Video Transcript for Bestop TrekStep Side Mounted Truck Step Installation - 2008 Ford F-350

Today on our 2008 Ford F-350, we're going to take a look at and also show you how to install the Bestop TrekStep Side Mounted Truck Step. This is for the passenger side. The part number is B7540415. Now, here you'll see our step once we have it installed. This is going to be a great solution for getting up or actually reaching things that are in the middle of your truck bed. It gives us a nice solid platform to get up on here, reach those things that are more in the middle of our bed, or the things that are a little harder to get to.

When we're done, just a little tap up on the bottom. Now the thing I like about this step is that it has quite a bit of resistance. It's not so much that we can't easily get it to move down, but even if we happen to be off-road or something like that, if we hit a big bump or something, we're not going to have to worry about it just coming down on its own. There's a nice heavy-duty spring in there that helps to prevent that. Now you can adjust this a little further back, a little further forward, however you want it. If you have any kind of clearance issues at all, there are a couple of spacers, so you can bring this down.

They're about 1/8 of an inch, so we've got about 1/4 inch additionally we can put in there, but as you can see, this one's installed. You're not going to have to use any spacers in this application and there's plenty of room there. Now, to start, we need to get the nut plate installed. This is going to go in the first bed support rail. This is the cab of the truck, this is the bed, so we're going to place this in just like this.

We're going to be sure that our bolts come out of the larger hole, not the oblong hole, then the large hole there towards the back. Now we've got an M10 nut to install on the outboard side. Now this nut, you can see, it's going to go up into that frame rail. That's just there as a spacer for this little bit of an angle that we've got right here. Now we're going to bring our bracket up and that's going to slide right over those bolts, and on each of those studs that stick down, we're going to put on a flat washer and also a nylon lock nut. Now we can get these snugged down.

Now we've got our side support that we're going to be putting in. We just want to mock these together and there's several holes here so we can get our positioning correctly. Essentially this oblong hole is going to fit over the rear attachment point where our step goes in place like this, and then since this is an 8-foot bed model, we're going to use our block that's got the set screw in it, and now that needs to be mount right up on our bed rail like that. We need to position this so that the hole is lined up in our side rail, or our side support and our bracket here. We'll slide this block all the way in, and then we need to tighten down our set screw. We're going to take then, one of our M8 flash washers and one of the nylon lock nuts, and then we're going to secure that right up to the locking bracket we just put in place. We can secure that down. We can also tighten down the bolts that go through the support arm itself. Now we'll bring our M10 bolts down through. We want to get these into our linkage. On each of these bolts we'll have a lock washer as well. Now we're ready to get our step installed. Now you'll see on the bottom of the step we're going to have these sliders. What we're going to do is line those up with the 4 holes that are in the bottom of our linkage here. This gives you also the opportunity to adjust your step so you can move it further back or further forward. We'll keep it a little bit further back. We'll check for clearance between the bottom of the bed and the step, and as long as we've got it, our install's going to be complete. That'll complete our installation of the Bestop TrekStep Side Mounted Truck Step. Part number is B7540415.

2016 Ford F-250 Super Duty

I do really like these steps. They are great for a handicapped person and for anyone who is vertically challenged. With todays tall sided pickup beds in the heavy duty models these are a godsend for plucking things out of the bed or toolbox.

I found the greatest benefit for me is pulling the pin on a fifth wheel and placing the lock bar on the handle and putting your security pin or lock in whatever it may be.

These steps are extremely heavy duty and work really slick as far as the kick out and in. The only thing I found is that the instructions are oversimplified and not nearly as simple and quick to install as stated. The 30 minutes per side will definitely turn into a minimum of two hours. It is certainly doable and I am testimony to that at 65 years old and handicapped. You just have to take your time and a lot of it. The instructions, though, very plainly printed and even diagrams fail to make this a simple operation. I would do it again for the convenience they provide.

I would also like to mention Etrailer's great service and products and helpful and friendly staff. There was a delay in their shipment from the factory which they apprised me of and offered up some substitute products, but there really is no substitute for these steps.

Review from a similar TrekStep Toolbox in Nerf Bars - Running Boards

When I got my brand new 2013 Ford F150 with 8'-0 bed I knew I needed a side step . But looking at sidesteps on line, most brands didn't show how it would connect to the underside of my truck! They would just have a picture of the truck with the sidestep. But Bestop would also show how it would attach to my truck and that was the deciding factor for me!

Installed on a 2013 Chevy Silverado 2500 crew cab. Step fits perfectly and operates smoothly. Instructions can be a bit confusing since it is designed to fit several year models. A installation video like the one for the rear step would be helpful. Still not sure how to use the adjustable screw on the crossbar mount.

Comments
Take the bolt and tighten against the frame. Once it is tight, tighten the nut against the cross bar as a jamb nut to keep the bolt from rattling loose. This is covered in Step 10 of the instructions.

Useful and easy-to-use and install. But pretty expensive, considering you can get a full set of running boards forest money.

Comments
They are just ok. They look fine but dont hang as low as the OEM so dont help shorter passengers as much.

These steps are everything they said they were. Installed them myself with basic tools. Had to make a couple minor adjustments to the mounts but not a problem.

The product seems to be well made and relatively easy to install. It how ever did not work for my needs on a 2017 Ram with an 8' box. The instructions called for mounting on the bed rail closest to the front of the bed. This made the reach to access the locking mechanism of the 5th wheel hitch quite a stretch. I looked at mounting it to the 2nd rail but the DEF lines are hard clamped at that point and interfered with the installation. I believe it would work well with a 6.5 foot bed.

Although I was skeptical at first, this item did fit my 2012 GMC 2500HD Denali. Make sure you read through ALL the directions first, as there are different directions for different models...and because of that there will be parts left over. They provide different mounting parts for various types of bed supports. The fitting can be rather tight, such as the long 2-piece support bar that has to line up on it's bolt holes, so be prepared to pull on the main mounting bracket to get it to fit.

Lifesaver for me. Could not get into truck bed otherwise. Works well even in winter and with mud.
Great item.

Review from a similar TrekStep Toolbox in Nerf Bars - Running Boards

I was smart enough to know the install was going to be hard. I paid Toyota to do the install while I was at a medical appointment. You really should have a rate system on how hard it is to do your own install. The product works at advertised and I am a heavy guy. The two guys doing the install said something to the effect "...I never thought my arm would fit like that to reach the bolt holes." This one had the gas tank in the way, so it was the hardest to reach anything. Also it was said the truck pictures did not match.

the side step and mud guards are a big hit with the person for whom they were a gift. Thats the best I could hope for. Follow up by the staff, Jason and Travis was exceptional. Happy to order from etrailer any time!

I have a 2018 Chevy Silverado 2500HD. Had to modify the product to get it to fit. Had to add a 1/4" shim to the top of the Top mounting bracket. And also had to bend the top of the side bracket to fit the locking block. But once installed step works great.

NIce piece of equipment. Much needed to get into the back of my truck bed. It tucks away nicely and was fairly easy install. The price is right and heavier construction would make it weigh more and raise the price for materials. Rick

The order of 2 heavy items arrived on time as expected and apparently undamaged. Upon my request, etrailer packed and wrapped my heavy items together in a very sturdy box, stapled shut, in addition to the manufacturer packaging. This outer box was undamaged and the contents appear undamaged, though I have yet to open the items.
