Specs:
The FourTimer has a 2-bike base unit and a removable 2-bike extension so that you can carry up to 4 bikes on the back of your vehicle. The platform-style design makes it easy to load and unload your bikes. Ratcheting hooks and sliding wheel cradles accommodate bikes of different sizes. The rack tilts down - even with bikes loaded - for cargo area access. And an anti-rattle hitch lock secures the rack to your vehicle.
Versatile Rack
This 4-bike carrier can be easily converted to a 2-bike carrier. Simply remove a bolt on the base of the rack to detach the front 2 bike positions. Then remove the red endcap from the detached piece, and place it into the base of the 2-bike rack that you will be using.
Quick, Easy-to-Load Design
This rack lets you quickly and easily load your bikes. Low load height requires minimal lifting. And adjustable hooks and wheel cradles hold bikes of different shapes and sizes.
Each upright mast has 2 ratcheting hooks that move up and down with the push of a button. These hooks you to carry 4 bikes of different heights and frame styles - like children's bikes and bikes with fenders. The hooks firmly grip your bikes by the top tubes, and they have a rubberized coating that protects your bike frames from scratches and scuffs.
All of the hooks can be rotated out of the way for easier bike loading. Just push in the small buttons on the hooks to rotate them.
You can also replace a short hook with a long hook or vice versa. This gives you the ability to choose where you want to mount your bikes. Additional short hooks (Y80526 - sold separately) or long hooks (Y80525 - sold separately) let you mount a shorter or taller than normal bike on the rack.
Sturdy, adjustable wheel cradles let you carry bikes of different lengths. Use the hand knobs to slide each cradle to the desired position and tighten. Ratchet straps allows you to tighten down wheels of different widths.
Insert the straps into built-in slots on the cradles to keep them out of the way while you're loading your bikes.
If you want to carry a fat bike, the cradles can carry tires up to 4-1/2" wide with the addition of extra-long straps (Y02470 - sold separately).
The FourTimer's tilting design makes it easier to access your vehicle's rear cargo area. Just pull the spring-loaded pin at the base of the rack. Make sure the heaviest bike is loaded closest to your vehicle.
Easily fold the rack up against the back of your vehicle when it's not being used. Just pull the pin at the base of each upright mast to fold it down, and use the spring-loaded pin on the rack base to fold the rack against your vehicle.
An anti-rattle hitch pin and lock are included to secure the FourTimer to your vehicle. The threaded pin reduces movement of the rack in your hitch and lets you enjoy a quiet ride.
To secure your bikes to the rack, you can use a standard cable lock (sold separately). Use the loop on the base of the rack as an anchor point for the cable.
The TwoTimer includes an integrated bottle opener at the end of the rack.

Tilts down with bikes loaded for easy access to rear cargo.UGH!!! LOVE, LOVE , LOVE this rack and sooo wanted to give it FIVE STARS... BUT... Everything is well built; easy to assemble and install; looks great on my Jeep Gladiator; can load four family bikes in less than five minutes; super sturdy and bikes are solid and secure. I would buy this rack over and over again! So what's the complaint... With everything being so well engineered and high quality, why would they secure the lock pin cable with a cheap plastic button instead of a stainless pin, bolt or screw? Mine broke off the second time I removed the pin (see pictures)! Not a big deal as I will likely tap the hole and re-secure the cable with an appropriate small bolt, but why this one little compromise on quality?!? I would HIGHLY recommend (have I mentioned that I love this rack?), but not sure who got sick in quality control at Yakima the day they voted on plastic instead of stainless steel for this one part!? :-) BUY THIS BIKE RACK... did I mention I love it... you will too!
Great sturdy product! Bikes are secure! The curved bar at the top sits down on the bikes bar and the tires fit in the trays where they are strapped in! We load up our bikes and check out local parks. Also, take them on vacation, camping, etc. With our old bike rack, the bikes were very close together and get scratched. Again, great product and worth the wait!
