Video Transcript for Curt Class I and II Pin and Clip Review

Speaker 1: Today we'll be having a look at the Curt Class I and II pin and clip that's 1/2" in diameter, part number F-4. If you have an 1-1/4" hitch and have any hitch-mounted accessories to go with it, whether it be for a Class I or Class II accessory, you're going to need a pin and clip to secure them to your hitch. What's great about this pin and clip is how easy it is to use. With the pistol grip design, it makes it easy for us to insert the pin or remove it when securing our accessories such as this ball mount here. Once we have the pin inserted, we can take our clip, line it up with the pin, push it in place, and that'll secure our pin and our accessory. What sets this pin and clip apart from others on the market is that we have this beveled edge right here to help guide the pin through our holes in our hitch and our accessory. So, if our holes aren't lining up perfectly, this will help push them together, making it go through nice and easily. Also, other ones on the market, the clip goes around the pin.

It doesn't go through it. I find that this is a more secure option and makes it easier to remove the clip or to install it. It'll even work great with a cargo carrier, and just like that, we're hooked to our cargo carrier. It's secured to our vehicle and we're ready to hit the road. Not only does the pin and clip work with our ball mounts and our cargo carriers like this one, but it'll also work our bike racks provided they don't have a threaded hole for an anti-rattle device, which they are kind of rare to see that but they do exist. Just as easy as it is to install, it's just as easy to remove.

We'll simply grasp our clip at the end of it, pull away from our pin, grab our pistol grip of the pin, remove it from our hitch, and then the accessory can slide out.Now for a few measurements of our pin. Our pin has an overall width at its widest points from the tip over here of 4". Our straight pin measurement from where it's straight to our hole where our clip goes through, the usable space that we have is 2-1/2". So what that means is with our 1-1/4" hitch as long as the hitch walls themselves aren't thicker than 2-1/2", we will have plenty of clearance for our pin to go through, securing our accessory to our hitch. Now, when comparing this pin and clip to others, such as the Draw-Tite, part number PC2, this one is a more affordable option and it's slightly easier to use because it has different design where the clip goes through the pin and not around it, and it also has more of a beveled edge, which makes it easier to insert the pin and the accessory in case the hole in the accessory or the hitch aren't centered properly. That completes our look at the Curt Class I and Class II pin and clip that's 1/2" diameter, part number F-4..

The hitch has worked great over the past year. I pull a 15 ft sailboat and I have had no issues. Customer service was great with a missing part and got it to me quickly. Would definitely purchase again!

Using this on my John Deere diesel Gator and it does a great job, is high quality, and was a great price. Service with etrailer is always fantastic.

Great product, tho directions called for 19mm socket (actually uses 18mm socket). Installed in my driveway using common tools, and drove the rear wheels up on some blocks of wood to get a couple extra inches of space to work. I loved the 'fishing wires' that came with to get the bolts and spacers through the holes - how clever!

Rcvd my hitch today (one day earlier than predicted by etrailer when I ordered...well done!). Everything was received as expected/requested. Crawled under the car and started installation immediately. Piece of cake really; although some people would struggle with the tight space, 13 year old car, and need to clean threads, and remove caulk/undercoat in order to achieve "hole alignment". Hyundai also did a great job by having pre-threaded welded nuts in place. So far.... a great product received in time to use this weekend (as was my plan). Great job and great product by etrailer. Also, the website was easy to use and the videos quite helpful. I will be back! Thank you, 2008 Hyundai Sonata

I like this hitch pin as it fits very well and holds my 2" hitch adapter from 1-1/4" hitch receiver.

This hitch and collar is working great on our Honda Fit. We did have it installed by a mechanic because we didn't have the tools to do it ourselves. Now, we can bring our bikes with us on trips and other outings.

What can I say? It's a big pin that fits a big hole and has a small hole to fit the small pin that comes with it. Quality build, quality price.

I bought the pin also with the hitch and reciever. It works perfect, no problems with it .

Very specific. Just for our toad, a Smart car. Etrailer.com has the perfect software to lead you to what you need for the perfect combination. Quick shipment, reasonably priced. Direct communication for every step in the process. All in all, exactly what you’d hope for during these extremely dysfunctional time.

