Video Transcript for Carr Mega Step Fold-Up Step Review

Adam: Hi, everyone, Adam, with Today, we're going to be taking a look at the Carr Mega Step. This is going to work with your two inch hitch receivers and it will be able to fold up. So something that I noticed, one of the more difficult things about owning a truck is getting into the bed, this is quite the task. With this step, it's going to be a little bit easier on your back, your arms and your legs. You can fold it down and you can get into the bed of your truck without stepping on your bumper because our plastic here will wear away over time and we want to keep our truck looking brand new.So as you can see here, we do have a little bit of scratches and discoloration just by stepping on this rear bumper, just one or two times also, it's not really too much room there.

I'll get about a third of my foot onto the step and then I'll just be hitting our nice license plate in the back here. We don't really want to do that. Luckily we have a little bit more room here. I get more of the meat of my foot onto the step, which gives me a more sturdy pivot point to get in and out of the bed of my truck. So the Mega Step is going to be ideal for getting up and loading stuff onto your roof rack even if you have a spare tire on the back. So as you can see here, we have a pretty gritty surface and it is going to be a lot grippier than our plastic up top.

And it is going to last a lot longer as well. It is made of a sturdy steel construction with a nice powder coated finish. So it's not going to fade away like our plastics will up top. It does have a little bit of assembly required. It's just going to be these four bolts here, a washer and a lock nut to put that two inch hitch receiver on the very back end of this plate. So our step is going to have quite a bit of room just in case you're wearing larger work boots in the winter.

It is going to be about 14 inches wide by five inches long, and it is going to have a nice weight capacity of 500 pounds. So with our step folded down from very edge of our hitch to the very end, it is going to be about seven and three quarter inches out, but we can actually fold this up and that's going to bring that distance down to about two and a quarter inches. And you don't have to worry about it hitting your bumper. It doesn't have enough play to damage your nice Chrome bumper. So it does not come with an anti-rattle bolt or a pin. So if you would like to get a locking pin or whatever, you can grab that here on

I would suggest getting a locking pin because this is a pretty attractive step and you don't want it to walk away. And as you can see here, this is the plate that we will have to assemble onto it. And it's going to have two different holes just so you can get the right amount of distance between your hitch and your step. Not only is this step going to be very functional and help you get in and out of the bed of your truck, when you fold it up, it's also going to look stylish as well. We have a nice symbol here. It's just going to give your truck a nice and clean look.So if you like the folding step function of our step here, Carr also makes a smaller step and is going to be able to fold down just like the one you see here. And we will have many different options on different colors and designs on this plate here. In this instance, we do have black so that's always an option. On top of that, we do have another one that's going to stick out from your hitch a little bit longer. It is going to be fixed so it won't flip up, but you do get a gritty piece of sandpaper just to give you that optimal grip when stepping on your step.So whether you're using this step on your pickup to get into the bed of your truck, or if you're using it on your SUV, just so you can get a better look at loading up your cargo carrier, whatever it may be, if you have a two inch hitch, this is definitely going to get what you need. Thanks for watching. I hope this video helps. And again, this was the Carr Mega Step and I'm Adam..

It fits our 2017 Transit 150 van, with a Curt hitch from etrailer, perfectly. From the pics you will see it looks like it was designed for this vehicle. It cuts the factory distance to the step bumper in half. My old knees like it. My shins like. . .love the fold up position. Step is big enough that you can hit it stepping around a load in the van. Provides solid footing even when stepping off center. Two issues: 1) The price. A bit steep compared to price of a hitch. But if it helps save my knees it's worth it. 2) The mount is loose in the hitch receiver. Has a tendancy to wobble. Concerned about this surprising others. So I took a 7/8" id flat washer and cut it down to 2" wide with flats on oposite sides. I put it in from the front of the receiver and wedged it under the step mount. This stablized the step. And when it comes time to remove the step I'll be pulling it away from the washer, undoing the wedge.

great company to work with for trailer equipment

Great product. Top notch service from etrailer. Thanks

Very well made just received it today, perfect for the transit style van just the right size. The step is at a comfortable split between the ground and the bumper. It is just what I was looking for. Thank you.

