This Curt bike rack makes it easy to carry 4 bikes on the back of your vehicle. The platform-style rack is easier to load than a hanging rack because you don't have to lift your bikes nearly as high to get them into place. Ratcheting hooks and wheel hoops accommodate 4 bikes of most shapes and sizes. The entire rack tilts down for easy access to your cargo area, even while the bikes are loaded. And and you can choose between 2 different ways to fold the rack up for storage on your vehicle when it's not in use.

Easily Converts to a 2-Bike Carrier

Carry 4 bikes on this rack for family outings, or easily convert it to a 2-bike carrier for duo or solo rides. To convert the rack to a 2-bike carrier, remove the 2 bolts that hold the outer platform inside the shank of the inner platform. Then simply slide the outer platform out of the shank and stow it in your garage or shed.

Ratcheting Frame Hooks

Each center mast has 2 ratcheting hooks that move up and down independently of one another. This allows you to carry up to 4 bikes of different heights or with different frame styles. The hooks firmly grip your bikes by the top tubes, and they are cushioned to protect your bike frames from scratches and scuffs. Once you slide the hooks into position, just lock them in place.

Adjustable Wheel Hoops

Curt platform bike rack cradles

Sturdy, adjustable wheel hoops let you carry bikes of different lengths. Use the built-in knobs to loosen the hoops. Then slide the hoops to the desired position along the platform base and tighten them into place.

Tilting and Folding Design

Curt platform bike rack in tilted position

The entire rack can be tilted down - away from your vehicle - so that you can easily access your rear cargo area, even when your bikes are loaded. Just pull the pin at the base of the rack to tilt it down.

Curt platform bike rack storage options

There are 2 ways that you can fold up the rack to store it on your vehicle when it's not in use. Option 1 lets you fold the cradle arms up towards the upright masts. Simply remove the pins and fold up the arms. Then replace the pins to secure the arms in the upright position. Option 2 lets you fold the rack up against the rear of your vehicle. First, lower the center masts by removing their pins and clips at the bases and then fold the masts down forward. Then remove the pins from the base of the rack and fold up the carrier.

Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin

Curt platform bike rack anti-rattle hitch pin

This rack comes with an anti-rattle hitch pin. The threaded pin holds the bike rack in your hitch, and it reduces noise and movement of the rack inside your hitch. Because this bike rack has a threaded shank, it is not compatible with standard hitch locks.

Great bike rack and outstanding customer service. Easy installation, sturdy bike rack and when I encountered a defective support arm, customer service had a replacement part shipped to me in less than one week. Great value and great support. You cannot get better than that.

Besides taking too long to get since being ordered in July, it is a great Curt 4 bike product......Installed it today and it works great. Curt products are made from a strong quality! My Curt hitch was installed over the Summer, ordered from etrailer and it works great also...Very happy of the outcome. Thanks.....

After being told that the carrier was a month out yet the great people of etrailer pulled some strings and I received it 3.5 weeks early! I was shocked to see it on my porch. I opened it and the construction was better than I expected. This is the second item I purchased from etrailer and I would recommend this company to anyone and I will definitely purchase more from them.

I love how this Hitch rides, very stable and tight. It cradles the bikes very well even with all four in place. It also how neat that it holds the bikes tightly together (even all 4) yet not one of them would touch. As much as i like the option to lock the bikes with the provided locking devices often these turn out to line up with some portion of the next bike that want always allow me to get the key in the device and turn it, i'll normally carry a cable lock in the event i can't secure with the provided device, no problem. The hitch is a bit heavy to carry around to place in storage or install but once in place its sweet! It has bee a pain to store, yet i would imagine pretty much any rack of this caliber would be. I'm very pleased. I wish i could find an adapter to allow me to us the back half on my 2" receiver on my truck, in the event i need to have a two bike set up in both locations. This would make them even more valuable to me. But this is a very well made solid bike rack, but its not for the faint at heart its a chore to lug around but once in place you'll appreciate its beefiness. I would and have recommended this rack to others, its worth the extra expense over the inexpensive devices i see on the road.

