 2" flat rack and bike rack immediately usable on this vehicle. The measurements suggested it would be a close fit, and the adapter was either just touching the plastic bumper (we don't want rub marks!), or about a 1/16" away from it. I ground off about 1/8" from the top tapered down about 3/4" and it's perfect.

The MaxxTow Hitch Adapter works great but is approximately 1/8 to long on the end that goes in the receiver. That is the reason for 4 stars, if it fit the receiver properly it would have been a 5 Star product.

Comments
This adapter is intended to be used in Class II hitches, and that may be the reason this is not fitting in your receiver hitch, especially if you do have a Class 1 hitch.

- MT70355
by:

I had to cut it to make it shorter to fit my receiver. Other than that it works great. I had to modify it to work for me to use and I used it for a bike carrier , I wouldn't use it for a trailer after I cut it down but if it fits your reciever without cutting it there wouldn't be any reason you couldn't use it for anything you wanted. I gave it 3 stars for that reason.

Comments
The reason the adapter didnt originally fit your hitch is that you probably have a Class I hitch. To prevent higher-rated class II accessories from being used, some hitch manufacturers weld or punch a stop into the receiver tube. We dont recommend cutting on a hitch accessory because the heat build-up can have a negative effect on the structure of the metal and thus weaken it.

I recently added a hitch to my new Alltrack, but they would only install a 1.25” class 2 receiver. However, all of my accessories are 2” — my bike rack, cargo carrier, etc. — so, I bought an adaptor from the installer — NONE of my accessories would fit, it was just too tight. This Maxxtow adaptor works perfectly. It’s sturdy, tight, and has the added bonus allowing me to open the tailgate with bike loaded and of getting my cargo above the exhaust. Perfect solution.

My new Subaru came with a 1 1/4" hitch, and I had three attachments for bikes and canoes that were for a 2" hitch. This adapter is secured inside the 1 1/4" hitch receiver. I have not yet traveled with a loaded bike rack on it. My only concern is that it could have a little extra play for things to rock around, since it creates an additional potential point of rotation. I will probably insert a shim to tighten the fit.

  • Recommended Hitch Adapter For Additional Clearance on Hitch Mounted Cargo Carrier
In order to gain additional clearance for your hitch mounted cargo carrier, I recommend the MaxxTow Dual Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 12" Long # MT70070. This will raise your cargo carrier 6-1/4" and has a maximum tongue weight capacity of 400 lbs. The only issue you may have is that the use of an extender will reduce the weight capacity of your hitch by 50 percent, so you will need to check and see what that is on your particular hitch. For example, if you had a hitch with a...
