Fantastic Product. Saved me from having to buy a brand new bike holder for my new car with a different hitch size.

@Tp Glad to hear that you're happy with the # 80300 hitch adapter is working well for you!

by:

The adapter seems to be of very good quality. Before looking at etrailer I'd been having a hard time finding adapters that had both the 5/8" hole (#3 pin) for attachment to my 2" trailer hitch, and a 1/2" diameter hole to attach the 1-1/4" bike rack. Some just had one size holes, others had terrible reviews. The fit is good, though there is some wiggle room. From all the reviews I've seen, ALL adapters have some movement, and the only solution is adding a locking collar, which I may do after I've tried it for a while (I just got it today). Bottom line, I'm happy with my purchase.

I used it last summer with my Thule bike rack and it worked perfectly. My only complaint is I wish it was a couple inches shorter since it does make the rack stick further out.

etrailer's Customer Service, Delivery, and Quality Products are Great!
Every question and concern I had was promptly replied to and was rectified

by:

Works exactly as it is supposed to.

by:

Does what it is designed for but rattles and shakes, even with anti rattle equipment.

by:

My hitch adapter has worked out well. I use it with my bike rake, it holds my bike rake out from my SUV about 7.5" which allows the back hatch door to open without putting my rack in the down position. It also works well with my 1-1/4' draw bar and allowing me to pull up to 3500#.

by:

Hitch fits as advertised, but like so many other reviews that I read, the box came damaged. Thus, there are areas of the hitch where the paint is scraped off down to the metal.

by:

Product is great. Just using for bike rack so it's way stronger than it needs to be.

It works as expected. Reasonably tight fit. Not much can change in a year.

by:

Had to use grinder to shave it down in order to allow it to fit in the 2” opening. Wanted to use it for 1.25 inch bike rack … but it extended out too far from the car. Had to go with a shorter adapter.

I do have a shorter adapter available. It is part # HT02. The overall length of the adapter is seven inches and the center to center of the pin holes is three inches.

I spoke to sales agent Donna to order a hitch and associated equipment for a 2016 Honda CRV we just purchased. She was extremely helpful and knowledgeable about the products and recommended excellent options. Service was great and was shipped the same day and received complete box order in a few days. Great service and prices! A winner company!

by:

Easy peasy. Put it in, pin it, done. Fits great, works great. For what it's worth, I purchased this because I was moving from a 1 1/4 on my Miata (for a Thule Helium Pro bike rack), to a standard 2" on my new-ish Subaru. I went with this extended reducer because I was concerned that the shank of the bike rack would hit the pin on anything shorter before it could snap into the hole to secure it (the bike rack is a pressure fit with a long-ish shank that goes into the hitch). It does stick out a bit, but so does nearly every giant pick up truck with extended cab and a hitch :), so I just need to park smartly.

by:

Fits perfectly, does the job. feels really solid and durable.

One detail: it comes without nut + bolt and they don't tell you this in the description. So you need to go buy this too (local car supplied such as O' Reilly will have it).

by:

Works really well so far. The main reason I got it was because it was the only adapter I could find that has the different sized holes for each end of the extender to hold the bike rack on right. So great job there!

by:

This product is a size adapter that solves a hitch problem. My old bike carrier now fits my new truck!
I am a happy man! Thank you.

Very well, thank you. I am still satisfied!

I cannot say enough good things about etrailer. Their product line and service is fantastic. The staff at etrailer is great. They stay in touch from the time you place your order until it arrives at its destination. They notify you with tracking information to give you a better idea as to when the order will arrive. The products they sell are all top notch. No cheaply made knock offs. I could not find the parts and pieces I needed for a project I was working on. I went to etrailer on line and they had everything I needed.

by:

Solid construction, easily fit in our existing 2 inch hitch. Used it for a bike rack with a 1 1/4 end and the extended sleeve gave plenty of clearance between the rack and the lift gate. Had to give it a dose of WD-40 because the fit was pretty snug but otherwise a great product.

by:

Worked great to convert a 2 inch hitch down to a smaller bike rack. My only complaint is that it is long and causes the bike rack to extend further from car then I would like.

by:

This adapter fits like a glove on both the 2" and 1-1/4" ends. Locking pin holes are in the correct locations for a perfect fit on my hitch and for my bike carrier going into the 1-1/4" end. Great product.

by:

I added the adapter to allow me to use a bike rack. The rack fits well with the adapter. My only issue is that the adapter sticks out quite far and I'm always banging my shin on it. Of course I could just remove it when not used

by:

I had a hard time finding the exact hitch adaptor I needed from many different suppliers on the internet. I was skeptical even when I found the etrailer.com website. Boy was I surprised! Their extensive inventory had many options for the adaptor I needed. The price was good, the shipping was reasonable and most of all, they had it On-Hand! Etrailer will be my first stop from now on! Thanks, Etrailer.com!

by:

This hitch adapter will allow me to use my bike rack (designed for 1 1/4 inch hitch) on my truck hitch receiver (2-inch). It's a great, inexpensive way to get double duty out of a single bike rack because we can now use it on two vehicles that have two different sized hitches.

by:

Hi - thanks for checking in. I noticed the hitch adapter doesn’t come with a pin. Seems I would need a pin to use this? Thanks

As stated in the product description, the 1/2 inch, part # PC2 and 5/8 inch, # PC3 hitch pins are sold separately.

by:

Works great with almost no wobble at all, especially when I use it with the 2" trailer hitch receiver lock. Highly recommend!

by:

I received the product ontime. It seems to be of high quality. I hope to use the adapter for my bike rack this weekend. I would definately order again from etrailer. I also ordered my hitch from them.

by:

Item arrived quickly and was as advertised. I would reorder from etrailer.com.

