Lightweight Trailer is Perfect for Hauling Kayaks or Canoes

MPG462G2 In Use

This lightweight trailer with J-style cradles let you transport your favorite kayaks or canoes. Lightweight carriers secure your boat on its side, taking up less space and preventing boat-to-boat contact. With a 7-1/2' long tongue, this trailer offers exceptional clearance during tight turns. The extended tongue also makes it easier to back up the trailer and prevent binding than trailers with shorter tongues.

MAL98FR Folding j-style cradle

Folding, J-style kayak carriers with soft padding on the base and upright arms prevent scuffs, scratches, or damage to your boat during transport. The folding arms stabilize your boat and prevent movement while traveling on uneven or rough terrain.

Submersible LED Trailer Lights

MPG535 LED taillights

The DOT-approved taillights on this trailer are fully submersible, so you don't have to worry about damaging the lights when loading and unloading your boat in water. Each taillight has brake, running light, and turn signal functions, as well as side marker lights and reflectors. In addition, these LED lights last longer, burn brighter, and require less power than incandescent bulbs.

Plug-and-Play Trailer Wiring

CE48870 main harness to 4-way

The wiring for this trailer has a simple plug-and-play design, so it doesn't require any cutting or splicing to install. As you assemble the trailer, route the main wiring harness through the trailer tongue and down towards the body of the trailer. Then plug the 4-wire end of the taillight harness into the main harness.

CE48870 4-way plug

Run the wires of the taillight harness along the sides of the trailer frame and plug the individual wires into the matching wires on the side marker lights and the taillights. The wires are color-coded so that you can easily match them up - no circuit tester is required. Once all of the wires are plugged in, use the included clips to secure the harness to the frame.

CE48870 4-way plug

When you're ready to connect the trailer to your vehicle, simply plug the trailer end of the main harness into the 4-way flat connector on your vehicle.

Leaf Spring Suspension

MPG535 leaf spring suspension

This trailer includes a leaf spring suspension system to limit road shock while you tow. A sturdy steel axle runs beneath the trailer frame. The 2 slipper springs that support the axle flex to absorb the rough motion that can occur when driving over bumpy terrain. Also, the axle, spring hangers, and tie plate are galvanized to resist rust and corrosion.

Quick and Easy Trailer Hookup

MPG535 trigger style coupler

Hooking this trailer to your vehicle is quick and easy. The trailer's coupler connects to a 2" hitch ball, and the included safety chains act as an emergency measure if the coupler accidentally disconnects from your hitch ball. A rubber coated lift handle is mounted to the coupler to provide a solid grip for lifting or maneuvering the trailer. Finally, the skid plate on the underside of the trailer tongue keeps the coupler from touching the ground.

Can't say enough good things about this trailer! I used it for a multi-day kayak trip and we loaded 18ft. fully-loaded sea kayaks onto the trailer. It towed perfectly and I still had room to open the hatch on my Nissan Rogue. Towed it on the highway, on dirt roads and off-road. The fold-down J rack make it easy to load the center boats. Be sure to buy the optional jack stand and 1 person can roll it around even when loaded. It was straight-forward to assemble and it just works great!

by:

: Didn't work out at all considering with the j-hooks installed the trailer is way too deep to hug a wall, so I store the trailer outside with a tarp over it. If you have to store the trailer with the tongue retracted, this is a must have.

by:

This is a great trailer for the price.
I
found the packaging and instructions pretty straightforward and easy to follow.
Once together it seems quite solid and I really like the LED lights.
The crew at etrailer.com were in constant contact and very supportive throughout the entire process and all the paperwork for registration came within a week .

It has been a busy season. I love having the ability to change the racks easily as we have 3 kayaks, 1 canoe and a sup and are always changing as moods change and different people visit.

by:

the instructions were well written and user friendly. The packaged bolts and nuts were numbered so the assembler couldn't get packages mixed up. The website said 3 t o5 ohurs to asssemble and I beleive it was 5 hours with hand tools. With battery or air tools it would take 3 hours. I haven't road tested it yet however it is on my agenda for this weekend

by:

I started building the trailer yesterday afternoon and just finished it an hour ago after spending three more hours on it today. It went together very well. Institutions were very clear. I am very happy with it. I am attaching a photo.

I have used the trailer for over a year now, and I still love it. I’ve had absolutely ZERO problems with it. I store it outside, so it’s always exposed to the weather. But the only wear and tear I see is in the foam pads of the cradles which are not part of the trailer kit and which are probably caused by kayak installation and removals. I can load and unload the kayak in seconds. I am very happy I bought this trailer. Other people are quick to complement it, which allows me to boast that I put it together from a kit! Note: I just saw my initial review and noticed that the spell control software substituted “institutions” for “instructions “. Sorry about that.

by:

Great trailer to hold my large fishing kayaks. I am glad I went with this solution as I can permanently store my kayaks on the trailer under my lean to. The trailer took a while to build admittedly and I did have to run to the hardware store to grab a nut I was shorted and replace a metric carriage bolt with thread damage, but overall it is a solid product that drives well and I highly recommend.

