Ratcheting Wheel Hooks

Saris SuperClamp EX ratcheting wheel hooks

The SuperClamp EX has padded, ratcheting hooks that secure your bikes by the wheels - not by the frame. This prevents the rack from scratching and scuffing your bike's paint or damaging the frame, which makes the SuperClamp EX an excellent choice for transporting bikes with carbon fiber frames.

Saris SuperClamp EX sliding wheel trays

The hooks adjust independently - just press the gray button and slide the hook up or down. This adjustability allows you to carry any combination of full-size adult bikes, women's bikes, children's bikes, and alternative-frame bikes.

Adjustable Wheel Trays

Saris SuperClamp EX sliding wheel trays

Injection-molded plastic wheel trays slide along the rack's horizontal arms to accommodate bikes with different wheelbases. These trays secure in place with twist knobs.

Saris SuperClamp EX folding masts at end of tray

Use the included ratcheting straps to secure your bike's rear wheel to the wheel tray.

Saris SuperClamp EX reflectors

If you want to carry a fat bike with tires wider then 4-1/2", you can replace the rack's wheel trays with fat bike cradles (SA4419 - sold separately).

Folding Masts at Ends of Base

Saris SuperClamp EX folding masts at end of tray

The masts are located at opposite ends of the base, making the SuperClamp EX easy to load and unload. Because these masts are at each end of the base, instead of in the middle like most platform racks, they won't interfere in any way with your bikes as you load or unload them. Instead, they simply fold out of the way, giving you a clear path to the wheel trays.

Saris SuperClamp EX sliding wheel trays

These masts lock into the upright position for use, then fold down for storage and access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Just press down on the gray button and rotate the mast to the desired position. The masts pivot on strong, case-hardened steel brackets that ensure long life and smooth operation.

Folding and Tilting Design

Saris SuperClamp EX folding and tiliting design

There is an integrated lever that lets you tilt the rack down with bikes loaded for access to your rear cargo area or fold the rack up against your vehicle for storage. And it means you can leave the rack in your hitch without it interfering with your cargo hatch or backup camera. The compact design lets you easily store the rack in your garage when it's not in use. There is also a built-in bottle opener over the lever.

Complete Security System

Saris SuperClamp EX cable locks

The SuperClamp EX includes locks to deter theft of your bikes and the rack. A braided, 10-mm stainless steel cable lock built into the base secures your bikes to the rack. The cable has a vinyl coating to prevent it from scratching your bikes. Simply thread the cable through the bike frames and attach it to the lock body at the other end of the base.

Saris SuperClamp EX sliding wheel trays

When not in use, the lock stores inside the rack's arm. A push-button releases the lock, so it won't accidentally slide out and drag on the ground during transport.

Saris SuperClamp EX reflectors

The HitchTite lock fits over the end of your threaded hitch pin to secure the rack to your hitch. The threaded hitch pin serves as an anti-rattle device to minimize movement and noise in the hitch.

Saris SuperClamp EX lock

Both locks have push-to-lock bodies that make them easy to secure and help to prevent accidental locking. Integrated dust caps keep the lock cores clean and dry. And the locks are keyed alike, so you can use the same key for both locks.

Saris SuperClamp EX lock

The included adapter sleeve ensures the SuperClamp EX will fit both 1-1/4" and 2" hitches.

I can't say enough good things about this bike rack.I was going to go with a cheaper model but I'm glad I spent the extra money for this Saris. The rack installs and comes off the hitch quickly. The bikes also are easy to load and unload. This thing is great. The first one got ruined by the carrier and etrailer sent me out a new one immediately.Top notch service.

Thanks to etrailer’s excellent information, I managed to find a bike rack that would carry 2 e-bikes and work with my existing class I 1-1/4 in receiver. I had the added challenge that I carry the bikes on a car that I tow behind my RV, so it needed to be rated for a tow vehicle. The Saris Superclamp EX met all my criteria, and for a reasonable price. I was also happy to find that it’s made in the USA. Install was fairly easy, couple of minor hiccup’s as I figured out the drawings, which, to be honest, weren’t entirely clear. But it’s pretty intuitive, so just added an extra minute or two, and probably wouldn’t phase the more mechanically minded. I’m a somewhat out of shape 50’s female, and I don’t have any trouble moving the rack around, it’s a nice weight and fairly compact when collapsed. It’s very easy to access the hatch when the bikes are not mounted. Haven’t tried it with bikes on yet. Once installed, it is rock solid. Loading my 45ish lb bike (with battery removed) is doable. In a perfect world it would have a ramp, but given my other criteria were met, I’m happy to do without the ramp. The rack seems like it holds the bike firmly during transport so overall, I’m extremely happy with my purchase. Also, there wasn’t a ton of unnecessary packaging to get rid of, but things were well protected in shipment. Customer service from etrailer is stellar as well, they helped quickly with a minor issue. Happy customer here!

