Video Transcript for Gen-Y Hitch Receiver Anti-Rattle Clamp Review

Colin: Hey guys, Colin here at etrailer. Today, I'm going to take some time to show you guys the Gen-Y Anti-Rattle Clamp for any hitch mounted accessory that you might have. There's going to be three different sizes, we have all three of them set up. We have our inch and a quarter over there on our sedan, we have our two inch receiver on our half-ton pickup, and then we have our two and a half inch receiver on our three-quarter-ton pickup. We'll start by looking at the one on our two and a half inch receiver. They're all going to work the same, but they are different sizes.

We just wanted to give you a good look so you can match what's going to work with your vehicle. Now basically all it is, is a wedge on the outside of the bracket right here. This goes over the shank of your hitch accessory, whether it's a ball mount, bike rack, or even a cargo carrier, then the wedge just goes inside your hitch receiver a little bit. If you have trouble getting it in there, you can use a rubber mallet, just softly tap it in there. And then once you tighten up the Allen bolt on the top right here, and there's another one on the bottom side, that's just going to take away any rattling inside your hitch. We all know with these nice Gen-Y ball mounts and any other ball mount or cargo carriers you might use, they won't come with anti-rattle bolts.

So this is a nice and simple solution to take out that rattling, so you don't have to hear it while you're traveling. One thing I do want to point out is that if you're planning on using a two-inch shank, whether it be a ball mount or a cargo carrier on your two and a half inch hitch receiver, then this will not work that application. Because you do have to use that adapter sleeve to convert it from a two and a half inch receiver down to a two inch. And the one for the two and a half inch hitch sits over two and a half inch shanks, it's not small enough to fit over a two inch shank. Now over here, you can see with our two inch receiver, it's just a little bit smaller fits over our ball mount very nicely, and just wedges in there. Again, we'll shake it and show you it's really not moving at all.Now we're over here on our inch and a quarter receiver which is our standard ball mount, it's very small.

Sometimes with these inch and a quarters, it may be tough to get it in there. But like I said, if you needed a rubber mallet or something just to tap it in, you can do so. But as you can see again, no rattle in the hitch. Now, what I can do for you is go ahead and loosen this up so that you can see what that ball mount does without the anti-rattle clamp. So we'll just go ahead and loosen it.

So we got it loosened like that, now you can see a lot of play in there and it might not be noticeable when you're not towing anything. But honestly, I have done some towing with this Passat right here and virtually anything you put on is going to move the car around just because it's not built for towing anything too heavy. So anytime I stop or accelerate I can hear it go back and forth, and side to side when I'm turning. They're all going to have a really nice, durable steel construction, so it's going to last a long time and be very durable. And it's got a black powder coat finish, which helps it resist rust and corrosion. So if he leaves your ball mount or other accessory installed in your hitch for long periods of time, it'll do well through the elements. Now, it's very easy to install. Just grab your accessory you're going to mount into your hitch and then grab your sleeve, we'll slide that over the shank of our receiver. If you need to loosen up those bolts a little bit, go ahead and do so, so that it'll fit over the shank. So now we'll take our accessory, in this case our ball mount, and feed it into our hitch receiver. Now we'll just insert our pin and get the clip on there as well. Now from here, what we're going to do is, see how the wedge is on the left side and the top We're going to push down and pull our shank to the right, so that we can get the wedge inside our hitch receiver. Once you get it in there, you can hand tighten the Allen bolts right there and then grab the included tool. And tighten it up the rest of the way, and make sure you tighten both of them up. Now the bolt is tightened up, you can see there's no play in the shank of our hitch. So now we can get the rest of our Gen-Y ball mounts installed so we can hook up and tow.Well, thank you all for watching, and I hope this information helped you guys out. But that's going to do it for our look at the Gen-Y Anti-Rattle Clamp for the inch and a quarter, two inch, and two and a half inch receivers.

Gen-Y Anti-Rattle Clamp for 2" Hitch Receivers - 325-GH-033

Use this anti-rattle device to keep your hitch-mounted accessory from rattling in your receiver. For use with 2" receivers. Slide over accessory's shank, insert shank into hitch receiver, then tighten down corners with included wrench.

It works for a local utility trailer I have for trips around town, but I put one on my hitch for pulling my 3000 lb RV cross country last year and the metal deformed from the heavier trailer and distance.

Purchased to replace an anti rattle device that would not fit my new vehicle. This device fits snugly. Had to grind a weld on drawbar for perfect fit. I also recommend using loctite on the set screws. This works well.

Excellent. One piece machined unit, not some sheet metal welded on. Very good quality.

Works excellent. Used it on a 2200 mile towing trip of a Yamaha 242S last summer and there was not a peep from the hitch.

