Video Transcript for DeeZee Oval Nerf Bars Installation - 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500

Today on our 2014 Chevrolet Silverado double-cab, we're going to show you the DZ Nerf bars. Part number dz372527. This is what the inaudible 00:00:12 looks like when it's installed on the passenger side of the truck. We'll go ahead and take a closer look at the shape of the tube, itself. It's not going to be round. It's going to be an oval shape.

Going across the top will be about four inches. I guess you'd say height, will be about 2-3/4 inches. You'll notice that this part covers the entire length of the cab, and of course, it has steps in the appropriate spots for your doors. Take a look at the curve on the inside and the outside. You see that it's used a tendril bent process to make the shape.

It's inaudible 00:00:50 on both sides. The tube steps themselves are created with a stainless steel finish. Connecting parts underneath the truck have a power coat finish. We'll go underneath the truck and take a closer look at the brackets that go underneath. We're looking at the center one, here. You notice, all the brackets underneath use existing body mount bolt.

There's no drilling required on this truck. The other two brackets on the end of the tube install in the same fashion. They just have different shapes. Lastly, this comes with all the hardware provided to install it. We'll move on to our driver's side and see how it does install. Before we do our install, it's a good idea to go ahead and lay out our parts in their appropriate locations.

We're going to start in the back bracket, and work our way up front. First off, brackets have a little stamp on them that say "driver's rear." Of course, there will be another stamp on the passenger rear, as well. We got four of these large bolts right here with a lock washer and a flat washer. These will eventually connect the tube to this plate. We'll move on to our second bracket here. Again, it's stamped, as well. DC for Driver's Center. It also uses the body bolt, and it has a smaller bolt that goes out from the tube steps to the bracket. It also has a flat washer and a lock washer to match. Also in the kit, you'll find this mounting bracket, and two more of the same bolts with lock washers and flat washers. This bracket is used for mile years 2013, on down. Since ours is a '14, we don't need this bracket; this is extra. We'll just leave it out of our way. Lastly, this is our bracket, driver's front. It's the same ll large bolt, flat washer, and lock washer. To install our parts, we need to loosen up the body bolts. Since we're at the front, we'll start here. We'll go ahead and loosen this body bolt up with a 21-millimeter socket. You definitely want to use a breaker bar to get these lose. Also, you want to know the thread compound that GM uses on here. Doesn't work very nice with air tools or electric tools, so slower is better. Otherwise, you could damage the threads, using the air ratchet. We've actually had pretty good luck, so far, pull those break bolts loose. Just slowly remove the bolt. Before we put our body bolt back in, DZ recommends using anti-seize compound on the bolt. We'll be using part number LT37616. This is a lock-tight, anti-seize stick. It doesn't take much of this. Apply some to the threads. It will work its way around, as we put it back in. Now we can go ahead and put our bolt and bracket into place. We'll snug up our bolt, just enough to take up the slack. We can still move it around. One last little detail, it's easier to show now, is that when you put tube strips up for good, make sure this bracket is not hitting any of the metal around it. That way, it will keep it from squeaking and rattling, going down the road. Let's move on to our center bracket, and basically repeat the same process. Now we'll move on back to our last bolt by the end of the cab. All right. Our brackets are loosely installed. Let's get our tube step out. To get our tube steps ready, it's pretty simple. I actually like to remove the plastic around the contact points. Just leave it like that, and it protects the rest of the tube step, while I put it in place. We'll do that for both ends of the tube, and put a mount in the center, as well. We'll take a look on the inside here, and we'll take our bolt. It's a good idea to quick test it, and make sure everything works together. Once you're satisfied, we'll put it onto our bracket here in the front. You notice the front bracket has two slots. The top slot is for 2014 on up, and the lower slot is for older-year trucks. Once again, we're going to keep this loose. We'll brace up the other side, and put the bolts in at the back. We'll go back to our center bracket and install our hardware. For tube steps in the brackets, we can take off the rest of our plastic covering. At this point, it's a good idea to set up the tube steps the way you want them. You can adjust them inside to the outside, or adjust them diagonal, too. That's why we leave the brackets loose, so we can move it around the way you want it. Once you're satisfied, then we can tighten down all our bolts. On these bolts here, we can use 19-millimeter or 3/4-inch socket. We'll get them good and hand-tight. The instructions don't state a torque specification on these bolts. The center bracket, that bolt will use a 13-millimeter, or half-inch socket. As you tighten these guys down, it may move on you a little bit, so one last check to make sure it's sitting the way you want it. Let's go ahead and tighten down our brackets to the body mount. DZ does recommend checking with the manufacturer of the truck to get the proper torque setting for these bolts. With our last bolt tightened down, that will finish it for the install, and for part number DZ372527, the DZ Nerf Bars on our 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 double-cab. .

Absolutely love them. My wife loves them even more because it is so much easier for her to get in the truck now especially when her hip pain flairs up. They are very functional and look great too.
