The Freedom has cradles with ratchet straps that hold your bikes by the downtubes, top tubes, or seat posts. These cradles have a rubber lining that won't scratch or scuff your bike's paint. They also have grooves that accommodate brake lines and cables.
The cradles pivot and slide up and down the central masts. This allows the rack to grab your bike's tube at the perfect angle. Twist knobs secure the cradles in place.
The wheel cradles slide to accommodate bikes with different wheelbases. Each cradle has a ratcheting strap so you can secure your bikes' wheels. Extra-long, ratcheting straps secure your bicycle's fat wheels to the trays. Standard cradles are also included so that you can carry 2 standard bikes, 1 standard bike and 1 fat bike, or 2 fat bikes.
You can tilt the rack down with bikes loaded or unloaded to access your vehicle's rear cargo area. Just pull out the front-mounted release lever located at the base of the rack, push down on the lever, and lower the rack until it clicks into place.
You can fold down the upright masts for access to your cargo area when no bikes are loaded. Simply pull the levers and fold the masts down.
You can also fold the rack up against the back of your vehicle with it's not in use. Just fold down the masts, press the release lever, and raise the rack up until it clicks into place.
It installs with a threaded hitch pin that helps prevent rattling around in your vehicle's hitch receiver. An anti-rattle hitch lock (SA3022 - sold separately) helps deter theft of the rack. You can also thread a cable lock (SA981 - sold separately) through the hole in the base of the rack and through your bike frames to secure your bikes to the rack.

This 4-bike rack has large wheel trays that are perfect for carrying fat bikes. You can also carry 2 e-bikes and bikes with fenders. Sliding wheel trays help prevent your bike's handlebars from bumping the saddles.Seems like a good rack for the price, especially when compared to others with the same weight rating. It was very easy to assemble, just a few bolts and that's it.
I put two 62lb e-bikes on it (Ride1Up Turris) and it has minimal wobble and movement as expected. The straps that come on the center cradles were too short to go around our bike's frame and battery so I had to purchase a separate set of long straps from Saris for an additional $20. So be aware if you have an e-bike with a fat frame where you plan to use the cradle on, you might have to spend another $20 on a pair of long straps. While I waited for the straps I just used a velcro-strap and it worked fine.
So far I am content with this rack overall and hope it lasts many years.. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I had to purchase additional straps to make it work.
Great rack. I got a used unit from etrailer that was in like-new condition except for the packaging. It’s heavy-ish but manageable. The only issue is that the hitch tite insert will slide into the rack if you don’t keep it level when lifting into the hitch receiver. I’m using the freedom 4 on my Lexus GX 460, which has a swing out lift gate. Access is minimal with the rack level and the bike in place. It opens about 75% of the way with the bike removed and the rack level. I haven’t actually need to use the tilt function, but it’s nice to have in case need full access is ever needed.
WOW WOW WOW That is what I just kept saying after installing this Saris bike rack.
I have been looking for a bike rack for almost 3-4 months now. Thule and Yakima didn't have what I was looking for. Their solution for a 4-5 bike rack is too complicated, not efficient, and it would be a nightmare to manage on a regular basis.
So I couldn't get myself to pull a trigger on any of those and I kept searching. Finally, I came to eTrailer and found out about Saris. That is where the love starts :)
We are a family of 5 (3 kids and 2 grown-ups). I needed something that will help me load bikes fast, unload them and still be able to have access to the back of my Toyota Sequoia. Saris delivered in every way.
Assemble of the item is straight forward. Instructions are clear and to the point. They even give you a yellow strip that helps you mark where the hitch needs to be in order to align hole openings for easier installation after you install it the first time ;)
The back-up camera is still usable but not 100%. Tilting down the rack with the bikes on it is simple as 1-2-3. There is plenty of room left between the trunk door and the bike as you can see on the pictures.
One HUGE benefit is that you do not need any extra parts for kids bikes. Not like with other brands. Saris delivers tremendously on this part too.
No shaking, rattling, or anything that would make you notice that you have this amazing product on the back of your SUV/truck.
I can't recommend it more. I am just surprised that this product has not been more advertised and represented compared to other products.
I had to put my electric bikes into this rack, backwards, to make them fit. Not ideal, but it works. The receiving 'trays' that are intended to provide support for holding the bikes, by being placed under the bike tires, are forced to be moved to a location that is not directly under the bottom of the bike tires. While it works in this manner, it is not ideal. For the support that attaches to the diagonal bike frame, we had to remove it from the vertical rail of the rack. We reinstalled it, upside down, because that's the only way we could make it fit, or 'grab', the bike frame. Again, we made it work, but it's not ideal.