This is a very solid bike rack. It keeps the bike secure and separated. There is no fighting the rack to get the bikes loaded. The bikes are not blocking the view out the rear view mirror. I like that I can use it as a 2-bike rack and that it can handle 45 pound bikes. The first bike rack box was delivered with a damaged box which had the hardware bag missing. Etrailer sent a new rack which was perfect. The same UPS guy, who dropped off my new rack, picked up the old rack. The customer service is top notch. They were friendly, understanding, and willing to make sure everything was right. There were no communication barriers.

The product was shipped and received promptly via UPS. Arrived well packaged and in good condition. Assembly was easy and the bike rack is very sturdy, this being said without have taking a roadtrip with it. Allen wrench and wrench included for assembly, will need a knife to open boxes and phillips head screw driver to complete assembly. Setup and sizing for the bikes was easy and bikes feel secure when locked in place. Removing 2 bolts and this unit quickly becomes a 2-bike rack. Only negative was the weight of this unit, as a 4-bike rack this unit easily weighs 90lbs before the bikes are on and essentially requires 2 people to lower to access lift gate.

This platform bike rack worked really well for us. Installation instructions were written well. Be prepared to take your time - I put it together myself. I am a 122# female, I do work out, so the weight of the product was not a problem for me. I did attach to my hitch and put it together from there for convenience. Seemed silly to put it together and then install onto hitch since I was putting it together myself. I took about an hour or two trying to figure out the best configuration for our bicycles. Probably could take less time, but I am a perfectionist. Didn't want my precious bicycles rubbing together or being compromised in any way! I did take a picture so I could remember how I had put the bicycles, and also for my husband's reference. Now that I have it configured for our bikes, it's a snap getting bikes on and off. We used it on our beach vacation - four bikes, no problems, on the highway 12 hours there and 12 hours back. We did use the lock feature. The locks worked great with no problems. We chose to take the rack off to run our van through the car wash, and though my husband took it off his self, I would anticipate needing an extra hand to take it off myself, and certainly an extra hand to throw it back onto the hitch. We did purchase an inexpensive torque wrench for the anti-rattle bolt (instructions say to tighten to 75#). No rattling. Etrailer's video helped me choose between this rack and another, and I really understood what I was buying. Shipping/delivery was great. This review is based on ownership of less then two weeks - probably 5 rides over that span of time (so taking bikes in and out of rack that many times).

I’ll start with my review of etrailer.com: Odelia and anyone else I spoke with were amazing. Going above and beyond with helping me. Sounds like everyone there is great! I was in a time crunch to get my bike rack to get it installed before our vacation. Odelia made it happen!! I am normally somebody that tries to buy local and my local shops didn’t have the inventory but would happily buy from these guys again!! As for the rack! Perfect! Was super easy to install. Held all of our bikes perfectly fine and felt very secure during our 4 hour drive each way. Once you get the wheel widths right, it only takes a few minutes to load the bikes each time. It’s heavy, so unless you can easily carry an 80+ pound rack to insert into the slot, you’ll need another person. I feel very comfortable recommending the product and extremely happy with my service too. Only issue was that one of the arms tha My secures the bikes arrived damaged. I used a ratchet strap to secure one of the bikes in its place. I spoke with Curt manufacturing and they apologized and promised to send a new one, so expect to see that soon. But he tried to give me some options to use, and one being the ratchet strap and it was perfect. Thanks again for an incredible buying experience

