Lightweight Trailer is Perfect for Hauling Kayaks or Canoes

MPG461GU In Use

This lightweight trailer with saddle-style cradles let you transport your favorite kayaks or canoes. With a 7-1/2' long tongue, this trailer offers exceptional clearance during tight turns. The extended tongue also makes it easier to back up the trailer and prevent binding than trailers with shorter tongues.

MPG461gu saddle-style cradle

Durable saddle-style kayak carriers are flexible and padded to prevent scuffs, scratches, or damage to your boat during transport. The high-grip, adjustable saddles stabilize your boat and prevent movement while traveling on uneven or rough terrain. Fabric covers on the rear saddles allow easy boat loading from the back of your trailer.

Submersible LED Trailer Lights

MPG535 LED tail lights

The DOT-approved tail lights on this trailer are fully submersible, so you don't have to worry about damaging the lights when loading and unloading your boat in water. Each tail light has brake, running light, and turn signal functions, as well as side marker lights and reflectors. In addition, these LED lights last longer, burn brighter, and require less power than incandescent bulbs.

Plug-and-Play Trailer Wiring

CE48870 main harness to 4-way

The wiring for this trailer has a simple plug-and-play design, so it doesn't require any cutting or splicing to install. As you assemble the trailer, route the main wiring harness through the trailer tongue and down towards the body of the trailer. Then plug the 4-wire end of the tail light harness into the main harness.

CE48870 4-way plug

Run the wires of the tail light harness along the sides of the trailer frame and plug the individual wires into the matching wires on the side marker lights and the tail lights. The wires are color-coded so that you can easily match them up - no circuit tester is required. Once all of the wires are plugged in, use the included clips to secure the harness to the frame.

CE48870 4-way plug

When you're ready to connect the trailer to your vehicle, simply plug the trailer end of the main harness into the 4-way flat connector on your vehicle.

Leaf Spring Suspension

MPG535 leaf spring suspension

This trailer includes a leaf spring suspension system to limit road shock while you tow. A sturdy steel axle runs beneath the trailer frame. The 2 slipper springs that support the axle flex to absorb the rough motion that can occur when driving over bumpy terrain. Also, the axle, spring hangers, and tie plate are galvanized to resist rust and corrosion.

Quick and Easy Trailer Hookup

MPG535 trigger style coupler

Hooking this trailer to your vehicle is quick and easy. The trailer's coupler connects to a 2" hitch ball, and the included safety chains act as an emergency measure if the coupler accidentally disconnects from your hitch ball. A rubber coated lift handle is mounted to the coupler to provide a solid grip for lifting or maneuvering the trailer. Finally, the skid plate on the underside of the trailer tongue keeps the coupler from touching the ground.

We have used and enjoyed the kayak trailer for about a year. It is a pleasure to arrive home from a kayak trip and I just unhook the trailer and back it into the garage. No more have to lift the kayaks on and off the top of the pickup. During winter I remove the support bars, and tongue to set the trailer up on end against the wall. The only issue has been the wing nuts on kayak holders. I could not tightened them so that the holders move during transport. To solve this issue I replaced the wing nuts with lock nuts. Also the bolt head slips during the tightening of the lock nuts. Other than that, we love the trailer.

It has been the best investment we have made for the kayaks. So easy to keep the kayaks on the trailer in the garage and just hook up the trailer to the car and go.

Bought this trailer because I was tired of getting on a ladder to put on the Yakima racks onto my Tahoe every time I wanted to take my Carolina Perception kayaks out for a cruise. Checked out eTrailer and saw this Malone MicroSport trailer and bought it. My wife and I had very few issues assembling it in about four hours (though strongly recommend you invest in a 9/16" gear wrench to make it really easy to tighten the many nuts). It's so easy to load the kayaks, strap them down and go. Wish I'd bought this trailer a long time ago. Afterwards, I decided the purchase the storage bin and jack stand to complete the setup!

by:

Nice trailer... easy to assemble... reminded me of a full size Mysto Manufacturing Company Erector set from my childhood. Instructions were clear... everything made sense.

by:

Excellent trailer for my two kayaks …nice not to have to lift kayaks onto top of car ….

by:

Ideal in fit, form and function.Design allows well for transporting same or mixed use sports equipment. Trailer was shipped ahead of schedule thru FedEx.Directions and video was easy to follow for assembly. Paperwork required for registration was shipped promptly about a week later.

