Note: This adapter is designed to flat tow a vehicle only. Do not use to tow a trailer. When using with a hitch-mounted accessory, such as a bike rack or cargo carrier, the tongue weight of your hitch will be reduced by at least 50 percent.

Most tow systems require some sort of hitch accessory to either raise or lower the tow bar to an appropriate level. The "Safe Zone" for a motor-home-mounted tow bar ranges from 3" above level to 3" below. Car-mounted models must be absolutely level. This high-low adapter can provide you with the necessary drop or desired rise to achieve a level tow bar setup.

Video Transcript for Roadmaster Tow Bars RM-048-2 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number RM-048-2, and this is the Road Master High Low Hitch Adapter. Now one of the leading causes of tow system failure is an out of level tow bar. That's simply when a tow bar is at an upward or downward slope. An accessory like this will allow you to connect your tow bar at a safe level height. It's going to allow for proper positioning of your tow bar system. It can be used in either the drop or rise position. Right here it's in the rise position and we can simply flip it over, that way it can be used in the drop position as well.

It's going to give us a drop or rise of 2"; that's measuring from the center of the receiver tube to the center of the shank. This is designed for use with tow bars only, so you do not want to use it with any type of trailer. It's made from a sturdy, solid steel construction, so it's going to feature a nice solid shank here on the back side. It also has a really nice finish to it and that's going to be designed to help it stand up really well against rust and corrosion. Now, it is designed for a two inch by two inch trailer hitch receiver. This portion here is going to slide into your hitch, and then welded onto the shank is going to be a two inch by two inch receiver tube.

It's going to offer a ton weight of 400 lbs., with a gross towing weight of 10,000 lbs. We'll take a few measurements real quick. The distance that we have from the center of one pin hole to the center of the other is going to give us a measurement of 9 1/8". It's going to give us an overall length of 13 5/8", with an overall height of 4 3/4". The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the shank is going to measure 2", and then from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the receiver tube, measuring to the base of that weld, is going to measure 5 1/2". The receiver tube, measuring from end to end, is going to give us an overall length of 6". Again it's made from a solid steel construction, has a really nice finish on it to protect it against rust and corrosion.

It's just a nice heavy duty piece, again, offering that gross towing weight of 10,000 lbs. Now, it's also a really simple installation. All you you have to do is slide the shank into the receiver tube of your hitch. You're going to push that in there until you get your pin holes to line up with one another, and then you'll simply insert a hitch pin and clip or a hitch pin and lock. These are going to be sold separately and they can be found here at etrailer.com. The one I'm using for our demonstration today is part number PC3.

Once you have that secured inside your hitch, you're ready to connect your tow bar system and get out on the road. That's going to do it for our review of part number RM-048-2, this is the Road Master High Low Hitch Adapter. .

Excellent product! Needed to raise receiver to keep my Versahaul bike rack from scraping when entering or exiting inclined driveways. Works a treat and a well built solid unit.

by:

Works well on my 2014 Wrangler Unlimited. Yakima Swing Daddy - 4 bike rack.

I am able to open the gate completely until it locks.

by:

I run a motorhome during the summer. I changed towed vehicles from a Truck to a SUV. This Hi/Lo receiver is what I required to ensure a straight tow. I went with the heavier 10K rating. Etrailer may not be the cheapest on the net, however very reliable. The picture shows the finish tow setup. The piece above everything is a motorcycle lift.

by:

Works great with a cargo carrier and heavy built

by:

Solved my problem of not enough spare tire clearance on the hitch-mounted storage rack I had bought. Solid construction, easy to use, as are the hitch pins and storage bag.

Everything has worked out fine. Weve used the equipment quite a bit since the fall for our bird hunting trips. Rather than use the straps on the bag I just secure it in the rack with bungee cords. Much faster to load and unload.

I purchased a Roadmaster rise/drop hitch in order for my motor home to flat tow a Jeep Grand Cherokee more level. I searched the internet for the best prices on several hitch brands. I found the combination of Roadmaster and eTrailer to be very reasonably priced and of excellent quality. This is at least my third purchase of towing components from etrailer, and I have always had timely deliveries and very courteous support. I think I’m at the point of just shopping etrailer in the future, rather than wasting time comparison shopping.

by:

The two inch adapter was used on my wheelchair ramp to lower it for easier transport of the wheelchair on and off the ramp. The assembly itself was met without any problems. The only addition I incorporated was to use some WD-40
on the inner ridges of the adapter to allow sliding the adapter on easier.
I felt etrailer delivered a good product which was easy to use. I am a disabled 64 year old woman who is in great appreciation of your company.

by:

Roadster makes very high quality products for towing vehicles behind motor homes. This product is used for leveling the motor home hitch to the tow bar from the towed vehicle. Construction, material and finish are excellent. eTrailer delivered this in two days. Excellent delivery and service from eTrailer.

by:

Wow, delivery was super fast on this 2" drop receiver. I ordered it Sunday night and received it on Wednesday. My roadmaster tow bar was slanting just under 3" so this should do the trick to get it closer to level. My only regret is that I forgot to order a second hitch pin to go with it, and had to run out to the store to buy one. :-)

by:

Good quality... arrived super fast... I got free shipping as I added some safety cables to my order that I needed anyway... The Safety Cables are needed to extend my tow hitch safety cables for the added length of the drop down hitch and a Ready Brake that I use to stop my toad....

by:

Needed a different drop hitch adapter due to new tow vehicle.
I have ordered many items from etrailer.com in the past, so this
was a natural place to begin my search.
The price was fair and shipping arrived just as stated when I ordered.

