Video Transcript for Review of Draw-Tite Hitch Pins and Clips - Standard Hitch Pin - PC3

Today, we're going to take a look at the pin and clip for the class three, class four, and class five trailer hitch receivers. Now this pin and clip is used to secure a ball mount or a hitch accessory to your trailer hitch receiver. This one is designed to fit two inch, and two and a half inch square receiver hitches. It does include the retainer clip. And when you do insert this into your hitch, just put your clip on the other end and that'll hold it in, secured into place. Now, the pin itself, it is a five eighths inch diameter pin, the overall length on this pin, and I'm going to measure from this end all the way to this end.

If I put my ruler on there, you can see it's going to be right at five and one eighth inches, the usable length, which would be measured from in here to where the pin is installed. That is going to be right at three and a quarter inches. And then what I wanted to show you is I happened to pull a ball mount that uses this five eighths inch diameter pin and clip. And I happen to have an example of a hitch receiver right here. Let me just zoom out a little bit so we can see. And this is a two inch by two inch hitch receiver opening.

So when you take your ball mount and you slide it in there, you'll just line up your hitch pin holes, and then you'll take your five eighths inch diameter pin, slide it all the way through. Once it's all the way through, put your clip on there, and then that holds it, secures it into place. And to remove it, just pull off the clip, slide your pin out, and you can remove it from your hitch receiver. But that should do it for the review on the pin and clip for the class three, class four, and class five trailer hitch receivers..

Product itself is perfect and customer service was impeccable. The team recommended a replacement part from the one I ordered so that the shipment could go out immediately (the one I ordered was out of stock). I would have been happy enough to wait a month, but better yet the shipment came in few days.

The product hasnt disappointed. Its done its job even when I managed to damage the hitch cover by scraping it on the ground rough, rough road.

Purchased with a Draw-Tite hitch that has the bracket welded to the cross member. No sweat to install onto hitch. Remember to mount the bracket to the hitch before installing hitch. Also, the vertical tab with the slot must face the rear of the truck to accept the plug from the wiring harness.

Working fine.

It's a dumb hitch pin, what's to say? I ended up getting a lock to use instead and shelving this, so I have even less to say than that.

This is actually the second one of these I've installed. I helped a friend put one on his 06 Outback and it was really easy. So when I needed one for my 05 Outback I knew where to buy one. Super-simple installation and looks good too.

Customer Support was excellent. Products fit as good as factory and a whole lot less expensive. Installed in a couple of hours with a little help from a friend. The hitch is pretty beefy and I needed a little help holding in place. Other than that everything bolted right up. Nice heavy duty bolts and thick wafer washers to insure it won’t come lose. The hardest part was cutting the plastic factory shielding underneath around the hitch. Great product.

Pulling the pin on my new Tacoma was a pain in the rear with the old pin from a 2005 Tacoma. The new truck has an extra lip welded on the receiver. So I got this one, out of the box I thought it was exactly what the old one was. Not so, just a bit longer so the pin slides right in ?? Thanks

Comments
The Oem hitches on the 2005 Toyota Tacomas have extra width around the receiver and will need a hitch pin that is made for a 3 inch hitch. I recommend Curt part # C21506 Hitch Pin and Clip. This hitch pin and clip is 4 13/16 inches long.

After balking at the cost to have an auto-shop add a trailer to our Toyota Highlander, we found etrailer.com and decided to take a chance. The "how to" videos factored considerably in our decision to buy ... they made it look so easy! And surprise! It really -WAS- that easy. We used standard block-type ramps (the kind you can buy for $40 ) to get the SUV up off the ground high enough to get underneath to do the work. Everything came off as easy as it was showed in the videos. Other than the fact this bar is a heavy so we had our teen daughter help hold it steady while we bolted it into place (i.e., get help for when you go to lift it), it went super smooth. Thanks for saving us $280 over the cost the car dealer quoted us! P.S. - be sure to watch the linked videos so you get the right trailer lighting attachment and ball hitch for your new hitch.

Comments
We are very happy with our trailer hitch, and all the accoutrements that we purchased with it. Your videos were enormously helpful, the hitch went on easily with a bit of help from our teenage daughter to lift it up into place, and we recommend your business to friends when they express an interest in getting a camper.

Ordering and delivery was great from etrailer, although the description of the hitch pin I purchase said it would fit a class 5 hicth and did, but no finger room to place key in and out of pin. I’m looking for something about a inch longer that makes key easier to remove and to install, I consider this pin not ideal for a class 5 hicth and have a better detail on website. I do have the perfect pin now, trying to find a couple more. Thanks, Mark W

Ask the Experts about this Draw-Tite Hitch Pins and Clips

  • What is the Weight Capacity of the Draw-Tite 5/8 Inch Hitch Pin PC3
The class III and greater hitch pins like part # PC3 are never going to be the weak point in a towing setup therefore they do not have a working load limit (WLL) or break strength rating. This is pretty standard across all trailer hitch pin manufacturers. The trailer hitch and or ball mount will fail much sooner than the hitch pin will. I know it may seem crazy but I have never seen a hitch pin given any sort of weight rating before. If you really must have a weight capacity rating, then...

A hitch ball and a hitch pin and clip each serve a different purpose.