We deliberated for some time whether we wanted a platform or hanging rack for our bikes. We finally settled on this rack, even though it was significantly more expensive because it seemed easier to set a bike onto a platform that muscling it onto a hanger. We haven't had a lot of use out of this rack yet, but here are some initial observations: 1. This thing is a monster! You should view the etrailer.com videos on this rack to get a feel for it. Holding 4 bikes it sets back about 5 foot from the back of the vehicle. This could lead to the risk of backing into things if you're not careful. a. One nice thing is that the last 2 slots are on a separate assembly, so you can unbolt it and leave that section at home and simply travel with 2 bikes. Makes maneuvering a bit less awkward. 2. Loading the rack is fairly easy but does take some forethought, as you have to be careful to align the bikes so they don't interfere. The first time you load bikes you might have to make a couple of attempts before you get them to fit well, so allow enough time. 3. The top holding clamps do a good job, but if you have a bike with a low top tube (the horizontal tube that goes from the front of the bike to the seat) the clamp might not hold well. Note that each vertical post has 2 clamps, try locating the bike in the other location to see if it works better. 4. Compared to a trunk mounted hanging rack the bikes seem to be more secure - they don't sway as you speed up or slow down, reducing the chance of rubbing and damaged paint. 5. The assembled rack is fairly heavy, and will likely require 2 people to easily install it into the hitch. Also note the unit is bolted into the hitch to prevent it from wiggling during travel. So again, allow ample time to install & remove. Looks like a great product, I'm excited to see how it works out.

Bought two products, hitch and this. Yet to assemble so this comment is more on the very high level of service. Quick call back to discuss what I had purchased (and issues there), discussion of what I was looking for and what would best suit needs and budget and very quick response time and turnaround.

Great Bike Rack. The assembly instructions could have been a little better. I just recommended this rack to a close friend of mine. Once everything is adjusted, loading and unloading of the bikes is very easy. Bikes are very secure.

Haven't traveled with the bike rack yet, but am already happy with a few things: 1. I ordered the bike rack around 5:30 pm on Saturday. I received an email confirmation that the rack had shipped approximately 4 hours later. 2. I was nervous that I wouldn't receive the bike rack before traveling the following Saturday, so I requested 4 day shipping. I received the bike rack on Tuesday, a day early. 3. The package arrived in perfect condition, double-packed (the bike rack box within a box). 4. I just finished putting the rack together. All instructions and pieces were included and took about an hour to assemble. I'll update this review after using the bike rack this weekend, but so far two thumbs up on the customer service and the product.

Assembly was quick and easy. The quality of the plastic sliders and the wheel hoops has already chipped and broke (×2). The twist nobs on the wheel hoops popped and seem like poor quality. Not sure how they will last after use. Dissappointed with no lockeing system once in the stinger. Other then that the design will work well for our intended use. The price and design of the hitch are sturdy.

This is my second Curt 4 bike tray style rack. My other one is about 5 years old and will now be used mostly by my son at college. I wanted the new one because the arms that hold the bike ratchet down, which is a new design compared to the old one. The old one simply clamped onto the mast and over the years the clamp gradually loosens. So I'm expecting the ratcheting clamp to be more secure. The only thing about the new one I don't like is the pins to pivot the trays now have a safety clip instead of the keyed pin on the old one. This matters to me because I store it with the trays folded up and it's easier to use with the keyed pin than the safety clip. Haven't used the new one yet but we have a road trip this weekend.

I have not opened the box as of yet. Its a Christmas present for my wife but the ordering and delivery was perfect. Box looks good so I do not expect any damages. Thanks for delivering so soon!

So, this is my one year follow-up on the Curt 4bike hauler. On a recent trip to Arkansas to ride Iron Mountain I incurred some problems. The foam rubber on the holding arm of the rack split. The foam ended up coming off, causing the arm to rub against the aluminum bike frame causing a major divot in the frame. We also lost a bike while traveling down the road. The foam came off and allowed enough space for the bike to completely come off the rack. The bike was a complete loss (bent frame). The bike rack is stored inside when not in use so dry rot is not an option. Disappointed to say the least, but that's my kind of luck.

