This tow bar extension is a quality built product.. Very helpful backing a trailer.

I have included some photos of the
hitch extension. The first two are just on my truck without and with the extension. Without the extension, note the proximity of bike handlebars to the tailgate. In the second photo with the extension, the handlebars are much removed from the tailgate.

Note that this is a ¾ ton truck with an insert in the receiver. With the insert in place, the front holes of extension did not align with the receiver. It was short 1/8 to 3/16 inch. If needed, I could solve this issue with a smaller bolt.

The next photos are without and with the extension in the receiver of our RV. With the cover on RV the dramatic effect of extension is not so obvious.

In the first photo without the extension, the handlebars of bike literally contact the back of RV. In contrast in the second photo, the handlebars are 5 to 6 inches from the back of the RV. Though there are no road trips yet, I am confident that the hitch extension will protect the bike and importantly will protect the back of the RV.

I hope that these comments and photos are useful to you. If no, I can try again in spring when we remove cover from the RV.

My order was shipped within an hour of me completing the online order process and it arrived a day early which was great!

by:

Very disappointed! Called to ensure this would work with my Hollywood RV bike rack. It does not. The Hollywood rack needs three inches of depth to the center of the pin hole. Aggravated that I have to repackage, return and now get the correct extender.

by:

Shipping is unbelievably fast. Called to order part and when I told her how fast I needed it, they shipped it right out. Service is great. The part fit and because it’s Roadmaster I knew it would be a quality part.

Great

by:

I purchased this product because I need that extra 7 1/2 inch clearance under my bumper. I drive a 2006 E350 van I changed the factory bumpers for a chrome step bumper and it made my Reese hitch sit in more than 3 inches so I wanted an extra so I moved my hitch with a good tow rating. So that's about it.

by:

Susan from etrailer.com provided outstanding customer service skills in selecting the correct hitch extender for my Highlander. I fits perfectly and I can now use my Thule bike rack. Nice job, Susan!

by:

Service from etrailer is tops. Product arrived quickly and well packaged. I used it to allow my winch hitch mount to clear my auto bumper and fit my class IV trailer hitch. I don't like using extensions for actual towing. This product fit my intended function.

by:

Worked very well with a double bike rack and Malone anti rattle hitch lock a great combination Strong and Quite

by:

The Hitch extender worked great for towing light loads, unfortunatly mine snapped while i was towing my speedboat, which is not the companys fault, there is a high chance i was towing over their suggested weight limmit.

Purchasing thru etrailer was a great experience. My order was promptly processed, the package arrived as expected, and the shipping vendor used (UPS) delivered my package on time and when they said they’d deliver it. The products purchased are of excellent quality. etrailer is responsive to customer input, and I’d definitely do business with this company again. I highly recommend etrailer!

by:

Well built. Exactly what I needed!

by:

Exactly as expected. I was worried that my order wouldn't arrive before leaving for Florida but it's here! I am replacing a dual 2" / 4" drop hitch as my Colorado requires a straight pull. The extender is priced right .

by:

Perfect fit. Needed my Blue-Ox towbar extended out from the motorhome a minimum of 5". This adapter brought it out 7" and worked wonderful.

by:

This is a very stout connector I needed to get the tow vehicle away from the bike rack. Well built and etrailer took great care of me.

by:

One of the holes in the hitch extender was drilled quarter of an inch off and made the hitch extender go to the second hole and that one put away out there there was not enough support good product is somebody screwed up making it.

by:

Works as advertised. Had to get an extender for my hitch so that the step wouldn’t hit the back of my truck when I turned.

by:

We needed this product to extend our towbar to put a rock guard on. We are parked in an RV Park at the moment, backed up to another RV, pictures are not possible. I can't express enough appreciation to Stefan (sp) for his assistance when there was an error in my shipping address (my fault?). You have excellent customer service !

by:

Perfect fit to extend hitch from under spare tire on my Jeep Wrangler.

by:

We have purchase a couple items from etrailer, the products always come in a decent am out of time and they have the better prices. I will continue to purchase my trailer parts from etrailer

by:

The hitch extension is working exactly as it should.

by:

This is the perfect piece to make sure the towed vehicle is clear of the vehicle doing the towing, especially in turns that are sharper than expected. Great for a motorhome towing.

by:

Product is good but it should include locking pin or include link to purchase. Had to purchase separately.

by:

Very efficient and highly professional company. I highly recommend Etrailer to everyone. Product was as described and delivery was prompt. Excellent experience!!!