Would definitely purchase from etrailer.com again.

by:

Easy shopping, very good price and received it in a timely manner. Exactly what I needed. When I visited a local trailer/hitch company here in KC they had no idea what a drop hitch was. I was floored.

I would do business again with etrailer and would recommend to friends and family.

by:

I am giving it 2 stars only for the fast service by etrailer. The product alone I'm not happy with. Went to pick up our new RV and our Jeep's tow bar would only go in a 1/3 of the way. Seemed to be more than just paint. We had to force it in to get to the first hole just so I could get the Jeep home. I will be requesting etrailer take this product back.

by:

Perfect for my application. I needed to raise my tow bar connection to my car a couple of inches to help prevent the bar from dragging in low spots. This accomplished that and I very happy with the quality of the receiver extension.

by:

As advertised, delivered quickly, very stout and sturdy built out of solid square steel, not tubing. Powder coated for great lasting appearance.

Very satisfied with this purchase.

Haven't used the quiet hitch yet, but it looks to be well made and engineered.

by:

Very heavy duty. Works great on my motorhome with my Blueox towbar.

Holy moly....I could hook a CSX
freight train to this 2" drop receiver.
Deftly handled sale.

by:

these parts are crucial to making trailers adapt to different tow vehicles

strong and durable I have confidence in the quality of these parts

by:

Amazing how one small, properly installed item can give you both practical and safe towing. Thanks to etrailer, I got it right the first time.

by:

As always, E-Trailer never lets you down. This arrived on schedule and is of high quality as expected. We are using this to tow our "dingy" behind our motorhome. Love the Video's the E-trailer provides...makes for a smooth purchase experience, because 99% of all your questions are answered in the video.

by:

High quality. Only wish the price would have been a little lower.

by:

Woks perfect! Great quick service from Etrailer!

by:

Built stronger than I expected. Product was perfect!! Top tube was solid, but easy to drill for extra holes.

by:

Good price and fast delivery on a heavy duty drop receiver

by:

Very responsive.
Large inventory.
Very
personal too.
Product instructions and videos are the best.

  • How Far From the Hitch Pin Hole to the Edge of the Receiver on the Roadmaster High Low Adapter?
6-3/4" from the hitch pin hole to the backside of where the 2" receiver starts and 12-1/2" from the pin hole to the outside edge of the 2" receiver. I have linked a diagram below of the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars item # RM-048-2 that will give you a couple other dimensions you may need. • Pin Hole to Back of Receiver on Roadmaster High-Low Hitch Adapter # RM-072-2
I went out to the warehouse and pulled Roadmaster High-Low Hitch Adapter # RM-072-2 to measure it. From the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the receiver portion of it measures 6 inches. And on the other pin hole at the end to the back of the receiver is 4-1/4 inches. The main shank is solid and the receiver portion is open at the back.

  • Is A Hitch Extension Available For A Class III Hitch With A 2 Inch Rise
The Roadmaster High-Low Hitch Adapter, part # RM-072-2, is a hitch adapter that is used for tow bars only. It is not to be used with any type of trailer. It is used to level the tow bar with the vehicle being towed. This adapter fits a 2 inch receiver and will give a 2 inch rise or drop. The overall length of the hitch adapter is 14-3/4 inches and the measurement from hitch pin hole to hitch pin hole is 10-1/4 inches. I am including a link to the tow bar hitch adapters with a 2 inch rise. The...

  • Can High-Low Adapter be Used for Motorcycle Carrier
Although you technically can use the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter # RM-072-2 to mount an accessory like a motorcycle carrier, the use of ANY adapter will reduce the tongue weight of the hitch on your vehicle by 50 percent. So if your hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 500 lbs the use of an adapter such as this would lower the capacity to 250 lbs and your bike and hauler would be too heavy. So essentially, unless you have a hitch with a tongue weight capacity of 800 lbs you would not...

The Roadmaster Dual Hitch Adapter, part # RM-072-2, may be what you are looking for. It is designed for tow bar use only and is not to be used with any type of trailer. This adapter fits a 2 inch receiver and will give a 2 inch rise and drop. The overall length of the hitch adapter is 14-3/4 inches and the measurement from hitch pin hole to hitch pin hole is 6-3/4 inches, which is the amount of useable extension when installed in the receiver. The 23x47 Carpod Walled Cargo Carrier for 2" Hitches # M2205 already has a built in rise of 5-1/2" so if you're needing more rise you'll need to use a high-low adapter. Depending on how much more rise you're needing will depend on which adapter you'll need, but if it's just a little bit more height you need, you can use the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter for Tow Bars - 2" Hitches # RM-048-2 which is going to give you 2 more inches of rise. I recommend the etrailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitch item # e98882. This does not have an anti-rattle feature because the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter item # RM-048-2 has a solid shank design. You need to have the end of the ball mount open for a anti-rattle hitch pin like item # 63232 to work. I recommend the etrailer item # e98882 because you can buy more than one and have them keyed alike. To properly secure whatever you are attaching to the Roadmaster High-Low Adapter item # RM-048-2...

  • Can Hitch Extender be Used with Kuat NV 2.0 to Clear Spare
Extenders can be used with bike racks but you need to keep in mind that doing so cuts the capacity of the trailer hitch in half. The part # HE06 would fit your 2 inch hitch and provide 7 inches of additional extension. As long as your hitch is rated for the weight of Kuat NV 2.0 # NV22G and bikes this would be a feasible solution.

The Roadmaster High-Low Hitch Adapter, part # RM-072-2, is intended for leveling a tow-bar when flat towing a vehicle behind a motor home. It cannot be used to tow a camper. You might be able to use part # HE18, which is a hitch extender. This item adds 18 inches to the length of the receiver but also cuts in half its tongue weight capacity.
