Video Transcript for Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock System Review

What's up everybody it's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna checking out the Malone Anti-Rattle HitchLock device. And what this is gonna do is just gonna go on your ball mount or the shank of a bike rag, or even a cargo carrier. And it helps stabilizes it. So you can see right here with this ball mount moves around a whole bunch. Once I install that, that movement's gonna be gone.

Let's check it out. So with just the pin in let see how much movement we have in our ball mount. And so I'm gonna show you how to fix that and then install our device. So you're gonna take the Anti-Rattle plate here the flat part's gonna sit at the bottom of the hitch and the part that's angled up will push up on the ball mount push it in to place once we tighten it down. So let's drop our U-bolt through.

Then we'll put our flat washer, lock washer, and nut at the bottom. And we're gonna do that on both of them. So we're gonna get hand tight to help hold it on there. I'll do the same thing On the other side. Come back with a ratchet.

You continue to tighten it down. Let you do it evenly. Go back and forth. You don't wanna do one. Tighten one way more than the other.

Looks pretty good right there. Now I'm gonna shake the whole vehicle back and forth. You see there's no rattling or movement whatsoever in the ball mount. Now with that installed, that was just an easy way to show you how it takes the movement out of the ball mount with it, the you bolt here pulling down and this pushing up against there at the same time it takes all that movement out of there. Malone says that you can put it upside down if you need to for clearance issues. So we did that here on my hitch, and it actually seems like it got a little bit more behind the hitch. So it seems like it might work better for me this way. So that is an option. If you have clearance issues like I did. So the safety chain loops kind of get away at the bottom. So that full plate can't go all the way back. This one seems a little more sturdy. Now I threw a cargo carrier in the hitch, just to see, this has got a lot of movement up and down so that Anti-Rattle pin's in there. It does not move side to side at all, but that up and down we're gonna try and take care of it by adding that device on there. But first, we're gonna drive around the parking lot and see how bad it looks before we install it. Now we've shown it on a two inch hitch with a two inch cargo carrier and a two inch ball mount, but it can also work with inch and a quarter. So if that's your hitch size and that's accessory you would use it for, you can use it with that too. With installed on the cargo care. It worked out really well. There's not a lot of movement up and down. It really stabilized it. You could definitely see it when we we're going down the bumps. I think it's gonna be nice for any of those accessories. Like the ball mount, , even a bike rack. You just want a little more stability. You don't like that up and down movement. It's gonna help eliminate that. And, it's really easy to install and take back off. It's not a permanent thing. You just make sure to have a ratchet to tighten it down. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out. Hope This helped..

KISS: Keeping it simple. I just love it when a simple-to-install, simple-to-use product does exactly what it says it will do. And what a difference it makes! After cringing to each creak and rattle coming from my trailer hitch, the installation of the The Malone Anti-Rattle Hitchlock System eliminated all of this noise. I have used this with my Iron Eagle 5 x 8 utility trailer as well as my son's multi-mountain bike rack and it has worked well with all the systems.

I had purchased a Malone Hitch Anti-Rattle Hitchlock System, and had a bit of trouble with cross threading on one side of the u-bolt. I let them know what happened, and was very surprised by their "STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT" policy. The people at Malone contacted me right away and have let me know that they are very happy to replace the damaged u-bolt. I, honestly, was very surprised having not shopped Malone products before. I HIGHLY recommend the company and the employees that work there for their politeness and their integrity. Will be checking out their products much more. Thank you Malone!

With 2 - 60 lb. bikes with bike rack Attached to the back of my RV with an extended hitch along with the anti-rattle hitch lock We traveled across the country and back secure with no sound coming from the back this was the perfect tools for the job

by:

Best money spent on a trailer hitch sys tem.

by:

I put the trailer hitch "tightener" on my distribution hitch that had a lot of movement, the slight 1/16 in movement left/ right /up/ down made a lot of noise and contributed to my trailer swaying. Once I installed it, in under ten minutes, I could not budge the hitch at all making for a nice tight fit, no noise, no added sway. I highly recommend this for anyone hauling heavy trailers for any distance.

Comments
It still works great, I never take the hitch off my truck so I do have to check the nuts before towing, but still no shifting of the trailer at all

It’s a simple product. Not sure it’s as valuable as the price but it does the job so I’m happy with it. After all these years of towing I’m amazed that I need to buy something because nobody can make receivers and hitches that fit properly. Quality sucks with receivers and hitches so we get to buy stabilizers. Having said that this one is fine.

by:

With two trips cross country towing our pop-up camper I am happy to say this Malone anti rattle hitch lock systems works 100% as one would expect us to.
There was absolutely no rattle and I felt like it took out a little sway of the camper as it tracked straight.
I highly recommend this product.

