Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack In Use

The Yakima HoldUp is a premium, tray-style bike rack that lets you carry 2 bikes using your vehicle's hitch. This rack is specifically designed to carry bikes with big tires and wide handlebars, but it will carry just about any bike, including those with wheels from 20" to 29", carbon frames, disc brakes, thru axles, or full suspensions.

Wheel-Mount Design for Easy Bike Loading

Yakima 8002443 HoldUp Bike Rack Large Front Wheel Holders

The HoldUp is easy to load, even if your bikes have monster wheels. The deep, contoured front wheel cradles accommodate just about any wheel out there, and the pivoting arms with StrongArm technology ensure that your bikes are held firmly in place.

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack Ratcheting Arm

To load a bike, simply place your front wheel in the holder, rotate the pivoting arm up and over the wheel, and press down firmly on the ratcheting hook. To release the hook, simply press the built-in red button and slide the hook up and off your wheel.

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack Adjustable Rear Wheel Cradles

Large rear wheel holders allow the HoldUp to accommodate a wide variety of bike wheelbases. These wheel holders pivot front to back, adjusting automatically to your wheel size - no need for sliding and tightening. Secure the wheels in place with the ratcheting straps built into each holder.

Yakima HoldUp Ratcheting Arm No Frame Contact

Mounting bikes by the wheels helps prevent any scratches or scuffs to the paint. The ratcheting hooks are padded, however, so they won't mark your wheels. And the pivot mechanisms in the arms are overbuilt to ensure they keep functioning smoothly over a lifetime of hard use.

Fully Adjustability Bike Trays

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Adjustable Bike Trays

The wheel trays on the HoldUp are fully adjustable to ensure that you have all the space you need when mounting bikes with mammoth handlebars, such as a 29er. To adjust a wheel tray, loosen the 4 bolts where the tray attaches to the rack base and slide the tray left or right to achieve the desired spacing. Retighten the bolts and you're ready to roll with optimum handlebar clearance and no fear of bike-to-bike contact during transport.

Complete Security

Yakima 8002443 HoldUp Bike Rack Built-in Cable Locks

The HoldUp has a cable lock built into the end of each pivoting arm. These cables loop through your bike frames and attach to posts on the bike rack arms to secure your bikes in place. The cables store in the arms when not in use.

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack Locking Hitch Pin

The rack also has a HitchLock hitch pin that allows you to lock the rack to your vehicle. The threaded pin also works as an anti-rattle device to reduce noise and movement of the rack when it's mounted in your trailer hitch receiver.

The cable locks and HitchLock hitch pin include keyed-alike Same Key System (SKS) lock cores. These cores can be swapped out to make all your Yakima products keyed alike.

Tilting Design and Compact Storage

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack Folded for Storage

The HoldUp stores more compactly than similar platform-style racks, and features a spring-loaded pin at the base that lets you fold the rack up against the rear of your vehicle when it's not in use. First rotate the front wheel holders inward and tilt the rear wheel holders inward, then rotate the pivot arms down and use the ratcheting hooks to secure the arms to the rear wheel holders. Once the arms are in place, pull the pin and fold the rack up against your vehicle.

Yakima 8002445 HoldUp Bike Rack Tilted for Rear Cargo Access

The same pin tilts the rack down, while fully loaded, so you can gain access to your vehicle's rear cargo area without having to unload your bikes.

As etrailer reminded me, I have had this thing for a year and it is awesome. I did a lot of research before buying and am certainly glad it steered me towards this product. My hatch just clears the rack when it is in the stowed (up) position and it just clears my handlebars in the tilted (down) position. Fits like a glove! The bolt fits snugly and makes for a very quiet ride. I love the anti-theft bolt-end but I make sure to pull on it after installing because it is hard to tell for sure if it is on. Mine was not and I drove away, losing it. They're not super expensive, but are super back-ordered rn so I had to find one from MasterLock that fits. I actually take mine on and off a fair amount because I'm hauling stuff around and loading/unloading is much easier without the rack in place even with it all folded into the stowed position. I've taken this rack across the country a few times (with and without bikes) and it has been great. I try not to exceed 90mph with a bike in the rack... Two things to know: 1. When you are only carrying one bike you have to make certain that the other spot's ratcheting arm is as ratcheted-down as possible. I once had it slip and it was dragging in the roadway before someone started flashing lights at me and I caught it. 2. I use a Voile strap (elastic cargo strap) to hold my front tire down. See attached photo. If you don't, it is possible for the front wheel to roll back a little bit and loosen the fit. I don't know why Yakima hasn't made this change themselves but it's simple and makes your bike WAY more secure especially on winding roads.

