Note: This dual-arm rack reduces the need for a bike frame adapter bar (sold separately) to mount a children's, women's, or alternative frame bicycle. However, to mount certain bikes or to keep your bike level on the rack, a bike adapter bar may be required. Most step-through bikes, dual-suspension bikes, and small children's bikes will require a bike adapter bar.
The Bones Hitch lets you carry 4 bikes on the back of your vehicle. This sturdy steel bike rack has anti-sway cradles, a tilting design, and can fit both 1-1/4" (Class II only) and 2" hitches.
The Bones Hitch has arched dual arms that ensure optimal ground clearance and provide better bike support than single-arm racks. They are designed to accommodate women's, children's, and alternative bike frames better. The arched design also allows your bikes to hang at different heights to prevent handlebars and pedals from tangling. These injection-molded plastic arms are extremely strong and are constructed of 100-percent recycled materials.
The adjustable arms are mounted on a smooth horizontal tube with grooves at each end. To raise or lower an arm, loosen the plastic twist knob and slide the arm off the grooved section and onto the smooth, inner part of the tube. Rotate the arm to the desired position, slide it back onto the grooves, and tighten the knob back down to lock the arm in place.
The arms also fold down when the rack is not in use.
There are 2 soft plastic cradles with dual-molded plastic ratcheting straps that secure your bikes to the rack by the top tube. The lower anti-sway strap pivots to grab your bike's seat tube or down tube to minimize lateral motion, preventing your bikes from hitting each other and your vehicle during transport.
The Bones Hitch's mast can be tilted forward when your bikes are unloaded for easy access to your vehicle's rear cargo area. Just pull the yellow handle at the base of the rack to tilt it away from your vehicle, providing clearance to open and close the hatch door. When you return the rack to the upright position, you will hear an audible click to confirm that the mast is locked in place.
The threaded hitch pin helps prevent the rack from moving and rattling around in your vehicle's hitch receiver. And the included aluminum adapter sleeve ensures that the Bones Hitch will fit both 1-1/4" and 2" hitches. An anti-rattle hitch lock (SA3022 - sold separately) and cable lock (SA981 - sold separately) are recommended to deter theft of the rack and your bikes.

The rack will be used primarily for me to transport my bike to training rides and triathlons. Occasionally, we will transport 1-3 additional bikes if my husband or sons want to go on a ride. In the past, I had to remove my front wheel in order to fit my bike inside my 2013 Toyota Highlander, and we weren't getting more than one bike in there. I went with the Saris based on the recommendation of a triathlon coach/mountain biker.
My husband and I mounted the rack onto the car without difficulty. It is easy enough to get on or off by myself, which is useful since we will not be leaving on the car permanently. Thankfully, with it mounted, and the arms folded down, my 2013 Highlander fits into the garage with no problem. One useful feature that I discovered is the ability to position the arms closer together for my shorter bike. I attached photos of the arms attached all the way wide, or a little narrower.
I noticed just a minor amount of movement of the rack while I drove, but it was mostly while I went through a construction zone that has a lot of bumps. Even then, it didn't seem unstable. Additionally, I used a small bungee cord to strap the front tire to the cross bar of the bike, to reduce the movement of that tire.
I would recommend the Saris Bones Hitch without reservation.
The rack isn't up to previous saris standards IMO.
Assembly screws where difficult to use.
Holds 3 light bikes comfortably. Adjusting semi rigid straps a bit difficult for me, depending on angle. Hitch rattles some tho I imagine it needs this amount of "give." Recommded by a friend I trust.
Saris bones hitch bike rack: Service representative who took my order was very good and made sure that I got the product within 3 business days. nice sturdy product, but the directions to put it together were a bit confusing. Got it wrong first try. I would recommend it to a friend.

It has been pretty stable when using the Saris Bones 2. A little bit of a learning curve to use, but once you understand, it is very easy to use. It is very well made and I am very happy with the quality of service from etrailer.com

It is well designed, relatively intuitive (the installation videos on their webs site are a great help), and very stable when mounted on our car (We have a Volvo station wagon). I wish it had better strap management. When mounted on our car, there are four long lengths of unused strap that need to be coiled and stored so that don't flap around. I don't want to cut off the spare strap lengths because that would preclude using it mounted on a conventional trunk.