At the age of 70, I needed a “friendlier” mounting and bike access rack. A platform rack seemed to be the solution. I had one caveat. My Subaru Forester had a 1and 1/4” receiver (with a non-standard 3/4” length mounting hole). My Volvo had a tuck away 2” receiver. After some research I gravitated toward Thule only to find out they had no solution for my above conundrum. In fact their customer service offered no interest in solving my problem which others also must have had. More research…enter Saris! An American made company with an innovative solution. I quickly received my SuperClamp EX-2 from ETrailer along with excellent customer service support. The ease of constructing the unit for use and the obvious structural integrity was immediately apparent. My wife couldn’t believe how easy it was to use and to stow away on my garage wall after use. Thank you Saris and ETrailer for a wonderful product and experience. I guess American made is still alive and well. I highly recommend this product and the associated companies.

This product has been everything my wife and I hoped it would be. Easy to use, easy to store and built with structural integrity. I’m proud to have bought American!

I purchased both the Saris bike rack and Eco hitch from Greg and his team. If it wasn't for the great video from etrailer, it would have been a nightmare. But the video was a great help. The hitch installed in about 2 hrs and the assembly of the Saris rack took only about 20 minutes. The Saris rack feels solid and easy to use. The re-trackable safety cords a bit short but they'll do the trick. I'm very happy with the service I was provided, along with the videos that were available. I'm a happy customer.

From my very 1st call to Madison, 2nd Sarah, 3rd, maybe Jessica and lastly Jimea each one was knowledgeable, helpful & very pleasant. It has been a great experience learning and ordering the right items I needed. They arrived today. Thank you each of you.
Madison the list of appropriate bike racks was very ideal for comparing racks.

Y’ll made it easy for me. THANK YOU!

Excellent customer service and very fast shipping ! Our electric bikes are 60lbs each and one has fat tires and this bike rack is perfect. We put it on our 2000 Lexus LX470. When you move the rack down we can still open both doors in the back ! Hitch is 2”. Can’t say enough good things about this company and the rack

by:

Purchased this bike rack last year and am very pleased with the stability of the rack. The straps and clamps secure the bike well to the rack. Some things that I learned:
When attaching the rack onto your hitch, it helps to put a piece of tape on the rack (hitchtite) once you have lined up the holes. This will make it easier to find the exact location of the holes the next time that you want to use the rack. Finding the exact location allows you to smoothly hand tighten the bolt to the end of the hitch. At that point, just use a socket wrench to finish the tightening.
When putting the bike on the rack, I loosely secure the clamps to the tires at first. This allows me to rotate the tires to find the right location in the wheel well for the straps to go around the spokes. I next secure the bike with the straps and then fininsh securing the clamps to the tires.

by:

Best bike rack I've ever owned. Works perfect with our carbon fiber as the design of this rack is 100% touchless! Secure and sturdy.

by:

I've only used the rack once so far, but I really like it. I used it on a 29er carbon mountain bike. Part of the trip was on a dirt road and also on rough and curvy paved roads. There is some play to the rack (from the hinge point of the rack), but it was quiet, and I don't recall ever hearing it. Nor did it look at any time like my bike was getting shaken to death. To be clear, the attachment of the rack to the hitch is rock solid.

One of the things I really like this rack, and why I chose it over others, is that the integrated bike lock is a pretty beefy cable, and more importantly, it allows me to lock up both wheels and the frame. Many of the integrated locks on other racks only lock up the frame or one wheel, maybe a frame and one wheel, but not all three. I haven't tested the locks trying to lock up the frame and both wheels on two bikes, but it definitely works for one bike.

This rack doesn't fold up as flat as other racks that I've seen, but the security was more important to me.

All in all, I'm really happy with the rack so far. It seems well made and everything moves and operates smoothly.

After a year, I still really love this rack. Ive had my bike on it on some pretty rough roads and it worked great. Not too long ago I got rear ended by a semi not hard and the rack got bent up a bit. The guy who hit me ended up paying for a new rack, which gave me the opportunity to get something different but I replaced it with the same one. So yeah, Id buy it again.

