Rotating Arms with Ratcheting Hooks

Kuat Transfer V2 ratcheting hooks

The Transfer V2 has ratcheting hooks that grab your bikes firmly by the front wheel - not the frame. It's perfect for carrying carbon bikes or bikes with a custom paint job. To load a bike, simply place your front wheel in the cradle, rotate the arm up and over the wheel, and press down firmly on the ratcheting hook.

Front-Wheel Cradles with Adjustable Pitch

Kuat Transfer V2 front wheel cradles

In its upright position the front cradles sit at the optimal position for holding normal-size bikes. However, you can adjust the cradles so that smaller bikes sit more toward the center of the rack or to prevent bikes from bumping into each other. To adjust the pitch, use the included Allen key to flip the bolt locator tabs upside down.

Pivoting Rear-Wheel Cradles

Kuat Transfer V2 rear wheel cradle

The rear wheel cradles accommodate a wide variety of bike wheelbases. They pivot front to back, adjusting automatically to each bike's wheelbase - no need for sliding and tightening. Secure the wheels in place with the built-in ratcheting strap. Strap extenders (sold separately) let you carry fat bikes.

U-Shape Frame

Kuat Transfer V2 U-shape base

Most platform-style racks force you to reach out and over the rack to load your bikes or walk around to the back of the rack to access the bike closest to your vehicle. The U-shaped frame allows you to walk inside the rack and get close to your bikes to lift them. Also, it won't block your backup camera when it's folded up.

Foot Lever for Easy Tilting and Folding

Kuat Transfer V2 foot lever

The spring-loaded foot lever is easily accessible even with your bikes loaded. No more crawling through your bikes or squeezing between the rack and the vehicle to hit the tilt release lever.

Kuat Transfer V2 tilting rackKuat Transfer V2 folding rack

The foot lever lets you tilt the rack down with bikes loaded for cargo area access. It leaves both hands free so that you can lower the rack in a controlled manner. When the rack is unloaded you can fold it up for storage.

Easy Installation

Kuat Transfer V2 complete security

The rack is easy to install. Just slide the shank into your hitch and use the included 8-mm Allen wrench to tighten the flatlock cam. An anti-rattle wedge is deployed inside the shank to help take play out of the hitch connection.

Complete Security for Bikes and Rack

Kuat Transfer V2 indentation

The Allen wrench has an indentation, so it can only be used with the Transfer. This helps keep the rack secure on your vehicle. You'll need to store it in a safe place because you'll need it when you want to remove the rack. You can also use a locking hitch pin (sold separately) for extra rack security.

Kuat Transfer V2 integrated cable lock

The Transfer also includes a cable lock that secures your bikes to the rack. The 1/4" thick, braided steel cable threads through your bike's frames, and locks back into the rack.

Video Transcript for Kuat Hitch Bike Racks Review - 2021 Subaru Outback Wagon

Hey everybody, how's it going Today we're going to be going over and taking a look at the line of Kuat transfer V2 hitch mounted bike racks here on our 2021 Subaru Outback. So the transfer is going to be a platform style rack. Now there's mainly two different kinds of bike racks. We have the hanging style which have the vertical post and then those two horizontal arms. And then we obviously have the platform style. Now in regards to the pros and cons between the two, the hanging style racks are typically a little bit more cost effective.

However, they're a little bit harder to use. The platform style racks are definitely easier to load the bikes onto and if we have heavier bikes we're going to actually have to utilize the platform rack because the hanging ones top out at around 35 37 pounds per bike. Now another nice thing about the kuat and the platform family. There's two different kinds of holders. We have frame mounted holders, which grip the bike here.

And then we have wheel mounted holders which you can see grip the bike by the wheel. The wheel mount option is going to be an excellent bike rack choice for you so long as you don't have vendors for every other bike it's going to be perfect for your situation. So the great thing about the transfer you can actually configure this in a number of different varieties. It comes in a one bike rack, which is what we see here. It's also available in a two bike rack version a three bike version and a four bike version.

Now, if you're not sure how many bikes you're going to be carrying, you can actually purchase just one of the solo or the two or three option. And then we actually sell an add a bike option here for this bike rack that allows you to carry an additional bike. So something else you'll be glad to know about the kuat transfer. It has that same tilting feature you're used to with all of your other bike racks meaning we can still get into the hatch of our vehicle with the bike rack and bikes still attached. We'll just simply use our foot here press down that little lever there.