This product was useful to eliminate clunking between the hitch shank and the receiver. It is essentially an adjustable wedge between the shank and receiver, but I did find that it was not sufficient to simply slip it on and tighten the set screws. A few gentle whacks with a rubber hammer to coax it into the gap before tightening the screws and it worked perfectly.

There was a confusing array of products to accomplish this and some were quite pricey. I chose this one because it was simple and inexpensive. It does the job.

Finally, kudos on etrailer's prices, selection, delivery time and customer support. A great company to deal with.

No issues, still fine a year later!
Clifford M - 06/02/2020

This inexpensive accessory is the greatest thing for SUV's that doesn't have a solid frame like a pickup, the noise reduction from ball mount chatter in the reciever is reduced to zero

Still works like it did when I first installed it.
Steven L - 07/01/2021

Comes loose and doesn't do its job. Not sure if it's an issue with my receiver hitch (it's a regular 2"), or the product. But overall it's not been worth it.

This little item solved a big problem. This has stopped the rattle in my hitch. it does fit extremely tight and because my hitch is short it barely fits between the gap of the ball holder and the hitch. It does stay on permanently which is nice but I do have to carry a rubber hammer to get it in and out of the receiver to allow the locking pin to go in and out. Its totally worth it. I now have the multi pro lift gate so the hitch must come out when I finish pulling my boat. the trailer is silent now when I start and stop, instead of the jarring rattle that was the norm.

Hammered it in place with a rubber mallet and locked down the screws. Bike rack is sturdy. Works great!

It has been a year since purchasing the trailer hitch extension. I am still very satisfied with the purchase. It is rust free and remains solid.
Rick - 08/07/2020

This little gismo is incredible. Worth every penny. Have had a few of those Chinese ones, made of cheap steel and bend when one tries to tighten the bolts

great product and better help. thank you

Had to modify my Ball Mount slightly for proper fit, but it works great!

Works well and I have had no problems with it.

Have approached several RV an Tow experts for a solution to a car/motorcycle tow combination for months. Came across Etrailer on the Internet, and “asked their expert” for a suggestion. They suggested a heavy duty dual receiver that was substantial enough to accommodate any tow combination requirements. Their advice was “dead-on” right, and I ordered the parts and they were delivered a few days later.

Their expertise is excellent, as is the ease of doing business with them. I can enthusiastically recommend this organization, and the professionals working with them!

Product was very effective at eliminating "clunking" due to slop between my receiver and hitch. One hint I found effective was to firmly seat the clamp with a hammer and drift. My only knock against this product was the finishing was a bit rough (sharp/rough edges on some corners), but this did not effect function in any way.

It was a great idea, but it didn't work with my hitch. No matter how we wiggled it in, it just wasn't the right fit. I feel the issue was more our bike rack than anything. Maybe a trailer would be a more successful fit.

The anti rattle clamp works when it is snug and tight against the hitch. Trouble is, it does it stay tight and I constantly have to readjust and tighten the set screws which are not easy to get at. I would not get this again.

Instructions could be a little better with this product. Took some doing. Hopefully will reduces slack and rattle with hitch shank.

When I slide it over my bike rack it will not fit into 2 inch receiver I did read some reviews said they had a Hammer it maybe I’ll try that

This seems to have stopped the rattle of the hitch on my jeep.
Prompt delivery and easy to install.
Thank you very much!

Perfectly! This is a great quality product.

Tried this out to stop the rattle of the hitch over bumps. Did not really fit well with the hitch/receiver, had to hammer it in with rubber mallet and it still stuck out from the reciever about 75%. Worked ok to stop the rattle, but looked ridiculous. Then if you towed anything it would always come loose making the hitch rattle even more as it spun on the hitch. Took it off and tried to return it but was unable to because 'it had been used'. I would not recommend this product.

Do NOT buy this product. I does not work at all. I couldn't get it to stay on when moving the hitch only with my hand.

There are far better anti rattle hitches out there. This one didn't do a very good job of what it is made for. Didn't fit into the hitch well.

Good if there is not much space on the hitch bar, but it requires a fair amount of play between between the receiver and the hitch to drive home the wedges.

etrailer was very helpful, suggesting alternatives when their supplier did not provide my item to them on time. Eventually, I chose a different item. Everything then arrived correctly and accurately. Thanks! Excellent selection and descriptions.

  • Can the Gen-Y 10" Adjustable 2-Ball Mount Be Used for Towing and a Hitch Carrier
The Gen-Y Adjustable 2-Ball Mount part # 325-GH-325 can be used for both towing and hitch mounted accessories at the same time. That said, the ball mount would likely need to be in one of the bottom two holes with the hitch mounted accessory in the top. In regards to weight, it has a very high 1,500 lb rating so as long as the tongue weight of the trailer and weight of the hitch mounted accessory are below this you will be fine. It's built like a tank so you should not have any concerns...
