Versatile Bike Rack for Your RV

Swagman Dispatch

5th Wheels, motorhomes, and travel trailers have different suspensions than standard commuter vehicles. The Dispatch is designed to handle the extra bounce and sway that results from being placed further away from your vehicle's rear axle. It also gives your bikes 5" higher clearance than most other RV-rated platform racks. But it's not just for your RV. You can also install it in the 2" hitch on your car, truck, or SUV.

Padded, Ratcheting Hooks

Swagman Dispatch Ratcheting Hooks

The Dispatch's mast has a pair of ratcheting hooks that hold your bikes securely by the top tube. And because they move independently, you can carry bikes of different shapes and sizes. The hooks have soft padding that won't scratch or scuff your bike's paint.

Sliding Wheel Cradles with Ratcheting Straps

Swagman Dispatch Adjustable Wheel Cradles

The wheel cradles slide to accommodate bikes with different wheelbases. Hand knobs let you release the cradles to slide along the bike tray and adjust for your specific bike lengths. Each cradle has a ratcheting strap so you can secure your bikes' wheels during transport. If you need to carry fat bikes, there are cradles (sold separately) that let you carry bikes with tires up to 5" wide.

Folding Design

Swagman Dispatch Folding Design

You can fold the mast down for easy access to your rear cargo area. Simply pull the spring-loaded release lever at the base of the mast and fold it down in either direction.

We have traveled several thousand miles using this hitch and have had no problems at all. We use it both on the back of our travel trailer and passenger car and it is rock solid, the bikes are always held securely in place. The only issue that we have had with it is when we first got it the shank was mis-manufactured and the locking bolt broke inside the shank. We contacted etrailer and they replaced the shank in a few days. Other than this one issue it had benn a great rack and I would definately recommend it.

by:

Seem heavy duty. Have not used it to transported my bikes. The only difficulty I had with the assembly dealt with the wheel cradles. They are not labeled left and right, front and rear. After installation, I discovered that one side of the cradle is higher ,viewing your videos I noticed that you put the higher end on the outside of both wheels. The aventon bikes weight 38 pounds with their battery removed. And this rack is rated at 45 pounds per bike. Therefore I think this rack will be able to transport my bikes safely on my Subaru Outback and my Forest River motorhome.

I installed it on the back of my Forest River Motorhome and it has served me well. Traveled from PA to CA and back. I discovered the extra security cable that I purchased separately rubbed the paint off of both bike, I no longer use that cable.

@Fred We're happy to hear that your Swagman # S44FR Dispatch bike rack is still working well for you!

by:

This rack is great. We got it because we can use it on our pickup truck and our travel trailer. Works great on both. Very sturdy and well made. I had to add padding under the clamp on our down tubes as I noticed some wear on the paint after a long trailer trip. We carry 2 40 pound e-bikes with ease. The support staff at Etrailer was very helpful at helping us choose the right rack for our needs!

by:

Excellent bike carrier for the back of our travel trailer. Very stable. We lost a bike once and now we can travel, stress-free, knowing our bikes are secure.

We are loving it. Very stable.

by:

I previously owned a Swagman bike rack and am just as happy with the new purchase of the RV approved bike rack. Assembly instructions were easy to follow. Sturdy construction. Nice to have the locking hitch pin as well as locking mechanism to keep the bikes secure while traveling and parked! I have used the rack on my travel trailer as well as on the back of my vehicle. Very pleased with this purchase.

by:

I want to thank you for shipping same day as order and having it to me in 2 days. The carrier exceeded my expectations and etrailer always exceeds my customer service expectations.

by:

I installed it in the rear of our travel trailer. I had to install a welded hitch which was more money than the rack. I love the rack! We traveled 15K miles with it without any issues. It’s heavy, well made, and the coating is durable. Highly recommended.

by:

We purchased this a year ago for the back of our teardrop trailer. It's one of the few that are trailer rated.

We have used this to bring our bikes with us camping. It has been amazing and fits perfectly on our trailer. After learning how to used it, which did not take long, it was very easy to attach and put our bikes on. We have the wheels set for specific bikes, my wife is on the inside and my bike is on the outside. The wheels are set to the size of the bike. Everything worked as described. I would buy it again.

Its worked great! We like how the bike rack locks onto the hitch. We use torque wrench to make sure its not too tight. The bikes also sit very nicely on the rack with a place for the tires to rest. We have taken this bike rack on the back of our tear trailer on many trips, driven a couple of thousand miles with them back there. The bike rack is easy to install on the vehicle and easy to put the bikes on it. We have had other bike racks and this one is the easiest by far and the most secure.

by:

This hitch mount Dispatch bike rack is the answer to carrying my two bikes on the back of my 5th wheel. There is a marked difference between a rack not rated for use behind a trailer and this one that is. The assembly was straight forward and completed in about 30 minutes. This included some trial and error getting the wheel baskets on in the correct order. Overall very pleased with theDispatch rack and can’t wait to use it.

by:

This holds our two E-bikes perfectly behind our Jeep and while the Jeep is a toad. So far we have taken one drive of 300 miles.
The one issue we have is the locking cable with lock pin does not fit on the Jeep. It is too long. We had to use the regular pin that was also included. We are able to use the locking cable to lock the bikes to the Jeep though.

by:

Outstanding. 4500 miles hauling bikes behind fifth wheel. You do have to watch how you have pedals set. Pedals will rotate and hit latch and cause the hold down bracket to come loose.

Phillip

Still working great. Great bike rack for the price. Never have any issues.

by:

We have owned this bike rack for a year. It is easy to use, well designed, and the most impressive thing is how tight everything fits together. The bikes move very little when mounted and it is easy to get the bikes on and off. The way this bike rack is made keeps it from scratching or marring the bikes. It is also only one. of a very few that is rated to be used with a travel trailer. We would definitely recommend this bike rack!