This is a fabulous product! Assembly was easy, and it served us well last season with our two 14-foot kayaks. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that six of the tiny lights in one of the red taillights went out after several uses. I haven't replaced the light yet as it still has working lights, but eventually I'll have to buy a new light fixture and splice in into the wireing harness.

by:

Can't say enough good things about this trailer! I used it for a multi-day kayak trip and we loaded 18ft. fully-loaded sea kayaks onto the trailer. It towed perfectly and I still had room to open the hatch on my Nissan Rogue. Towed it on the highway, on dirt roads and off-road. The fold-down J rack make it easy to load the center boats. Be sure to buy the optional jack stand and 1 person can roll it around even when loaded. It was straight-forward to assemble and it just works great!

by:

Problems after problems. Bowed bunks miss drilled holes and missing nuts. There’s a reason it’s priced low. Think twice or have HD close to replace the missing parts and re-drill holes. Should have stayed with Trailex Trailers. Lesson learned.

by:

: Didn't work out at all considering with the j-hooks installed the trailer is way too deep to hug a wall, so I store the trailer outside with a tarp over it. If you have to store the trailer with the tongue retracted, this is a must have.

by:

Bought the LowBed MicroSport specifically for my Blue Sky Boat Works Angler 360 kayak. Trailer works great! It's lower and makes getting the kayak on and off easier. Had no issues with the trailer assembly. LED lights work great. After one year I'm very happy I bought this trailer.

by:

I researched a number of different trailer options for my pair of Hobie fishing kayaks. Due to their weight, proper support was crucial to prevent long term sagging. I liked the multiple options available with the Malone Microsport trailer and went with the twin bunk option.

The Microsport trailer is sturdy and easy to assemble. The instructions were detailed and easy to understand. I also took advantage of assembly video on the etrailer.com website. All this being said, I found the estimated 3 hour assembly time to be overly optimistic. (It took me about 5 hours.)

I like the fact that all of the parts are galvanized. Living in a rainy area and using the trailer to store the kayaks when not in use, rust prevention is important to me. I'm confident the trailer will last a long time.

I've already towed my kayaks over 100 miles to our vacation home without incident. The trailer towed like a dream. The LED lights are bright and easy to see from behind, even though the kayaks overhang the back of the trailer by at least 4 feet. I was not concerned about drivers behind me not being able to see my turn signals and break lights.

All in all, the Malone Microsport trailer is great, reasonably-priced trailer for kayaks and canoes. It also makes a great rack to store them on, if you have the space.

by:

I love this and just told a friend about it as he's lifting a heavier canoe up on his truck. It was easy to put together, I did add a set of deep sockets to my tool collection which really helped. I am a woman in her 70s and though I have assembled a lot of stuff this was my first trailer. Very well designed, and the instructions are well written.

by:

I love my microsport trailer. Easy to put together, a cinch to load my two hybrid kayaks, and tows great.

by:

This is a great trailer for the price.
I
found the packaging and instructions pretty straightforward and easy to follow.
Once together it seems quite solid and I really like the LED lights.
The crew at etrailer.com were in constant contact and very supportive throughout the entire process and all the paperwork for registration came within a week .

by:

Can't say enough about the quality and prices. Ashley and Bridgette in CS were extremely helpful in helping me get what I needed in a Kayak trailer, and their follow up was extraordinary. Malone trailer is very sturdy, assembly instructions were right on. Paper work for title and registration was sent to me asap after delivery of the trailer. Trailer tows and tracks very well.

by:

Nice trailer, easy to put together except it, being the low bed cane with directions for the high bed. But Etrailef send me the pdf for the low bed.

by:

Good quality trailer. Went together easy, had all the parts even though the main packaging was torn open from shippment. Got it licensed with no problems.
I will be hauling my 2019 Hobie Outback on this trailer. Also mounted a 6" tube for
my fishing poles. Will also be adding the storage box. Have not had it on the road
yet. I like the size of this trailer, not very heavy or to large.

by:

Due to the pandemic, I waited 2 months to receive the trailer. It all arrived in good shape and I was able to assemble it easily. I was pleasantly surprised that the hardware and wiring harness had been upgraded to be more robust. I am waiting for plates and then I will see how it does on the road.

by:

The search for a trailer to carry our two Hobie Kayaks was extensive. My main concern was finding one that could carry the two heavy (83 lbs. ea.), travel at highway speeds and be easy to use. This Malone MicroSport trailer has turned out to be great. It is easy to get our kayaks on and off the trailer at the lake. Rhino-rack Nautic roof rack carriers were installed to carry the kayaks because I wanted them to provide conforming support for the hulls. They have proven to be capable of carrying the weight of the Hobie kayaks and the kayaks can be slid on them when loading/off-loading. This was a primary concern because capacity is not listed with most carriers. Assembly of the trailer was fairly easy and I would rate it requiring moderate mechanical skill. Before doing this assembly I watched a fantastic video online, walking you through the assembly.