Solid and sturdy and holds up (pun intended) to a lot of abuse. I believe I've already had this product almost a year if not more and it is showing some signs of minor rust and I lost one of the red end caps but no issues. The locking mechanism works flawlessly... My only gripe with is that it's advertised to hold up to a 3" diameter tire without issue but my bike is a 29er with 2.5" tires and you really have to push down hard the locking arms to secure the bike properly. Also, it does fit 18" kid bikes as well.

Took 5 1/2 months to receive the rack fuel to Covid 19. One of the rear cradle mounts had a broken strap mount, but Tiffany jumped right on the problem and I got a replacement within a week. Tiffany was awesome !! Rack is great. I've used it a couple of times and love it. Bikes (mountain & road) are super secure and ride very well. Very pleased with my purchase

The 1st Yakama roof mounted bike rack I purchased lasted well over 15 years. I gave it up because the model didn't fit my new ride. This review is for a rear, hitch mounted, 2 bike system. Right out of the box the rack looked great. Making sure my bikes aren’t stolen when I travel is a big issue for me. So I made sure the rack locks into the hitch receiver and the bikes lock into the upright securely, all with the same key. Tilting the rack out of the way is easy, even with a load. Assembly was straightforward. All the tools required for assembly were provided in the package. It may have taken ½ an hour to put everything together. It folds up compactly when not in use. I did have to adjust the rear view reverse camera on my car a little to get the best picture. I look forward to years of use. I recommend this product.

I m very happy with our Yakima bike carrier. Very easy to install, it only took me 15 min. Instructions are simple and it looks great. I tried our bikes on and off and it is fast, also feels great not needed to lift them up to the roof of the car as our previous carrier. The only reason for me to give 4 stars is that I have 29er mtb with in a large frame (19.5') and rocks a bit back and forth as its frame seems almost to big for the rack, I will use and extra strap (not included with the carrier) on the front wheel to solve the problem. Easy. Can't wait for our next bike trip! As per the team at etrailer: they deserve a full 5 stars! Extremely well organised with excellent communication. I will definitely look them up again for my next buy and recommend them with no hesitation. Good job guys.

Rack performs to expectation. Use it to carry two e-bikes (relatively heavy). The rear tire cup and strap could be more heavy duty- get's the job done, but I had to replace one of the cap/strap units because the spring clasp broke. I was quickly sent a replacement, at no cost, so I can confirm they stand behind the product. I would purchase again.

I purchased the used installation model demo'd in the videos. Amazing deal! I could not find a better price for a used Yakima Holdup 2 hitch rack outside of etrailer.com. Arrived in excellent working condition, other than the normal wear that you would expect from a demo rack (this was listed in the description). Shipping was fast. The hitch rack installed perfectly on my 1.25" hitch. I could not be happier.

Review from a similar HoldUp in Hitch Bike Racks

Works well for transporting two 29" wheeled mountain bikes. However, after one year it's starting to rust in several areas (see attached photos), and the front wheel arms are becoming increasingly difficult to raise and lower. Finally the locking cable is extremely rusty as you can see in the attached photo. I'm not sure how durable this rack will be long term.

Comments
This has a limited lifetime warranty but rust is not covered under warranty. With most aftermarket products like this one, it will need taken off when not in use, lubricated often, and filed and repainted once you noticed rust forming. Here are some tips in this attached article:

Review from a similar HoldUp in Hitch Bike Racks

I was excited to finally get the bike rack after a long back order...but it was well worth the wait ! It took my husband and I about 35 minutes to assemble it. It was very easy. I had been having to lift my bike in and out of my truck bed and it was taxing on my back. I have used it everyday since installing it and love it. Thank you to the Customer Service department for being so nice when I called several times for updates on my order.