Every part excellent quality. Perfect fit, all parts were exact for my vehicle. Watched the video on youtube for wiring and being a mechanic for over 50 years was able to connect signal lights all from driver side of harness. Instead of leaving plug inside trunk I wired through the rubber outlet to the back of the hitch ready for use. Very happy highly recommend etrailer.

  • Does My 2020 RAM 3500 Have Non-Standard Hitch Pin?
We have never seen an 1/2" diameter hitch pin on a 2-1/2" receiver. They all have 5/8" standard. We only see the 1/2" pins on the small 1-1/4" receivers. I would measure your hitch pin carefully. Is it possible that everything is 5/8" but just has a loose fit? Hitch parts do not have tight tolerances and tend to wiggle and rattle a little. Most likely your setup is just fine.If the rattling becomes annoying you can always add a Trailer Hitch Anti-Rattle Kit for 1-1/4" Trailer Hitches,...

  • Why Does my 2 Inch Hitch have a 1/2 in Pin Hole and a 5/8 in Pin hole
The Curt Pin and Clip # F-4 that you referenced is designed to work on 1-1/4 inch hitches. The reason your hitch has a 1/2 inch hole and a 5/8 inch hole is because it is setup for an anti-rattle device like the Draw Tite J-Pin # 63201. I attached a picture of this device being used on a hitch like yours for you to check out. I also attached a review video for this product for you to check out also. This 1/2 inch hole is not designed to be use as a hitch pin hole, you will want to use 5/8...

  • Best 1/2 Inch Hitch Pin that is Long Enough to Fit a 2 Inch Hitch Receiver
Is there a threaded nut inside the shank of the bike rack? My guess is that is the case. I would need to know the bike rack manufacturer and the model though the model is not as important as the manufacturer. If you can tell me that information I can determine if we have the proper threaded hitch bolt for that rack. If it does not have a threaded hitch pin hole and the issue is length you can use the Curt Clevin Pin with Handle # C45805. This pin has a 6-7/8 inch usable span so it is plenty...

  • Pin and Clip That is 1/2 Diameter and 4 Long
I'm not 100 percent sure what you mean by "latch pin or something" but I am assuming you mean a pin and clip, and we do have one that is 1/2" diameter and 4" long, the Curt Class I and II Pin and Clip # F-4. This pin and clip is a total of 4" long overall with a 2-1/2" long straight pin. The 1/2" diameter is standard for a hitch pin and clip for a 1-1/4" receiver so the straight part of these is not going to be as long. If you were looking for a hitch lock the longest with a 1/2" diameter...

Hitch pin size doesn't matter that much I would say. As long as the pin fits through the hitch pin hole and the accessories hitch pin hole you'd be fine. That said, if you were looking at the Curt hitch part # C12264 the # F-4 is an easy solution for a hitch pin and clip.

The Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Receiver # 24925 you were looking at is confirmed to fit your 2021 Volkswagen Golf TSI and would be perfect for carrying a bike rack. This hitch includes everything needed to get it installed on your TSI, and the only thing you may need is a hitch pin if your Class I bike rack does not have one already. Typically these are included with the bike rack. Assuming that the bike rack in question uses a standard non-threaded hitch pin then I recommend going with...

Keep in mind that you will need to use a Support Strap # 18050 for any non-trailer loads like a bike rack or cargo carrier when using this hitch per the Curt Warranty. The Curt # C45521 drawbar you referenced is compatible with a 1-1/4 inch receiver, as is the # F-4 hitch pin and clip. You'll want to make sure that the hitch on your Escape has sufficient capacity to handle the pop-up you're planning on towing. The first thing I'd recommend you do is to determine the capacity of the hitch. The hitch should have a sticker on it telling you if it's a Class I or a Class II hitch. A Class III, 2" hitch like the Draw-Tite is designed to be used with a 5/8" diameter pin and clip such as # PC3, while a 1-1/4" hitch will use a 1/2" diameter pin and clip like # F-4.