I have owned another version of the Saris bike rack and decided to upgrade to this version. We upgraded to this version so we could carry either our bikes or ebikes. Very pleased with the carrier.

by:

The EX 1.25" is not as stiff as the 2" HD, know that first. The bike-mounting portion is the same as the HD, and excellent and durable, but the 1.25" hitch-mount rocks a little from side-to-side. Still, with the mounting, locking and adjustments (and pricing!) I prefer the SuperClamp to the others I'd researched: One-Up, Thule, Kuat, Yakima. I had no problems transporting two 30+ lb. trail mountain bikes 40+ hours on the road.

For the best mounting success, I suggest upgrading to the 2" hitch HD version if you need more mini-van window clearance, or have very wide MTB bars, as the 2" HD is more stiff. I'll probably need an 8" extender to fit my 2001–06 Honda CR-V, but the 1.25" worked just fine on a Subaru Outback due to its sloped window.

I'd rate the SuperClamp EX as a 5 for securing bikes, locking, and ease of use. It gets a solid 3.5 for the hitch mount on the 1.25" from me (the HD rates a 5,) because I'm not in love with the rocking, though it is just play in the mechanism, and did not concern me a bit with regard to securing or transporting bikes.

The company support was what drives this to a solid 6 rating! Saris never talked down to me when I contacted them about the "looseness" of the 1.25", which doesn't work with my mini-van, but, as mentioned, was fine with the Subaru. Saris support took care of me, discussed options, sent me replacement parts and exceeded expectations. etrailer also helped with their concise sales page, pricing, and other bits of assistance. Both are excellent.

The SuperClamp also looks great with orange Moab dirt on it!

In summary: if you have a sloped-window vehicle with room for the rack to rock a little, the 1.25" is a super value. If you have a tighter tolerance for rack/bike movement at the hitch, get the 2" HD. Also, consider an anti-rattle hitch clamp which adds extra security because a potential thief would have to spend time to remove it, in addition to the Saris' included, lockable, hitch pin. It also helps stabilize any rack on a "loose" hitch.

by:

I purchased this rack because It stated it would support the weight of my 2 electric bikes. The first trip with the rack installed on our motor home it failed after crossing a railroad crossing at 25 mph. The manufacturer told me to read the small print on the rack where it says not for use on any RV. They charged over a $100 for parts to repair it. Using the rack on my jeep or the motor home shouldn't matter. In my opinion the rack is under designed to carry the weight of the bikes as advertised.
In good conscience I can not recommend this rack.

The reason Saris does not recommend using this rack on a motorhome is the extended rear overhang distance between rear axle and rear bumper typically found on motorhomes. This subjects any hitch mounted accessory to greater jarring and bouncing that would be experienced if the rack were used on the rear of a regular passenger vehicle. This extra bouncing exerts forces on the rack that it wasnt designed to withstand. Remember riding in the back seat of the school bus when it went over a big bump when you were a kid? Same principle. We do show in the product description above that the rack is not recommended on motorhomes or towed trailers.

by:

Easy to put on the car and get the bikes installed on the rack. The bikes are stable and one it works fine with one of my bikes which has a fender. My hitch is 2" which requires to me to use a socket wrench to tighten the rack to the hitch. It is easy to do and the rack is secure. I just have to remember to keep the wrench in the car if traveling and I want to remove the rack. We have used the the locking cables when we are parked in a lot. It's a nice feature but not essential since we have other locks too.

by:

Love this hitch, easy to use, great quality! The folding option when not in use is very convenient and the tilt away makes its easy to use the truck bed.

by:

Love this bike rack! It is super simple to use and accommodates both mine and my husband's bike. I can easily install it by myself (I'm small, 5' 120lbs) and load the bikes on without any help. The bikes feel very sturdy. I like that I can still open the hatch (with the bikes off). Would highly recommend!

by:

Product seems to work well, but I have a few issues I would like to note:
The rack, loaded with 1 or 2 bikes has a lot of movement from side to side. It makes me worry about how it will wear over the long run.
Wheel crab does not function with a bike that has a fender.
Doesn't allow two small e-bikes to be mounted.