Review from a similar HoldUp in Hitch Bike Racks

Ordered this luckily early on in the supply chain issues of 2020, and etrailer was one of the few retailers that had a reasonable ETA. I opted for the regular holdup over evo as I don't anticipate needing the fat tire support, nor did I want to pay the extra cost. My 4 year old is getting into bikes, so my wife and I bought some hybrids in order to keep up, and get some exercise. Also opted for the holdup because I don't like the hanging style carriers, and hated climbing up and down to get bikes off roof carriers. Rack works great, holds bikes securely, and fits pretty well in a Curt 2" hitch on our 2017 Outback. May eventually try out a hitch tightener to see if it gets rid of some minor wobble and creaking, but otherwise the rack is solid. Left off a star because there are some minor gripes. First, the latch to tilt the rack out of the way of the trunk door is in an awkward place, and requires you to slightly lift the rack to ease pressure on it in order to move. Granted they did fix this in the Evo, but I still don't think it's worth the upcharge. I ended up finding a Swingarm on sale to move the rack completely out of the way of the trunk. Really wish there was an all in one solution, but I get that Yakima wants to sell Exo's and Swingarms. Next, there's no retention point for the arms, so you have to be careful that the sliding piece which holds the arm in place will rest on the rack when not in use. I only had one bike mounted, and didn't realize the other arm had rotated past the rack, and was dragging on the ground when driving. Luckily only lost some non-essential rubber and didn't damage the arm itself (of course yakima sells replacements), but would have been a nice to have some sort of protection for user error, since I can't imagine a scenario in which you'd need the arm to rotate that far. My garage is unfortunately too small to comfortably keep the rack mounted full time, but installing and removing is a breeze. Highly recommend a socket wrench to tighten the bolt, yakima does supply a wrench but it's a pain to operate, especially when the rack is mounted.

Great improvement over Yakima's older models of this hitch rack. Perfect for my road bike and my wife's electric Townie on the same rack. Quick, free delivery from eTrailer.

Excellent. BUT, the wheel troughs are a bit close together for an electric Townie bike. It fits, but barely.

Review from a similar HoldUp in Hitch Bike Racks

Great rack! I like that it literally takes 2 minutes to put two mountain bikes on or off. Holds bikes securely without scratching or damage. It's so easy to use that it encourages you to just throw the bike on the back of the van and go somewhere. Previously, we had to take the seats out of the mini-van, roll the bikes into the van leaning them against the side, and tie the bikes down inside the van so they wouldn't fall over while driving. This was a major pain.

Comments
Had the rack for 4 years now. It sits on the back of the van spring thru fall, exposed to the weather. It still works great! Yes, there is a little bit of rust forming on certain spots because it is made of steel, and there is a little bit of play in the hinge that folds the rack up, but it is still in really good shape and works like the day we got it. My only complaint is that the security cables are too short to get around my Trek Fuel. Wish these were longer so I could wrap them around the frame and wheel at the same time.

Review from a similar HoldUp in Hitch Bike Racks

The Yakima hold up is very sturdy and easy to use bike rack. My bikes are loaded faster than my 16 year old can inhale a cheeseburger. We have the 4 bike extension as well and while it’s big with all 4 bikes in, it’s compact enough and very sturdy when we’re headed to more remote trails. What’s even more excellent is the customer service I’ve received from eTrailer. Yakima had supplier issues and eTrailer kept us informed through the whole process. Even offering alternate racks and calling the supplier directly to get product availability estimates for me. Thank you!

Review from a similar HoldUp in Hitch Bike Racks

The bike rack works extremely well and fairly easy to get two adult bikes and two kids bike. The rack can be a bit heavy if lifting all in one piece. I would recommend installing the base, then the add on. Bikes are stable and secured. The locking cable is just long enough to go throught the frame, but don't expect both tires to be locked. The only issue I had is the stablizer bold for the add on did not fit through the base rack. I called supprot and I am going to make the hole slightly larger so it will fit. Support was very knowledge and had heard of one other issue like mine so they noted my account. etrailer is great in customer support and deliver.

Review from a similar HoldUp in Hitch Bike Racks

It only took a couple of days for the rack t arrive after I ordered it. I was impressed how sturdy the rack is. My wife rides a Trek Townie E-bike which is heavy (48 lbs) that I needed a sturdy rack to carry it in addition to mine. My hanging rack in no way would handle the weight (Total with all the gear, 70 lbs). My new rack handled it easily. This rack has some nice features that I looked for in a good rack. It was easy to put together and install on my car. It is fairly heavy but fits perfectly in my 2" hitch. With all the bikes loaded, there isn't any sway or movement with the rack as I drive. The rack sits nice and tight in the receptor. It has security locks that make hauling bikes a safe and secure experience. The cost was a little higher than I wanted to spend but I was glad I did. I know I bought a great product that will last for many years of riding. I highly recommend this rack to anyone looking for a quality rack for their bikes.