We can fold it away, come into our hatch here. You can open it as you can see, we have plenty of room in here. We can get content in and out of our hatch without issue. when we're done, we can just close our hatch, simply the rack back up into the travel position. So we arrive at the trails are ready to take our bike off. It's going to be super simple. We're going to start by releasing the ratcheting mechanism here at the rear. So just simply press that button there. Then we can pull the wheel strap out. And then what we're going to do is we're going to place one hand on the actual frame of the bike here because we're going to be releasing the ratcheting hook. And if we don't have a hold of our bike, it can actually fall into the vehicle. So you want to make sure that you have a good hold on that. And then there's just simply going to be a little release button here on the upright lever. We'll lift that up and then we can actually just fold that arm down and now we can take our bike off. As you can see there, that was very simple, not a lot of steps involved to get your bike on and off the rack. So once we have our bike off if we take a closer look at the actual cradles for our rack you're going to see we have some different contours in here. So first starters, the cradles are going to be able to accommodate tires up to three inches wide. But if you have those real narrow tires like we had on our road bike there it's going to be an excellent option. Cause you can see here, we have this little divot at the very bottom of the cradle here which fits that small tire nicely. Now some of the other acts that don't have this there's definitely a lot more play in there but with that little divot there we get a nice and secure connection. So something else you'll notice about this cradle here isn't actually pivots forward and back. And the reason it does this year is it allows us to accommodate bikes with different wheel bases. The front one is going to have that same pivoting mechanism as well. So as long as your bike rack is within that wheelbase range it's going to be an excellent option here. We just simply have to adjust the trays in accordance to what our actual wheelbase is. So the maximum wheel base, in order to be compatible with this bike rack here is going to be 50 inches. Now, if you're not sure what your actual wheelbase is they'll just simply measure from the center of the front tire to the center of the rear tire. So if we take a closer look at our arm here, now what I really like about this particular wheel style is that we just simply swing that down and we can take our bikes off but the hanging style racks are usually lifting them up here and you have to sort of maneuver them between the vertical posts there or the horizontal post rather. And it can kind of be a pain but with this wheel holder style here you just simply swing this down. You can take your bike ride off. You don't have to do any heavy lifting and you can see it just simply goes up here and then we can easily just slide down that hook till we get it nice and firm on our tire there. And then our bike is secure. It's that easy. We can also fold it down this way for more compact storage. So in regards to security you're going to be covered either way with both your bike and the rack. So in regards to securing your actual bike to the bike rack, we're going to get this nice little integrated locking cable, simply wraps around your bike. And then there's a slot for it to plug in here on one of the arms in regards to compatibility or rather security of the bike rack to the vehicle. If we take a look at this bolt here on the bottom of the rack, so this does a couple of different things. It serves as a security mechanism for our bike rack because it actually takes a special security key in order to loosen that you actually can not remove the bike rack until that's loosened. So although we don't have a traditional lock core we're definitely still going to have six security here with our bike rack that bolt there also provides sort of an anti-rattle mechanism. Now we've got that tightened up here. If we go ahead and just give our bike rack a good shake here you can see it's not moving anywhere. We're actually moving our vehicle. So this bike rack is very secure and stable here with this integrated mechanism. So in regards to securing your bike to the rack here we have integrated cable here as well as the integrated traditional lock core on the bottom. And basically the way this works is it'll just take one in the cable, you'll wrap it around the frame of your bike, through that loop. And there's going to be a little hole on the inside here. We'll just simply place that in and that's actually going to lock our bike to the rack. So if you take a look at the actual shank of the bike rack so granted there are a few different variations. This bike rack does come in an actual solid two-inch shank depending on the number of bikes we need to carry. But there's also a version that has this included two inch to one and a quarter inch adapter. Now there's a couple different versions of this bike rack that come with that. And there's a couple different that come with the solid two-inch. Now, if you have multiple vehicles I definitely recommend going with the one a quarter inch to two inch adapter because it's going to make your bike rack that much more versatile. However, if you have a solid two inch hitch on all of your vehicles, then you'd probably want to opt for the larger two inch shank there cause they're a little bit more stable. So in summary the transfer is going to be an excellent option for you and the family. No matter how many members you have it can be configured in versions from one to four bikes. Now I'll definitely say the transfer has been one of my favorites for a long time. This is actually an upgraded model of the predecessor. And I would definitely classify this as some more of a middle tier option. It definitely is pretty cost-effective compared to some of the other higher end options on the market but you still get some of the great features of those bike racks such as the integrated locks and the anti-rattle mechanisms. And that's going to do it today for our look at the line of kuat transfer v2 hitch mounted bike racks. Here are a 2021 Subaru Outback..

Review from a similar Transfer V2 in Hitch Bike Racks

We love this bike rack. We bought a couple ebikes and needed something we could use behind our travel trailer when camping and the truck when we just want to drive to some trails. When we were looki g, many can't be used behind travel trailers. We absolutely love the way its built - its sturdy, high quality, pretty easy to put together - good instructions. Love the tilting feature - use one foot - very easy. Love that it comes with the cable lock for the bikes, It is very adjustable for a wide range of bikes. We have step throughs. We did buy a hitch lock for extra security. We would recommend this rack to anyone.

