Note: May interfere with bikes with front fenders.
The GuideRail carries 3 bikes, however the front position can be easily removed so there's less of a load on you and your vehicle if only 2 people are going riding. When it's not needed, simply remove the front section with the included tool and throw it in your trunk or leave it at home. A 2-bike add-on is also available, if you want to convert the rack into a 4-bike carrier.
The GuideRail has pivoting upright arms that grab your bikes firmly by the wheel, so it won't scratch or scuff the paint. These upright arms allow you to rapidly load and unload your bikes. Simply set your bikes onto the trays and pivot the upright arms against the tires. Ratchets hold the arms in place, so once you squeeze the arms against the wheels there's nothing left to do.
To unload your bikes, you can either flip the blue levers up or press them in to release the ratchets and raise the arms up. Flip the levers back down to re-engage the ratchets.
Each arm has 4 slots to accommodate 20" - 24", 24" - 26", 26" - 27.5", and 27.5" - 29" bike tire sizes. To adjust each arm to fit your wheel size, remove the blue bolt, slide the bridge to the desired tire size, and re-insert the bolt.
The GuideRail doesn't have wheel cradles like many platform bike racks. Instead, it has wheel trays with grooves that accommodate a wide range of tire sizes from narrow 18c road bikes up to 3.0" wide mountain bikes. Because the grooves run the length of the trays, you can position your bikes exactly where you want them, rather than in a fixed location. This allows you to optimize bike spacing so your bikes don't bump into each other.
The rack tilts down with your bikes loaded. So, whether you're at the trail or the grocery store, you don't have to remove your bikes to access your cargo area. It also folds up when not in use. This leaves a smaller footprint, so you can keep the rack on your vehicle to park in your garage. And if you want to remove it, it doesn't take up as much space to store it.
To make tilting and folding easier, the GuideRail's release lever is mounted on the front of the rack. This means you won't have to reach through or around your bikes with one hand to reach the lever, while supporting the rack's weight with the other, when lowering the rack. Instead, you'll be able to hold the rack with both hands the entire time.
The rack includes a threaded hitch pin that helps eliminate rattle in the hitch receiver during transport. A lock on the hitch pin secures the rack to your vehicle. It also includes a nylon-covered, square-link chain that secures your bikes to the rack. The chain threads around your bike's frames, through a loop on the end, and locks into the hidden core on the front of the rack. The locks are keyed alike, so you only need to use 1 key.

I’ve used several different hitch-mounted bike racks over the years. The cost of the RockyMounts GuideRail spooked me initially, however while putting it together I could clearly see that the quality is undeniable. The rack is really easy to assemble and use. The locking hitch bolt jam feature keeps the rack from jiggling and my 55-pound 29-inch enduro ebike fits securely in the wheel mounts. The included security chain is very heavy-duty and the integrated lock, which uses the same key as the included hitch pin is a really nice feature. If you have a shell on your pickup or if you have a van or SUV, you might need a hitch extension to keep wide handle bars away from the vehicle on the inside rail. My pickup tailgate can be lowered with the rack in the all the way down position, but it makes contact when lowered with the rack in the mid position. Check your application for clearance before lowering your tailgate with the rack installed on your vehicle. I did a bit of searching and etrailer had the lowest price with the quickest free shipping on this rack at the time.