This anti-rattle hitch lock is perfect for keeping my hitch secure. Strong with a great appearance.

Couldn't change the rating on the Drawtite receiver cover. It took a while to come in because it was backordered. 5 stars now!

by:

I can’t believe how much quieter it is pulling my boat now! Very easy installation, less than 5 minutes! You guys need to advertise these more, put them on your front page. I never knew they existed, until my fishing buddy ordered one 2 weeks ago.

I employed 3 receiver-hitch accessories to enhance my existing cargo platform--an 18" hitch extension, so I could drop truck tailgate, cargo bag, and anti-rattle device. All have worked very well during trips to Arizona, Colorado, etc. I used scrap wood to build a box to support the bag. I'm satisfied with the bag, it's been water- and dust-proof, and the zipper seems to be heavy duty. Anti-rattle device works well. etrailer was very helpful in defining appropriate receiver extension length and weight capacity--critical to safe usage, and very complicated to calculate. The only limitation now is that unlike some high-end bike racks that have a few inches of rise in the platform/rack, the potential for my platform to drag on uneven surfaces (drive ways, 4wd trails, etc.) is a challenge. I perceive the "problem" to be that most accessories that could provide adequate rise in the platform will also reduce weight capacity of platform. Ideas welcome! I'm also using an 8" hitch extension to allow use of tailgate while towing a small camping trailer.

Comments
You cannot use an extension and a riser at the same time, unless they are built together. The closest riser we have to the 18 inch you need is this item # MT70070
MaxxTow Dual Hitch Extender for 2" Trailer Hitches - 12" Long
$46.12
which is 12 inches long but it gives you a 6 inch rise, assuming you have a 2 inch hitch receiver. You can only use the bottom opening for towing your trailer but you can use the top opening for your cargo box. All extensions will cut the weight capacity in half. In this case, the 400 tongue weight would to 200 for the cargo box. I would get a roof rack and put half of my luggage on it just so you do not run into any weight capacity issues.

This type of device works if you don't have a J-Pin capable hitch. J-Pin is the best anti-rattle device for hitch receivers, but not every receiver can accommodate the J-Pin. In that case, this device works.

by:

I have ordered three different receiver hitches and accessories from etrailer and have never had any problems, very satisfied with his company and every aspect of the sale to delivery to the installation directions they help with. Highly recommended

by:

Very easy installation thanks to the detailed video etrailer puts together for each of their products.

by:

The anti rattle device pictured has a 1/2" U-bolt and the plate is 5/16" thick which makes it a very stout (meaning "not flimsy") tool for making the ball mount and receiver hitch into a one piece unit eliminating that clunking and rattling normally heard when starting, stopping and going over bumps. It's another example of how something so simple can be so useful. Since installing it, I've used the trailer on several
runs and no longer have that rattling sound telescoping through the tow vehicle. I do consider it's purchase "money well spent for a quality product".

by:

Delivered on expectations. Eliminated sway on my six bike hitch mounted rack.

by:

Works perfectly as stated my hitches don't move don't Rattle and it actually acts as a kind of anti-theft device because someone needs a three-quarter inch wrench to get my hitch off which is good. Very happy with the purchase

by:

Didn't work as expected

Comments
I am sorry to hear that it did not work as it is supposed to. Can you give more details on how it did not work? I would be happy to see if I can help.

An awesome addition to our hitch! Pulling our different trailers the 'clunk' from either stopping or starting is non existent now thanks to this small but significant addition. Shipping was quick, as usual, and the customer service personnel were great in understanding our needs as our past orders through etrailer are in the historical database. Thank you for all you do!

by:

I am very satisfied with this setup supplied by etrailer.com. FYI, don't skimp on getting this little (heavy duty) part as it keeps the racket down in the back. It can actually be considered a necessity in my opinion as without it there's a whole lot of clankin' and bangin' goin on without it. Just sayin.

Thanks folks (at etrailer.com)

by:

This product is a must for a variable height hitch. No more clunking when towing my trailer! It is also very easy to install and remove.

by:

Exactly what i need.
Shipping time was
very fast.
I would recommend etrailer as the place to shop.

  • Anti-Rattle Adapter Recommendation For Curt Hitch When Using Adapter
The anti-rattle adapter I recommend is the No-Rattle Trailer Hitch Wedge, part # MPG908. This will work for 1-1/4 inch and 2 inch receivers and is designed to insert into the small gap that may exist on your receiver. You then tighten it up after it has been installed on the hitch pin as the attached photo shows. This should reduce the rattle and movement you have been having.
