Loctite Lubricants Sealants Adhesives - LT37420

  • Sealant
  • Nut and Bolt Sealant
  • 0.2 oz
  • Loctite

This high-strength red threadlocker locks and seals a variety of threaded assemblies, preventing unwanted loosening of nuts and bolts and thwarting corrosion of treated parts. Stands up to the worst shock, vibration and environmental conditions.

Features:

  • High-strength thread-locking liquid keeps nuts and bolts securely tightened
    • Super-strong formula keeps connections tight even during the worst conditions of stress and vibration
  • Treated threads resist corrosion
  • Assembled parts require heat to be separated with hand tools
  • Made in the USA

Specs:

  • Application: up to 3/4" (20 mm) diameter nuts and bolts
  • Quantity: 0.20 fl oz (6 mL)
  • Fixture cure (time required to become tacky): 5 minutes
  • Full cure (time required to reach full set): 24 hours
  • Temperature range (endurance limits of threadlocker): -65 F to 300 F

Applications:

  • Cylinder block bolts
  • Ring gear bolts
  • Transmission shaft bolts
  • Recommended for some trailer hitch installations

The shaded areas of these diagrams indicate where this threadlocker should be applied in various types of threaded assemblies.

Diagram of threadlocker placement
Diagram of threadlocker placement

Threadlocker 262 is applied as a liquid to the threads of screws, nuts and bolts before assembly. The red, high-strength formula keeps connections securely tightened, even during the most severe vibration, shock and stress. Threadlocker also seals out air, water and grime to prevent rust or other corrosion from forming, ensuring that the connected assemblies will remain sound for a long time. Uncorroded assemblies come apart easier and can be reused.

This threadlocker requires heat (500F) to free parts for disassembly with hand tools. Five minutes' application of a torch may be required. Disassemble while parts are still hot.

This threadlocker is anaerobic (hardens in the absence of air) and requires contact with an active metal to cure. Active metals (those that tarnish, corrode or rust) include brass, copper, bronze, iron, soft steel and nickel. If both parts to be joined are made of inactive materials, Loctite Klean 'N Prime primer must be applied to one of the surfaces for curing to occur. Inactive materials include plated parts, stainless steel, zinc, galvanized steel, magnetite steel, pure aluminum, titanium, magnesium, gold, silver, plastic, cadmium, Iconel, natural or chemical black oxide and anodized aluminum.

Klean 'N Prime can speed the cure rate of Threadlocker 262. This is especially helpful when you are applying the adhesive to any material, active or inactive, in colder temperatures (below 70 F).

The instructions and accompanying videos on your site made this a DIY installation that came out perfectly.

by:

Used it for the towing equipment on our Jeep and it has done it's job by keeping all the bolts in the same position. Would highly recommend

by:

Worked as expected.

by:

I ordered multiple Roadmaster products from etrailer.com to rebuild a used Roadmaster Sterling towbar and prepare my car for its first time towing behind the motorhome. The etrailer people are great to work with, the prices are good, delivery is quick, and free shipping for all of my orders. The technical support at both etrailer and Roadmaster is the best.

by:

Bought this product after watching the video how to install base plates on 2014 Honda CR-V. If you read the instructions talks about checking the bolts periodically for torque, now I don't know how many people are going to spend 4 hours pulling off the front bumper to this. So for peace of mind use this product so bolts won't come loose.

by:

For the installation the instructions were good, but watching some videos made it much easier to take apart a brand new car. All went well. Installed on a 2020 Chevy Equinox 2.0

by:

I have used the LocTite products for many years. They make several grades of thread locking fluids, each appropriate for specific uses. Their products do exactly what they say they will; and will secure threaded parts from vibration or lock them together permanently. Your toughest choice will be in determining which product is most appropriate for your use. My recommendation is to start with the lowest strength and work you way up as needed. Just remember that without special tools, permanent means permanent with this product. The lower grades are very strong in preventing vibratory loosening.

by:

This stuff works! Used it to install my trailer hitch bolts.

by:

I am so glad I came across etrailer.com, They have what I need in stock, and show you how to use and or install the product.
They have great prices and fast shipping, What else could you ask for!

by:

Reinstalling clutch, equipment manufacturer specifies using LOCTITE 262 on clutch reinstall. Unable to locate 262 except in large quantities in my area. Etrailer had the small quantity 262 and responded to my order immediately. Completed clutch reinstall and equipment is running fine. Thanks Etrailer

  • Is there a Way to Lock D-Ring Shackles to Front Of Jeep Wrangler Bumper
Most Jeep guys leave the D-rings inside the Jeep or torque down the pins so tight that it would take a very determined thief to get them. You can also try a thread locker like the part # LT37420 to make them even harder to remove.

  • Securing Axle U-Bolts With Loctite
Though it is not completely necessary to use something like Loctite's Threadlocker # LT37420, there wouldn't be any adverse affects either. Most U-Bolt kits do come with lock nuts making them more secure than standard nuts, but you can definitely apply # LT37420 to completely secure their purchase on the U-Bolts.

For Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24776 for your 2007 Honda Fit Sport there isn't a specific recommendation for anti-seize products for the installation hardware. Loctite # LT37616 would work fine. But if you are talking about thread locker then there is just one thing to consider: how difficult do you want it to be to remove the hardware? If you use blue Loctite # LT37643 then the hardware can still be removed using hand tools. But if you use red Loctite # LT37420 then power tools would have...

Yes, you will want to use the Loctite Threadlocker 242 - Medium Strength - 1/4" to 3/4" Nuts/Bolts item # LT37418 to install the Redline Replacement wheel studs item # 25-53. This is the blue one you will be able to remove your studs in the future if you need to replace them. The red Loctite Threadlocker 262 - High Strength - Up to 3/4" Nuts/Bolts - 0.20-Fl-Oz Tube item # LT37420 is the one you would either want to use or stay away from if you don't plan on removing the bolt.

  • Is Thread Locker Recommended Installation Hardware of etrailer Brand e98906 Trailer Hitch
If the # e98906 hitch installation hardware is torqued according to the instructions, it won't be necessary to use # LT37420 thread locker. You can certainly do so if you wish, however please note that the torque specs mentioned in the installation instructions are for dry torque. If thread locker is used you'd use different torque specs (wet torque) which can be looked up online dependent on the size and class of the fastener.

If your bolts are getting loose, I recommend using Loctite Threadlocker 262 - High Strength - Up to 3/4" Nuts/Bolts - 0.20-Fl-Oz Tube # LT37420 and torquing your bolts to the manufacturer specs. The Loctite will keep the bolts from coming loose and prevent further wear because of loose hardware. • Is Threadlocker Required To Install A Trailer Hitch Receiver?
To install the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver - Custom Fit - Class III - 2" # C13119 or any hitch, there is not a requirement in the instructions to use any threadlocker, but I personally think it is wise. The instructions say to periodically check to ensure fasteners are tight, but I don't believe most people actually do that and Loctite Threadlocker 262 - High Strength - Up to 3/4" Nuts/Bolts - 0.20-Fl-Oz Tube # LT37420 would be a good idea.
