What's up everybody. It's A.J. with etrailer.com. Today we're going to be checking out this replacement Lunette ring from Curt. It's gonna have a two and a half inch diameter inside the lunette ring. It's gonna be a good replacement if you have one that's just kind of worn out or banged up and you want to replace it.
This is gonna be the part for you. Let's check it out. It's made out of cast iron, so you know it's gonna hold up to those heavy duty situations. Also can support a weight capacity up to 60,000 pounds. It's a bolt-on installation so you don't have to weld anything.
What sets this lunette ring apart from the other ones is that it's got this built-in lock. Zinc-plated so you don't have to worry about leaving out in the elements. It's not gonna cause any problems for it. No rust and corrosion. So how this works is when this is hooked up it's gonna sit off to the side and be out of the way.
But when you leave your trailer unattended you can move it over there, add a padlock to the bottom and lock it up. And now nobody can mess with it or hook up to your trailer when you're not around. Now, the padlock is sold separately, so you have to get one of those yourself. One note, when you go to install it is that the ring is offset, so that if this doesn't match up quite right with your truck, you can flip it around and install it the other way if that works better for that combination. Now, installing it is pretty easy, you just gotta do four bolts.
Check out how we did it. We went ahead and removed our old lunette ring here. Now make sure you do some measurements. We went ahead and measured the spacing for the new one that we want to put on our trailer here. They're gonna be four and a half inches apart, this way and this way, and this way and this way. So just go ahead and measure that and make sure your new one's gonna fit on your trailer. Now it doesn't include hardware, so you'll have to use the existing hardware you have or get new hardware. Our hardware isn't too bad, so we're just gonna use what we had. We're gonna set up there and match up the holes and put the bolt through on the two top ones first. And then on the backside, I can add the lock washer and the nut. I'm just gonna get it hand tightened that way it can help me hold this up and I can add the other bolts at the bottom. All right now, with the bolts tightened down, it's time to come back with a torque wrench and torque them down. Make sure you do the specified torque setting it says in the instructions. It's very important you do that. That way it doesn't fail when you hook up to your trailer since this is a heavy duty trailer. John's gonna hold the other side of the wrench here for me, and I can focus on torquing it down. There we go. Now you're gonna repeat that process for the other bolts. Overall, I think the lunette ring works great. Especially if you're gonna replace one that you already had, or you're adding one to a trailer. Why not get one with a lock built in just to keep people from messing with your stuff when you're not there Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out. And I hope this helps..

Doesn't fit in the channel that was purchased with the 40,000 lb lunette eye.
Quality product, but it's advertised as an 8 position. But it's only a 4 position. I assumed I could turn it upside down for the other 4 positions. But the directions clearly warn you no to use it in the inverted position. So I bought the 25,000 lb eye because it's only a 2 bolt eye. And it is wider than the channel by 1/8". Still usable but not without modifications which I'm sure voids any warranty.
Great quality. However, the mount will not fit in the standard 8 inch channel of the Demco actuator. I will have to either grind off the sides of lunette or try and bend the mount to get it to fit inside.
The quality was top notch. Can’t beat the price on it. Welded in great and hauled my excavator, which weighs 18k, just fine.
As expected. Super stout ring. Very fast shipping
Works well and very well made
