1450R Rack on Car

The Sport Rider Special Edition platform-style hitch bike rack makes it simple to carry 2 recumbent bikes on the rear of your vehicle. The rack has extra-long locking arms to hold recumbents with wheelbases up to 74" long and wheel hoop adapters to accommodate the smaller front wheels on recumbents. An anti-rattle system tightens the rack's shank to your hitch receiver to prevent it from rattling around inside the tube.

Locking, Ratcheting Hooks

tilting

The Sport Rider SE2 uses locking frame hooks to secure your bikes. The ratcheting, cushioned hooks easily adjust along the vertical mast and lock securely in place. The release buttons allow each hook to slide up the ratcheting arm for bike removal. The hooks function independently, which means you can position them to carry bikes of different heights.

Adjustable Wheel Hoops

1450R SE2 Wheel Holders

The wheel hoops accommodate bicycles with wheelbases up to 74" by sliding along the horizontal arms. They are secured in place with easy-to-use hand knobs, and the Velcro-like hook-and-loop straps fasten the wheels to the hoops.

The included pair of adapters easily attach to the wheel hoops to accommodate the front wheels of recumbent bikes or 1 kid's bike with 16" or 18" wheels.

Folding, Tilting Design

tilting

The rack tilts, with or without bikes loaded, for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Simply remove the pivot pint, pull the bottom quick-release spring pin, and lower the rack.

folding

The rack also folds up against the back of your vehicle when it's not in use. To raise the rack, just pull the upper quick-release spring pin and lift.

Tool-Free Installation with Anti-Rattle System

The rack installs in your hitch without the need for tools. Simply slide the shank into your receiver until the welded stop plate contacts the hitch. The stop plate saves you from getting on your hands and knees to align the pin holes while inserting the hitch pin. Once the pin is in place, attach the lock pod. Lastly, use the integrated anti-wobble handle on the front of the shank to tighten the rack inside your hitch receiver and prevent it from rattling.

Complete Security for Bikes and Rack

The Sport Rider comes with locks for both the rack and your bikes to deter theft. The lock cores in the frame hooks hold the bike down on the rack and prevent them from moving. Also, the lock pod attaches to the hitch pin to secure the rack to your vehicle. These locks are conveniently keyed alike. For extra protection, the 8' long security cable wraps through the bike frames, connects to the hitch pin, and is secured to the pin by the hitch lock.

Just want to say how pleased I am with my new Hollywood recumbent bike rack. As the pictures show, it's easy as pie loading, unloading, securing and gaining access to my Subarus Forester's hatch. This thing is a beast in terms of strength and quality. I looked at other options for my recumbent bike where the bike actually mounts facing skyward; to the tune of 800-900 bucks! So I'm glad I found eTrailer.com bc it's the right rack for my application and wallet. 135694

Thanks for the great review! If you put your bent on the inside, can you still open the hatch when the rack is tilted back? Does the tilt option work OK with two bikes on it, or is it heavy to operate?

This rack is bomb proof. It hauls my semi-recumbent and traditional mountain bikes just fine. Super easy to load and unload bikes and the tilt feature is a BIG plus when opening the hatch on my Subaru Forester. I dont have any complaints regarding this rack and I am very pleased with the quality and design.

I just assembled this rack and it seems to be very well made. It hasn't actually been used yet but I am sure that it will suit our needs well on both our SUV and motorhome. I like how solid and stable it feels when mounted. We have conventional bikes and a recumbent so this configuration is perfect since we'll only be traveling with two at any given time. The only minor negative is the fact that the instructions contain some errors (e.g. to lock the hooks, the key rotates counterclockwise not clockwise as stated). Also, the references to "inside" and "outside" for wheel holder installation on the passenger side are reversed. This, of course, is obvious as you assemble it but the info could be cleaned up. The illustrations help to clarify the erroneous text. Looking forward to our first trip with it in a couple weeks. 831458

The rack works exactly the way we wanted it to. We use it for our tandems and wanted something that was more accessible than on the roof of our vehicle. We like how we can lock the bikes to the unit and lock the rack to the vehicle with the locking pin. Relatively easy set up and quick attachment to the vehicle. 771139

This bike rack was even better then I thought it would be! Very well made and heavy duty. Went together especially easy and quick. Instructions are easy to follow. The rack fits my wife's long wheel base recumbent easily and still has room to grow. I put both my Rans crank forward and the recumbent on and fits perfectly. Easy to load and unload. Now we can head to more riding areas. I love it! Working with etrailer was great and they had it to my house in record time! 399588

Pro: Holds a heavy cargo bike with a long wheelbase. Con: The foam padding on the arm holders broke apart on our first road trip and scratched both bikes. Very cumbersome to adjust wheelbase. Heavy with cheap velcro straps and foam padding. I've owned several racks over the past few decades and this by far the worst. The only benefit is that it can accommodate a heavy bike with a long wheelbase. It's been over a year since I purchased this so maybe there are other nicer options out there that will fit a cargo bike. I would recommend looking at other products. Though Etrailer customer service and transaction was very good. 365819

Bought this rack a year ago and love it. We have a long and a short wheelbase recumbent and they fit great. No more removing wheels from the bikes, just easy on and easy off. Totally happy with the quality of this bike carrier. We needed a "specialty" carrier because on of our bikes is a recumbent and the wheel span is much longer than normal. This carrier handles our regular and specialty bike and we couldn't be happier. 292829