We chose to keep the rack because it was so much less expensive than the Thule rack we considered buying. The bike shop owner didn't agree with us. He observed that we are putting $3000 worth of bikes on the rack and risking that investment. So far, no problems, other than the ill-fitting installation.
excellent bike rack - easy to use! Similar to other higher end units with excellent durability at a lower price.
this thing is a beast. while i haven't used it as much as i thought i would, i'm really happy with the quality of the rack. would def recommend to others looking for a 4 bike rack.
With a few adjustments this rack has delivered. Needed to add additional strapping since the provide straps for securing the bikes to center bar were not long enough due to my ebike design (Velotric). My bikes are step through with a thick frame so provided straps won't fit. Simple adjustment with strapping resolved minor issue. Speed of 73 mph on the highway and some bumpy VT roads and this rack performed.
Really nice rack, easy to use and adjust. Really does accommodate any size bike and frame size. The only thing I don’t like about it is the bolt and nut that tightens the rack to the hitch is really cheap, it’s an insert instead of being welded to the rack. Because it’s a cheaply made insert it cross threaded on me and ruined it. Now I can’t tighten the rack to the hitch.
Loved our Saris rack that went on the trunk but love having the bike rack on a hitch even more! Now we can take the bikes AND put the top to the convertible up and down as we please :)
Excellent product. Very easy to put together. Just bought 2 new ebikes. Because they have fenders this is the perfect carrier.
Although I have net transported bikes yet ( picking up 2 bikes later today), I do want to share that purchasing it thru etrailer.com was very easy and it shipped very fast to my home. The Sarris Freedom was extremely easy to put together. It took about 10 minutes, basicly 3 bolts. Its very sturdy yet light, not bulky. Looks easy to store in my garage when not in use. Straps and wheel holders appear to be very well built. Got it on sale and the price was very good. Looking forward to trying it out later when picking up 2 new bikes. I plan on transporting somewhat locally between 5 and 25 miles each way. Initial feeling its a very nice rack.
This product works very well for the type of bikes we got (Electra Townie men’s and woman’s). Not the best rack for the type of vehicle (2013 Jeep Wrangler). Unable to open back hatch to let dog out until the bikes are off the rack. First trip was 600 miles with bikes in tow and didn’t even know they were there. I love the fact that this is a American made product. I am happy with my purchase. Thanks to the support staff at etrailer it was a great experience
Etrailers website was easy to use and the product choices were great. We found the exact product that we were looking for to accommodate our two folding "Bike Fridays". We will use the rack on the back of our Mazda CX-5 and on the front of our Ford F450 pu truck. Your service was outstanding shipping, tracking and delivery. The onsite videos were helpful. Thank you very much. Pics are attached.
Great bike rack. Very secure/stable and like the locking pin/bolt. Everything I hoped for to secure my wife's ebike and my good old fashion human powered model!
Bike rack works great for my truck. I was able to load all the bikes and still fold down the tail gate which was real important to me. Folds up easy when not in use.
I would also like to thank etrailer for getting the bike rack shipped out quickly. It arrived the day before I had to leave on vacation which made loading up the truck a lot easier.
Got the hitch and rack. Informative site, helps you choose and answers your questions. Great follow up.
Excellent bike rack, great service from etrailer
This is a great 4 bike rack. It fits perfectly a 2019 BMW X5. Bikes are very easy to mount and dismount.
Simple assembly & straightforward instructions. Bike fit is a bit tight (2 fat tire Electra Townies), but isn't a hassle. Haven't tested yet due to weather, but so far so good.
Perfect, works on my e-bikes even with 3-inch tires, just I have to use longer straps. Love it.
Came with a broken plastic clamp part. Also not sturdy enough for our ebikes. I will be returning it.
There are several tricks you need to learn about loading bikes on the rack, but with a little repetition it gets quicker and easier. This rack replaced an earlier one and provided more weight capacity for electric bikes instead of pedal ones. It has served very well, especially for the PRICE. The maker's long experience shows, and the little details of the design are what sets it apart. Made in USA helps as well. We like it a lot.
Fits the bike and truck perfectly! Very quick shipping. Easy assembly and installation.
I have found it very difficult to fit 2 e bikes on the rack without them interlocking. Perhaps I need better instructions on its use. I only used it once in the year.
I received my Freedom 2 rack yesterday. It took me about 10 minutes to assemble it with no issues at all. This morning, I put the rack on the back of my 2014 Ford Explorer, and began to load my bike. The rack attached easily to my 2" hitch receiver, and when I tightened the bolt, it was a very sturdy and stable fit. I made the adjustments required to mount my bike on the rack, and found that it traveled securely and very stable. My only issue with the Freedom 2 is the hold-down straps on the wheel and tube brackets. I think a better ratcheting system and a better qualitty strap would greatly enhance the unit. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the rack. My carbon fibre hybrid and my grandson's road bikes will be easily transported to wherever we want to ride!
