The Freedom gives you the liberty to rapidly load and safely transport 4 bikes of nearly any shape, size, or style on your vehicle's 2" hitch. This easy-to-use, platform-style rack is loaded with features, including cradles and straps that grip your bikes by their frames and a conveniently located lever that lets you tilt the rack down by yourself without having to unload your bikes.
You'll sleep tight knowing that your bikes are lovingly cradled in Saris' patent-pending Cuscinos - or pillows. These pillows are built into the ratcheting straps that hold your bikes by the downtubes, top tubes, or seat posts in the rubber-lined cradles. These straps are specially designed to avoid scratching or scuffing your bike paint during transport. The rubber-lined cradles also have grooves that accommodate brake lines and cables.
The cradles pivot and slide up and down the central masts. This allows the rack to grab your bike's tube at the perfect angle. Plastic twist knobs secure the cradles in place.
Injection-molded plastic wheel trays slide along the rack's horizontal arms to accommodate bikes with different wheelbases. These trays secure in place with plastic twist knobs. Ratcheting plastic straps secure your bike's wheels to the trays.
If you want to carry a fat bike on the Freedom, you can replace the rack's wheel trays with fat bike cradles (SA4419 - sold separately). Or, if you want to carry 2 recumbent bikes, you can replace the horizontal arm closest to your vehicle with a longer arm (SA4415B - sold separately) that accommodates recumbents with up to 57" wheelbases.
You can tilt the rack down and fold the rack up with a front-mounted push lever.
You can tilt the rack down with bikes loaded or unloaded to access your vehicle's rear cargo area. Just pull out the threaded bail pin located at the base of the rack, push down on the lever, and lower the rack until it clicks into place. This should provide enough clearance for the hatch to fully open and close.
You can also fold down the upright masts for access to you cargo area when no bikes are loaded. Simply pull the integrated levers and fold the masts down to the left or right.
You can fold the rack up against the back of your vehicle with it's not in use. Just fold down the masts, press the front-mounted lever, and raise the rack up until it clicks into place.
The included threaded hitch pin helps to prevent the rack from moving and rattling around in your vehicle's hitch receiver. An anti-rattle hitch lock (SA3022 - sold separately) is recommended to deter theft of the rack.
You can thread a cable lock (SA981 - sold separately) through the hole in the base of the rack and through your bike frames to secure your bikes to the rack.

Platform-style rack has cradles with cushioned straps that grip your bike frames, sliding wheel trays, and a push lever that lets you tilt the rack down without unloading your bikes.WOW WOW WOW That is what I just kept saying after installing this Saris bike rack. I have been looking for a bike rack for almost 3-4 months now. Thule and Yakima didn't have what I was looking for. Their solution for a 4-5 bike rack is too complicated, not efficient, and it would be a nightmare to manage on a regular basis. So I couldn't get myself to pull a trigger on any of those and I kept searching. Finally, I came to eTrailer and found out about Saris. That is where the love starts :) We are a family of 5 (3 kids and 2 grown-ups). I needed something that will help me load bikes fast, unload them and still be able to have access to the back of my Toyota Sequoia. Saris delivered in every way. Assemble of the item is straight forward. Instructions are clear and to the point. They even give you a yellow strip that helps you mark where the hitch needs to be in order to align hole openings for easier installation after you install it the first time ;) The back-up camera is still usable but not 100%. Tilting down the rack with the bikes on it is simple as 1-2-3. There is plenty of room left between the trunk door and the bike as you can see on the pictures. One HUGE benefit is that you do not need any extra parts for kids bikes. Not like with other brands. Saris delivers tremendously on this part too. No shaking, rattling, or anything that would make you notice that you have this amazing product on the back of your SUV/truck. I can't recommend it more. I am just surprised that this product has not been more advertised and represented compared to other products. 655654
I assembled the Saris Freedom 4 bike and upon mounting the 3rd bike, the tire holder just snapped. I didn't even hit the road (thank goodness), it was a test mount after first assembly. I can't imagine if I was actually driving and I hit a bump and this occurred on the highway. Another reviewer stated the wheel mounts cracked and Saris sent them a set, but this isn't good enough for me. This is a safety issue and this product should be recalled. The plastic is brittle and unacceptable. I'm returning right away. 922569