I bought this rack to carry a diamond frame bike and a long wheel base recumbent bike. Very few are available. The quality of this rack is very nice. Instructions are great. I have bought from trailer before and went back to them for this order. Quick shipping and quality products. I gave this 4 stars because of the process of placing the bikes on the rack. I have to move the top bar that holds the bike down almost to the point of removal to get the first bike in the rack or take several other steps to lower the center bar, etc. Not difficult to do and the rack is solid. I am very pleased with the rack. 272330

I order this product on Tuesday, after learning a order the wrong product from another vendor. It was to small for my recumbent bike which is very long. As I mention earlier, Tuesday with free shipping, it arrived Friday on the same week, from the Great State of Missouri to DC metro area. Saturday, it was on my vehicle with my recumbent bike. I had a Great 4 of July Weekend. Thank you, very much. Respectfully, DFTD. 268201

Review from a similar Sport Rider SE2 in Hitch Bike Racks

It is definitely the best bike rack I've had to date, it has surpassed my expectations. I say that because I know some folks with platform racks that look great and are lighter, but are also much more expensive, but what sold me on this particular model is the fact that it is the only one (that I found) that comes with a cargo tray option. It took a little effort to assemble, but once it was ready to be hooked to my hitch, all I had to do was adjust the wheel holders to match the length of my bicycles thereafter, it was a breeze to load and unload them. On my latest camping trip, the additional room the cargo tray provided, eliminated the need to load all the camping gear inside my vehicle, I couldn't believe I was able to fit all that stuff on the cargo tray! A word of caution; At the time I got this rack and tray combo, my SUV was on the shop I could not wait to put it to use, so I hooked it to my tiny car, loaded with 2 bikes, the tray plus cargo and it got really heavy, and though it worked as intended, my little car was really low to the ground... For that reason I would definitely caution against using it fully loaded (as I did) on a subcompact car! :-) however, the bike rack alone works great on the tiny car! needless to say if I need to use the cargo tray with it, I definitely stick to my SUV! Overall and for the price, it really is an excellent product and I would highly recommend it! 681334

Review from a similar Sport Rider SE2 in Hitch Bike Racks

Received my bike rack in a few days and totally complete. Very high quality (and I am picky). Only issue I had, and indicated in a number of the other reviews, is the poor assembly instructions. I would recommend you start by putting the hitch to the car and go from there. It is not something you can assemble in your living room and then head to the car to attach it. All being said, great product. 798998

I have a potential solution for you, but you'll need to verify that your hitch is at least a Class III for this setup to work. This will be listed on the hitch's weight capacity sticker. You'll be able to use Hollywood Rack's Sport Rider for Recumbents, part # HR1450Z-R with their two bike extension, part # HR1475Z. This will give you two inner positions with up to a 74 inch wheel base and two traditional bike positions. The SportRider is able to tilt away from the vehicle, and fold...

  • Recommended Anti-Rattle Hitch Mounted Recumbent Bike Rack for a 2014 Ram 3500 Dually
I spoke with my contact at Hollywood Racks who said the hitch pin on the Sport Rider SE2 2-Bike Tilting Carrier for Recumbents # HR1450Z-R will be long enough to fit your 2 1/2 inch receiver with an insert. The anti-rattle handle/locking pin will minimize any bouncing movement, and the handle on front of the rack is designed to tighten the shank to the receiver tube without tools. This is a solid well designed solution for your set-up. For additional peace of mind you may want to pick...

  • 2010 Honda CRV Bike Rack Options for a Rans Fusion Crank Forward Bike that Allows Rear Cargo Access
According to my research your Rans Fusion Crank forward bike can have an extended wheelbase and can be quite variable. So my recommendation for a hitch mounted bike rack that can adjust for the required wheelbase for your bike and tilt away from your vehicle allowing you access to the rear cargo area of your vehicle is the Hollywood Racks # HR1450Z-R. This bike rack has adjustable wheel holders, and you can use wheel adapters like the # HRSW-ADP-2 if needed to accommodate your specific...

  • Honda CRV Bike Rack Options for a Rans Fusion Crank Forward Bike
I recommend a hitch mounted bike rack that adjusts for the required wheelbase for your bike like the Hollywood Racks # HR1450Z-R. You can use wheel adapters like # HRSW-ADP-2 to accommodate your specific bike. It can also tilt away from your vehicle when the bike is loaded, even in the furthest mounting position. If you only carry one bike you could gain some clearance by using it as a single bike carrier at the furthest position. I have included links to the parts listed above as...

  • Fit of Sun Easy Sport Recumbent Bike on Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2 Part # HR1450R
As long as the wheelbase of your Sun Easy Sort C doesn't exceed 74 inches and it isn't heavier than 45 lbs, the bike will fit a Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE2, part # HR1450Z-R. According to my research, the bike has a 62 inch wheelbase, so it should work great on the Sport Rider SE2 bike rack. The bike rack includes a locking hitch pin to secure the rack to the vehicle and a cable lock to secure the bikes to the rack. The SE2 is designed for 2 inch receivers. In order for the rack...

  • Bike Rack that Can Potentially Carry a Tandem Bike and a Standard Bike
The Hollywood Racks Sport Rider # HR1000Z-R could potentially work for you. It will hold a bike with a wheelbase up to 74 inches with tires up to 3 inches wide. It was intended for use with recumbent bikes that have longer wheelbases so it just depends on if your wheelbase is 74 inches or less. It can hold two bikes too so it would be able to carry your other bike as well.