Review from a similar Transfer V2 in Hitch Bike Racks

Received in a wel packaged box yesterday afternoon and quickly assembled following excellent step by step instructions. Rack to be mounted to my truck 2 inch hitch later this afternoon, then will size each of the three bikes on each platform. Want to thank e- trailer from order to delivery, great support. Next step based on excellent recommendation from Kyle S back on 18 Feb is to add a swing out capability with the Yakima back swing swing away hitch extender later this Fall, one step at a time. More to follow, Thanks!

Review from a similar Transfer V2 in Hitch Bike Racks

I purchased the Kuat Transfer V2 after trying and returning the less expensive and frustrating Thule Apex XT 4 which would have needed the additional cross supports to properly transport the three hardtail mountain bikes we own. After about 40 minutes of assembly of the V2 with a good set of instructions, I was able to install the rack on the back of our vehicle quickly and get the bikes loaded in no time. Bike loading with the split mast design was easy and I was able to reach the foot pivot to lower the rack for access into the rear of the vehicle with the bikes loaded easily. The bikes sat in the support cradles securely and the handlebars did not interfere with each other. The rear tire ratchet straps were easy to secure and did not interfere with the wheel cradles while loading the bikes which I liked. The bike lock is easy to access and the cable secured to the rack easily. Overall I’m very pleased with the purchase and glad I sprung a bit more for a platform rack.

Review from a similar Transfer V2 in Hitch Bike Racks

This rack came very well packaged with easy instructions to follow. It took about 1 hour to put it together. It is a very high quality product. We have it on our Subaru Crosstrek and it doesn't interfere with opening the back hatch when the rack is in the down position. The bikes are a breeze to load and unload. I highly recommend this bike rack.

Review from a similar Transfer V2 in Hitch Bike Racks

I just built and installed my rack yesterday and I absolutely love it. I drove with it on today (no bikes), amazed that there was no rattle. Tomorrow I do plan to carry a bike to see how that feels. The quality of the product exceeded my expectations! Great value for the price and if this is Kuats Entry Level model, it is worth every penny!

Unlike other trips with my old rack, when we reached our destination, I was pleasantly surprised that bikes were in the exact same position as when we started! Love the simplicity of loading and unloading

Review from a similar Transfer V2 in Hitch Bike Racks

The product is great in the beginning. But over time, the spring at the lower end shank is not working and I am having to manually pull and push the gear into the socket when I lower or higher the rack. This is a pain for now but not sure if it will turn into a safety issue.

I am sorry as I do not have a solution that I can offer however I can have Kuat reach out to you.

Review from a similar Transfer V2 in Hitch Bike Racks

This carrier is really well made. It's heavy and heavy duty. Handles our three mountain bikes with no trouble at all. Two things that could be improved, the hooks don't slide easily into place unless the thumb release is pressed. Maybe that's intentional, but it's annoying.

Secondly, the foot release is hard to reach with the bikes loaded. I've seen other brands that have a longer peddle which would be helpful.

One important thing to understand, there's an allen key included for locking the carrier into the hitch receiver. This needs to be tight in order to 1. keep the rack from wobbling side-to-side and 2. to keep the carrier from being removed (and stolen).

Review from a similar Transfer V2 in Hitch Bike Racks

This product is very well made. Installation out of the box is easy. Install in to the trailer hitch goes in smoothly and is very secure, a tool is provided to firm up the rack so there is no movement and remains solid during transport. Bike mounting is so easy and secure the bike never moves in transportation. Best product on the market.

Review from a similar Transfer V2 in Hitch Bike Racks

Bike rack arrived from the carrier in a damaged box so we did spray paint the area that has scratches, but no structural damage was done. It fits my RAV4 perfectly. Also, I am short and being able to tilt toward me and put my bike on makes it so much easier when I am out riding solo. It's easy to secure even though it feels like it wobbles.. the bike isn't going anywhere. We really like the pedal that allows you to tile the rack and be able to get in the back of the car.

Review from a similar Transfer V2 in Hitch Bike Racks

I've had good luck with this rack. I still think it's a little harder to put bikes on than the 1Up style racks, but it's been secure, the stability is good, it's nice to be able to carry three bikes, and it folds up nice.

Review from a similar Transfer V2 in Hitch Bike Racks

This rack is exactly what I was looking for for my 45lb E-bike. I worked with Chris from etrailer and he came through with flying colors with information, manuals, and even a fair price match for the part. The Kuat racks are best known for durability and great customer service with a Lifetime warranty. It solved the problem of being able to confidently have a heavier bike on the rack which has an impressive 60lb rating. This rack was changed from last years model of 45lb limit. That sealed the deal knowing that this rack will carry a very expensive E-bike without worries of it coming off on the road. Great peace of mind! Cheers to etrailer and their team!

Customer service from etrailer and Kuat was excellent. Took me a little bit of time to put together, especially sliding the forks on (they are also a little squeaky a few months in). But for the price, I do think this was the best option for me. Getting bikes on/off is a breeze!