I would add just a couple things. Those include: 1. It would be easier to do most of the assembly on a table, until you get to the wheels. Especially true for us older folks that don't bend so well. 2. Be sure to read the wiring harness installation a few times before installation. It is tricky, but will work if you follow the instructions correctly. There is barely enough wire to connect the tail lights. I wound up having to splice some wire because of problems I had. 3. You will need to get some grommets to protect the wires going through the holes in the frame. They are not supplied with the kit. Other than that the trailer works great, very solid and have had no issues traveling at highway speeds. Attached is a photo of the trailer with the kayaks.

by:

Took my wife and I 4hrs to put it together. Instructions were accurate and easy to follow. Perfect fit for our two pedal drive kayaks 12ft And 14ft. Tip- using battery powered impact wrench would have made the process much faster. Very pleased with the results and thanks etrailer for another great shopping experience.

by:

the instructions were well written and user friendly. The packaged bolts and nuts were numbered so the assembler couldn't get packages mixed up. The website said 3 t o5 ohurs to asssemble and I beleive it was 5 hours with hand tools. With battery or air tools it would take 3 hours. I haven't road tested it yet however it is on my agenda for this weekend

by:

I cannot think where I was ever more impressed with a company than Monroe. They were very attentive and never was there a more easier task than building my trailer. There was nothing missing, and it went together with perfection. Not knowing, but a year before I bought the trailer package, I purchased a kayak 2 wheeled portage cart. Wanting a premier carrier, i bought the best , most stable built cart on the market. It so happens that it was a monroe cart as well. Great group of engineers working on innovation everyday.

by:

I started building the trailer yesterday afternoon and just finished it an hour ago after spending three more hours on it today. It went together very well. Institutions were very clear. I am very happy with it. I am attaching a photo.

by:

Trailer directions straight forward. All materials identifiable, quality made and on hand. Take your time to do it right. Taking on kayak trip this weekend!

  • MicroSport Trailer with Kayak Carrier Recommendation for 2-Hobie PA 14 Kayaks
I really like the J-style kayak carriers like what the Malone Microsport Trailer part # MPG461G2 has. I attached a picture that shows this trailer carrying wider kayaks for you to check out as well. If you'd prefer they lay totally flat the SaddleUp style part # MPG461GU could work but I'd still rather recommend the J-style.

  • Adapting a Malone MicroSport Trailer With Bunk Boards For Hauling and Launching a Bote Rover SUP
To convert your Malone MicroSport Trailer # MPG461GU to carry your Bote Rover SUP/Micro skiff you will need a couple parts to use it with launching at the boat ramp. First you will need the Malone MicroSport to LowBed Trailer Conversion Support Tubes # MAL33TR so you will be able to lower the height of the Bunk Kit # MPG561. This will allow you to mount the bunks as low on the trailer as possible so you will be able to more easily launch the Rover. The bunk kit is rated for up to 500lbs...

  • Can I Put Two Hullavators on Pioneer Platform on 2020 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited?
My main concern is if your Jeep roof has the capacity for this whole set up. Two Hullavators + 150 lbs of kayaks + pioneer platform # JB0893 is a total of 320 lbs. You would also need 60" crossbars bars like # TH711520, or the 'not confirmed fit' 60" platform rack to get sufficient overhang on your Jeep. While I can still put together a list of parts for this system, I do not recommend using two Hullavators mainly due to weight and overhang obstacles. We have other load assist options...

  • Can Malone Trailer Carry a Pair of 32" Wide Fishing Kayaks
We do have an option for a Malone trailer that will be able to carry your two 32" wide Pescador fishing kayaks, but the trailer you asked about does limit the kayaks to a 29" width. The option I recommend instead is: - Malone MicroSport Trailer for 2 Kayaks - Saddle Style # MPG461GU This trailer has long, 78" crossbars and two saddle-style kayak carriers which can be positioned at along the bars to fit kayaks that are 32" wide. This trailer will have no problem holding your 10'6" long x 36" wide kayaks. Based on the dimensions you gave me, it looks like you have the powered version that weighs 121 lbs. The # MPG461B2 has a maximum boat weight capacity of 225 lbs per boat so that is also more than enough. It uses 7' bunks to hold your kayaks and also comes with a full size spare....

  • Kayak Trailer Recommendation for Transporting Squamish and Perception Kayaks
The Malone Microsport Trailer part # MPG461GU would be a great option for carrying your two kayaks as it can carry boats up to 20 feet in length, has an 800 lb weight capacity, and has saddles that easily slide in and out to accommodate the narrower width of your Squamish and Perception Carolina. The wheel size is also 12 inch like you wanted and the speed rating of the tire is higher at 70 mph. The bars are 78 inches long which is the shortest option we have.