  • Recommendation for Hitch Lock and Anti-Rattle Device for Roadmaster Hitch Extender
The Roadmaster Anti-Rattle Hitch Extender # RM-071-1075 comes with the threaded bolt and pin. This threaded hitch bolt does indeed reduce noise and movement inside the hitch receiver, providing a more secure and quiet connection. However, there is not a locking hitch pin available that is compatible with the threaded hitch pin hole on this extender. A thief would need to have the correct wrench to remove it. If you are looking to lock the extender to your hitch receiver, I instead recommend...

  • Bike Carrier With Ramp To Transport 2 Electric Bikes On 2007 Range Rover
The Hollywood Racks TRS Bike Rack for 2 Bikes # HR3000 does not have a ramp and only has a weight capacity of 50lbs per bike, so you will actually want to look into some other options for your e-bikes. The Kuat NV 2.0 Base Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 2" Hitches # BA22B with Access Ramp # ANVBRB may allow you to drop your tailgate but we haven't tested this so I can't confirm. The distance from center of hitch pin hole to nearest part of bike rack is 11-3/4", so if you have at least this amount...

  • What Hitch Lock and Anti-Wobble Device do You Recommend for the Roadmaster Extender # RM-071-75?
I can definitely help eliminate the confusion. The Roadmaster Hitch Extender # RM-071-75 does not come with any additional parts with it. If you want a compatible hitch pin lock, I recommend the etrailer Hitch Pin Lock # e98882. As far as anti-wobble, the best option is to use a collar like the etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Stabilizer for 2" Hitches - Vinyl Coated Steel # e99007. With these two components, you receive theft-deterrence as well as added stability. I went ahead and attached...

  • Replacement Bolt for Roadmaster Anti-Rattle Hitch Extender 071-1075
The Roadmaster Anti-Rattle Hitch Extender for Tow Bars # RM-071-1075 does come with an anti-rattle bolt, so if that's the extender you have, it should have come with the bolt, and the correct replacement is the one you mentioned, the Replacement Anti-Rattle Threaded Hitch Bolt and Clip for Roadmaster Hitch Extender # RM45FR. It is approximately 2-5/8 inches, and is threaded, meaning it is specifically for Extender # RM-071-1075. Since you mentioned your Roadmaster extender did not come...

  • Can Hitch Extenders Be Used With Weight Distribution
If you had a 2-1/2 inch receiver on your truck, you could use something like the Reese # RP45292 cut down to 24 inches, but a 2-1/2 inch hitch isn't typically found on an F-150. This extender is specifically designed for this purpose. If you have a 2 inch hitch, you won't want to use a hitch extender, the extra 'joint' between the hitch and the load would allow too much movement and too much stress on the connection between the extender and the shank, which could cause the connection point...

  • Recommended Anti-Wobble Trailer Hitch Lock For A Roadmaster # 071-75
When installing The Roadmaster Hitch Extender for Tow Bars - 2 inch Hitches - 7-3/4 inch Extension # RM-071-75 I recommend The Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2 inch Hitches - 3-1/2 inch Span # 63232. This lock fits a 2 inch hitch and has a pin diameter of 5/8 inches. This pin reduces play and vibration in the hitch connection. I attached a review video link below.

  • Recommendation of a Hitch Extender for Motor Home to Flat Tow a Jeep Wrangler
The Blue Ox hitch extender # BX88265 (10,000 pound towing capacity) and Roadmaster trailer hitch extension # RM-071-75 (6000 pound towing capacity) will be capable of flat-towing your Jeep Wrangler weighing 4300 pounds. Adding a hitch extension to flat-tow a vehicle will not decrease the rated towing capacity on the hitch extender. There isn't as much stress on the tongue. For traditional towing the towing capacity will reduce by 50 percent by adding a hitch extender. Also, these two hitches...