For about the last five years I've had a Yakima Hold Up 2, which I have loved, but life goes on and the kids all of the sudden want to bring their bikes too. Well, to be honest, I want that too. It's more fun. Anyway, the Hold Up and that type of rack do not do a good job of accommodating children's bikes (though they are superior in almost every other way). So I sold the Hold Up and tried using a SwingDaddy. That thing was a disaster. I bought it about three weeks before our summer trip and returned it the day after I got back. Even with the top tube adapters it didn't really fit the bikes. The seatpost to stem distance was too short and my son's bike has this weird frame that makes it hard to fit. It was a couple hundred more dollars to trade up to the FourTimer, but it's worth it in the long run. Compared to the Hold Up it's harder to use. It's more complex to load the bike because you have to get the little trays in the right place and shift them to fit the other bikes. It's kind of a puzzle. But, what you get for this extra complexity is a much wider range of bikes you can fit. In my pictures you can see that I am able to fit my wife's 26" bike small frame, my 27.5" large frame bike, my son's 14" bike and other son's 10" bike. (The little girl's balance bike still rides in the car for the time being.) The bottom line is that for my needs, this thing fits the bill perfectly. A note on Yakima hitch locks: My Hold Up and this FourTimer have the type of hitch lock that goes through the hitch pin hole and bolts in. The SwingDaddy and other newer Yakima racks have this new type of lock that supposed to be tool-free. It has a big knob on the back. In my opinion, this type is a big step backward in development. Using the SwingDaddy, it would come loose by using the swing out feature. Fail.
Bike rack was delivered a day earlier than promised at no additional expense. All the pieces were there and in good order. I am not handy yet was able to assemble it in about an hour. It looks great and our bikes on loaded up waiting for our first ride tomorrow in a few hours.
This rack is exactly what I needed to haul two adult bikes (low entry step through frames) and two kids bikes (20 inch and 16 inch wheels for the kids bikes). It was easy to assemble and holds the bikes securely. Etrailer made the whole buying process really easy, product was received quickly and without any damage to the box. You should be aware...it is pretty heavy once assembled. Not impossible to lift on your own, but heavy. I don't love the hitch pin having to be screwed on; makes taking the rack on and off more of a chore, but, on the other hand, it give you great piece of mind that the whole rack isn't going to slide off on the highway for those longer hauls. Assembly is very easy and straightforward, but figuring out how to position your bikes on the rack will take a long time. For me, I had assembly done in 30 minutes, then spent about three hours playing with positioning to get it all right. Many other reviewers have mentioned the need to put adult frames on first and third position, and I found that to be true in my case as well. Only way to get good frame contact with the hooks on the smaller kids bikes. I changed the orientation of the tire holders to fit my application, using two holders facing opposite directions for adult bikes, and two holders facing toward each other for the kids bikes. This sacrificing the staggering shown in the stock image above, but you can overcome this by spacing the tall bikes out at positions one and three.
1-year later, this trailer is doing really well. It is still very easy to use, and stood up to the first Minnesota winter - exposure to road salt bringing the fat bike to singletrack trails. Spray some white lithium on the moving parts like I did before the winter and you shouldn't have any problems with anything sticking from rust.
A great deal for the price. I received my order last week and it took me a couple of hours to plan and lay out all the parts on the floor, get the necessary tools ready, print out a picture of a fully assembled rack for reference, and the rest is a breeze. To make it more manageable to carry the rack to the your hitch, do them separately. Install the main 2 bike racks first, followed by inserting the 2nd additional 2-bike racks. Moving the wheel catch (2 per bike) is a little sticky, but you only adjust these once. Locking bikes in place is easy and finally, they’re not rubbing against each other scratching the paint, etc... straps and locking mechanisms I give 3.5 stars out of 5. But then again, this product based on price is the best in its class.
Took a while to arrive but worth the wait so far. Very good four bike rack for the price. Only issue I ran in to was the plastic screw for the grey pull pin assembly broke the first day. Other than that, the Fourtime is easy to assemble and use.