Love this folding step I’m a contractor and use it at least 10 times a day 5 days a week carrying all kinds of materials heavy and or bulky with no issues at all. Also did not need to add shims or anything like that it has slight movement Wiggle but enough to be a concern. Very well made and strong. Worth every penny Thank you for a great product.

i was very impressed with how solid this folding step is and when folded it seems to blend right in

works perfect, just what my bus needed to get in and out of emergency exit

Product is great!! Etrailer is fantastic too.

We do like this product.

Works well for what we need

This is my 2nd Mega Step. The other step is on a work vehicle for 2 years (no issues what so ever). Great product. That’s why I need one for my personal truck.

Very nice unit, albeit a bit pricey. Solid and well made, so I don't regret spending the money.

Great product! Works as described! Looks good, too!

Fast response everything was great

Love it, great strong step.
Needed little
grinding on nuts that hold main plate to tongue assembly, they are too close to hitch entry point, make assembly wider! Pin hole barely lined up due to nuts hitting hitch and after grinding nuts slightly hole was barely lined up. Chamfered leading edge of my locking pin and drove it in with hammer, will have to drive out to tow so pain if its on an off a-lot. Gives it a tight e rattle free fit tho!
Don’t expect slip on from package, needs fitting..

It has worked very well. Very pleased with the product. My kids now have an easier time stepping up into the back of my land cruiser. My only "complaint" is that it doesn't fit perfectly tight in the hitch and will rotate very slightly. But, I have never had a problem with it rattling when I drive. Would definitely purchase again.

First class strong construction

Yes, it is expensive..but as the cliche says, "You get what you pay for". This step has performed flawlessly, including the time a 30 pound log rolled out and hit it (open) when I opened the tailgate.
Having seen and tried the cheaper alternatives (which I find small and somewhat less stable that the CARR product), I recommend it.
That said, I have two little issues with it.
1) The foot plate does not stand vertical unless the assembly screws are tightened all the way down. In doing that, moving the foot plate to horizontal then requires two hands, not a foot to push down.
2) The holes in the mounting bracket (where the retainer bolt goes through the hitch receiver) do not line up with my Draw-Tite hitch. if it was drilled about 1/2 inch shorter, the back plate of the step would be tight against the hitch receiver. Currently, it moves slightly, which is a little disconcerting when stepping down from the truck bed with a mountain bike in your hands. Also, wish it was of thicker steel.
Okay, there may be three issues, the CARR symbol looks like a Raiders football team logo, so being from Kansas City, it gets some comments.
Would I buy one a heartbeat. And yes, I do have a locking hitch bolt, otherwise, I would be buying another one due to theft!
Lastly, make sure you put the step up when not is use. If you walk into with your shin, you'll only do that once.

I received this receiver step yesterday, installed it this morning on my P.U. truck. It will let me step up & put things over the tailgate without having to get a step stool. Then I can fold the step up so I don't hit my shin when I walk past the rear of the truck. It also looks nice.

I didn't use for the intended purpose. I used it for the first step off our pool deck into the pools steps. Works great.

I've now had this about a year. I did have to shim it up to keep it from rattling in the hitch, but overall I’m very happy with it. No issues with it folding up and down. I don’t keep it on 24/7 but I do take it with me several times a year when I go camping, it gets covered in mud and still has enough friction on the step itself to not feel slick at all and the folding mechanism seems to have held up just fine. I tend to sort of "land" on it when I'm getting out, I'm 240 lbs and it seems solid. I would buy it again.

The insert of the step into the hitch was very loose. I had to drive two small nails between the insert and hitch holder which means the step is almost permanent and would require a hammer to remove. The insert needs to be a square and shims should be provided to secure in place.

