I didn't think it was going to work when I first tried it, but realized that I was putting it on backwards. I knew my hitch was noisy but WOW. This thing completely stopped all the clanking and rattling.

- MT70258
by:

Was a quick fix for wiggly clanking problem I had took about 3 minutes to install works great

- MT70258
by:

This is an awesome product and works extremely well! No rattles at all from my PWC trailer! This company has always been extremely good to buy from with my hitch, wiring harness and now this anti rattle device.

I think it’s a great little invention, The only change I would make… In fact I did make that change is to change the bolts from a zinc plated to stainless steel. After all, it’s gone just sit outside all the time. But other than that, it’s perfect

- MT70258
by:

This is a simple yet effective device to stiffen a receiver mounted device reducing or eliminating any slight wobble. However, my GMC receiver has a welded bead around the outside (presumably to reinforce) and I have to regularly tap the device back and re-secure the bolts. This may be unique to GMC.

I’m very glad I bought it. Only two things wrong with it. 1 it’s made in China. 2 if you have a drop hitch like I do, you might have to cut a notch in the bottom where the gusset hits the clamp preventing the stinger from going in far enough to insert the hitch pin. Other than those two things it works great. My hitch has NEVER been quieter and stable. Very satisfied with the results.

Comments
Still a great investment even though it’s made in China.

Got this for use with etrailers motorcycle carrier. If you'll be carrying heavy items this is a must.Quiets and helps stabilize whatever you're carrying. For lighter loads the Draw tite anti rattle and cover works well enough.I got both for the conveince.

by:

Third one I have owned. Works well if placed and tightened in the right location.

Comments
Put it on the shelf fro your newer anti-rattle device whihc works well. I had the same issues as most with the bolts walking and not getting it tight enough to stay in place.

Works great. Use it on my camper bike r ack.

Your product has a couple of structural defects: 1. With the bolts on the bottom, when the vehicle goes through a dip in the road, the bottom of the bolts grinds on the road. Your bolts are too long. 2. With the bolts on the bottom, when I went through a dip in the road and they scraped the asphalt, the result was a broken weld. Having China make your product is not a good idea. 3. With the bolts on the bottom, the tips of the bolts are about 1 3/4" below the bottom of the vehicle's receiver. The bolts should be on the top. But that is not the way the setup is pictured. So I like your product's potential, but not the way it is engineered or designed.

Comments
If you are interested another anti-rattle device that does not have the clearance issues and as a little different design is the RM-061.

doesn't fit very well on my ford factory hitch with a weld on the edge keeps slipping off.

- MT70258
by:

Product is simple and effective...... performs as described. Only consideration is if there is a substantial "bead" of weld at the end of the receiver tube since this is where the bolts will bite into when tightened and if the bead is large enough, it presents a rounded surface rather than a flat one for the bolts to bite into potentially causing a "walking" situation.

Comments
Did have to finally grind the landing zones for the tightening bolts flat, but its in place and performs well. Ends that nasty rattling!

Just on of those things you just have to have. Locks my Cargo Rack soilded to my hitch. Traveling down the the road you can't feel the rack moving at all. Well made and easy to install.

- MT70258
by:

Very easy to install and remove. Solves rattle problem with hitch. Excellent service and fast shipping.

- MT70258
by:

Bolts need to be back farther so they are behind the metal lip around reciever

- MT70258
by:

Looks like a good product but it did not fit on my 2018 Jeep Compass. Could not install it with bolt side down because the part of the Jeeps hitch where you attach safety chains to where too close to the receiver opening. I could only install it with bolts on top, but even then, it could fit over the receiver very well. The bolts were on the outer lip of the receiver and gauged the lip pretty good because it has a rounded lip instead of a flat lip. Not happy about that, but it did prevent rattling for the trip however, it looked like it was about to fall off. I ordered something else and will not use this one on my vehicle again.

- MT70258
by:

My hitch has a lip on the edge that makes it impossible to guarantee it will not vibrate off. The bolts tighten onto the lip instead of behind it, where it would work best to keep it from vibrating anywhere. Depending on the trip distance and trailer load weight it sometimes remains in place the entire time. Until I find a better one I will keep using this.

- MT70258
by:

Works exactly as described: no rattle from trailer hitch insert. Five minute s of less to install.

- MT70258
by:

The welds broke the first time I used it. Unfortunately, I didn't use it right away, so the 90 day manufacturer warranty expired, so customer service basically said I was out of luck. I followed all the rules, I wasn't towing anything, I didn't overload it, it just broke when we were traveling down the road. Very disappointing, but I am thankful that at least we made it home safely and didn't hurt anyone. Safe traveling!

- MT70258
by:

I have a double hitch installed on my Class C motorhome for my bike rack and my Blue Ox to tow the car. I installed 2 of these and they completely eliminated all the movement in the assembly. I also added a Quiet Hitch Pin for the top receiver that did not have a lip. It also works perfectly. Thanks for great products!