I had just purchased this after looking at a lot of bike racks. I was replacing a hanging style bike rack that didn't work well with with both my wife and daughters "woman's" style frames and I haven't found one that I really liked. I was hoping that the hooks, on this rack, would drop low enough to securely hold their bikes. Unfortunately they did not. That being said, I purchased a couple of top tube adapters. I purchased mine from a local bike shop that carried the Thule brand. This solved the problem. Assembly of this rack was simple didn't take too much time. It is heavy and large, however I knew it would be going in. I took it on a 400+ mile trip with three bikes and had no problem whatsoever. The bikes were very stable and didn't move the entire trip and suffered no damage. Loading the bikes on this rack was quick and easy once the wheel trays are adjusted for the bikes. My mountain bike has cables that run across the top tube, so I just placed a small piece of cloth under the cables below the hook which prevented scratches. Not having a place to store the rack while I was on vacation, I left it on the back of my Tahoe. It folds up flat enough to drive around town with it and not have it get in the way. It does however make it somewhat difficult to access the rear hatch. I was able to open the glass and put small items in the back, however I had to fold it down in the carry position to use the cargo compartment for large items only a minor inconvenience. If I had had a place to store it, it is simple enough to remove from the car and could be done fairly quickly. With the bikes loaded, it does tilt down to access the rear cargo compartment, however help is needed to do this. Having only one trip with this rack I am very happy with it and would recommend it. The reason for only 4 stars (should be 4 1/2) is that I had to purchase extra items so that it would work with my bicycles. That being said, I don't think there would have been any rack on the market would have been perfect for my situation. Also some of the spring clips are somewhat difficult to clip and un-clip, but still only a minor inconvenience. As a last note, I started to order this online but had some questions. I contacted customer service and the woman I spoke with was very helpful and was able to get this rack shipped to me very quickly and I received it in just a few days. I will use etrailer for other needs in the future.

Finally had a chance to put this together. I'm very impressed with the quality. Good heavy-wall tubing, nice looking, quality welds and thick powder coating make this a very nice bike rack! One of the locks is a little sticky but will probably loosen up with use. I've only driven with it a few miles so far but the bikes seemed very secure. Would definitely recommend! Also was shipped very fast from etrailer. I ordered it at 3:30pm and by 7pm I got a email that it had shipped. Great service!

Very solid rack- My families bikes total over 160lbs and there is very little movement of the rack even on our very bumpy roads! The rack went together well except that it was necessary to file the insides of the plastic square openings of the ratcheting lock arms a little to make them able to slide up and down the post without a lot of effort. With that said- I love the way the ratcheting lock arms keep the bikes locked into the trays- the clicking noise as they ratchet down is very satisfying :) I highly recommend this product.

  • Comparing Hollywood Racks Sport Rider and Curt 4-Bike Racks
The Curt 4-Bike Platform Rack # C18087 is a fine entry-level type option for a bike rack, but when it comes to function, durability, and convenience the clear winner is the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 4-Bike Rack # HR1400Z. Starting with function and convenience, the Curt uses a threaded hitch pin that you have to deal with to secure it in the shank, while the Hollywood has a very simple handle that you turn which tightens the rack in the shank. The Hollywood is also much more...

If removing your battery puts you below 45 lb you will be able to use this rack. If that doesn't save enough weight we have several options that will work. The regular version, # C18087, accepts bike tires up to 3 inches wide. The Fat Bike version, # C18087-FB, accepts bike tires up to 4-7/8 inches wide. Other than that the bike racks are the same and function in the same way.

  • Can I Carry a Beach Cruiser on a Curt Platform Bike Rack
Yes you can carry your beach cruiser on the Curt 4 Bike Platform Bike Rack # C18087. The cradles adjust to fit different bike widths. I tested out the fat bike version of the rack # C18087-FB and used our fat bike with it. That bike measures 69-1/2" from front to rear tire and it fit just fine. The overall length doesn't change with the fat bike version just the width of the cradle to accommodate the wider tires. I attached a video I made of the fat bike version. You can see in the video...

  • What is the Carrier Weights of the Curt and SportRack 4-Bike Platform Hitch Mount Bike Racks
Yes. The Curt 4-Bike Rack # C18086 weighs 86 pounds. If you're looking for a lightweight 4-bike carrier check out the Let's Go Aero BikeWing # B01458. It's a different style because it hangs the bikes by the wheels and it only weighs about 41 pounds.

  • Does Curt 4-Bike Rack Have Locking Anti-Rattle Hitch Pin?
There are high-quality 4-bike platform racks available which do have locking anti-rattle hitch pins, but the Curt # C18087 does not; it has an anti-rattle hitch pin though it is not locking. A 4-bike rack that is similar in price to the Curt that actually comes with a keyed-alike hitch lock and cable lock is the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE # HR1400Z. This bike rack uses padded hooks to grasp your bikes by the top tubes and adjustable wheel mounts with straps to secure your rear wheels....

