Hey guys, it's Randy here at etrailer.com We're always looking for solutions for common towing and hauling problems and today what we're going to look at are anti rattle device. Specifically, it's going to be from Curt and basically it's going to help solve the problem of an item in our hitch moving back and forth, moving up and down, making a lot of noise.Take our cargo carrier here for instance, you can see how much movement and how much play that there is at that connection point. Basically, once we put weight on here and we're heading down the road, as that shifts side to side or it moves up and down it can be felt in the cab of the vehicle. We'll take a look at the anti rattle device. We're going to show you how to get it installed, how to get it properly lined up and how it'll fix all those issues. Now when installing the anti-rattle, this tab is generally going to be sticking straight up there just like my finger. We've bent that, already.
Just a pair of pliers. You want to bend that down straight there. As you see the hole, if that just runs down to the end it's not going to line up. That's the little modification you'll need to make to ensure this is going to work with any hollow shank item. Then you see I've got it bent out just slightly. I do that so I have spring pressure.
As I slide this in, you can see it's going to hold itself in place so we can position it in line with our pinhole and then it'll hold itself there so we don't have to worry about it moving as we put it in our hitch. That little tab has been a concern for some customers. They didn't realize they could just bend that out of the way. Definitely keep that in mind. It is important that this is installed inside of the shank and not inside of your hitch. Instead of the hitch, you're just going to push it back with the end of the shank, so it needs to go inside the shank lined up with that pinhole.
Once we have it there, I'm going to stick this in and thread it in that bolt. Once we get it tightened down, you'll notice all those issues are going to be gone.Just take the clip, slide it in the other side there. Now you can see with that installed all that movement and all that play is isolated. We don't have the noise, we don't have the movement. It's just going to be a much smoother ride for anything in our cargo carrier and also for us in the vehicle.
Now you've already seen how much of a difference it makes on the cargo carrier, but now that we've got it installed on our ball mount, we're going to go out and get some video of that, as well. I think you'll see it makes a huge difference in the ride quality of your trailer. Being able to isolate that point and not having all that movement and play. We're going over our bumps course to start. You're going to see in the before a lot of movement and that's going to change dramatically in the after as we go through these speed bumps there's going to be a lot of pushing and pulling and up and down movement on that tongue and this anti-rail device really helps to take care of that. You see the few situations where this is going to come in really handy but you can come up with your own, too. Whether it's a seat that you've got back there and you just want to make sure that's isolated. Something me and my friends use this for a lot is when we're off roading for our cargo carriers, we don't want that movement. We don't want that play. Especially when you're going side to side it can get uncomfortable. And this has been one of the best solutions I found. Now, one thing I will say about that is that when we put that pressure in and when we bring that pressure in, if we're doing a lot of up and down movement, it doesn't isolate all of that. It makes it much more difficult for the item to move. But let's say if you have a tow bar behind your motor home, I don't know that this Curt anti-rattle is going to keep that up and down isolated just because the vehicle there is going to be so heavy. In that situation I recommend the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch. The Quiet Hitch is going to come around and it does an excellent job of isolation. In heavier duty applications that's definitely one of my favorites. We also have a tool free option from lets go arrow that's going to thread in very similar to this. It has an insert that fits inside the hollow shank very similar to this, but instead of having to use a wrench or a tool to tighten the bolt down, you'll just spin it in and it has a lever lock. We've got good options out there. Those would be two I would recommend. Also if you have a solid shank item, that Quiet Hitch will work where the let's go arrow or the Curt won't. But all in all I really like this one. I use it all the time, and I think for light to medium applications, it's going to be an excellent choice.

Stop a rattling bike rack, cargo carrier, or other hitch-mounted accessory from making noise with this anti-rattle kit. Just fit the bracket inside your accessory's hollow shank and secure it with the threaded bolt. This is a universal anti-rattle kit, whether you have a Curt brand hitch or not (just bend the tab out of the way and it’ll fit inside). As long as your hitch is hollow, this will fit inside and keep it from rattling. I purchased a 2” Etrailer brand hitch extender (Item #80307) and this anti-rattle fits perfectly inside once you bend the little tab out of the way. Sure beats all the other $35+ options.
I just installed this simple and inexpensive device. Annoying problem solved. I use a 2" hollow Curt Hitch with a reducer bar to hold my 1 3/8" Yakima bike tray rack. The reducer was loose in the Curt hitch. After installing the kit no more rattle. BTW using the reducer bar also allows me to open the rear gate when the bike rack is vertical. Very handy.
It does exactly what it is supposed to do. I only needed the bolt, lock washer and clip. I already had the bracket. Installing the bolt was a little difficult. I painted a line on the bar that goes into the receiver to help line up the hole.
