Specs:
The Sport Rider platform-style hitch bike rack makes it simple to carry 2 recumbent bicycles on the rear of your vehicle. The rack has extra-long arms to hold recumbents with wheelbases up to 74" long and wheel hoop adapters to accommodate the smaller front wheels on recumbents. It features locking frame hooks and adjustable wheel hoops, so you can quickly load and unload your bikes. The included adapter sleeve enables the rack to fit both 1-1/4" and 2" hitch receivers. An anti-rattle system tightens the rack's shank to your hitch receiver to prevent it from rattling around inside the tube.
Locking, Ratcheting Hooks
The Sport Rider uses locking frame hooks to secure your bikes. These ratcheting, cushioned hooks easily adjust along the vertical mast and lock securely in place. The release buttons allow each hook to slide up the ratcheting arm for bike removal. The hooks function independently, which means you can position them to carry bikes of different heights.
Adjustable Wheel Hoops
The wheel hoops accommodate bicycles with wheelbases up to 74" by sliding along the horizontal arms. They secure in place with easy-to-use hand knobs, and the Velcro-like hook-and-loop straps fasten the wheels to the hoops.
The included pair of wheel hoop adapters easily attaches to the wheel hoops to accommodate the front wheels of recumbent bikes or 1 kid's bike with 16" or 18" wheels.
Folding, Tilting Design
The rack tilts, with or without bikes loaded, for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. To lower the rack, simply remove the pin from the base and tilt the platform down.
The rack also folds up against the back of your vehicle when it's not in use. To raise the rack, just lower the mast flat against the tray and lift.
Easy Installation with Locking Hitch Pin
The Sport Rider comes with locks for both the rack and your bikes to deter theft. The lock cores in the frame hooks hold the bike down on the rack and prevent them from moving. Also, the lock pod attaches to the hitch pin to secure the rack to your vehicle. These locks are conveniently keyed alike.
A removable adapter sleeve is included so the rack can be converted for use with 1-1/4" hitch receivers. The sleeve attaches to the shank with a single screw and can be installed or removed quickly.
Complete Security for Bikes and Rack
The Sport Rider comes with locks for both the rack and your bikes to deter theft. The lock cores in the frame hooks hold the bike down on the rack and prevent them from moving. Also, the lock pod attaches to the hitch pin to secure the rack to your vehicle. These locks are conveniently keyed alike.
Add-On Trike Adapter
If you want to transport one recumbent delta trike or one recumbent tadpole-style trike with the Sport Rider, you can use the HRTRK-ADP adapter (sold separately).