  • How Far Does 1-1/4" Shank Extend Inside 2" Portion of Shank?
The smaller side of the Tow Ready # 80300 reducer extends 1-3/8" inside of the bigger side and is then welded on all four sides. This is a heavy-duty item! If you care to know, that leaves 5-5/8" on the big side open. I have attached a link to this page and to a video review.

  • Recommended Drop Leg Jack for 20 Foot Car Trailer
I definitely recommend adding a couple of drop leg jacks to your car trailer to help with the rear sag you are getting when loading a vehicle. The Fulton Drop-Leg Stabilizer Jack # FSJL80300 is a great option. This is a weld-on jack that will help stabilize your trailer and the square leg will telescope to the ground when you pull the included pin. The drop leg itself measures 20 inches tall and features a 2,000 pound support capacity. You can install one for each side of the trailer at...

  • Trailer Hitch Extension For Bike Rack To Clear Opened Tailgate On Toyota Tundra
You will find that opening a tail gate all the way is just not possible with a hitch mounted bike carrier on a pickup truck. Since the tail gate extends so fat beyond the bumper when opened it would require a bike carrier to almost lay flat. Using any adapter or extension in your trailer hitch will reduce the capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. An adapter like part # 80300 would extend the hitch and possibly give you the clearance you need for your Kuat bike carrier. This extension...

  • Receiver Reducer Will Not Fit Draw-Tite Hitch
I see that you ordered Draw-Tite # 75758 and Hitch Adapter # 80300. I confirmed with the manufacturer that these will work well together and should not have any fitment issues. It is possible that there is a small flaw in the welding of the receiver or adapter that could be causing the adapter to not slide into the receiver all the way. I would shine a flashlight into the receiver and see if there is piece of metal in the way causing interference that could possibly be filed down. If not,...

  • Can Hidden Hitch 2 Inch Hitch Reducer be Used When Towing
The hitch adapter could be used while towing. Normally we would suggest purchasing a 2 inch ballmount with the correct size ball rather than use an adapter. Brophy part # HT02 would be a better choice of a reducer as a sleeve is stronger and will not reduce the capacity. You have to make sure you do not exceed the capacities of the 1-1/4 inch ball mount or the ball. The best solution and the one I recommend would be to use a proper 2 inch ball mount.

  • Adapter Recommendation to Allow a 1-1/4 Inch Bike Rack Be Used in a 2 Inch Hitch
You have a couple options, you could use the Hitch Adapter 2" to 1-1/4" # 80300 that you referenced, but this style of adapter will reduce the capacity of your hitch by 50 percent and will push your bike rack out further from the rear of your vehicle. Another option is an adapter like Hitch Reducer 2" to 1-1/4" # HT02. This will fit inside the hitch and will allow you to carry your rack. This would be the route I would go.

  • Adapting a Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack with a 1-1/4 Inch Shank for a 2 Inch Hitch
The adapter, part # 80300 is likely not a great fit, as it will reduce your hitch's tongue weight by 50% and may make your rack entirely unusable because your hitch won't have the capacity to carry anything else. Instead, I recommend a little more involved process that will preserve the rack's capacity. You can replace your tongue/stinger with part # 8880580. This will swap the 1-1/4 tongue with a 2-inch tongue by reinstalling the tongue. This has the benefit of behaving exactly like you'd...

  • Can I use This Adapter To Use my Tule 1-1/4 T2 Bike Rack with My 2 Inch Hitch
Thule does not recommend using the aluminum adapter with the 1 1/4 inch T2 bike rack. We do offer adapters which would allow you to use the rack in a 2 inch receiver. You could use Brophy part # HT02 or Hidden Hitch part # 80300. Part 80300 will decrease the hitch tongue weight capacity by 50 percent. If the hitch offers a 300 lbs tongue weight capacity the rack and bikes combined cannot exceed 150 lbs when using an adapter.

  • What 2" to 1-1/4" Hitch Adapter do You Recommend for Use on My 2021 Ford F-350?
For a hitch adapter, the only adapters we have for a 2-inch hitch is to convert it to a 1-1/4" opening. If this is the adapter you need, I recommend the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Adapter - 2" (Class III) to 1-1/4" - 4" Long # C45770. This is the shortest adapter we carry for 2" to 1-1/4". • Recommended Hitch Reducer and Lock for Thule Bike Rack
Starting with the hitch adapter for the 2 inch hitch receiver on your vehicle, I actually recommend going with the Brophy Hitch Reducer # HT02 instead of the Tow Ready # 80300 that you referenced. The reason for this is that the Tow Ready adapter, when in use, is going to reduce the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch by 50%. Depending on the weight of your bike rack and bikes, this option may result in you overloading the capacity of the trailer hitch. For example, if the hitch...

  • How To Use 1-1/4" Yakima Dr. Tray Bike Rack with 2" Hitch
The adapter I recommend using to convert the 1-1/4" shank on the Yakima Dr. Tray for use with a 2" hitch is the Hitch Reducer 2" to 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch Receiver part # HT02. This is really the only way to use this rack with a 2" hitch. The above won't reduce weight capacity either since it does not extend the connection point away from the vehicle too far. Please note you will need a hitch pin to secure the reducer, I recommend the Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches part # e98880.

The Thule T2 TH9045 extends out a good distance by itself (18 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest bike carrier rail) but if that is not enough you could use an extender. However, the use of an extender and reducer will decrease the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent.