First of all let me say that this step is well engineered and very well built. I only have two concerns. Number one, I found the spring retainer screws were loose. Upon fighting them I found the step would not stay folded. There was no tension on the spring. The screws needed to be left somewhat loose in order for the spring to engage the step. To solve this problem so the screws would not work themselves out I installed a lock nut on each screw. The second concern was the fit into my hitch receiver. This I solved by adding some shims until the fit was satisfactory. Overall I am pleased with the looks and function of the step.

This product arrived in good shape and was just as advertised.

This step is being used on a 2013 Mercedes Benz Sprinter Van with the factory hitch. Installed easy and works perfect for getting in an out of the back doors.

  • What Are the Carr Mega Step Fold-Up Steps Made Of
I was able to confirm with the product manager that all of Carr's products like this, including the # CARR190011B are in fact made with a heavy duty aluminum and not steel. The weight of these is about 8-lbs total, so they're not going to be too heavy to create an inconvenience during installation.

  • Are Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock And Carr Mega Step Fold-Up Step Compatible
Yes, you can use the Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches - 3-1/2" Span, part # 63232, with the Carr Mega Step Fold-Up Step - 2" Hitch - 14" Long - 500 lbs - Black, part # CARR190011B. I have included a product description link, a video installation link, and a video review link below.

  • License Plate Relocation Bracket For Hitch Step That Blocks License Plate
It wouldn't really be possible to mount a license plate to the Carr Mega Step Fold-Up Step - 2" Hitch - 14" Long part # CARR190011B because you would need to install it on the side of the step to have enough ground clearance. It may be possible to use self tapping screws into the step to mount the license plate on the side but it wouldn't look like it belonged. If the step blocks your license plate, I recommend to use a license plate relocation bracket like part # LPL55CB to relocate...

  • Can I Use The Universal Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock With Carr Flip Step
I tested this lock, Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches - 3-1/2" Span, part # 63232 will work with the Carr Flip Step, part # CARR190011B, and it works. I also tested it with the Curt Anti-Rattle Kit for Hollow Shank Accessories - 2" Hitch w/ 1/2" Pin Hole, part # C22321. It was a little easier to setup the Curt Anti-Rattle Kit to work with the Flip Step. But keep in mind, the Anti-Rattle Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock does come with a lock. • Recommended Hitch and Hitch Mounted Step for 2019 Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 2500
As long as your Sprinter doesn't have the 30-3/8 inch frame width (measured outside frame to outside frame) the Draw-Tite Class III hitch you'd looked at, part # 75549 would be a fit. For a large and very durable hitch mounted step, I'd highly recommend something like the Carr Mega Step, part # CARR190011 for silver or # CARR190011B for black. The step has a whopping 500 lb weight capacity, can can fold up when it's not needed. I'd also highly recommend a hitch lock like # e98882 to prevent...

  • Fixed and Folding Hitch Steps for 2-Inch Hitch on 2017 Ford F-250
Extendable Hitch Mounted Step # 288-08400 is not designed for use in the sideways stowed position. The step's design means it needs to be in the extended position for use so that the strongest part of the main structure is there to support the load on it. For a fixed hitch step that will not stick out too far you might consider the Pilot # BBS-1102 or one of the others shown on the linked page. We also have fold-up step # CARR190011B from Carr which is rated for 500-lbs and which is 14...

  • Hitch Step - Sensor/Camera Interference ON A 2021 Toyota Tacoma?
If you have ever put a ball mount in your hitch on your 2021 Toyota Tacoma and there was no interference, then you will be fine to use the BumpStep XL # WT81BS1XL. You will be able to see it in your rear view mirror, but it will not block a large part of your view because it's 24" long x 3-1/2" tall. This will be nothing compared to a bike rack or cargo carrier. If you want to make sure it will not interfere, go with this one # CARR190011B. This folds up so you don't have to remove it every...