Easy to put together. Easy to use. I would definitely recommend this rack to a friend. It perfectly fits both mine and my wife’s 29er full suspension mountain bikes. Stoked about this purchase. Solid rack!! Also, I can’t say enough about etrailer.com I called to get some info on another rack that they were out of and was recommended this one, that turns out was a better fit for my bikes than the one I was looking at. Also, I needed it to ship out quickly because I was going on vacation. They expedited the process and it shipped that day. Saved my vacation. I can’t say enough about the company or the rack. I selected the HR1000Z-R based on this review: https://www.etrailer.com/question-432956.html and have used the rack for over a month on an '09 Jetta wagon. It's been a slight disapointment and an overall 'meh' purchase. Sort of a 'guess it does the job' thing. If there was partial stars I'd give it a 2-1/2. Assembly took about 30-45 minutes and the directions are fair but you may have to make a guess or two about some of the minor hardware. The hitch lock and the mast locks are keyed alike so you only need to keep track of one key. We use this rack for both standard diamond frame bikes and for transporting a fully rigged Surly Big Dummy. The latter bike was the primary bike we needed this wider hitch mount system rather than a more prevalent unit. The carrier scrapes when the car and carrier are loaded but that's more due to the Jetta's ride height and height of the receiver. The anti-rattle system is a threaded hitch pin that you run through your receiver then tighten down with a wrench. That keeps it from being a quick mount/dismount but doesn't take more than a few minutes. It comes with a lock for the hitch pin as well. The anti-rattle part keeps the hitch side from rattling, but there's still some lash at the upward bend where the main folding mechanism connects. With lighter bikes, it's not as noticeable but you definitely notice it with the cargo bike and another bike mounted. Both the main rail and mast use pins to secure the parts and allow for changing the form from 'folded away' to 'fully extended for use'. The main folding mechanism has a larger pin with a bale around it to keep it from dislodging during use. There's a smaller pin with a bale that can be removed to drop the assembly to allow access to the rear hatch. There is no assistance for the lift. The likelyhood of a person being able to lift the assembly and remove or add the necessary pin(s) with the rack loaded is pretty slim. Even more so if you have a cargo bike on there. This joint is also where the lash in the system comes from. There's enough room on the receiver side of the joint to allow it to fold easily, but there's not any sort of washer that takes out the slop. I'll probably have to look at a plastic washer or some sort of shim to take the wobble out. The crossbar has four loops to catch the wheels. The loops have velcro straps to secure the wheels to the hoops. The hoops' location is adjustable with a knob that tightens the mounting point on the crossbar. There's a plastic sleeve inside of the connecting piece to let it slide on the crossbar and keep the hoop assembly tight. The knob needs to be cranked down hard for the rear wheel of the Big Dummy. I can see some sag in the BD rear wheel hoop that I assume is from the weight + my failure to tighten it down far enough. Notice from the picture that the BD is biased far to the right. This is to get the top tube hook to land at the joint between the top tube and the seat tube. The mast has a keyed pin that lets you lay over the mast for folding the rack away. One side of the mast has teeth for the top tube clamps. The top tube clamps are open hooks with a foam padding. If your bike has exposed cables on the top tube, the rubbing will eat your paint alive. We got around that by using some pipe insulation to protect the top tube. You'll notice in the stock images the hooks rise to two different levels. One is substantially higher than the other. This means that two standard, regular height bikes won't fit the rack. The only reason this is sort of acceptable is that the BD has a sloping top tube. I reversed the mast from the original position so that the lower hook was on the outside of the rack to allow ease of mounting the BD. Otherwise I'd have to fight the cargo bike into the car side hoops and beat up both the car and the bike in the process. I will likely modify the low hook by drilling out the silver rivets, raising the hook and drilling to remount the hook high enough to get two standard flat top tube diamond frame bikes to mount. I shouldn't have to do that. There's already some light surface corrosion in places like the TT hook. Condensed version (TLDR): The rack can carry a Big Dummy, and it does that okay. The rack can't carry two adult sized standard bikes because one of the top tube hooks is too low to get the bike on. If you have bikes with sloping TTs, you may get lucky and be able to mount both bikes. There's some lash from the folding mechanism. Don't expect to actually get into the rear hatch with bikes mounted on the hitch, the securing mechanism is a purely mechanical joint that's fiddly to operate even with the hitch unloaded. If you have a BD on here, it's going to hang way out to one side if you drive a smallish car. Otherwise the carrier works as advertised. Overall, it's fine I guess. It'll have to be since this seems to be the only ready solution. I'll go through and make some mods to get it to do what it should out of the box. What can be done to fix the problems? Folding mechanism lash: Add plastic washers to still allow the mechanism to fold, but take out the lash. Raising and lowering the assembly while loaded: Add some sort of assistance (spring or gas shock) to raise and lower the assembly. Redesign the locking assembly from pins to an easier system. A friend has a Swagman (I think) carrier and it has a button on top that allows you to release the assembly, not pins that you have to fight to align while lifting up the assembly with the bikes loaded on it. Top tube hooks: increase the mast height to allow the hooks to raise high enough to pick up larger frames. Long winded, but hopefully this helps someone. -David 820653
Upon initial install everything looks great. Well built and fairly easy to assemble. There was some damage to the shipping box and one of the slides for the wheel bracket was cracked. I have purchased this rack for recumbent bikes. We own 2 bikes a long wheel base rans and a short wheel rans also. Once the initial setting of the wheel holders it should be easy for the future. The old rack I had purchased years back would not fit the long wheel base recumbent. This new rack will do the trick. 776504

The bike hitch came fast and was easy to put together. I can't wait to get the bikes on it and hit the bike trails. Should work really well with my long wheel base recumbent bike. 707454

Assembly and attachment to my car was very straight forward and easy. It seems to be a sturdy unit. It’s s going to be nice to have a bike rack that is made to accommodate a recumbent. In the past have always made due with a more universal type racks which to be honest were a little sketchy? I am trying it out this weekend a 400 mile round trip should be a good test. 695881

Assembly takes approximately 40 minutes not that difficult just a little time consuming. Ifusing a standard 2 inch receiver for some reason I need a hitch clamp otherwise a lot of play going over bumps or if not using bike rack with bikes loaded. I have 5 inch tires on my fat bike in the velcro won't go all the way around I wish it was longer. Other than that it does its job well so far. I will make some adjustments to accommodate my 2 Sondor e-bikes. Hitch clamp and longer velcro. 560324