  • Recommended Hitch Extender to Improve Turning Radius when Flat Towing
Hitch extenders, like the Roadmaster Trailer Hitch Receiver Extension, # RM-071-75, which you referenced are designed for when you have problems clearing your vehicle's bumper or spare tire when you flat tow. For example if you hear your hitch accessories hit your car, you need a hitch extender. Yes, a hitch extender will help with the turning radius, so the longer the extension the more help you will get. However, your first consideration when choosing an extender should be choosing...

That's going to depend on how much extension you'd need. From Roadmaster we have the part # RM-071 which is 11 inches or the part # RM-071-75 which is 7-3/4 inches long. If you needed something different let me know and I can see what we have that might work.

For your B&W Tow & Stow 3-Ball Mount - 2" Hitch - 3" Drop, 3-1/2" Rise - 10K - Black # BWTS10047B a hitch extension like the Roadmaster Hitch Extender for Tow Bars - 2" Hitches - 7-3/4" Extension # RM-071-75 will give you the extension needed to tow in the rise position but it will also take your hitch's tongue weight rating down by 50% (as you stated). • Use of a Hitch Extender for a Short Pinhole Distance to Use a Thule Apex XT 4 # TH9025XT
I went ahead and spoke to my contact at Thule, and while you can technically use a hitch extender like the Roadmaster # RM-071-75, this will void the warranty if a problem were to occur with your Thule Apex XT 4 # TH9025XT. Although, the Roadmaster provides you with 2-1/2" of length from the center of the outer pinhole to the face of the extender. It is also important to note that you decrease your overall hitch weight capacity by 50% when using this hitch extender. If you are set on...

  • Hitch Extender with Hollow Shank for Bike Rack
The Roadmaster Hitch Extender # RM-071-75 has a hollow shank and extends your hitch 7-3/4". It allows for a maximum of 200lbs of tongue weight for your bike rack. It will reduce your receiver weight rating by 50% so be sure to take that into account. I recommend also getting a pair of Anti-Rattle HitchLock kits # MPG908. This will help stop your bike rack and extension from moving around inside the receiver hitch giving you a quieter and more secure hitch.

  • Anti-Rattle for a Bike Carrier and Hitch Extender on a 2012 Nissan Rogue
We do have anti-rattle devise that you could use but you need to know that the use of a hitch extender will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. The Class III hitches for your 2012 Nissan Rogue have tongue weight capacities of 300 to 350 pounds. The reduced capacity from using an extender, such as # HE06, would take that down to 150 to 175 pounds, depending on the hitch. This means the combined weight of your Swagman XTC4, # S64665 at 60 pounds, and the...

  • Does Hitch Extender Typically Affect Safety Chain and Trailer Wiring Length Needed
Typically when using a hitch extender similar to the Roadmaster Hitch Extender part # RM-071-75 the added length doesn't affect safety chain and trailer wiring fit but if you have a setup where the chains and wiring are tight then this may be an issue. For most people they have enough slack that it's not a problem at all. This hitch extender isn't designed for towing a trailer with though. For a similar one that is rated for towing you'd want the part # HE06 which can tow up to 3,500 lb...

As long as the combined weight of the Tow Defender # RM-4700 and the tongue weight applied to the hitch from the tow bar when the vehicle is coupled is less than 100 pounds, then yes, you can use the extender # RM-071-75 with the Tow Defender. The Tow Defender weighs about 20 pounds. This means that the vertical weight applied from the vehicle at the point where the tow bar connects to the extender cannot be more than 80 pounds. I recommend an extender that is rated higher such as Blue...

  • Trailer Hitch Extender for 1-1/4 Inch Trailer Hitch and Bike Carrier
I have never heard of a 3/4 inch trailer hitch receiver. Does the receiver opening actually measure 1-1/4 inches? If it is a 3/4 inch receiver opening then we will not have an option But the use of a hitch extender will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by 50 percent. The combined weight of the bike carrier and bikes cannot exceed the reduced capacity.