Tried to use on 2014 Tundra. The Bolt/pin length is not long enough. When fully tightening through receiver pin hold the pin end with safety clip barely sticks past the receiver to enable installation of the safety pin. I couldn't use it. The receiver is standard 2" so this doesn't make sense. Curt should increase the pin length as well as the size of the safety clip and respective clip hole. The clip is too small/weak. If etrailer has a updated larger version I would appreciate a replacement. What I received was a waste of money.
This Kit works, if your like me having a constant noise from the trailer receiver is annoying while driving. much safer than a loose hitch pin that could come out. Great design,
This was great. I wasn't going to pull a trailer right away but I was going to use the hitch to extend my trunk space and I was concerned about the noise associated with trailer hitches on cars on long road trips. This little jule took care of all the slack in the hitch and basket. I bought two of these (one for the hitch and one for the adapter that lifted the basket a little higher). I would buy them again.
The hub and drum kit that I ordered was perfect everything went together as planned and my boat trailer is ready to use. The videos were very explicit and right to the point. How ever I order a 22321 Curt anti-rattle kit for my 2 inch hitch so I thought after watching the video which was not very well explained at all it should have shown someone putting this part on the hitch itself not just talk about it it does not fit my receiver and for $10 to try and get the right part I am not going to send it back the shipping would cost more than the part. My hitch is a standard Dodge Ram truck with a 2 inch by 2 inch insert that has a little play in it when inserted I was just trying to get the rattle noise out of it. This accessory said right on it for 2 inch with a picture and arrows pointing to square box. Thanks
This anti rattle is intended to be inserted into a hollow shank accessory and then snugged up to the wall of the receiver tube on your OEM Ram hitch. My recommendation for an anti-rattle his the Roadmaster Quiet hitch, # RM-061
Roadmaster Quiet Hitch for 2" Trailer Hitches
$27.58. It is an external anti-rattle device and costs a bit more than this item, but it has outstanding reviews from our customers.
This is the best cheap upgrade that you can make to your towing system. Completely got rid of the sway in the hitch. Very easy to install and works perfectly everytime. The finish has held up over the last year with no rust.
This device will quiet the rattle between the ball mount and the receiver. It works fine, with the only disadvantage being you have to have a wrench (I recommend 8" adjustable) to tighten it up. The only rattle you will have after installing this device will be an occasional rattle between the ball and trailer coupling. It does quiet the rattles.
Helps a lot in diminishing the rattle of the hitch ball. I just it to secure a foldable platform and it improves a lot the movement of the platform. Does not disappear it totally, but a great help.
Product works well, only complaint is the clip did not last very long - easy to fix/replace. Use this on my 4-bike carrier, does well preventing too much movement even when the carrier is fully loaded.
Used it one time and the inside shank bent so that the pin wouldn't line up any more.
This is the third time I've purchased from etrailer and have been very happy with the quality of their merchandise, the price and the speed of delivery. The website is tops. There's no surprises about anything they sell. Clear photos, complete spec's and fabulous installation videos. This is a first class organization from start to finish for the customer. If you're not a customer yet... you will be before long!!
Use this product on my Ford escape for one year and worked perfectly, no rattle at all.Great! Using it now on my F150
This anti-rattle kit is great. It’s simple to install and worked much better than I expected.
The anti-rattle adapter needed one small modification to use within the 2" hitch extender I bought and that was to bend the small tab 180 degrees from original to allow insertion to the hitch pin hole. The product was excellent and performs its intended function superbly.
Trailer pulls a thousand times better with no jiggle or rattle at all....was a little concerned about the pin portion being so much smaller than the receivers hole and basically pulling trailer with only the threaded end of the pin (other end basically floats in the hole)....however, appears to be stout and have no issues pulling a 4000 lb camper.
Installed this anti rattle hitch pin in a bike rack that flopped back and forth during travel. The pin stopped all bike rack movement and for a very reasonable price. I would recommend for anyone not needing a locking anti rattle device.
Loosens up not comfortable that it secures on one side hitch how about other hole for towing
This is the second one I have purchased. One for my bike rack and the other for my trailer hitch. Love these things. They keep every think tight and riddle free.
Good product, took all wobble out of a hitch extender needed for bike rack on Jeep . Easy to install, worked fine in my non Curt brand extension.
Great product, works perfectly, item did exactly what they said it would do , etrailer went out of their way to explain installation, but it wasn't really necessary, very simple installation. Curt products are top shelf, and nobody can touch etrailers prices and service.
Product works. However, description states that it is "plug and play" with Curt hitch inserts. Not so with the insert I ordered at the same time. 3 second mod to make it go. Product is fine, description is wrong, hence 4 stars
An effective and inexpensive way to prevent rattle and wobble. I used double faced tape to hold it in place prior to inserting the bolt.