Bike rack seems perfect for our needs. I haven't gotten a chance to use it yet (weather), but I put it together and tried out our bikes on it. 2 adult hybrids, a 20" kids mountain bike and a 16" kids mountain bike. Everything fit perfectly - way better than I've seen with other racks. I agree with the other reviews that positioning everything is tedious, but if you keep the same bike alignment, it's a one-time annoyance. Might up to 5 stars after I actually use the thing (or lower), but for now, 4 feels right. One of the wheel cups did arrive damaged, but I called etrailer while I was putting it together and they mailed me out a replacement that day. Great customer service! Note: This is one of the lightest 4 bike racks I looked into and I'm glad I did. 50 pounds is a lot to line up with a hitch receiver as is. I'm pretty sure I would need help installing the thing if I went with a heavier rack. 905416
We have very expensive road bikes. This rack has lots of secure locking sites and is really sturdy! Bikes do not wobble or bounce around. Great carrier! 903914
The review is about the product and not etrailer. The product does what it says. the directions could have been a bit clearer. tried it out and works fine. I'm not sure that I would pay for a tilting rack the next time as I think that it's just too much. Etrailer - WOW. talk about customer service. this is a company to do business with if there is a choice. there is so much good information to use for research purposes (eg videos, pictures), easy ordering, follow up emails during ordering process etc. 903605
This is a great 4 bike rack. It fits perfectly a 2019 BMW X5. Bikes are very easy to mount and dismount. 866804
Rack is perfect for all 4 of our mountain bikes. 3 adult and 1 kids (20 inch). Very happy with the sturdy construction and ease of set up. 811340
I really wish I had gone with a different option. This rack is functional and secure, but annoyingly difficult to use. It takes a while just to get all the different cradles and straps positioned right for your configuration of bikes. And then it is difficult getting them loaded with those uprights in the middle, and not much clearance between bikes. A lot of fiddling with pedals and adjusting seat heights to make it work each time. If you have a different configuration of bikes you have to redo everything. The ratcheting straps stick really bad, which gets frustrating. I guess I expected more from a $500+ rack. Not a lot of pros that I can think of. 775790
This is a great platform rack. It is super easy to set up and adjust. It was actually exactly what I was looking for. After mounting it on the truck, I positioned each bike where I wanted it and adjusted it accordingly. When it came time to use it I loaded all 4 bikes in about 5 minutes. The reason I gave 4 stars instead of five is I had one of the tire trays break the first time I used it. I hope this was just a defective part and not an indication of poor quality. etrailer did an amazing job getting the part replaced and quickly sent to me. Overall I would recommend. 719044
Package arrived sooner than expected! Thanks! Bike rack was easy to assemble. Looking to haul 4 bikes around, this will make life easier. More time on the bikes and less messing with the rack. Plus, it stores in the folded position keeping it out of the way, on the back of your vehicle or in the garage. We have a truck camper and for the first time will take all 4 bikes and be able to to access the back door of the camper with the tilt down function. 590826
We are very happy with our bike rack. Highly recommend! 542989
Well built, easy to put together, I’ve used it to haul 4 bikes for a few 100 plus mile trips and so far I have no complaints. 540731
Purchasing the product, pricing and speed of delivery were all awesome. Have used etrailer before and they have always been great. Assembling the bike rack was not too difficult. Their instruction manual could use a little work though. It took some decifering to figure out. But I LOVE the bike rack. Much easier to use than any previous bike rack I have owned. And it can stay on the vehicle for extended periods, without being bothersome. I LOVE IT! 501659
Love this rack! 208735
Bike rack works great for my truck. I was able to load all the bikes and still fold down the tail gate which was real important to me. Folds up easy when not in use. I would also like to thank etrailer for getting the bike rack shipped out quickly. It arrived the day before I had to leave on vacation which made loading up the truck a lot easier. 146064

