Video Transcript for Curt Anti-Rattle Hitch Clamp Review

What's going on everybody Adam here with etrailer. Today we're gonna be solving a problem if you have a 2 1/2 inch hitch and you hear this whenever you're hauling stuff around. Curt anti-rattle hitch clamp is going to take a lot of that shake and play out of your 2 1/2 inch hitch receiver. And one thing to think about whenever we're using a 2 1/2 inch hitch and using heavier ball mounts, this one can haul up to 20,000 pounds so there's a lot of weight going on this ball mount and that's really gonna cause a lot of damage. So something like this is gonna be very helpful to prolong the life of your hitch. It's an extremely simple design, you're not gonna need any tools or anything, and what we wanna do is take that accessory out real quick and slide this over for now.

And put this back in there, put your accessory nice and locked in your hitch. Place that pin if you want, and our goal here is we're gonna have this top part on the actual accessory we are wanting to stabilize. And the bottom part is gonna go underneath this collar. You can open this up, and you can start just threading these down with your hands, you don't need a tool or anything like that. Do one side, and do the other side, and main, the main amount of tightness we're gonna get is from this left bolt just because it is somewhat difficult to get this rotated around since we do have the hitch here and of course our bumper.

This right here's still a little loose, but it's already kind of helping. Get a little bit more out of this one bolt on one side. Then you can go ahead and tighten this down, put it into place and we have a little bit, but not much at all and that is definitely gonna help keep everything nice and tight. This is gonna be most ideal for ball mounts in my opinion, with the 2 1/2 inch configuration just because there's so much weight being put on this ball mount. And since it's clamped around, it's going to be going up and down quite a lot and that's just gonna damage the inside of your receiver and of course your ball mount, but we're also gonna have one that is a two inch version.

So that's gonna be great for the cargo carriers, the bike racks, or anything else you plan on putting in your hitch, has a little bit more weight to it, and that'll keep it nice and secure so you don't hear it and your accessories don't feel it. The U bolt section of this is gonna be made of a rough and tough steel and it does have a clear coating on it so it's not going to rust away. Top is gonna be made of aluminum, so it's a nice little hybrid of both. We're not gonna see any rust going to this over time. And it's just as easy to take off as it is to put on, you just gotta loosen it up enough to where the accessory is gonna slide out.

Then you gotta pull that accessory out and simple as that. One thing you're gonna need for both the two and the 2 1/2 version of the clamp is a hitch receiver that has this little collar on the outside of it. That's what really gets that U bolt to really sit into place. If you don't have it, you can't use it I'm sorry. But we have a lot of different anti-rattle clamps on our website. A lot of them you require tools to be able to install them. This one you don't. So just be sure to check that. Let's go over some dimensions. The clamp on top is gonna be about 5 1/4 inches and we're only gonna be adding about a little less than 1/2 inch on each side of our hitch and hardly any on the bottom of our hitch. But up on top, whatever it's sitting on top of, whatever accessory it is, from the shank of that accessory to the very top it's gonna be about an inch and 7/8 of an inch. And then when we go ahead and grab this and fold it all the way up, it's gonna sit up about 5 1/8 of an inch from the bottom of the lever. Today we have it facing up like this, but if it works best for you you have one other option. And you can go ahead and have it upside down like this. But in the same exact way, just flips upside down. It'll work just as well for some other applications but remember, whenever you're doing this you wanna lift up on the accessory to get it nice and tight and then clamp it down. And this is just all for whatever situation you might have a little bit more use out of when it's upside down. So just know you have that option. All in all, I always recommend that you put some sort of anti-rattle device on whatever accessory device you put inside your hitch. And when it comes to the bigger hitch receivers and the heavier set ball mounts, I definitely recommend it. This one's really nice just because you don't really need any tools to install it and that's always quicker and easier. And that's gonna do it for a look at the Curt anti-rattle hitch clamp..

This Curt clamp works as advertised and after installing it upside down to clear the Canyon bumper cover, it was a cinch to adjust and provide anti-rattle protection for my hitch. It is very easy to install and tighten without the use of a single tool. Great product!

Installation was straightforward and easy to follow. I had some help from a friend that had all of the tools for the job. We also removed the muffler to make it easier to install. It took us about 3 hours from start to finish. I used it for a cargo basket carrier and it worked great.

It could’ve been a touch wider. It fit my wife’s expedition perfectly but on my jeep JK I had to trim some metal off the hitch to get it to fit properly properly.

I have a small neutrally ballanced trailer that would rattle the hitch quite badly. This clamp is easy to use and effective. I am happy I made the purchase.

Took the rattle out of towing my utility trailer.

I gave this product one star only because it did not work out for my application. There was not enough space between the collar on the trailer hitch and the rise on the accessory shank of the ball mount to twist the clamp tight enough to secure it. I can’t return the item because it got scuffed up while trying to install it.

Nice product! With minimal adjustment I had all the slop taken out of the hitch. Only reason this is not a 5 star is that it would be nice if there was some kind of catch to keep the latch closed. Not sure if that will be an issue or not.

  • How To Prevent A Bike Rack That Wobbles While Driving
Some wobble is unavoidable with bike racks like the Saris Superclamp # SA4025F. To help limit the wobble, you can use this anti rattle # C27UR. I've used it and it works really well especially for vertical movement. If you haven't already, double check all the bolts on the carrier and when you're tightening down the anti rattle bolt that comes with the rack be sure to wiggle the rack up and down when tightening it.

  • Is Stabilizing Strap Needed For Curt Hitch C13206 or Will Clamp be Okay
Thanks so much for your purchase, and I can tell you that the Curt Cam Buckle Stabilizing Strap # 18050 is not a requirement for use with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13206. While Curt does recommend the use of the strap, it is not needed in order to maintain the warranty. A clamp is an excellent idea for stability, so definitely continue to use a clamp like the etrailer Anti-Rattle Hitch Stabilizer # e99007 or Curt Anti-Rattle Hitch Clamp # C27UR.

To go with the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13316 on your 2011 BMW X3 I recommend the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter # C59236. This powered converter will connect to the battery for the power that goes to the trailer lights. This will prevent the vehicle wiring from being overloaded due to the excess draw that a non powered converter will cause. The Draw-Tite QSP Trailer Hitch Silencer and Cover # 63080 is only designed to be used on Draw-Tite 2" Receivers. I have seen customer...