Review from a similar HoldUp in Hitch Bike Racks

I just assembled this rack and loaded my bikes. I immediately saw a number of flaws in the design I didn't see in any of my investigating or review videos, including etrailers on this rack. Thinking I did something wrong, I went back and checked out another [online video] review I hadn't before and wish I had. This video shows all the flaws I noticed after my installation perfectly. This review is dead on. I have purchased it, unfortunately, so I'm stuck with it. Knowing the flaws, I hope I can make it work satisfactorily. Do your self a favor and view [all review] videos before you decide to buy.

Review from a similar HoldUp in Hitch Bike Racks

We needed a bike carrier that could handle our heavy 55 lb e-bikes. Looks like this one will do it just fine. I like the built in locking cable feature, and locked hitch bolt. Folds up nice, out of the way, when not in use.

Comments
Its a great carrier, the best, but I would like to see it produced in two models. One that rises up from the hitch, as this does, and one the s lower from the hitch, for high 4 wheel drive vehicles and front hitchs, so its lower to see over the bikes.

  • Converting Yakima Holdup Bike Rack to Fit 2 inch Hitch
It would seem like a simple fix to just use a sleeve adapter with the Yakima # Y02445 to convert it to a 2 inch hitch but Yakima says that using adapters like this will void the warranty of the rack so we do not endorse that. Only safe recommendation we can make is the tongue replacement part # 8880580 you mentioned which is going to be more stable than a sleeve adapter anyway.

  • Can I Use the Yakima HoldUp # Y02445 on an E-Bike with Fenders?
I have a great solution for you. Unfortunately, the Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" Hitches # Y02445 does not have a long enough ratcheting arm to allow you to attach your KBO e-bike to the frame tubes. With that being said, here at etrailer, we do not recommend using a wheel-mounted attachment style with bikes that have fenders. The reason why we discourage this is because the ratcheting arm could shift during transport and potentially crack or damage the fenders. However,...

Yes, the bolt will tighten all the way up to being flush with the hitch opening. Check out the pictures I attached that show what it will look like once installed. You might try removing the rack from your hitch and seeing if it will thread all the way in, if so then you know the problem is somewhere on the hitch. If not, then the problem is in the rack and the threads of the rack should be inspected.

Not only is the size of the trailer hitch receiver important, but also the class is important. The Yakima Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack for 2 Bikes - 1-1/4" Hitches # Y02445 is only to be used on class 2 receivers so it will not work on your class 1 receiver. This is for a couple reasons, one being that class 1 receivers are not designed to hold the weight of some accessories, such as this class 2 bike rack. The second reason is that some hitch manufacturers actually weld in a stopper which blocks...

  • Distance from Hitch Pin Hole to Rack on Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack When it is Folded Up
When the Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack # Y02445 referenced in your question is folded up, there will be a distance of 7 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack. When folded down, this distance will be 12 inches. This is a very nice bike rack that works with 1-1/4 inch, Class II trailer hitches and can hold up to 2 bikes at 60 pounds each. The rack can also be tilted away for easy rear cargo access on your vehicle and both a hitch lock and bike lock are...

  • Using Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack, Part # Y02445 on 2009 Toyota Yaris with Class I Hitch
The Yakima HoldUp Bike Rack, part # Y02445 will not work with a Class I hitch. Because of the limited tongue weight capacity of the Class I hitch, the hitch manufacturers weld a stop or punch a detent into the receiver that prevents the use of Class II accessories that have a higher weight capacity. Unfortunately, it is physically impossible to use this rack on that hitch because the shank of the rack will not slide into the receiver far enough for the pin holes to line up and the hitch...

  • Can the Outside Tray be Removed on the Yakima HoldUp # Y02445 When Only Hauling One Bike
I guess technically if you wanted to remove all of the hardware on the Yakima HoldUp # Y02445 so that you can take one of the platforms off that would be possible, but I don't recommend doing that as it will wear down your hardware and gives you multiple opportunities to lose them. If you are concerned about the ease of loading up your single bike to the spot closer to your receiver then I recommend looking at the Kuat Transfer # KU74FR. This is the only bike rack that allows you to...

  • Is the Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack # Y02445 Compatible with a 2005 Toyota Corolla Trailer Hitch
The Yakima HoldUp 2-bike rack # Y02445 is not compatible with Class I 1-1/4 inch hitches, so unfortunately it is not compatible with the hitch on your 2005 Toyota Corolla. Only Class I hitches are available for the 2005 Corolla. We do have a similar rack that will work for your application, however. The Kuat Sherpa 2-bike rack, part # SH12G, is a lightweight, platform-style bike rack that is compatible with your Class I trailer hitch and would be very comparable in design to the HoldUp....