I've owned this for about a year now. This rack is OK, but I probably would not buy again. It seems to be a budget model. My biggest issue is that the arms that secure the bikes to the vertical post are difficult to move up and down. I also find the velcro straps that go around the tires to be flimsy and non-functional. My previous rack had thick rubber straps that were more secure. Otherwise, the rack does what its supposed to do and works fine. 549820

Good bicycle hitch. The only problem I had was with the arm that comes down on the bike. The padding is not that great so I would recommend adding extra padding or you may find the bike a bit scraped up. Also, I went with the smaller hitch so I could use this on my car and truck (with the adapter). I feel the smaller hitch is not that stable and should have gone with the 2" and only use on my truck. However I spoke to Hollywood Racks support and they provided me some good tips on strapping down the bike mount to minimize the wiggling. Overall, I like it and for my recumbents... it works good. 524305

The Hollywood HR1000R goes together easily and seems very sturdy. It is easily wide enough to hold two recumbent bikes with seats on and is long enough to accommodate two long wheelbase recumbents. The inside bike installs more easily with the vertical post folded, but once in place is held securely. The outer bicycle installs easily. It does project considerably from the rear of the vehicle and is certainly not light. Pictures show a Rans Stratus LE XL and a Rans V-Rex mounted. Etrailer delivered the order very promptly. 520803

My Phantom Lightning recumbent bike fits perfect on this carrier. The bike has to be offset about 4" off center for the upper clamp to fit over the crossbar right in front of the seat. This is okay since the front of the bike is heaver than the rear and the front is closer to the center of the rack. At 45 lbs the rack is a bit heavy but I'm not worried about it collapsing on me. The fact that it can be folded up while mounted to my vehicle is another plus. 397458

Just took shipment, came in good shape. Opened box and found it to be packed very well...all parts secure and bubble wrapped . Very impressed! Put together and installed on car and again was very impressed with quality. I am very happy with this rack product! About time that I ordered something and it wasn't tinny junk. Thank you etrailer. 369051

Great rack. It is holding up well. I fix a lot of different size bikes for a non-profit and have to move the wheel holders a lot. If there was a way to permanently grease those it would be an excellent rack. The slides like to stick and are very difficult to move especially when you already have a bike in them. I ride a recumbent bike and it is the best rack for that. 361685

Excellent product. Well made and versatile. I bought a extended front wheel recumbent bike and this unit fits it perfectly. It also folds up and gets out of the way when not in use so you can access the items in the back of the van without removing it. Not disappointed in the purchase. 361296

This is my second Hollywood bike rack, the first one was for regular bikes and this one is for recumbents. It comes with adaptors for bikes with smaller wheels and an extra clip you can put on if one of the hold down clips doesn't work with the 2 bikes you have. I did find on my last carrier I had to retighten the 3/4 inch bolt that holds the rack to the hitch because it would loosen off on long trips (across the USA), short trips were not a problem. I use some extra, small bungees on the wheels and cross bar just for back up. 327187

Thanks to Patrick I got my new bike rack yesterday. Put it together and did a test run with both recumbents bikes installed. The new Hollywood rack worked perfect. note: I gave my old rack to our local bike shop and he was interested in the hollywood model because they get request for reccumbents racks. 317859

Love this bike rack. For a change, I've managed to purchase a product that is exactly as good as promised. Assembly was a bit of a challenge as I am NOT mechanically inclined but with lots of help from my brother, I managed. Now after 3 outings, I am very comfortable carrying my recumbent securely at speeds up to 60 mph. As a small woman, I am able to do everything by myself, something I simply could not manage with previous bike racks. All I have to do is get the front wheel in the track and then repeat with the back wheel, so that I am never lifting more than half the weight of the bike. No longer does my torn rotator cuff prevent me from going on club rides. I am one happy customer! 277810

Loved the new rack for our two recumbent bikes. The instructions were not the easiest to follow however it is a great product and well designed common sense can guide you install it. We love it and find it so easy to use. The ordering process was easy. Loved their e-mails that keep you informed of the status of your product. I would use etrailer again. Thanks! 268228

Fast delivery. Well packed. Directions not as clear as I needed, but successfully assembled. My Tour Easy fits nicely. I did turn the handle bar and front wheel to a backward position to make the width shorter. Quality seems to be very good, but have not been on the road yet. Appreciate the long tie down straps and extra short hook. 2" adapter is well made. 219422

The product is very well designed. Quality seams to be of very good material and should give good service. I really like the ease of loading and unloading the bikes. The extra clamp hook that was supplied, was needed in my case. Folding the carrier back allows us to open our rear hatch on the car. This was just what I wanted for carrying my recumbent and wife's regular bikes. 198359
