AJ: What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at the Malone Anti-Rattle System. You can see, we got a ball mount set up here. What this does is it takes the shake and play out of the ball mount or cargo carrier or bike rack when you're going on the road. You see that movement. You got a little bit up and down, side to side.
It makes a lot of noise, kind of annoying, and you don't want to hear that stuff while you're towing. So we're going to install this on here and show you how much it takes away. Now, there's two ways we can get this done. You can drop the U-bolt down, add the plate, and try and get the hardware on while the ball is still in the hitch here, or you can do it this way, which I found to be a way easier. You kind of assemble it here, and then we're going to slide it on the ball mount. We added our washer, our lock nut, and our nut, as you can see at the very bottom.
We just kind of got it started, leave it loose so you can do this and pull the ball mount out. Slide it on that way. Then line up your hole. It's way easier than trying to get down here and hold the lock nut and the washer and then add the nut. I just found this easier, and it's quicker too once you get it set up.
I mean, it's going to be easy to transfer this to a cargo carrier or a bike rack.Once we've got it on our ball mount, let's throw our pin back in too. Now, we're going to tighten it down. Now, when you put this bottom plate on there, make sure that the part that's going up is going up and around the lip of your hitch. Go ahead and hand tighten this down before I start using the ratchet. Do it evenly or as evenly as you can.
Now ready for the ratchet. With it fully tied down, let's check it out. As you can see, I'm shaking the whole truck here. This ball mount's not moving anymore. With it installed, we can take a closer look at it. You've got the heavy-duty construction U-bolt right here on top with a black powder coat finish plate on the bottom. So that means they're going to hold up when you leave them on the back of your truck. You don't have to worry about weather or anything like that eroding it and causing rust. It'll be fine. I like the simplistic design because you know how it works and how it fits on there very easily. Some of the other ones, there's a bunch of moving other little parts and it limits you on what kind of shanks you can use. This one goes along the outside of the shank so you're not limited to hollow shanks. The anti-rattle hitch pin has a little block with a spring on the inside that has to go into hollow shank, and you have to line that up.That's just, it's a lot going on. Not to mention again, limits you on what shanks you can use it on, and if you lose that block with a spring on it, you have to buy a new one from online or something like that. That's not going to be at your hardware store. If you lose the hardware on this one, it's an easy trip to the hardware store to get the nut, the lock washer or the washer. With our etrailer aluminum cargo carrier installed, we're going to add the anti-rattle device and see how much shake and play it takes out of it. As you can see, it being aluminum light, it moves around a whole bunch here in the back of your hitch. Let's get the anti-rattle device installed and see what it does. With it fully tightened down, let's check it out. Oh yeah. Moves way less than it did before. That just shows you that a simple design works. So whether you're using it with a cargo carrier or a bike rack or a ball mount, it's going to get the job done. That does it for our look at the Malone Anti-Rattle Device. Hope this helped..

I put the trailer hitch "tightener" on my distribution hitch that had a lot of movement, the slight 1/16 in movement left/ right /up/ down made a lot of noise and contributed to my trailer swaying. Once I installed it, in under ten minutes, I could not budge the hitch at all making for a nice tight fit, no noise, no added sway. I highly recommend this for anyone hauling heavy trailers for any distance.
I had to add a hitch extender on my wrangler for my bike rack to clear the spare. This caused a lot of play and the rack would bounce side to side on certain bumps and it made me nervous. I ordered this to stop the play in the extender and it did exactly that, it’s rock solid now. It was a little difficult to fit, but that was due to how close everything was with my extender and the factory hitch. But I got it to work and it’s solid as a rock now. Parts seem very sturdy and high quality! I’ve made multiple purchases from etrailer now and their service is always top notch with prompt shipping!
I am very satisfied with this setup supplied by etrailer.com. FYI, don't skimp on getting this little (heavy duty) part as it keeps the racket down in the back. It can actually be considered a necessity in my opinion as without it there's a whole lot of clankin' and bangin' goin on without it. Just sayin. Thanks folks (at etrailer.com)
The anti rattle device pictured has a 1/2" U-bolt and the plate is 5/16" thick which makes it a very stout (meaning "not flimsy") tool for making the ball mount and receiver hitch into a one piece unit eliminating that clunking and rattling normally heard when starting, stopping and going over bumps. It's another example of how something so simple can be so useful. Since installing it, I've used the trailer on several runs and no longer have that rattling sound telescoping through the tow vehicle. I do consider it's purchase "money well spent for a quality product".
I recommend Etrailer to anyone needing ANYTHING pertaining to trailers and hitches. These anti rattle brackets stopped all the noise coming from the back of our motorhome. I had to use an 18 inch extension which by the way is a BEAST and needed two anti rattle brackets. No more rattles! Etrailer suggested them and didn't try to sell me anything else. Really admire this company!
I found this to be the best product to get rid any play in a receiver type hitch. Very stout!
I can’t believe how much quieter it is pulling my boat now! Very easy installation, less than 5 minutes! You guys need to advertise these more, put them on your front page. I never knew they existed, until my fishing buddy ordered one 2 weeks ago.
Works great - no problems! I use it on my bike hitch/rack - no more rattling.
It works great and the best part is my wife is happy with how quiet the hitch is now.
No more rattle. Nice tight connection with RV, trailer, bike rack!
Works well. Put it on dog steps and now the annoying rattle is gone. took like 5 seconds to install.
Solid! Took rattles out of the Chevy hitch, which they are known for!
I bought this because of the sloppy connection of my receiver hitch and the tongue of the trailer making so much noise when driving down the road. Besides being a very easy install, it has done a great job of holding the trailer tongue tight from making banging noise. The only improvement I made to it was buying lock nuts with the nylon liners instead of using split ring lock washers. I'm very pleased in that it made a huge positive difference. Also, I've always had huge success with anything I've purchased from etrailer.com, such as the trailer light kit with video.
Moved a large trailor full of stuff several times and the ant-iraddle hitch worked great. Would suggest this product to anyone who is interested.
Product is well made and works as advertised. I use it when towing a golf cart trailer with a drawbar that rattled. It was very annoying while riding in the vehicle even with the proper tongue weight. The product solved this problem easily, at a nominal cost, and was easy to install. Even though it came with lock washers, I added 2 additional nuts to serve as lock nuts.
Stopped all noise coming from the hitch moving around inside the receiver.
This device works !! Pulled Harley on trailer to Florida from Ohio . No rattle at all . Smooth pull . Highly recommend..
We were amazed how much quieter pulling a trailer can be.
This is exactly what I needed. It works just as described.Whats even better than the Malone Anti-Rattle is the etrailers customer service. There was a problem with the delivery and they made good and corrected the problem 10 star rating for customer service!!
Product worked as intended but my Yakima hitch mounted bike rack has a plastic shell that prevents a tight fit. This eliminated 80% of the noise but will not work in every application
Great service from etrailer and QUICK delivery! Super happy with the quality of the products and the instructional videos. I will definitely be back.
Mounted it on my hitch and it fits nicely. Have not been able to tow yet, but it looks strong and capable. I'll give it 4 stars until I use it.
Quick delivery and very high quality. The plate is heavy and should be very durable. Works well to remove the rattle in my hitch just as advertised.
etrailer has been great to work with. I had mix up with my order and their customer service was awesome! ET’s how-to videos made installation about as clear as it coIuld be. I have the receiver installed and I am eager to get the tow-on the road.
Research them all - Then buy this one. Easy to install, Tightens securely the first time, and Stays tight.
