Video Transcript for Feature Breakdown: Curt Lunette Ring

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Curt Lunette Ring. This is going to easily bolt right onto the front of your trailer, so that you can couple to your pintle hook. This is constructed of a strong forged steel, so it is going to give us a max weight capacity of 35,000 pounds. You can see that steel is covered with this black powder coat finish to help resist rust and corrosion. Our inner diameter of our ring here is gonna be right at 2 1/2 inches.

Our ring itself is a diameter of about 1 1/2 inch. So our outer diameter is gonna be 5 1/2 inches. Our mounting plate is gonna be 6 1/2 inches at that widest point there. And then our height, just over 6 1/4, call it 6 3/16 of an inch tall. You can see the back here does have this nice smooth finish, and that's going to allow it to sit flush to your mounting surface.

And the pre-drilled holes are gonna make it very easy to get this installed. Those are spaced 4 1/2 inches center-to-center by 4 1/2 inches. The hardware to get this installed is not included. We do have a kit available that features the grade-8 hex bolts that will be needed to get this installed. Again, that is sold separately.

You can find it here at etrailer.com using that part number that you see on the screen. So a really great option if you are looking to add a lunette ring to your trailer, whether the original is worn out or damaged, or you're just wanting to switch over to the more heavy duty lunette ring style. That's gonna complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

  • Replacement Parts For An Interstate Trailer
I can certainly point you in the right direction, but I am not able to reference a VIN and see specifications on your Interstate trailer. If only it were so easy, right? For a Lunette ring we have the channel mount # 337B16140 or a bolt on style # C48550. Both of these are rated for over 20,00 lbs and would be more than enough for your interstate trailer. We also have the ramp springs # RS16933RH for the right hand side, and # RS16933LH for the left side. These are 2K torque ramp springs...

  • Options for a Pintle Hook to Connect to a Trailer with 8 Inches of Rise
As you obviously have already learned there are a lot of variables into building a trailer. And I can't tell you what is or isn't completely safe in your exact circumstances. I highly recommend having your setup evaluated by a professional welder who has experience with trailers. Some of the components you're trying to combine may be just fine but only someone with experience and ability to test such products can really tell you that. I can't recommend using # RP45294 with # C48550....

  • Should You Lubricate a Lunette Ring
You should NOT grease or lubricate a pintle loop like the part # C48550. Grease attracts dirt which will act like sandpaper and grind away at even the hardest of metals.

  • Will a Pintle Hitch Fit Weld-On Nose Plate 337TNP716625750
Plate # 337TNP716625750 is going to be larger than what pintle hook # C48210 requires. The pintle hook is usually on the vehicle side so the mounts for it all have regular shanks that fit a hitch receiver. You want something like part # 63057. The nose plate would be used on the trailer side to attach a lunette ring such as # C48550. The bolt holes are 4-1/2 inches apart.

The Curt Lunette Ring part # C48550 which is designed for a plate like the Curt Pintle Hook Mounting Plate part # C48239 does not come with mounting hardware. If you need this, I recommend the Curt Bolt Kit for Flat Mount Lunette Ring part # C48332. This kit comes with 5/8" Grade 8 Bolts which have a recommended torque of 159 ft. lbs. If you need a torque wrench for this, I recommend the Torque Wrench part # PT79FR.

It sounds like you have a 4-bolt bolt-on trailer side lunette ring like the # C48550. This is a 2-1/2-inch inner diameter ring with a 4-1/2-inch center-to-center hole spacing. This is as you noted the only mounting hole spacing for such bolt-on items. The link provided will let you view all lunette ring couplers we offer, both bolt-on and weld-on types. I do have a solution that I think will work for you. If you can mount a Bulldog channel to the front of the trailer, # BDAC5000300, then you could use a coupler like # BDA200C0317, AND use lunette ring # 337B16137 when needed. • Troubleshooting Trailer Sway with a Trailer with a Pintle Style Coupler
Due to the heavy duty nature of the lunette style pintle setups there isn't a bushing available for the rings. The sway you are experiencing is most likely due to improper trailer loading. If you move as much of the weight of your cargo forward on the trailer as you can you should see a drastic improvement. You also want to make sure your trailer is being towed as level as possible. Also check to make sure the tire pressure in all of your trailer tires is inflated to the max psi rating...