A couple notes: The lighting kit is a 4 pin, so you may need to get an adapter if you have an older vehicle (mine had a 7 pin circle style plug only). Also, there is no space tire holder on the trailer like you see in the pictures so you will either have to throw it in your vehicle or acquire parts to attach it to the trailer.

I checked with Malone and this carrier still comes with the spare tire carrier. I will have our Customer Service team contact you so that we can send it out. As for an adapter I recommend part # 47345 to go from your vehicles 7 blade to the trailers 4 flat. It has a built in tester so you can quickly see that the wiring is working properly.

I would like to follow up my review as the customer service has been outstanding. They called me direct to remedy the missing part for the spare tire from the manufacturer and worked to get it sent to me ASAP. Based on the customer service I would consider now it a 5 star product.

Please find some attached images of the Malone trailer I purchased from you. Thanks.

Love this trailer! Works perfect for 1 to 4 kayaks. Easy to Tow! Used on multiple trips & is still working great! Purchased in 2021.

by:

I love it. Easy for anyone to assemble. Great performance. This is definitely they way to go when loading and hauling kayaks. Tracks true behind my Cherokee, so easy to strap down the kayaks with the j hooks. Light system works great. In my opinion there are really no negatives. I will use etrailer in the future. Expert help. Very professional company. Doesn’t break the bank.

Its a great trailer. I use it for kayaks, but the kayak supports are easy to move if you need to haul something else, like I did.

by:

I just received the parts for the trailer and will be putting it together shortly. I plan on transporting my recent purchase of 4 Kayaks. I like the fact that I can load the Kayaks a little more closer to the ground then having to lift them up high.

The packaging left a little to be desired, so some pieces arrived dented. My sister and I assembled this in a few hours. I had to take some links off of the safety chains to avoid dragging. To install the Malone trunk, you have to drill holes in the trailer...why doesn't the trailer come pre-drilled with these? It already has numerous pre-drilled holes in it, some of which are not used...so why not have these holes for the trunk brackets pre-drilled? I removed the triangular skid off of the tongue of the trailer, once I saw how low it hung, which could be a problem. I then installed the jack-stand with the wheel, which was the best solution, trust me, but the jack-stand handle is an issue (see my review for it). I also added some DOT speced reflective tape for safety, after taking off the Malone decals. This is a nice trailer, but it is definitely overpriced for what you get.

You can see in the pic that I have not yet flipped the ball hitch from the 2-3/4" drop side to the 3/4" rise, which I eventually did for the clearance.

As always, thanks William B, for your help. You're the greatest.

by:

Had the trailer for year now -- but has been in water storage along with my kayaks. I worried about spending so much but it is so useful, glad I did. Much easier to put kayaks on a trailer vs. hoisting upon on a roof. And it is a quality product -- well made.

by:

My wife and I are thrilled with this trailer. It has met and even exceeded my expectations. The components fit together perfectly. Assembly was easy. This trailer with the J racks makes loading and unloading our Ocean kayaks a breeze. I should have bought this thing years ago. etrailer.com was a pleasure to deal with.

by:

Excited to get paddling.
Waiting for
my trailer to ship from back order.
Accessories came without fuss and packed well.
Looking forward to the next shipment.

by:

We're so happy with our purchase! The trailer was easy to assemble....our 13 year old son did it all! It's a sturdy, reliable trailer and has been ideal for our kayaks. No issues up to this point.

by:

Great trailer easy to put together. Hardest part is getting the title and bill of sale . Seems to me that would come with trailer. I have been waiting two weeks on my title so I can use it and I’m still waiting.

by:

Excellent trailer. Highly recommended!

We have used and enjoyed the kayak trailer for about a year. It is a pleasure to arrive home from a kayak trip and I just unhook the trailer and back it into the garage. No more have to lift the kayaks on and off the top of the pickup. During winter I remove the support bars, and tongue to set the trailer up on end against the wall. The only issue has been the wing nuts on kayak holders. I could not tightened them so that the holders move during transport. To solve this issue I replaced the wing nuts with lock nuts. Also the bolt head slips during the tightening of the lock nuts. Other than that, we love the trailer.

by:

This is a fabulous product! Assembly was easy, and it served us well last season with our two 14-foot kayaks. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that six of the tiny lights in one of the red taillights went out after several uses. I haven't replaced the light yet as it still has working lights, but eventually I'll have to buy a new light fixture and splice in into the wireing harness.

by:

Problems after problems. Bowed bunks miss drilled holes and missing nuts. There’s a reason it’s priced low. Think twice or have HD close to replace the missing parts and re-drill holes. Should have stayed with Trailex Trailers. Lesson learned.

by:

Bought the LowBed MicroSport specifically for my Blue Sky Boat Works Angler 360 kayak. Trailer works great! It's lower and makes getting the kayak on and off easier. Had no issues with the trailer assembly. LED lights work great. After one year I'm very happy I bought this trailer.

  • What is the Shortest Kayak that Will Fit the Malone MicroSport Trailer # MPG462G2
The Malone MicroSport Trailer # MPG462G2 has a bar spread of approximately 47-1/2 inches on center. There is some adjustability to make the bar spread slightly less, maybe and inch or so, but not much. A kayak would definitely have to be over 4 feet long to sit on the cradles.