This product works very well and is solid. The first couple of times I used it, especially the first, it was complicated to figure out. But now I really enjoy how it folds up pretty small to fit in my trunk. I recommend it.

While getting a bike rack for a sports car isn't ideal, I really wanted to transfer my bike with my own car instead of borrowing my friend's pickup truck. After hours of trying to find a bike rack that would be good for my 07 Mustang, I decided to give this one a try and I gotta say, it has been pretty good so far. It fits very well over the factory spoiler. One of my biggest concerns I was worried about when ordering a rack for my Mustang was ruining the paint, but the feet on the legs haven't left one scratch. I have used this to transfer my bike at freeway speeds (up to 80 mph) on car rides that typically last an hour and my bike was perfectly secure throughout each ride. For extra security, I wrapped both bike wheels with a ratchet strap so the wheels and pedals wouldn't shift in transit. So far, I am very pleased with this bike rack for the price and quality. I would highly recommend this if you want a rack that is affordable and durable.

So far I have driven about 400 miles using the Saris Bones 3 bike rack on our Honda CRV and it has worked very well. There were some reviews from people who had bad experiences but I think it is because they didn't purchase the hatch huggers for the upper straps as recommended. Also on the side straps the hooks need to go between the plastic molding and the metal of the lift back otherwise they don't seat all the way. We drove though so rough road construction and the straps didn't loosen a bit. I'm very happy with this rack.

Super customer service from Etrailer. They kept me up-to-date about my order. My bike rack arrived ahead of schedule. Etrailer is the only retailer that guaranteed delivery of product. Everyone else listed it as out-of-stock.

Clears the spoiler and keeps the bikes away from the car. I am totally thrilled that I bought this bike carrier.

The bike rack is sturdy~ to reduce “sway”, be sure to secure all of the clamps as securely as possible~

Not a secure bike rack for an Audi A5. The first was too loose to use.

I wanted to take my bike to some trails and so this solved the problem! Pretty easy to attach to my car. So far, I’ve transported one bike with it on my 2017 Prius. The side straps don’t really have a place to hook on but I called for assistance and was told the side straps aren’t as essential as the top and bottom ones. I found a spot to attach the side straps just in case; but relied more on the top and bottom ones.
When we got to our destination, it did require a little work to remove the top hooks from my car. Haven’t taken it on a highway yet but it looks like it should be good!

Disappointed in this bikerack. I got it specifically for my Prius, as the curved frame fits over the spoiler. Unfortunately there is no where on the trunk or frame of the card where the side straps can attach. The top strap and bottom ones fit tightly but without the tension of these side straps the bike rack will not stay evenly on the car. Almost lost my bike on several occasions After lots of gerryrigging, I discovered if I quickly slammed the trunk with the side straps hanging loosely in the trunk, I should catch the straps and tighten them. This seems to work. Also no matter how hard I tighten it, the center arm (which lies against the rear window) does not stay in place, but slides off center. The rack works fine, with lots of gerryrigging. But should be easier to use given the price. Also be aware, that if your Prius has a rear view camera, this will have to be disengaged eveeytime you back up with the bike rack and bike in place, or your car will automatically brake if you try to backup.

I have been using the Saris Bones 2 Bike Rack Trunk Mount for a year now. It is so easy to use. It takes just minutes to put in on my car and load the bikes on. I'm very happy with this purchase.

this is a very easy to use, solid bike rack. Up to this point I've only used it for one bike, but I'm sure it provides good support for two if needed.

I like it because it fits my car (2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid), which my old one didn't. However, in using it several times, I do have a few suggestions for a version two. I wish it were a bit lighter and folded up more easily for storage in my car trunk. I also wish that the pads resting on the bumper were a bit narrower because they get caught against the trunk and then the trunk won't close. Finally, the straps are a bit long. If they could somehow be made retractable, that would be better.
