Ordered this to fit with an eTrailer hitch for my Rav4. This was recommended as the correct extender by live chat support. Does not fit. Will not line up for the bolt to engage threads in the receiver. Also the lock is very wiggly and does not hold the extender firmly in the receiver. Super disappointed.

I had the parts taken from our warehouse and tested together. You hit the nail on the head as the inside measurement from the center of the pin hole to the solid back is 3.75 inches, which is not quite long enough for the On Ramp Yakima bike rack shank. I also tested the shank with adapter part # C45791 and it worked perfectly. I will have Customer Service reach out to you for the best option to have extender part # e88YR returned. As for the wiggly lock, I recommend also including an anti rattle device such as part # RM-061 or part # GY88XR. They would help to hold the extender tighter to the hitch opening which helps to minimize movement.

I would definitely give these items and more importantly your sales and service. 5 stars
My new F150 has a taller tailgate and the hitch receiver is farther under the bumper than my old ‘06 F250. It is also a little higher off the ground.
One picture shows how the tailgate hits tongue Jack on my utility trailer.
The ball was 8” from the receiver. The extension and new 4” drop ball mount move the ball to 14”.
So now the tailgate can open completely. Of course I needed to lengthen the chains and wiring pigtail. The trailer is only rated for 2900 lbs so it won’t exceed the decrease in load rating.

I ordered a trailer hitch extension and it got lost in shipping. The folks at Etrailer immediately took care of me and shipped another one that I received 3 days later. Thank you everyone for your help!

by:

Can't mount the bike rack without it. Works well and is easy to use.

by:

Very High quality product, as has been everything else that I have purchased from E Trailer. Purchased to allow me to open the tailgate on my Wrangler with a carrier installed. I will try to post pictures as soon as I use it.

  • Why Does Hitch Extender Cut Capacity for Hitch but Longer Ball Mount Does Not
Hitch extenders like the etrailer part # e88YR reduce hitch capacity for two reasons. One is the length like you mentioned and the other is amount of additional movement that they introduce to the hitch setup which puts quite a bit of stress on the setup. Also, ball mounts come in varying lengths so someone could end up using a very long ball mount with this which would add even more leverage.

  • How to Determine How Much Weight Added to Trailer Near Tongue Adds to Weight On Axle
The only way you're going to be able to determine how much weight gets added to the wheels of your trailer is going to be to take the trailer to a weigh station and have just the trailer weighed with and without the 500 lbs you mentioned. There isn't a formula I can plug the numbers in that you mentioned that would accurately predict the additional weight.

  • Using Hitch Extender to Install Bike Rack on Rear on Flat Towed Jeep Wrangler
If you're wanting to use the # e88YR extender on a bike rack installed on a Jeep Wrangler that's being flat towed, that'd be fine. Just keep in mind that using the extender will decrease the tongue weight capacity of the hitch by half. Say for instance the tongue weight capacity of your hitch is 350 lbs. Using the adapter would halve that to 175 lbs, which means that the bike rack you use and the bikes placed upon it could not weigh more than 175 lbs. I realize sometimes they're necessary,...

  • Can a 2015 Ram 2500 Carry a Golf Cart in the Bed While Towing a 7,200 lb Trailer
Since most hitch extenders reduce the weight capacity of a trailer hitch in half that means the towing capacity of your 2015 Ram 2500 would be reduced to 8,550 lbs. This leaves you with 1,350 lbs of cushion with your fully loaded trailer. To determine if your golf cart is pushing you over the limits you will need to find the GVWR of your Ram (can be found on the sticker on your driver's side door jamb) and then subtract the curb weight of the pickup along with the weight of passengers,...

  • What is the Useable Length of theTrailer Hitch Extender for 2 Hitch - 8 Long Item # e88YR
Yes, the Trailer Hitch Extender for 2" Hitch Receivers - 8" Long # e88YR, is measured from the center of the hitch pin hole in the shank to the center of the hitch pin hole in the receiver portion of the extender. This measurement gives you the working distance that the extender will provide. The overall length of the extender is 12-1/2 inches.

  • Tongue Weight Capacity of the Hitch Extender, # e88YR
The maximum tongue weight of just the Hitch Extender, # e88YR, is 300 pounds. The use of this extension will reduce the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch by 50 percent. So, if your vehicle or trailer hitch has a capacity of 350 pounds, you would be limited to 50 percent of the lowest rated item. In this case it would be 175 pounds.

We have the Curt hitch extender part # C45048 which fits a 2-1/2 inch hitch size, can be used with weight distribution, and can be cut down to 24 inches if needed. This would be the best option we have as long as your Class VI hitch has a 2-1/2 inch opening.

  • Hitch Extender # e88YR use on a Ford F150
A hitch extender will give you more clearance from your Ford F150 to your trailer. You will want to keep in mind that when you use a hitch extender you cut the towing capacity of the hitch that is on your truck in half because of the increase in torque that will be on your hitch due to the increased leverage the weight of your trailer will have on your hitch. I attached an FAQ page on hitch extenders for you to check out.

  • Can a Dual Hitch Receiver be Used to Tow Trailer and Carry Motorcycle with Nissan Titan
The use of a dual receiver will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch on your Nissan Titan by 50 percent. That would take the tongue weight capacity down to 450 pounds. The combined with of the motorcycle, carrier, and the trailer tongue weight would exceed the reduced capacity of the hitch. Another option is to use a front mount hitch and carry the bike at the front of the Titan. This can reduce air flow to the motor, decrease driver visibility, and block the head lights....

  • Folding Hitch Mounted Spare Tire Carrier Recommendation to Clear Rear Spare 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser
Thanks for getting me the hitch pin to end of spare tire clearance your vehicle has. That makes my job much easier. The etrailer Cargo Carrier part # e98874 just might work for you. When folded up it has a distance of 9-1/2 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the nearest railing of the carrier. Basically you would be 1/2 inch shy of clearance so you may want to verify the measurement you took. Otherwise you'd need to use a hitch extender like # e88YR.

  • Will the GearBox 34 Clear My Ladder and Spare Tire Holder on My 2019 Mercedes Sprinter 2500?
The clearance of of the GearSpace 34 # HGK819 on your 2019 Mercedes Benz Sprinter 2500 depends on how far your ladder rack and spare tire carrier extend from the rear of your vehicle. One way that you can determine for sure if you have enough space is by measuring the furthest outward surface of your tire carrier and ladder from the center of your hitch pin hole. If that measurement falls under 10 inches, you will not have interference when using the # HGK819 on your Sprinter. Unfortunately,...

The spare tire mounted on the back of your 2010 Toyota RAV4 should not interfere with you being able to tow a small utility trailer. The tongue on the trailer should be long enough to allow you to have clearance around the spare. The spare should also be mounted high enough above the tongue of the trailer that it would not interfere with you being able to make turns with the trailer attached. You should not have to use a Hitch Extender, part # e88YR, but if you decide to you should keep...

After researching the market for hitch extenders they have decided that the short (7 or 8 inches) and long (14 or 18 inches) sizes will hopefully cover most of the market. The hitch extenders are a limited market because when using an extender you do reduce the tongue weight on your hitch by 50 percent. For example, if the hitch capacity...