  • Trailer Hitch for 2015 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited Wagon for 1-1/4-Inch Yakima Hitch Bike Rack
The Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack for 1-1/4-Inch Hitches, part # Y02445, is best used directly into a compatible 1-1/4-inch trailer hitch. While there are adapters that allow different size hitches and racks to be used together, this practice is not ideal since ANY adapter reduces hitch capacity by half and also tends to allow for more random motion of the bike rack while you're underway. Since you do not intend to tow, your bike carrying application will be best served by sticking with...

  • Will the Rola NV2 Bike Rack or a Platform Rack Fit a Class I Trailer Hitch on a 2009 Cadillac STS
I do have a recommendation I think you are going to like. First, the Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack # Y02445 will not fit as it is for Class II hitches. The hitch on your 2009 Cadillac STS is a class I hitch. But not to fear, because I do have a solution for you. I recommend the Swagman XTC-2, # S64670. This is a platform style rack. It fits in a Class I, 1-1/4 inch hitch like yours, holds two bikes, and secures the bikes at the wheels and at the frame. The platform style racks are easier...

  • Recommended Platform Bike Rack for 2000 Subaru Forester
Actually, the SportRack Super EZ you mentioned, part # SR2901LR would be a pretty good choice for you. You will want to make sure the weight of your bikes plus the weight of the rack you choose does not exceed the tongue weight capacity of the hitch installed on your vehicle. Your hitch should have a sticker on it that will state the maximum tongue weight capacity, which is the maximum amount of weight that can be suspended from the hitch. If you do not already have a hitch installed...

  • Recommended Way to Mount Yakima Hold-Up 2 Bike Rack into a 2 Inch Hitch
To mount the Yakima Hold-Up 1-1/4 inch Bike Rack # Y02445 into a 2 inch receiver you will need a hitch reducer like the Brophy # HT02. This hitch reducing sleeve will not reduce the tongue weight capacity like other adapters will and it has a maximum tongues weight of 300lbs. You will be reduced to your lowest rated component which may be the reducer in this case. I've linked a video of this for you to check out. I have linked both products to this page for your purchasing convenience.

  • Will the Yakima HoldUp Trailer Hitch Mount Bike Rack Fit a 2011 Kia Soul
Even if you added the Yakima Replacement Spine Assembly, # Y80126, to your Yakima HoldUp bike rack, # Y02433, you will not be able to use it with a Kia Soul. The reason is because the 2011 Kia Soul can only be equipped with a Class I trailer hitch and the HoldUp for 1-1/4 inch hitches will only fit a Class II trailer hitch. What you will need for the Soul is a different platform bike rack. The most popular option is the Swagman XTC-2, # S64670. This bike rack holds the bikes at the wheels...

  • Recommended 2-Bike Hitch Platform Bike Carrier for 2015 Honda Fit
The Yakima Holdup Tilting Platform 2 Bike Rack # Y02445 will fit only in a Class II 1-1/4-inch hitch. The hitches made for your 2015 Honda Fit, Curt # C11406 and Draw-Tite # 24920, are light-duty Class I types and this rack will not work in them. In a Class I hitch you need to use a 2-bike Class I-rated bike carrier and the linked page will display all items, such as the Swagman XC 2-Bike Rack # S64650. You can refer to the two linked articles for help in choosing a rack that best...

  • Recommended Hitch-Mounted Platform Style Bike Rack with Locks Included
I recommend looking at the Yakima HoldUp 2 Bike Rack # Y02445. This is a great platform-style carrier that will allow you to transport up to 2 bikes at 60 pounds each. It features a wheel-mount design for easy loading and unloading and the rack can be tilted down for easy rear cargo access on your vehicle. It is compatible with Class II, 1-1/4 inch hitch receivers. The distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the closest part of the rack when it is folded up for storage is 7 inches. This...

  • Trailer Hitch Mount Platform Bike Carrier for a 2013 Ford C-Max
I think I have a great solution for you and your 2013 Ford C-Max. For a platform style bike carrier that is light weight and holds 2 bikes I recommend the Saris Freedom # SA4412B. This carrier holds the bikes at the wheels and frame and it weighs just 22-1/2 pounds! I have linked a video review of this carrier for you. The Yakima HoldUp, # Y02445, is a decent carrier. It is going to be heavier than the Freedom and it is a larger carrier so it won't be as easy to handle but still a solid...