I needed a bike rack to fit on my Jeep Wrangler that has 37 in tires and deep fuel wheels. This item with the extension, fit perfectly even with a backup camera on my bolts for my 37 in. Toyo spare tire. I am able to detach it with one screw and it is lightweight, so i only have bolt it on, add bike(s) and go. Easy to install minus the fact a 37 inch tire weighs a lot. Etrailer.com didn’t have the extension part in stalk but kept me informed of every step of the way. I still received it within 5 business days with customer service followed it all the way through. Great company. 572296

I received my Freedom 2 rack yesterday. It took me about 10 minutes to assemble it with no issues at all. This morning, I put the rack on the back of my 2014 Ford Explorer, and began to load my bike. The rack attached easily to my 2" hitch receiver, and when I tightened the bolt, it was a very sturdy and stable fit. I made the adjustments required to mount my bike on the rack, and found that it traveled securely and very stable. My only issue with the Freedom 2 is the hold-down straps on the wheel and tube brackets. I think a better ratcheting system and a better qualitty strap would greatly enhance the unit. Otherwise, I'm very happy with the rack. My carbon fibre hybrid and my grandson's road bikes will be easily transported to wherever we want to ride! 391673
Review from a similar Freedom in Hitch Bike Racks
Completely inadequate for my application (heavier-than average eBikes; within the weight specifications of this Saris Freedom rack). eTrailer customer service should have advised against this rack, and for one more suitable for the task. But eTrailer did not recommend a more suitable rack. The rail from the hitch receiver to the rack is too long - on my installation, at least eight inches of wobbly lever could be removed and there would still be plenty of clearance between the rack and my vehicle bumper. That cartoonishly-long lever evokes the memory of Archimedes' long lever to move the world - in the case of this Saris Freedom rack, that long lever just makes the bikes and the rack wobble unacceptably. Of course, if the end-user modifies the rack in an attempt to do the design engineering job that was not done in Madison, WI, the lifetime warranty is voided. Replaced this rack with a Thule Easyfold. Way more money, but it does the job because it was designed to do the job. 420946

I bought this rack for several reasons, including its price point and light weight. I also like where its designed and made. The American flag on the back is a nice touch. I also wanted a solid platform rack that would hold two bikes securely for long road trips and highway speeds. I didn't see much need for a heavier tilt-away rack since I can easily access the rear of my small hatchback through the back the seats. This hitch is easy to assemble and ready to go in minutes. Its light weight makes it easy to slide into the hitch and the threaded hitch pin holds the rack tight. I also bought a cheap socket wrench and a deep 19mm socket to keep in the car. There is still a small amount of side to side wobble when the bikes are loaded, but not much. You won't notice any wobble when driving unless the road is really rough. Be sure to check out ETrailer's road test video of this rack. This is a good sturdy rack. I also got the hitch strap that Curt recommends to secure the center upright support to the car. I also recommend getting the Saris locking hitch pin and cable combo with matching keys. This rack does not fold up completely because the hitch arm is fixed, but its still light and easy to move around and store. And you could always take the hitch arm off for longer term winter storage. It does take some fiddling to get the tire mounts and drop bar mounts lined up for each bike so if you have four different bikes like I do, you'll find yourself doing that quite often. Eventually I will memorize the locations for each or mark them somehow on the rack. My two large road bikes fit like a glove but I could see there being some difficulty with getting seats and handle bars to clear sometimes, which means more time fiddling with the mounts when loading up a friend's bike. I also like how well centered the bikes are and how little side overhang I'm able to achieve, which is also important for long road trips and highway speeds (less drag = better mpg). All of my bikes are well centered and only my big 29" mountain bike with its long wheelbase sticks out to the side much. On the downside, but not for me, it does take some strength to lift the inside bike up and over the center support, and doing so carefully without hitting the back of your car. This could be a problem for some, especially if you have a big heavy townie or mountain bike. This is also dependent on how high your hitch receiver is off the ground. Mine happens to be very low to the ground so I don't have to lift the bikes as high as I would on a larger SUV for example. So other platform racks may be a better choice if you're concerned about lifting your bike up to or over shoulder height just to get it on the rack. To sum it up, the Saris Freedom 2 is a great rack for a good price and I couldn't be happier with my purchase, and for all the great info and advice from the wonderful people at Etrailer.com to make it so easy! Etrailer rocks! 346699