  • Replacement Anti Rattle Hitch Pin for Curt Bike Racks
The anti rattle pin for Curt bike rack # C18087 isn't available as a replacement part. However, it is the same pin as # C22321 for a 2 inch hitch receiver and # F-315 for a 1-1/4 inch.

  • Can Bike Frame Adapter Bar be Used on Platform Style Rack
A bike frame adapter bar can definitely be used for bikes being carried on a platform-style bike rack. There isn't another solution as this is exactly what is required in order to ensure the hooks can grasp a women's bike or one with a step-through frame. There are a couple options I recommend, depending on the distance between the handlebar stem and seat post of the bike, as the bars have tubes that adjust to different lengths. - 15-1/2" - 28" long: Advantage SportsRack Bike Frame...

  • Comparing 4 Bike Platform Bike Carriers From SportRack And Curt
The Sportrack Crest is only a 2 bike rack, so I assume you are looking to compare the Curt 4 Bike Platform Rack - 2" Hitches - Frame Mount - Tilting # C18087 to the SportRack 4 Bike Rack for 2" Hitches - Platform Style SR2902. These bike racks are very similar in style and function, but there is one feature that I believe sets the Curt rack apart . . . its ability to tilt away for cargo access. This feature is extremely helpful when your bikes are loaded and you need to get something...

  • Best Bike Rack for Two Jetson Bolt Pro Electric Bikes and Two Normal Bikes
There will probably be issues with the Curt rack, product # C18087, since the wheel hoops are too large to secure a set of 14 inch tires. Fortunately, we have a bike rack that will suit your needs. It's the Saris Freedom 4 Bike Platform Rack, part # SA4414B. This can carry four bikes, with the inner two positions able to support up to 60 pounds each. So, there won't be any issues with the Jetsons' additional weight. This rack has both the Tilt-Away and Fold-Up features that the Curt...

  • Will the J-Pin work for anti-rattle and lock the bike rack?
The anti rattle pin on the Curt 4 premium # C18087 is a threaded pin so the J-Pin # 63201 will not fit the pitch of the thread in the shank. Honestly, you will get a decent amount of movement with any 4 bike platform rack. To carry the 4 bikes it takes a lot of space between your car and the farthest bike. I've used this rack before and know what you're talking about but the movement isn't enough to damage your hitch, the rack or your bikes if installed properly. A lot of the times people...

  • Should Loctite be Used to Put Together Curt 4 Bike Platform Rack # C18087
If it were me I probably would not use Loctite when assembling Curt 4 Bike Platform Rack # C18087 simply because it isn't needed. However if you want to err on the side of caution and chose to use Loctite I recommend using blue Loctite # LT37643. The blue Loctite is the less severe duty formula meaning you will still be able to take the rack apart with regular hand tools. Other formulas are much stronger and would require power or even pneumatic tools in some cases.

  • Recommended 4 Bike Carrier For Hitch on Rear of 5th Wheel
The Curt # C18087 bike rack isn't designed to be used on the rear of a towable. It's not the strength of the hitch that's in question, it's the bike rack itself. Bike racks used on the rear of a towed trailer are subject to much more battering and bouncing than they'd experience on the rear of a passenger vehicle, and the bike rack needs to be specifically designed for that purpose, or it could come apart during transport which would be bad. This being said, we do offer a 4 bike option...

  • Recommended Hitch Mounted Bike Rack For Long Wheel Base Recumbent Bike On 2020 Infiniti Q50
I have another option but since the Curt 4 Bike Platform Rack # C18087 you were looking at was designed for standard bikes, it is unlikely that it will be able to accommodate your long wheelbase recumbent bike. Also since the only trailer hitch receivers available for your Infiniti Q50 are 1-1/4", the Curt # C18087 will not fit as it is only compatible with a 2" trailer hitch receiver. Instead I recommend the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider Bike Rack for 2 Recumbent Bikes # HR1000Z-R which...