Very solid product. Easy to get bikes on and off. I have used as a 4 bike and 2 bike rack.
Rack is short coupled making it hard to fit bikes without rubbing each other. Frame hooks rub the paint off the bike where it touches like others have noted. Frame hook locking/ratchet mechanism has worn out in less than a year resulting in unsecured bikes.
The package came very promptly. It is a quality rack at a reasonable price. It is obvious that e-trailer is concerned with customer service.
Great solid product, that holds 4 adult bikes with different shapes of frames with ease. Easy assembly, easy to mount bikes, easy to switch it to 2 bikes only. Once you put bikes on you can't open trunk door of the car, but I don't care. As long as my bikes don't fall off while driving, I'm good.
this bike rack was very easy to assembly, very sturdy and looks great. I have already adjusted it for 4 bikes and they fit very well. do note that if you are carrying women's bikes that getting a cross bar to attach at the top makes it much sturdier. I am very pleased with this product and would suggest it to others.
The bike rack looks very nice. Love the customer support.
In these difficult times we are living in etrailer comes through with great service. My rack was delivered on time and in great condition.
Great quality bike rack..
We like our Yakima FourTimer hitch bike rack after owning it for a year. Positives: - Wheel straps easy to tighten and are very tight when use built in ratchet tighener along with pulling it. - bikes held very sturdy - top tube anchor works easily, quick real ease spring pins to raise and lower the assembly and a quick release clamp to lock down bike tube - trays slide easily by loosening and retightening for easy fit of children's bikes - stores easy by leaning against garage wall & securing with strap - best feature is how much easier it is to fit kids bikes than the fork style Negative - heavy but still can maneuver it.
Easy to install, holds four bikes of varying styles and is very sturdy.
Love this Yakima FourTimer. Great price and works perfectly. I can take it apart to use for only 2 bikes or attach the add-on for 4. When not in use I can flip it up into a locked position. It's perfect for bikes with fenders and for carrying women's bikes that don't have the top cross bar needed to hold up the bike on traditional bike carriers. Also the wheel wells are adjustable to fit any length of bike. I love this carrier, best one I've owned. I highly recommend it.
Great bike rack. Easy to install. Fantastic customer service. Thank you!!!
Got my bike rack 4 days ahead of schedule, put it together fairly quickly (ran into a small glitch that Yakima technical support addressed quickly) and have used it once to take my mountain bike into the bike shop. The rack held my bike firmly and safely. Loading and unloading are very easy. The only thing that could improved is the way the safety pin that's secured by a short wire and plastic anchor. As a lot of other commenters have stated, the plastic anchor breaks almost immediately. I addressed that easily by tapping the hole and replacing the broken anchor with a metal bolt. Other than that very minor problem, I couldn't be happier with the rack, or with E-Trailer. The videos, etc. that E-Trailer has that shows how each rack works were extremely helpful. As mentioned above, I got the trailer about 4 days after I ordered, or about 4 days ahead of schedule. They are a great outfit and would buy something from them again without hesitation.
Very sturdy and easy to assemble. Perfectly fits a 2012 Subaru Outback. We mostly use the rack in the 2-bike mode and when I contacted the good folks at Yakima they gladly shipped out the end cap to use in the 2-bike mode at no charge.
Great product. Have only used it so far with just 2 bikes. Very stable, easy to adjust. Bikes very solid on the rack, especially when you band them together with the provided nylon straps. This unit is heavy, but needs to be for the desired stability.
Product arrived in 2 days and the packaging was in great shape. 1 small tear in the box at the corner, but nothing major. It took me about 3-45 minutes to put the carrier together with 1 socket and open end wrench. If you look at the picture, you can put this together without any instructions. (unless you are not good at that type of thing). Solid rack. Heavier than I expected but that's fine. I will replace the bolt that makes this a 4 bike rack so the wife can install it easily herself... 1st install the 2 bike rack, slide in the other 2 and put in a locking pin.
