etrailer Cargo Bag

etrailer cargo bag

This water-resistant cargo bag lets you transport up to 9 cu ft of gear on your hitch-mounted cargo carrier. It's made of PVC-coated nylon to keep your gear clean and dry. It allows you to carry luggage, sports equipment, sleeping bags, and anything else that will fit inside. The soft bottom of the bag conforms to your cargo carrier for a secure fit. You can also use this bag in your truck bed, in your trunk or rear cargo area, or on your roof-mounted cargo carrier.

Water-Resistant Nylon with Watertight Seams

Water-Resistant fabric

This cargo bag is constructed of heavy-duty, PVC-coated nylon, so it's hard to cut or tear. If it does acquire a hole or tear, the ripstop material is designed to prevent the hole or tear from expanding. The bag is also water resistant so your cargo stays dry in rain and snow. And for added weather protection, the seams are fused together to create a watertight seal.

Large, Zippered Opening

Zippered opening Opened etrailer bag

A large, double-zippered opening on top of the bag makes it easy to load and unload your cargo. The zippers wrap around 3 sides so you can fully open the top. There is a flap with hook-and-loop fasteners that provides extra moisture protection for your cargo and helps protect the zipper from rust and corrosion. You can add a small padlock (131D - sold separately) to the zippers to secure the bag shut.

Nylon Tie-Down Straps

Tie-down straps Tie-down straps

Six nylon tie-down straps secure the bag to your hitch-mounted carrier or roof basket. Each strap attaches to one of the 6 integrated, reinforced buckle attachments on the bag. Simply feed the short end of the strap into the buckle attachment on the bag and loop the long end around the rail of your carrier. Pull it tight and tie the excess out of the way.

Foldable for Compact Storage

etrailer Hitch Cargo Carrier Bag Folded

You can fold this bag up for compact storage when it isn't being used.

Great value but not perfect. My rating reflects the fact that I beat up this bag pretty thoroughly last year. It was on the road with me for over three months of camping out of my car, from mountains to deserts to beaches. I like that it's lightweight and even partially full of gear I could lift it out of my cargo rack and stick it on a bench or the ground for extended campground stays. It kept my stuff dry and clean.

The shortcomings are pretty obvious. There's no way to secure your stuff. You can put a little luggage lock on the double zipper pulls, but a box cutter will open the top in a couple seconds. The tie down stops are fine but require lots of time to reattach if you take the bag off the rack. The little velcro loops that are supposed to secure the extra length of strap are worthless and tend to fall off and disappear when the straps aren't in use. The material is prone to pinholes and other damage. Just hold it up to strong light after a trip and you'll see what I mean. A little alcohol to clean the area and some duct tape or repair patches are fine to prevent the damage from getting worse. (Shrug) I'm not sure what color would be better than black... Maybe a high visibility yellow would help prevent possible rear ending? Black sure doesn't help keep the contents cool in 100 deg desert heat. And as you can see from my photo, looks like crap after a week on the road.

Would I buy it again? As an affordable soft bag to carry loose stuff in my cargo rack, ABSOLUTELY. Can I get it in yellow next time please?

It's always a good experience buying something from etrailer! The range and details of the products and level of information on the web site, from descriptions to videos, makes selecting the right item easy. The items I've bought have always been as expected and delivery has always been as advised. Overall they just get it right!

by:

Very nice bag. Good construction and heavy zippers. Also excellent value. I gave it four stars because the nylon tie down straps it comes with are a bit of a compromise. I have many bags, packs and totes. The good ones all use webbing or straps that are thick and densely woven. These are thin and have a loose weave.
I would happily spend an extra ten bucks for that upgrade.

by:

Seems well made and heavy duty. Fits perfectly in my tray hauler. Holds a reasonable amount of stuff.

by:

For the price the quality of this item is unmatched, also did a fantastic job at providing me with a replacement item when the item I initially ordered was out of stock!! Unbelievable customer service that has left me with a fully functioning piece of equipment in a very timely fashion!! Would order from this company time and time again and I suggest you do as well!!

by:

Just recieved. First impression is that it's rugged and well made. All features stated are correct and no bull it will last. A great value for price paid.

  • Recommended Hitch, Cargo Carrier, and Accessories For 2017 Acura RDX
Hey Robert! Thanks for being interested in joining the hitch club! First things first, the Curt Class III # C13130 is a great choice for your 2014 Acura RDX (super easy install) and it'll work great with the Curt Cargo Carrier # C18113 you have your eyes on. Fit and compatibility verified. Now for the extras, I definitely do recommend adding an anti-rattle pin and lock, and you can do both with part # 63232. This will secure the carrier to your vehicle and drastically reduce any movement/noise...

  • Cargo Carrier, Cargo Bag, and Net Recommendation for a 1-1/4 Hitch on a 2014 Subaru Forester
While we do have a great lightweight cargo carrier that fits your 1-1/4" hitch on your 2014 Subaru Forester, the only aluminum ones we carry are designed only to fit 2" hitch receivers. The manufacturers unfortunately discontinued production of our aluminum carriers that fit 1-1/4" hitches. With that being said, the 19x47 Curt Cargo Carrier # C18110 is the second-lightest carrier we currently carry that fits a 1-1/4" hitch. This weighs 30 pounds. The first lightest we carry is the slightly...

Those are good questions and with a Class I trailer hitch like the Curt Trailer Hitch # C11363 that fits your 2015 Fiat 500 you do need to use a Class I compatible accessory like a cargo carrier. That means could use the Class II Reese cargo carrier you mentioned, but it wasn't designed for it. There is a very similar carrier which will work. Also, to answer your question about the weight of the hitch, it is about 25 lbs. The Curt Cargo Carrier # C18110 is compatible with a Class I hitch...

  • Choosing Between Hitch Mount or Trunk Mounted Bike Rack for 2012 Fiat 500
Purely by nature of the way it attaches to the vehicle, a hitch mounted rack would be the most secure. The rack's shank is secured to the receiver tube of the hitch, held in place by a steel hitch pin. The hitch is bolted to the undercarriage of the vehicle for an extremely strong installation. If you wanted to go the hitch route, I'd recommend the Curt Class I hitch, part # C11363 (for non-Abarth models). If you have an Abarth model, use # C11347. For a 2 bike hitch mounted rack, you can't...

All the hitches available for a 2016 Mazda 3 Hatchback and Sedan are Class I rated, so using a cargo carrier like the Rola # 59109 wouldn't work. This being said, we do have some alternatives. Beginning with the hitch, I'd recommend the Draw-Tite Class I hitch, part # 24914. You could then use a tray style carrier like the Curt # C18110 and a cargo bag like the # e98990. This would be a much less expensive alternative to the Rola enclosed carrier. The cargo bag will do an excellent job...

  • What Does Limited Lifetime Warranty Mean on etrailer Cargo Bag e98990
Good question, and the limited lifetime warranty means that the warranty covers any workmanship or defect in materials as opposed to standard wear and tear for the etrailer Cargo Bag with Mounting Straps # e98990. So if there is any issue with the cargo bag not caused by general use, the Cargo Bag # e98990 is covered under warranty. Basically, when a lifetime warranty is "limited" it is so someone doesn't use a product heavily for a number of years and point to some wear and demand a replacement....

The carrier has usable platform space of about 20 x 48 inches, and features an angled shank that increases the carrier's ground clearance by 3 inches.
