How's it going, Maverick owners This is Ed here with etrailer.com, and we're taking a look at the Hollywood Racks Cross Trek single-bike, wheel-mounted carrier on our 2023 Ford Maverick. We're gonna check it out and see how well it fits on the back of our pickup, and just get a little bit of a look at the previews and how well it functions. So, let's just take a closer look real quick. So, the Cross Trek is a wheel-mounted carrier, meaning that it's gonna secure your bike without making any contact with your top tube, like a lot of frame-mounted carriers. You're gonna have a front wheel chock, as well as an arm on the front to help stabilize your wheel. You just wanna be a little bit cautious if you do have a fender, it may interfere with that.
But more specifically, we're gonna take a look at how it fits on the back of our Maverick. As you can kind of see with the single bike on this guy, it's gonna block out your backup camera with the frame of your bike. Your tail lights are gonna be slightly obstructed, and from a distance you should be able to see your license plate from underneath the carrier. Your rear window will catch your handlebars and seat, but you're still gonna have a pretty good perspective of what's going on behind the vehicle. So now we're gonna tilt our carrier and see if we can access our tailgate.
We're gonna tilt our carrier using our handle at the end, and it gives us a pretty good angle, and I can kind of already see that we may be able to get this guy open without making any contact. And let's see. Looks like we're resting on the carrier itself. I'm borrowing this truck from one of my teammates so I'm not gonna let it sit there, but you'll be able to get access into your bed pretty easily. And if you just happen to be one of those people that just don't care, it's a truck, and you're okay with it resting on that, that's an option.
You can also have a pool noodle or something, to just kind of go between the metal-to-metal contact. So we're just gonna push this guy back up into position, and we'll take our bike off to get a closer look at our carrier. The Cross Trek is gonna support wheels between 29 and 20 inches, you'll be able to make those adjustments. And if you have a 20-inch, you can actually make this adjustment here where you can get your stopper to go down a lot lower, and you can go over to your chock that's built in and position it a lot closer for those smaller wheels. So it gives you a lot of flexibility.
Now, to remove your arm, you're just gonna lift right here. I'm sorry, you actually press in, and you'll be able to relieve your arm. So, on the rear wheel, you can kind of see. I'm gonna push here, I'm just gonna bring it all the way to the floor. I'm gonna do the same over here on the front. Just being cautious that now I'm fully supporting the bike, and we can kind of roll it off. All right, and now you're just gonna press down that red button, and you can lower your arm to get it in the stowaway position. Another real cool feature about this guy is the fact that it's capable for a ramp. You'll be able to hook it onto the end of your carrier and route your bike down on either side of your tray. Well, we're gonna see how much we're adding to the back of our Maverick. I'm gonna take my tape here, and from the bumper we're right at six and a half inches. Overall, we're right at 26. And taking a look at our lowest point here, I'll say this point on our handle, it's right at 21 inches. So that's gonna change once you load up a 60-pound bike on the back of here. It's gonna settle with the suspension some, so just be aware when you're going up steep inclines and driveways. From here we're gonna fold this guy up, let it click into position. And now, at our closest point, we're right at six inches. And overall, right at twelve and a half. So, that's quite compact on the back of the truck. At this point, it's not blocking anything as far as your license plate or your tail lights. You're still gonna see it in your backup camera, but you wouldn't be able to access your tailgate so it's a few trade-offs, but what you're picking up is the opportunity for a bike carrier that's gonna be very flexible and very capable. The Cross Trek has a two-inch shank to go into your two-inch receiver. It's also adaptable to an inch and a quarter. So that comes in handy if you're sharing it across a couple of different vehicles with different hitch sizes. You're also gonna get this anti-rattle plate that you're gonna be able to fasten down to help stabilize the shank in the receiver. And then you have a lockable anti-rattle bolt that's going through your receiver, that's keyed alike to your cable lock that's included. So that's gonna keep your carrier secured to your receiver, and your cable lock will keep your bike secured to the carrier. Hollywood Racks does a really good job of getting premium features into an affordable package. If you are a person that's a little bit more of a serious cyclist, and we inchesre looking for a more premium bike carrier that has similar features, I would suggest going with the Kat Piston SR. It's a single bike carrier that's pretty close to what this does, just a little bit more refined. However, if you're looking for something just to get the job done and your bike fits into the capacities of this, it would be a great option to just get out there on the road. And you know it's gonna be reliable, just solid, because it's Hollywood Racks; they make really solid products. So, again, this is Ed with etrailer.com, taking a look at the Hollywood Racks Cross Trek, single-bike carrier on our 2023 Ford Maverick. Have a great day.