A stabilizing strap like Item # 18050 will help with the sway. If your e- tires are wider than 4.5 inches then you will need item # SA4419 adapter. The bikes are pretty close together once on, so make sure that you are facing the front of one bike to the right and the front of the other bike to the left to get the best fit.

by:

I am happy with the bike rack, especially at the price. I am very very happy with the service I got at etrailer. The trick is to keep asking questions because they got the answers. It did take a couple extra tools to put it together that I had. The big drawback for me is the bar that cinches the wheels sticks out too far because of my fenders. I haven’t decided whether I want to cut the fender down, or figure out different way to secure the bike. I was really impressed with the steel cables to secure the bikes. I was a little leery on whether a thief could just take a couple bolts off and defeat the whole locking security systems? I’m still working on that too.

by:

Overall, I have been very happy with this rack. I originally bought it for use with a 2018 Honda CRV and have since transferred the rack to a 2021 Toyota 4-Runner. The rack works well with both vehicles. My normal load is one mountain bike and one e-bike and it handles the heavier e-bike quite well. The only complaint I have is the straps used to secure the tires tend to flop over the tire trays and impede the loading of the bikes. One must thread the straps through the lower infrastructure of the bikes before loading the bike. The only other minor issue I have had is the lifting/pealing of the reflective tape placed on the tire trays for the rear bike.

by:

This holds my bikes securely without scratching them. It’s easily adjustable for different bikes. It doesn’t block my backup camera, a real plus. However, the connection between the hitch and the rack worked loose as I drove until I added a Blue Ox immobilizer. Now it’s stable. It’s a relief not to see the bikes swaying in the rear view mirror.

by:

I recently just purchased my first hitch bike rack and chose the Saris Freedom 2 and it delivered! It’s super easy to use, secures my bikes, and folds out of the way when not in use. I feel at ease driving around town or the highways knowing my bike is secure. The hitch lock and rack lock features add extra security too. Definitely hope I’ll have this rack for years to come! 100% recommend for regular bikers or families!

by:

I love the Saris Superclamp EX bike rack…so quick and easy to transport two bikes without any hassle’s. With a little more added modifications to security (on my part), I made it nearly impossible for my 6,000 dollar bikes to be stolen faster off the Saris bike rack itself and also with the receiver, so a lot of hard work and noise has to be made from Potential bike thieves (like from there cutting tools). It’s mostly for the purpose of when I have to leave my bikes for short time periods like stopping to eat at a restaurant ect. I also love how it folds more compact to my car when stowed till needed again later for my bike rides.

by:

I love the new Saris Super Clamp bike rack for 2 bikes that I purchased recently from Etrailer. I particularly like this rack because it allows me to fold the arms down so that I can open the rear trunk of my SUV.

I also cannot say enough about the great service I got from Greg at Etrailer. He kept me informed on when the item was expected to be shipped, and both called and emailed me to make sure I knew when delivery had started and was expected to arrive

by:

I bought this hitch and SARIS bike rack from etrailer so I could mount two bikes on my 2019 Acura RDX. I had a local muffler shop install the hitch, as I didn't have proper tools. it took them 30 mins and $95. Hitch is solid! Looking forward to many years of adventuring! Many thanks, etrailer!

by:

An excellent rack. I needed something really robust as I occasionally transport my 65-lb Ebike, and I needed security features for my high end racing and touring bikes. This rack checked both of those boxes. I am very happy with this purchase.

Love it. Easy to attach and detach, and I am not handy!

  • Hitch Mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2014 Ford F-150 and Fusion
For a 2 bike rack for both your vehicles the Saris SuperClamp EX2 part # SA4025F that you referenced would be a great choice. This is a very versatile rack that would fit both of your vehicles well. This American-made rack uses wheel mounts instead of frame mounts which is the preferred way to secure a bike since it doesn't touch anything but the tires. This is especially important for carbon framed bikes or ones with expensive paint job. Another great feature of this rack is that it...

  • Can Curt Hitches C11174 and C11399 Carry 150 lbs Worth of Bike Rack and Bikes
Both the Curt hitches you referenced part numbers # C11174 and # C11399 have a 200 lb tongue weight capacity so they would work well with a bike rack setup that weighs 150 lbs with the Saris Freedom Superclamp EX part # SA4025F. You still have to use the stabilizer strap like part # 18050 since these racks are non-supported loads. One strap would be all that's necessary.