5/25/2023

Had this for a year, it is the most stable bike rack I have ever used! Securely holds the bikes and does not move or rattle! If you are hauling on the back of a travel trailer or Fifthwheel this is the rack to have!

by:

Awesome bike rack. This works perfectly for us. Had to reverse the arms for a better fit but bikes didn’t move at all during our maiden 300 mile trip. Very sturdy construction and easy to assemble. I sent in a few questions and Mark answered them without hesitation and that alone sold me on the purchase. Mark was very knowledgeable. Thanks

by:

It is an excellent Bike Rack. It is well engineered, well built, fits the hitch well, and the bikes fit well on it. It is everything that I had hoped for in a Bike Rack.

by:

i have purchased several items from etrailer.. i just purchased a swagman 2 bike rack for the 5th wheel. i talked with matthew..very informative and professional..i was suppose to recieve it on the 31st but got it on the 27th. put it together in about 1/2 hr..i have nothing but "GOOD" to say about these people and etrailer service...

8/29/2021

its great. very sturdy never worry about the bikes while traveling. made well

by:

Perfect hitch for on the back of our fifth wheel. Our bikes don't bounce during travel and I love that they can be locked so that they remain secure during our stops. No complaints.

by:

This is a solid bike rack. Assembly and installation was easy. One issue I have is that, the rack is so high that when the bikes are on the rack and covered, the taillights on the rv are partially blocked by it. I hope I don’t get pulled over for a safety violation

Joseph

7/12/2022

Works great! Gone about 10k miles with bike rack on back of my rv. Just recently I had to tighten the bolt that secures the rack to the hitch, otherwise no issues

by:

The rack exceeded my expectations. I attach it to my Winnebago Travato and my Jeep Wrangler. Using aluminum stock I made a tail light bar (the bikes can interfere with vehicle lighting) and a means to attach a plastic sewer hose tube for the RV. I do have a question. Is my rack as built capable of carrying electric bikes?

Etrailer Expert

Brooke M.

5/30/2022

Thanks for the review and that is a good question. This rack is rated for forty five pounds per bike and the cradles fit tires up to three inches. If your electric bike is heavier and has wider tires, then you may like part # S64678. It close in price, holds two bikes, is the same brand, but is meant to carry heavy e bikes up to sixty pounds each with cradles to fit tires up to five inches wide.

by:

We use this hitch with two 45# E-Bikes on the back of our Class C motorhome. So far we're very happy with it! The hitch is very sturdy and bikes seem safe and sound on it!

by:

Great bike rack. It is heavy but built heavy duty to take the bouncy end of an RV. We mount ours on a 41ft 5th wheel and the bikes remain snug and secure when we get to our destination.

by:

I Waited an eternity to get this product, but it was worth the wait. Exactly what I needed. Strong, Easily assembled, easy to install, easy to load bikes on. It handles my E bike with ease. Wish the purchase were easier; I had to wait months for delivery after my purchase through e-trailer.

Paul

5/30/2022

Great - does everything I want. Works well on the travel trailer as well.

by:

This RV approved solution works great for us. We have a 42 ft 5th wheel and the bikes and hitch do not sway or move while we travel. Bikes are easy to mount. I added tie down strap between the rack frame and hitch frame for safety purposes in addition to what the hitch provides. Delivery was delayed a few months which is not an etrailer issue. Julie H did a great job keeping me in the loop.

by:

This is a solid and easy to use bike tray we keep on the rear of our 30' travel trailer. 2 MTB bikes go on it and we've had zero issues. The bike cable could be a little easier to use as you need to take the receiver bolt out to lock and unlock it, but it's extremely beefy. We bought a cover to go over the bikes while on it so everything stays dry and secure. We do some long trips (1k+ miles each way) with it. I also found that I had to move our bumper mounted spare tire to underneath the camper as, no matter how I positioned it or the bikes, it interfered with a pedal or handlebar. I love how quickly (if not covered or locked it's only a minute) I can load and unload 2 bikes now.

by:

After a year of use, moving it back a forth from 5th wheel to truck as needs arise, have found this rack to be very solid and easy to move( you do need a wrench though). Rack doesn’t bounce around when mounted on back of 5th wheel like some others I’ve seen. The locking cable is easy to use and heavy duty. I’d recommend this rack for use on back of any RV with a receiver hitch. Also it’s quick to adjust if you need change bikes your carrying.

by:

Heavy (45 lbs) and heavy duty! Well made, nearly all welded (minimum bolts involved, the cradles for the tires are metal (not plastic), and a nice flat powder coated finish. Excellent shipping packaging. I can see why it's rated for the back bumper of an RV where it will be subjected to a lot of extremes. With the weight of this and the weight of the bicycles, I added the Mount-n-Lock SafetyStruts RV Bumper Support Brackets to aid the bumper in carrying this weight. So far, so good.

  • Swagman Bike Rack for Use on Towed Vehicle
I do have a great option for you, however the Swagman Chinook 2 Bike Platform Rack # S64683 referenced in your question is not rated for use at the rear of a towed vehicle. The ride at the back of your towed Jeep Grand Cherokee is going to be quite a bit different than at the rear of the RV or a standard passenger vehicle and this can put more stress on the rack during travel. Because of this only certain carriers are tested and approved for this application. If you want to use the Swagman...

We do have a bike rack that is rated for travel trailers. It's the Swagman Dispatch, part # S44FR. It's a platform style rack that can handle 4 bikes up to 45 pounds each.