- MT70258
by:

Product seems well made, solid and seems to holding the hitch receiver steady - no more knocking or bike rack wobbling coming from the back end! Will update after further use. Fast shipping and great service from etrailer as always!

- MT70258
by:

It has been a great addition to my Jeep Wrangler for carrying extra cargo when traveling. It is easy to assemble and install.

- MT70258

I am verry happy with the Product. It take a bit to get used to it on mounting it to the welded ring on the hitch to keep it from sliding off. Ones installed, it will keep the Bike Racke from ratteling.

Ask the Experts about this MaxxTow Hitch Anti-Rattle

  • Can MaxxTow Anti-Rattle Clamp # MT70258 be Used with a Travel Trailer
The MaxxTow Anti-Rattle Clamp # MT70258 is an accessory anti-rattle device so provided you are using it on the back of your travel trailer in a hitch mounted accessory, such as a cargo carrier, you will be good to go. But it is not rated for use on the tow vehicle for towing a trailer. If that is what you are looking for I recommend the similar Pro Series device # PS63091. I have linked videos of both devices for you.

  • Recommended Anti-Rattle Device to Use for Trailer Towing
I do have a solution for you, however the MaxxTow Anti-Rattle Clamp # MT70258 referenced in your question is not recommended for use when towing a trailer. This particular device is designed to be used with hitch-mounted accessories like bike racks and cargo carriers. A better option will be with the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061 as long as the 2 inch hitch receiver on your Silverado has a ring or collar around it. This will simply slide over the shank of your ball mount and the U-bolt...

  • Does MaxxTow Anti-Rattle Device # MT70258 Fit Hitch Openings with Collar

  • Recommended Anti-Rattle Device for Towing Boat Trailer
While we do have anti-rattle devices that are designed for use when towing, the MaxxTow Anti-Rattle Clamp # MT70258, as you mentioned, cannot be used for this purpose. This particular device can only be used for non-trailer loads such as bike racks and cargo carriers. For an anti-rattle device that you can use while towing your boat trailer, I recommend the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch # RM-061. This hitch immobilizer will eliminate rattle within the receiver with a simple bolt-on installation....

  • Recommended Anti-Rattle Device For 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
The MaxxTow Anti-Rattle Clamp for 2" Trailer Hitch Receivers - 2 Bolt # MT70258 fits right onto the flared surround you mentioned on the Curt Hitch Receiver attached to your 2013 Lexus RX450H. The integrated sleeve on this adapter is a great help in stabilizing your accessories for a much quieter ride. The Pro Series Anti-Rattle Device for 2" x 2" Trailer Hitch Receivers # PS63091 utilizes one bolt that will fit behind the flared surround of your hitch. Choosing between these two...

  • Anti-Rattle Device Recommendation for Setup that Uses Dual Hitch Adapter
Since the MaxxTow Anti-Rattle Clamp # MT70258 that you referenced is not designed for towing and you will be towing it would not be the best option. A better option would be the Roadmaster Quiet Hitch part # RM-061 which can be used when towing. This would work well for your setup too that has a dual recieve opening.

  • Using a Stabilizing Hitch Clamp for a 80 Pound Cargo Carrier
The MaxxTow Anti-Rattle Hitch Clamp, part # MT70258, doesn't have a specific weight range that it's designed for. The weight won't really change its installation process, though going heavier, you'll want to double check the tightness of its bolts while you're using the clamp. I do recommend installing it prior to loading anything into your accessory for easiest use and installation, then after loading, double checking the bolt's tightness. I've included a video that shows how effective...

  • Comparing MaxxTow Anti Rattle Devices MT70283 and MT70258
They both work great. The difference is the part # MT70258 does use the two bolts, has a galvanized finish, and has a longer sleeve. The part # MT70283 uses 4 bolts, is powdercoated and does not have a sleeve at all basically. If it were me I would go with the 2 bolt version as it works great, will install a bit quicker, and because it is galvanized.

  • Compatibility of Anti-Rattle Device with Weight Distribution and 2-1/2 Inch to 2 Inch Reducer Sleeve
You can use an anti-rattle to reduce the movement and noise in your trailer hitch. • What Can Help Control the Bouncing and Shaking Seen on Hitch Mounted Cargo Carriers
The bouncing and shaking that you saw in the video is the norm on the majority of cargo carriers on the market. The extended location from the hitch causes the carrier to bounce more than a hitch accessory that might sit closer to the vehicle. There are a few products that can help with the bounce. An anti-rattle device, like # MT70258 for 2 inch hitches, can help by securing the cargo carrier's hitch shank to the hitch receiver. The bolts will push the shank up tight against the top...

When a hitch carrier like this is installed and loaded up with a motorcycle (even a relatively light one like a smaller dirt bike) there will always be some rear end sag on the vehicle.