  • Can Second Bike Holder of RockyMounts WestSlope Bike Rack be Removed
You could leave off installing the outside wheel clamp of the RockyMounts WestSlope bike rack part # RKY10222 but you can't shorten the frame of the rack where the wheel mounts are. For a bike rack with a smaller footprint that can carry up to two bikes that might be more what you are looking for the Saris SuperClamp EX part # SA4025F would be a really good option that's lighter in weight and much smaller overall.

  • Will the Thule X2 Pro XTR Work on a Class I Hitch?
I have a great solution for you. Since Class I hitches only come with a hitch receiver of 1-1/4 inches, the Thule T2 Pro XTR will not fit a Class I hitch. The reason why it won't fit is because the Thule Pro XTR is only made for 2-inch hitch receivers, which come with a rating of Class III, Class IV, and Class V. All of the different classes have different weight ratings that they can hold safely. With that being said, if you want a similar rack to the Thule Pro XTR that will fit a Class...

  • Recommended Class I Bike Rack for Heavy E-Bikes
Thank you and welcome back! Yes, I can confirm that the Saris SuperClamp EX Bike Rack item # SA4025F and your hitch have enough capacity to carry your 55 lbs E-Bike. The Saris has a 60 lbs capacity per bike and does fit a class 1 hitch along with a class II and III if you would like to use it on different vehicles. This is a wheel mounted bike rack that fits tires up to 4-1/2" wide. It has integrated locks to secure both your bike rack and bikes from theft. The Draw-Tite Hitch item #...

  • Best Trailer Hitch Receiver for 2016 Subaru Crosstrek for use With Bike Rack
The best trailer hitch receiver for your 2016 Subaru Crosstrek for you to carry a bike rack is the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver # C13135. The reason is because this 2" hitch will give you the most ground clearance and bumper clearance for your rack compared to the other hitches that fit your Subaru, so you can keep your rack far from your vehicle and free from scraping the ground. This is going to work perfectly with a bike rack such as the Swagman Chinook # S64683, Saris Freedom # SA4412B,...

  • Best Bike Rack Options for Standard Bikes and 2021 Mazda 3 Class I Hitch
Of course! The first thing to keep in mind is that your 2021 Mazda 3 Hatchback will have a Class I hitch like the Curt # C98BR so it does limit some of the options we can use, but there are still plenty of options and I'm confident we have something that you'll both enjoy. For an easy-to-use hanging style bike rack I recommend the Thule Camber # TH9058. This offers premium features that make installation and operation much easier than a lot of other hanging style racks that we offer. Something...

  • Could Saris SuperClamp EX Carry E-Bikes with Fenders
The Saris SuperClamp EX # SA4025F transports bikes with dual wheel-clamping hooks. With full fenders on front and rear wheels being commonplace on eBikes, the placement of the SuperClamp hooks need to be adjusted accordingly, but they will certainly work with together. When a fender is used on the front and/or rear wheel, clamp the hook to the wheel where the fender ends. We also strongly recommend the use of the included front and rear wheel straps, especially when transporting bikes...

  • Trailer Hitch and Bike Rack Recommendation for 2018 BMW X3
I found the picture you mentioned. In it the BMW X3 has the Draw Tite part # 76226 installed. For a bike rack I really like the Saris SuperClamp EX part # SA4025F. This is a platform bike rack that only touches the bike at the tires and only weighs 35 lbs. The biggest drawback to platform bike racks has always been the weight of them, but with this rack you get the best of both worlds. The preferred attachment style with the lighter weight that makes for easy install/removal. Check out...

  • Best Trailer Hitch for Bike Rack on 2016 Audi Q5
The best trailer hitch for a bike rack on your 2016 Audi Q5 is easily the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch # 75940 because it offers the best bumper clearance and ground clearance of the hitches that fit your vehicle. This is a 2" hitch with a concealed crosstube, so not only does it mean your Audi keeps its clean look, but it means the hitch sits up higher and closer to the edge of the bumper than the Curt # C13136. I have added a photo of how this hitch looks when installed on a '16...

  • Where to Measure to Determine if Kuat Sherpa will Fit Hitch and Clear Bumper
The Saris Freedom Superclamp EX2 part # SA4025F is still available. Just wanted to get that out of the way first! On the Kuat Sherpa part # SH22P the closest part of the rack to the hitch pin measures 7-1/2 inches. I am not sure what hitch you have and if both of the pin holes are designed for use as hitch pin holes so you would need to measure again to be sure. Some Draw Tite 2 inch hitches had a second smaller pin hole that was supposed to be used for a J-hook anti-rattle device. If...
